I use this for my portable DJ set up.I run a Windows based Laptop with Virtual DJ Pro. It separates each virtual decks into a right and left channel that I plug into a mixer via RCA cables. It provides full, clean sound with absolutely no lag. I have used this card for a couple of parties, it's small and runs off the USB port on my computer, so all I have to do plug it in and I am ready to go.

I wish it had XLR outputs though, so I could connect it directly to my JBL IONs without an external mixer. It's still a great value for the price.

I was researching about a good audio interface for my laptop since I'll DJ in small/medium parties. and I'm glad I picked the Numark DJ I/O. is a good quality device and easy to setup with VDJ pro software. All I have to do was to install the CD software for the drivers (Win XP Pro),plug it via usb to my laptop, configure VDJ software, plug it to my speakers and voila! great sound and good performance. Excellent product!

I bought this a week before I switched to Windows 7. I was using it on Windows Vista Business 64bit and it worked great along with Traktor Pro, however, it doesn't seem to like Windows 7 at all. This could just be a Traktor problem, but all my drivers are up to date and such. When it did work, the sound quality was amazing. I reformatted last night to Windows 7 64bit and have yet to try it out, but I hope it works better than it did on 32bit. If you can it to work, then it is a great product that I would highly recommend. I have many friends that use this, and the week I did have it working it was amazing.

I purchased this unit and it was several weeks before I had a chance to use it.

1. The software would not install.

2. I downloaded the newest version of software from Newmark and it installed fine.

3. There is no output from the RCA output jacks.

In order to get tech support from Newmark you fill out an online form and wait 24-72 hours for a response. I have done this 3 times and have not received any response from them.

In the meantime, 30 days have passed and I have lost the opportunity to return the unit.

I called the Newmark online store (you can buy from them, but I did not) and explained the situation. They told me they would put me through to their tech support. I waited on-hold for 25 minutes and every 30 seconds listened to a recorded message saying that I could go to their website for help www dot ionaudio dot com. Newmark does not even support their own product!

After 25 minutes I talked to a person who said that they don't actually provide support but would take my name and number and have someone call me. I asked what would happen if I was not home when they called "You will need to call this number back again."

This is nuts.

I called Newmark and talked to a customer service rep, told him about the experience and asked if they could replace the unit. He said they would not. When I asked why not he said, "Because you didn't buy it from us. You gave your money to someone else." I was boiling by this point. I replied, "You don't stand behind your product if it is bought from one of your retailers?" He said, "Of course we do. I can connect you with technical support."

"Will it be the same technical support I was connected to last time, waited on hold for 25 minutes, then told someone would call me back, but if I miss the callback I have to start all over again?"

"Yes."

Make your own decision. I will never ever again consider buying a Newmark product.

I have both the Fostex HP P1 and the combination ALO Continental/Cyperlab Algorhythm Solo. So I believe that I can compare both. The Fostex is an exceptionally well designed piece. It is good looking and relatively small. It is bigger than an Ipod, but will comfortably fit in a pocket with an Ipod. It is an all in one piece. As such, the battery is called upon to do a lot. The charge does not last very long. I think I get about 5-7 hours from a single charge. It comes with a USB cable and appears to be designed to be charged from the bus on your computer through USB. No problem. It takes longer to charge, but you can simply do it overnight.

With in ear monitors, the Fostex is a splendid performer. An Ipod with recordings in "loss-less" setting or better is simply deadly. I just about never listen to an Ipod (outside of a gym setting) without either the ALO Continental portable headphone amplifier/Cypher Labs Algorhythm Solo DAC/digital transport combination or the Fostex HP-P1. The performance enhancement is revolutionary.

However, the Fostex does not have the juice to make an inefficient headphone sing. For instance, the Sennheiser 650 or Audese LCD2 sounds much better on the ALO/Cypher Labs Algorhythm Solo combo. The Fostex sounds fantastic on probably all earphones and many efficient headphones. The ALO is two pieces and therefore is both bigger and heavier. It is not as convenient for truly portable use. I have the JH Audio-13 and the Fostex drives them extraordinarily well as does the ALO/Cypher Labs Algorhythm Solo.

I have to say that I often prefer (slightly) the sound signature of the ALO/Cypherlab combination. It competes very favorably with an excellent desktop Dac and headphone amplifier. While the ALO combination can fit in a big pocket, it is too big to be truly comfortable or to be easily portable.

