The product arrived on time and in great shape no shipping damage. The speakers are quite heavy and the box is big. The speakers physical size are bigger than I expected but I got them to fit on my desk no problem. The build quality is quite substantial. The instructions are not very comprehensive but I was able to figure out how to get them installed correctly. If you order the recommended 1/4" mini stereo jack (headphone out put on your computer) to TRS, you must separate the cable to be able to spread the speakers out on your desk. This may seem obvious but I felt it will be helpful information to someone else when they look at the cable and wonder how one end will go into each speakers connectors and to be able to move them away from each other. I use these speakers with my laptop on my desk, using the cable I mentioned. Please beware that the computer power supply can give these speakers a very loud and annoying hum caused by a ground loop. My heart sank over this as I was looking forward to having great sounding speakers on my desk. But here is some info to help out others, there are Hum buster solutions available to quell a ground loop that causes the hum, but before you spend your money on one try "lifting" the ground which means take the 3 prong power cord that feeds the computer and hook it up to a 2 prong adapter which eliminates the ground prong. I was so amazed at how well this worked without spending more than a couple of bucks. This solution quieted the speakers so much that there is no hum at all they are dead quiet. I also moved the power cord of the computer away from the other devices to a different wall outlet by itself, no noise and the speakers sound fantastic.

I do classical on-location recording and often need small, portable monitors for the producer or musicians to use to review takes. The KRK RP5G2's are small enough to carry and have low enough distortion and flat enough response for classical use. The mid-range and high end is smooth enough that violins and violas sound natural and the low end allows for most of the range of the cellos, if not double basses. Critical mid-range distortion and phase linearity at the crossover frequency is good enough that woodwinds sound natural, which is often not the case with inexpensive monitors.

Classical music typically has a much wider dynamic range than most other musical genres, so really requires linear speakers, and the Chinese-made KRKs don't disappoint. The internal amps have an inaudible noise floor (unlike many internally amplified monitors that have some residual low-level hiss, hum or buzz) and have low distortion at both high and low levels of reproduction.

The wide range, calibrated sensitivity control is a bonus. On location, I drive the KRK's with either the +4dbV line output from an Apogee Ensemble OR the (approximate) -10 dbV headphone output from a MacBook Pro. Using the rear-panel controls, I can achieve a correct dynamic range, with enough gain to reach full power peaks with either signal source. It would be nice to have a detent at the "0dB" gain position, but it's not that hard to match the monitors, so is not a big deal. The monitors (when set up for 117V USA operation) use a 1 Amp, slow-blow GMA (5X20mm) fuse. It would be nice if KRK included a spare fuse, since these may be hard to find in some locations.

These RP5G2's are similar sized (the KRK's are just slightly larger and slightly heavier) and sound much like the Genelec 8030A's. The Genelics will play a few dB louder, and may possibly be a little more rugged, but they cost 4X's as much, and actually have less bass. You can buy (8) of the Rokits for the price of a pair of 8030A's!

Overall, these are excellent monitors, especially considering their size, weight and price.

I am a huge amazon shopper. The way I shop, I search for what I need, and then I weigh both the costs and the reviews of the people. I'm not too big on taking chances with new & expensive technology after a bad experience I had with a camcorder I purchased long ago. I would rather make my decision based upon what people have to say about it. I admit, I'm not the most frugal guy (I must say I do like nice things), and as such I'm also big into style and presentation as well. I'm willing to spend a little extra if I can get something that's not only really good, but also looks great too. Obviously, the ideal would be to get the best (looking) stuff for the lowest price possible, but I'm a realist. All that being said, with my purchase of these speakers, the process was no different. I needed some good quality studio monitors that were at a reasonable price based upon my income. As a hip-hop musician & technician for my personal home studio, bass is key for me. A solid, strong pair of speakers that can produce clear, rich sound, especially on the low end, would suit me perfectly. I've looked on many different websites for all sorts of studio monitors, combing through reviews and user-generated comments detailing what to look for and/or describing their experiences with whatever pair they've purchased. Eventually, I come across this page for the KRK Rokit 5s. It's got really good reviews and in large number. They also look pretty sleek with the black and yellow colors, which compliment the yellowish studio foam I have setup in my studio. Before making my purchase, I saw that there also existed the Rokit 8s, which also have great reviews and appear to be overall better the the Rokit 5s, but at a bit of a higher cost ($500 compared to the Rokit 5s @ $300). I finally decided that the 5s would be a better buy since, for one, it would already be a huge step up from that last pair of speakers I had (which were terrible, low quality computer speakers that BARELY picked up any bass at all), and for two, $200 extra for a pair of similar-looking speakers for a slightly better sound just isn't worth it (at least to me) with the budget I'm working with.