In conclusion, the ALO combination will fit all headphones wherein the Fostex will probably drive some headphones well. The Fostex will not make an inefficient headphone truly sing. The Fostex costs approximately half of the cost of the ALO Continental/Cypherlabs Algorhythm Solo. They are both superb performers.

Post Script

I have found that the Fostex HP-P1 has a wonderful synergy with the Shure 530 and Westone 4. I also really love the Fostex with the Sennheiser IE8, Audeo 232, and the Sony MDR 1000. The sound signature is full with great sound across the board. There is plenty of power for a full bass response, albeit tight and not exaggerated. The rest of the sound spectrum sounds great. The synergy of the Fostex and any of these really read earphone monitors is astounding--really astounding.

The charge lasts for 3-5 hours. I know that a this is not as long as all of us we would like to have, but this one gadget is: 1) an Ipod transport which in essence converts the Ipod into a harddrive or an independent stereo component (which of course disengages both the DAC and amplifier on the Ipod itself); 2) a DAC far superior to the DAC in the Ipod itself; and (3)headphone amplifier which is the sole means of controlling the volume once you have bypassed the DAC and headphone jack on the Ipod. Most of the great portable headphone amplifiers last much longer on a single charge. This is especially true of the Ray Samuels Audio, Leckerton, TTVJ, and Headamp Pico portable amps. These other portable amps are fabulous and keep a charge a lot longer, but then are not DACs or Ipod transports.

Considering that the Fostex HP-P1 is a great piece of equipment and at approximately $650.00, it is really a good buy!!

Let us begin:

WHY:

It is believed that iPods are made for the great unwashed A Lossy digital signal is put through a second rate DAC, then a third rate amplifier and the signal is finally made available to your earbuds.

DIGITAL AND ANALOG STUFF:

An iPod plays a digital signal. The digital signal goes into a DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter). The analog signal from the DAC is then Amplified. (EXAMPLE: MP3>DAC>Amp> Headphones).

The Apple Dock Connector can bypass either the Internal Amp (Analog Line Out (ALO)) or bypass the DAC and the Amp (Digital Line Out (DLO)).

An ALO is used by many third party amp makers to provide a cleaner signal to the headphones. (EXAMPLE: MP3>DAC>Apple Dock Analog Line Out>Third Party Amp>Headphones).

A DLO sends the digital signal out of the iPod to be both converted to analog and amplified. (EXAMPLE: MP3>Apple Dock Digital Out>Third Party DAC>Third Party Amp>Headphones).

FOSTEX HP-P1:

Just about every Apple dock connector cable is analog out.

One of the few exceptions is the Fostex HP-P1. It uses a proprietary Apple Dock Connector that is digital line out. An iPod makes the digital signal available to the HP-P1. The digital to analog and the amplification is done within the Fostex.

MAKING SENSE:

To justify buying the HP-P1, your source MUST be Lossless and the headphones should have a MSRP North of $300.00. Anything less is a total waste of money. Sorry.

REVIEW:

Pros: In many respects, this is as good as it gets with portable music.

Cons:

Weight and Size: The Fostex HP-P1 is half again as big and heavy as an Apple Classic.

Cost: Even with a street price of $650.00, it is still a lot of money.

No Music Shaping: Remember, the signal coming out of the iPod is digital. You cannot run it through EQ.

Battery: HP-P1 will provide a day of "normal" listening (5 to 8 hours), but will run dry long before a players.

Amp: The amp will not drive high ohm headphones with authority.

Using this with a new Ipod Classic and Ultrasone Edition 8 headphones; the sound is awesome. First time I can really hear longer decay of notes, better separation in a chorus, and more voices within the chorus. More separation and depth of bass. The construction is superb; the volume knob extending out is helpful with adjusting the volume from within a case; It trickle charges your IOS device, so you basically have to charge one item only, if you leave the ipod plugged in. Quality construction and performance!

These are basic headphone extension cords 1/4 Male to 1/8" female. Many other extension cables are 1/8 to 1/8, which, if you are using with a headphone amp in a studio situation, requires an additional 1/4 male to 1/8 female adapter to work properly. This makes for another point of failure, and given the difficulty of picking up decent 1/4m to 1/8f adapters, having these built as needed is a big plus. So far, Ive experienced no issues with these cables, and have been pleased.

Like most everyone else, I bought this to fit in tight quarters in my vehicle for my mp3 player. After using it for only about a few weeks, it started giving me problems. I have to have it twisted, tucked and rolled at the proper angle for both the left and right channel to work. If not, the left channel disappears. Huge pain when having to constantly adjust it when skipping songs...all while driving. I wouldn't recommend this to anybody.

I needed right angle plugs to make connecting my Zune to my car stereo alot easier and to clean up the look.

The staight plugs stuck out too far and left too much loose cable flopping around.

The 3 foot cable I ordered was just the right length and the angle plugs makes it easier to route and hide the extra cable. The cable and connectors are of excellent build and quality. And the price was cheaper than the straight cable I bought at radio shack.

We've all had hundreds of these at some point in our lives. They work great until they don't. They wear out. It's hard to give a real review until after it breaks. I expect cables like this to last at least a year. The last one I bought (not the same seller) only lasted about 7 months, so don't buy THAT one. Who knows how long this one will last? Even so, the longevity of one cable from the same manufacturer probably doesn't indicate how the next cable will fair. It was cheap.

I bought this because I wanted a short cable with right-angle jacks so it would look nice (relatively) in my Yukon. The right-angle jacks keep the cord from having to bend 90º which should increase the life of the cable considerably. I don't need a long cable for my iPhone which is just going to sit 12" away in a cup holder. Gold plated? Whoop-de-do.

Well, my cable is now worthless. It already has a short in it. You have to place it just right for the sound to work. I promise I'm not being hard on it. One end stays plugged in to the radio in my Yukon and the wire lays in the tray in front of my cupholders until I plug it in to my iPhone. I don't yank on it ever. I hit play on the iPhone and then it sits in the nearby cupholder. When I'm done, I unplug it by pulling on the jack and not the wire. Wouldn't you think something would last longer than THREE months? I have an old cable that came with a Sony Discman that I bought in 1993 that still works. Why can't cables work as well as that one still does?

I ordered 2 of these cables initially, one for my car and one for my wife's. One of them worked fine, and is still working. The other was unfortunately DOA -it only transmitted the left channel. As soon as I contacted the seller (Valley Enterprises) asking for a replacement, they sent me a new one. We used it gently and it worked well for seven months, until it started shorting out again in January. This was frustrating, so I made a complaint without asking for a refund, since I was well out of the 30-day warranty period. Even so, I was happy to be offered an improved replacement cable!

The guy at Valley Enterprises replied to my complaint with the following: "Portable audio cables are a consumable product. Meaning they don't have a long life span. We have been experimenting with some new cable materials to see if we can get a longer lifespan while still keeping them flexible and slim. We will be introducing a new version next month that includes Kevlar inside the cable to keep the cables from shorting out as that seems to be what causes a short life span."

By February, he had shipped me this new-and-improved cable. It's still a 3' right-angle cable with gold connectors, but it seems a little more stout. I can't really verify if there is Kevlar inside the cable or not, but it seems to be working well so far. I also can't verify if they have totally replaced this old design with the Kevlar design... but the main point of this review is that the company stands behind their products, and I really respect that.

When I wanted to learn how to play the bass guitar, I wanted to pick up an instrument that was affordable, but would not be substandard in quality to the point that it would frustrate me.

I have really enjoyed learning with this instrument -and am still enjoying it! I'm not a connoisseur of bass guitars, but I've been happy with the sound on this guitar, and it has been easy to play. I've been playing for about half a year, including weekly "performance" with a praise team group at my church, and I am confident it will be some time before I have "outgrown" this beginner instrument.

I docked a star from this package because, in my opinion, the rest of the accessories that come along with the bass aren't worth much. The amp will work for practice, but doesn't bring enough volume to play in a performance setting without a loud buzzing. I rarely use it.

I still use the gig bag from this package, but it has not weathered well -another reviewer described it fairly accurately as "thin as paper". Better than not having a bag at all, but it doesn't protect the instrument. My bag (which I am pretty gentle with) has developed several small tears that are slowly getting bigger, including a decent hole by the strap near the bottom... which means that if I wait too long before picking up a new one, either the strap will snap, or the weight of the bass will make it tear through the hole and fall to the ground!