After finally receiving them, breaking open the boxes with the vigor of a kid on Christmas, the first thing I notice is that these things are pretty massive for their size, which to me is a great thing. In the pictures they look kind of hollow, but no, these things pack power. It still amazes me how clear yet how robust the sound is. Hearing the "wang" of an infectious bass line on these speakers is such a euphoric experience! Another great thing about them are the many different output ports in the back. It's really convenient to have the balanced quarter inches, unbalanced RCAs, and the XLR connections to choose from, which added to the fun of determining the best way to hook them up to my Behringer Xenyx 2442FX mixer. One of my partners and I had a field day yesterday playing around with it, so now I feel as if I'm finally able to utilize all of my equipment to its fullest potential! I said all that to say this. After having them only a few days, they've already become a permanent fixture in my studio for days to come. Maybe one day when I'm able to afford the more high-end speakers, I'll replace them, but for now these are definitely solid! You will not regret purchasing these at all!

I bought this device for a non-standard use, and it works very well. I record sound on location for a local tv show. My boom operator (when I use one) needs to be able to hear what's coming thru the boom mic. The MyMONITOR fills the need very well. The boom mic plugs into the input of the unit and another XLR cable runs to my mixer/recorder. The operator plugs in a set of headphones (there are two jacks), and we're off to the races. The unit passes phantom power to the mic with no issue.

There are two cons to this product one minor and one pretty major in my mind:

1. There is no mounting option for the MyMONITOR. I could imagine if I were using this while playing in a band, I might want to mount it to a mic stand or other. There's no provision for that. For my boom setup, that is a big disadvantage but again, I can't fault the product since it isn't specifically designed for that. FYI, to resolve that issue, I removed one of the case screws (the case is VERY solid steel), and attached a velcro strap.

2. Here's the biggie: either by poor design or poor assembly, the 9v battery would not fit into the unit without me actually BENDING two capacitors out of the way. So far, no problem, but I dread replacing the battery while in the field. There's no real battery holder. It just sits in among the circuitry.

So, while this is a very solid little product, and I can see that it could be very helpful for performing musicians (I are one), it's hard to predict how long the unit will last until I (or you) snap off one of those little caps.

I got this so my daughter could listen to herself sing. The music goes in one input, the microphone in another, and the output goes to headphones. Once you get it working it is fantastic. It gives great feedback so you can hear exactly what you are singing. After 30 minutes with it, my daughter improved her song immensely.

That said the documentation (even on their website) is awful! I finally had to take the device to Guitar Center to make sure I bought the correct connectors for the headphones and the iphone output. With all the cables, it is not really meant for moving around, so she keeps it in a purse while singing.

Documentation would take it to 5 stars. But don't be scared off, this is a pretty cool little device if you want good feedback on your singing.

Bought the ART Personal Monitor guessing that it might help in complicated sound environs. It helps a lot.

I play upright bass with acoustic groups. Sound reinforcement usually consists of individual mics on instruments and vocals. Very few small-time sound guys can get an upright bass and acoustic guitar even close to useable levels in monitors. Using a bass monitor works OK, but it blanks out important band sounds.

The personal monitor allows blending at my position of my instrument and the monitor out with no effect on the mains or other band members. This is great! The only downside is that you gotta wear phones. Upside to that is the phones, while they look a little dorky, limit ambient noise...like slow sounds off the back wall of a large room...drumming guitars in the floor monitors...people shuffling around...always something.

I enjoy being able to mix my own monitor levels. Just makes the music better and much more entertaining to play. It's like siting out front!

The little monitor is a lot of bang for the bucks! Very easy to use. Recommended!

I was doing a lot of digging online as to which audio interface to purchase for my home rig, and after much deliberation decided to go with the PreSonus Fire Studio Project. When I visited amazon to place the order for the audio interface alone, I saw this little combo-package recommended to me by amazon, and it's perfect. The audio interface is excellent, zero-latency monitoring, 8 balanced input and outputs(XLR & 1/4 combo), along with two 1/4 TRS inputs for line level instruments. The Fire Studio Project also comes with Cubase 4LE, and instructional DVD on Cubase, a sample CD(tons of loops and samples) and some lite versions of some pretty nifty pro VST plugins! In addition to this, you get a lite version of PreSonus' DAW, Studio One, which is an up-and-coming DAW and has received much praise for its functionality and capabilities. Before installing the drivers for the PreSonus Fire Studio Project, I recommend that you go to the Presonus website and download the PreSonus Universal Control FIRST and install it, then install the drivers as directed. I installed the drivers 1st, THEN the Universal Control and had some problems with the audio interface and FL Studio for quite some time before I figured out the order in which I installed the drivers and Universal Control is wrong; install the Universal Control first! It works great now.

The Samson CH700 cans aren't the best headphones ever invented, but it does the job reasonably well and gives you another tool to reference your music. Also, it gives you the ability to monitor your mix while recording, in conjunction with the HP4 by PreSonus. The CH700 usually connects to a 1/8 port, but, included in the packaging are two clip-on 1/4 TRS adapters for use with the HP4 and other professional gear :)

Now, moving on the the HP4; it's a well designed piece of equipment. There are 4 headphone jacks(1/4 connection) a mono switch and monitor mute switch. There is no on/off switch, instead you must unplug the AC adapter from the back to power-off the unit. The warning is in the manual for the HP4(it can get very, very loud, with little distortion too), so be careful when monitoring through headphones; start at 1 and adjust the volume using small increments. It's also built like a tank and I've never read any problems online about it concerning technical difficulties. However, I must be the first person to experience technical problems, because after a few months of use I found that the HP4 presents some problems routing my right channel through my right reference monitor. Sometimes no sound comes out or is very low in my right monitor, or gets distorted a bit, and this can be quite irritating while mixing and, or monitoring. But, I still give these things 5 out of 5, because other than that problem, they perform exceptionally well and I have never read of any problems from this unit, so I'm guessing this is very rare and they typically perform well for most users.

Don't forget to register your software(PreSonus Studio One) and hardware units(HP4 and Fire Studio Project) on the PreSonus website!

I bought this to replace my old setup of a Xenyx 2442fx with 8 outs into a delta 1010LT. I needed something more portable and this was an excellent solution. The preamps seem to be of the same quality, but I favor the Firestudio Project because it has a more clear mid range. I couldn't believe that I could get the Firestudio and the bonus headphones and headphone amp for the same price others were selling just the FS Project.

I'm surprised with the quality of the headphone amp. I was expecting it to degrade the quality of the sound, but if there is any coloration, I haven't noticed.

I've got better headphones so I have hardly used them, but they are definitely good enough that they will be included when I'm working with a larger number of musicians.

The firestudio is just as advertised. Zero-latency, high quality and has a ton of routing solutions. I combined it with my FireStudio Mobile for a total of 10 mic preamps and 6 line inputs. Easy to set up and use. If you need to mic drums on a budget, this will get it done.