The strap does what it should (no more, no less), and I don't use the rest because I already owned good quality picks, audio cables, and tuners, that are better than what is provided here... the included tuner seems awkward to use.

Summary: It's a good beginner instrument (I still love mine!) -but I don't really consider the rest of this "value pack" to be worth the expense, IF you are looking for accessories to keep around and use for a while. The whole package is probably worth it if you, like me when I started, are not ENTIRELY sure you are going to be sticking it out for the "long haul" with playing the bass.

The description says this package comes with METALLIC RED dean bass yet what i received was a red stained natural wood dean bass. It also states it comes with tuner, of which was NOT included in the box when i received it. I was first imformed estimated delivery would be between March 12th & March 15th and got tracking info with it then the tracking info disappeared. I received a call on the 15th stating it would be delivered on the 16th & needed a signature so it was a day late getting here. The bass is great, dont get me wrong. Just diappointed that it wasnt as described & no tuner in the box.

I liked this bass right out of the box. I am a beginner at playing bass but I am a musician. The bass in and of itself is solid and well built. However, with the exception of the bass and amp (for practice only), the rest of the starter pack is marginal at best. I replaced the gig bag as it was too flimsy and replaced it with a Dean hardcase made for the bass (as small as the investment may be, you should really protect it. I replaced the tuner with a Yamaha tuner. The pack did not come with picks (I am still figuring which to use or use both). I am not proficient enough to know the difference in the strings and its corresponding sound so I will leave that option for last. These changes that I have made suit me and my purposes. For the true beginner, I would recommend this bass pack if what you are looking for is something that you can start to learn on right out of the box. When I was younger, there was no way that I could ever afford a bass like this. Good job Dean for putting together a decent bass.

I ordered this for my husband for Christmas. He loves it. The gig back is nothing to brag about but will work until we can get a better one. The amp is a cheap one, but for a beginner it works fine. the guitar is awesome, it has a very good sound.

Yamaha SK88 Survival Kit for 88-Key YPG Series Keyboards

I thought, "Three year extended warranty? Keyboard Cover?" This sounds great, especially at the discounted price.

I imagined a cover that would cover the "keyboard", the keyboard being the entire YPG-635. I've submitted some user photography to show you what it actually covers, and I see that the user images are already accepted and in the description. The word "Keyboard" has multiple meanings when you talk about an item like this. The whole thing is a keyboard. And the electric piano has a keyboard, the area which the keys are in. In other words, the keyboard has a keyboard. I imagined a keyboard cover that covered the first keyboard.

But then I got the box and opened it, and it seems that what they are covering is the second keyboard, the keyboard part of the keyboard. (Whew!) It is a nice heavy felt cover and it might lay flat after a few weeks. Right now it is a wrinkled felt cover. I have no idea how it would stand up to ironing. Since the edges are pinked (again, see photo) rather than whipstitched or beaded I'm scared to wash or iron or handle it much beyond laying it out and picking it up.

But the most important particular that the product description is wrong in is that the extended warranty only adds one year to the original one year factory warranty for a total of two years. The package insert is very clear about how long my new warranty is and it disagrees with what the item description in Amazon says.

I have yet to look at the DVD that came with it or to use the PC software. If and when I do, I'll publish an addendum to this review. I felt that accurately describing the cover and the length of the warranty would help the most people and that an accurate description was needed quickly. The downgrade to two stars was because of the quality of the cover and the incorrect or ambiguious description. It would have gotten three stars if the description was correct and clear. And, this would further be adjusted by the usefulness of the DVD and software, which I have not yet evaluated.

Were the felt cover of better quality (that is, if it had a beaded edge and if it sat flat) I would be starting this review at 4-5 stars.

OK, I've had time to look at the disks. The DVD that shows you how to use the various features of the keyboard is excellent. The disk of software is pretty much junk. There are 2 lite versions, neither of which run on my Vista system, and some demo versions, none of which I cared about. This is the sort of stuff you can download from web sites for free. I know what a midi device is, and so the short featurette on how to hook up your keyboard didn't mean anything to me and as far as I can tell, all of the YPG series keyboards use USB hookups, so the extra stuff on usb-Midi adapters just distracted from what you'd need in a SK88 Survival Kit.