Got this for amateur DJing (combined with Denon CDJs and Stanton mixer), and I am very pleased. Have owned them for about a year now, and they still behave like the day I got them. Sounds is nice and crisp, and the bass is thunderous. It is not a studio-quality headphone, but then again, it is not in that price range either. They do have a copper plug like the more high-end stuff, and for DJing, they are perfect. Also check out some of the professional reviews on this model floating around on the web. They offer a lot of bang (pun intended) for your buck!

edit: Have now had these for over a year, using them lightly. The sound quality is still nice. On the top of the headband, where the silver meets the black, the silver is starting to crack. I would predict this to be the weak point of these headphones, i.e., that headband will snap at some point.

Need a headphone for DJing, and i choose this headphone, great sound, comfortable, and come with the bag and headphone jack adaptor, love my new headphone./.

The product is okay, but the tax that i was charged before i could claim it in Germany was not okay by me. I had to pay what i did not want to pay. I think that American Amazon should have a deep understanding with the consumer countries with regards to tax at delivery. This will ensure an overall satisfaction of consumers. I had so much misunderstanding with the custom/clearance office in Germany where i live and use this product. One other thing is, the American Amazon should check, in terms of electronic devices, the voltage and watts of the electricity being used in the consumer country their product is going to. They should make sure to supply also a corresponding current/voltage regulator/trasformer or converter so that the consumer will not run the risk of not using their product or the trouble of having to buy an extra current converter. I had to use batteries because the current in Germany was far lower than what the product should use. After so much search, i did found a converter, but that should not be and it has rendered the cable with which my product came with useless. These things should be looked into. Given that these headphones come in at the upper end of the lower price range they sound very good. The higher frequencies are definitely there. The midrange could use a bit more definition. Overall the imaging could be better. Like the reviewer said before me the bass isn't deep as you would expect, but I will in this case let them wear in a little bit before saying that they could use more bass. Definitely better than the Numark and a much better value than the higher price Technics DJ headphones. I must also comment that there is a low white noise distortion that is constantly present. This could be do to an impedance mismatch. I am playing these on a high quality Yamaha receiver and listening to a CD on a Yamaha CD player so go figure.

EDIT: The white noise has gone away. I guess the high end on these babies is so good that it will pick up hiss in even alledgely DDD recordings of classical music. Right now these headphones should feel lucky because they are the cheapest ones in my rotation along with the Sennheiser HD-280's, Sony V700's, and Sony 7506's all of which cost much more.

EDIT: For home use the Behringer 3000 sound better with flatter response. The Audio Technica ATH-M 40's which I got for a steal and if you can get them as low of a price as I did they would be a much better value than this headphone. For DJ's I don't know. This is still the best headphone for it's price even though I've picked up some coloration in the midrange that has an unpleasant sound sometimes.

Be very wary. These are plasticy. They are 64ohms, which isn't useful for most dj mixers with headphone monitoring built in (unless you want to go deaf). I got these for under $10, so I'm not too disappointed but I wouldn't pay more than that.

I recommend this only if: 1) you are not recording a guitar with high output pickups through the instrument-in, because it will clip even with the gain turned all the way down on the AudioBox, 2) you are not using an SM57 or some other dynamic mic that requires more than 35dB of gain, otherwise it will be too quiet, and 3) your headphones have an impedance above 100 ohms, otherwise the USB-powered Audiobox can't keep up with the current draw and will have no bass in the headphone monitoring out.

If you meet those conditions, then this is a great, affordable, stable recording interface. On my Mac it's plug-n-play, both on my older G4 powerbook with Tiger and newer 2010 Mac Mini with Snow Leopard. On the Mac, no separate software or drivers are needed. The construction of the AudioBox is very good. All metal box, and metal knobs. The blue metal looks great.

The mic preamps sound pretty darn good, crystal clear if you're using a condenser mic. For recording vocals on condensers, this interface is great. If you're on an old system, however, recording direct guitar and running it through a virtual amp simulation will give you latency problems. Not as much on Core 2 Duo systems and above. Be advised that the zero-latency monitoring is for a clean signal going in, not the processed sound from your software plugin, thus you can't do zero-latency distorted guitar recording that way unless you listen to yourself play clean while recording.

Now officially this does not have line-level recording ability. So you can't take the headphone output from a walkman, guitar amp, or mp3 player into this. But actually that does work as long as you carefully keep the line signal volume low and plug it into the instrument jack on the AudioBox. I've done this and it records just fine. But if the line volume gets turned up too high, you risk burning out the chip inside the AudioBox, since it wasn't engineered with safety mechanisms for that, thus Presonus says it doesn't do line-in.

It gets 4 stars for what it does well, and minus 1 star because of the caveats / exceptions listed at the beginning. As with all gear buying, my honest recommendation is to save up and get something 1.5X the cost of what you thought you could afford. If I could do it all over again, I would get an Echo Audiofire 4, Focusrite Saffire Pro 14, or Apogee Duet and call it a day. But, my Audiobox has served me well for over two years now, made some great clear recordings, right up until I got new headphones with too low impedance and the bass dropped out.

I tried the PreSonus AudioBox recently and was extremely disappointed with it. I didn't try it with a microphone since I'm usually recording guitars direct, but the preamps are designed to ALWAYS have 20 db of gain being applied even with the input turned all the way down. I looked this up on their official forums, and it is intentional. Because of this, I was never able to get a signal that wouldn't clip when palm muting (even with passive pickups). They don't have any kind of software mixer either, so you have to buy an attenuator pad or find some other workaround.

There's also a knob that you use to blend the mix between the hardware direct monitoring signal and the regular output. Even with the knob turned all the way to the regular output side, you still get some "leak" from the direct signal coming through the monitors. This can cause feedback problems, give you inaccurate monitoring (in my situation, because I'm hearing dry/clean guitar signal at the same time as amp sim VSTs), and is just a general pain in the ass.

And just to add icing on the cake...I also discovered that the output starts digitally clipping with the output knob at only 9 O'CLOCK! Ridiculous.

I think PreSonus had a great product on their hands, and intentionally screwed up the design, as to stray people towards their higher end stuff when they become inevitably disappointed with the AudioBox. Their official forum moderators used the excuse "well, you can't expect those kind of features from an entry-level interface" when people complain about its shortcomings. Really?! I didn't realize the ability to record a USABLE SIGNAL was apparently something that only the big dogs get. What a joke.

I returned it and bought an E-MU 0404 USB for only 20 bucks more, and I am much happier.

This is the best external sound card I have ever used to record. I have used quite a few over the years and presonus has all the competition beat hands down. This unit is extremely quite, it reproduces exactly what it captures without adding any color as some cheaper units tend to taint your sound. The are no latency issues and I had no problem installing it on my Windows XP OS. I use this unit with Sonar 7 PE and have not experienced a single issue since I've used it. I highly recomend this equipment to any home studio operator. I will be purchasing preson equipment from now on.

I updated my computer to Windows 7 64 bit. I did not have one issue. The Audiobox works like a champ.

I'm just going to expand on a few things already said here. I've been working with the Audiobox for several days now and have tested just about everything I have in my studio through it. I have a Dell Core-2 Quad desktop and a HP DV5-1010 laptop. I wanted a mobile setup so I got the Audiobox after returning a Focusrite Pro24--probably nothing wrong with it, but I couldn't get it to work with my laptop--but then, I can't get any firewire device to work properly with it. So what I'll have to say will be confined to how the Audiobox works with my laptop.

I can confirm the reports that the preamps don't have enough gain to handle dynamic mics-I tested a Shure SM 57, a Beta 58 and and old Audiotechnica dynamic. You have to turn the gain all the way up on the Audiobox and get right up on the mic to get a useable signal. That leads to a problem with Channel 1 -when the input volume is cranked up all the way, it begins to emit a high-pitched whine which will go into the recording. You can get rid of most of it by unplugging the laptop, so it's a grounding problem with the laptop--other devices have caused that noise also. But it's a nuisance, since the pathetic battery in my HP won't last for more than an hour. Oddly, Channel 2 on the Audiobox doesn't have this noise problem.

My workaround for this is that I have an Art Dual MP preamp that will add more than enough gain so I don't have to crank the Audiobox's inputs up that high. That also diminishes mobility, but it is a good backup. If I want to use just the Box without the preamp, I use Channel 1 for my guitar input--I play both acoustic and electric through mostly a Boss GT-8 processor, and the output from that sounds beautiful recorded through the Audiobox. I plug my vocal mic into the quieter Channel 2 and can put down a good-enough quick and easy recording that way.

I've also recorded a stereo acoustic guitar track with a pair of Oktava MC-012 condenser mics. They provided plenty of gain for a good signal without having to crank the input on the Audiobox up to the noisy range, producing a very good recording. I can also plug my Martin acoustic with an active piezeo pickup directly into the Audiobox and get a good signal. I've also recorded the output of my Roland electronic drums directly into the Audiobox with good results.

The Studio One Artist software that comes with the box is really well-designed and probably worth what you pay for the Audiobox alone. I'm working with the full demo version of Studio One, and it is fantastic--I will probably upgrade to the full version when the demo period runs out. It has many great features, but I'll just mention its mastering presets--they save a lot of time and you can usually find one that gets you pretty close to the punch and presence you want. There are some good reverbs as well. I have several other DAWS on different computers, and in the past I've recorded with one computer and mixed and mastered with another. I think that with the Audiobox and Studio One, I'll be able to do respectable recordings from start to finish on my laptop. I can confirm that the Audiobox also works well with Adobe Audition, both the newest version and the old Version 1.5 that I have.

One final issue--latency. I found that working with the "Normal" setting in Studio One (the middle of 5 settings) my laptop was emitting occasional clicks and pops that got into the recordings. I found that to eliminate these pops, I had to move the setting to "Relaxed Normal" which causes greater latency. That is not a problem for me because I record and overdub using just the raw signals coming in from my instruments and voice, and so I don't need to monitor the input with the software's effects. This allows me to record with zero latency. It might be a problem for others who need to hear the software's effects on the input as they record. I might add here, that the "Mix" control on the Audiobox is very convenient for getting just the right blend of recording output and input as you're overdubbing-just crank it one way for more of the recording in your headphones, and the other way for more of the input. Studio One also makes punch-ins and editing of tracks, as well as mixdown ridiculously easy.

One other annoying thing--if I unplug the Audiobox from the computer while I have a session going, it causes the drivers to go haywire, and they have to be reinstalled. After the second time I did that, I learned my lesson.

Conclusion: this is a good cheap interface to get signal into a laptop computer. The software alone is probably worth the price of the box, and you will probably also be tempted to buy the upgrade later on. I give it about a 4-1/2 because I think the input gain could somehow be calibrated better. If you have any kind of preamp or processor around like the Art or the Boss, you won't have any problem getting enough gain. The box allows me to go mobile with my recording and the 48k, 24-bit sound is a noticeable improvement over 44.1k, 16-bit, at least to my ears.

I just bought the Audiobox USB and after wrestling with installation for five hours, I'm done with it and plan on returning it first thing tomorrow.

After repeatedly installing, reinstalling, uninstalling, etc., I've determined that this equipment just isn't compatible with a 64-bit Windows 7 system. At least for me, it manages to only install the driver for playback and not the one for recording. Upon attempting the latter, the system hits me with an error message and doesn't seem to know what to do with itself.

The manufacturer, PreSonus, will claim that the updated and compatible 64-bit drivers are available on its website, but this is a load of hogwash as those don't work either. Not even the audio editing software that came in the box, StudioOne, managed to install correctly. That and the DRM associated with it made me want to vomit (mandatory account creation and online registration on the PreSonus website before using the software you just bought?? Gimme a break...)

So in all, this wasn't compatible with my system, and judging from the troubleshooting and forums available on the PreSonus website, I'm not the only person who has had this problem. If you have run Windows 7 on 64 bit or have a decently up-to-date computer, I'd be wary of this Audiobox USB interface. I just hope this review can save someone down the road some headaches. Peace.