I will point out that the Yamaha web site also claimed that the warranty was extended for two years, so if this information was copied from that web site, it disagrees with the contents of the box.

In any case, my 2 star review stands. The cover is still not sitting flat it looks worse than it did in the photos.

I mostly agree with what the other 2 star reviewer said. I like the key cover better than he did. It does an adequate job of protecting the keys, and it lays flat enough for me. The extended warranty is for an additional year, for 2 years total like he mentioned. The instructional DVD is nice, but it really should be included with the Yamaha keyboard to begin with. It just covers what's in the manual, and I don't think it is something someone should have to pay for. The software on the other DVD is all trial software. Nice, but again, not worth paying for. The included headphones can be found online for $5. The coupons are for stuff I'll never buy.

This item is vastly overpriced for what you get.

This product contains good quality products and their value far exceeds the price you pay. The keyboard cover perfectly covers the keyboard area not the whole instrument. This is much more convenient and looks better than a full cover. Full covers are available if needed for very dusty environments. The cover comes folded and can be unfolded and made to lay flat with very little effort. They sewed a "Yamaha" logo onto the cover that gives it a classy look.

The warranty is three years from date of purchase of the keyboard NOT two years. Perhaps the other rater was confused because there are different survival kit numbers and model numbers. Each kit carries different items and includes either a two year or three year warranty. There is a chart printed on the back of the box that mentions the different warranties and references the different model numbers. The sticker on the end of the box clearly states the model number and what you are getting.

Also included are decent quality headphones, one instructional DVD and a CD.

Bottom line: GREAT DEAL. Quality and contents met expectations.

I have cases on both my iPod Classic and iPhone 4S, and with my previous Belkin cable I would have to take the cases off to fit the cable in the headphone jack. Not with this one! It fits perfectly without having to remove the cases, and it's just the right length. And, most importantly, the sound quality is excellent! Definitely would recommend buying.

This cable locks fully into the headphone jack on my Samsung Galaxy S phone. I have tried another brand and it did not connect fully, resulting in a lot of static and sound coming from only one car speaker. As it connects fully the sound is great, there is no static, and it stays connected to the phone even if it gets bounced around.

Previously, I purchased cheaper cables for my MP3 player to use in the car. The story always ended the same static, music would only play from one speaker bottom line the sound was horrible I got what I paid for. After reading the reviews, I purchased the InCarCables and what a huge difference. No more static and the music sounds great. Even driving on the roads after the winter weather which has left them a bit rough, the cables are not affected by the bumps and uneven pavement on the roads. The first thing I can say that I appreciate about the VO 1-A is its appearance. It's beautifully crafted. Second, I've got to sing the praises of it's ability to pick up and reproduce sound. If you're looking for a microphone that only picks up what is directly in front of you and not what's behind the microphone, this is not for you. The VO 1-A picks up anything in all directions and is very sensitive. The first night I used it, I set it up in the dining room and put on my headphones to take a listen. The windows in the house were open and I could hear the neighbor boy down the street, practicing his trumpet. With the VO-1A, you can place yourself as close to the mic or as far away as you like and it really pics up well. In my case, I seem to like setting up around 5 8 inches away, depending on the need. I do voice over work and this mic really produces a very crisp sound, while picking an amazing bass reproduction as well. The entire sound wave spectrum sounds spectacular.

I've recently completed my first professional Voice Over demo. The studio did a fantastic job (and I didn't do too bad myself). On the down side, I had nothing at home to remotely approximate the quality of that studio production. I read numerous reviews on mics in my price range and was leaning toward the Rode NTS-1A. I'm sure I would have been happy with that choice as well. The VO:1-A had the endorsement of a trusted name in VO going for it, with a solid guarantee and the Micport Pro USB preamp to boot. I've also added a pair of Rokit 6 monitors to my home studio. Consequently the sound I'm producing at home is amazingly close to my demo, minus the background music and special effects. My next move is to purchase good sound editing software and build a small sound booth. This purchase was not only perfect for me but perfectly affordable. The Micport Pro does an excellent job for it's size and the only caution I would offer is that it does have a tendency to get quite warm. So I try not to use it for too long at any one session. This may very well be normal but it bugs me. Later on I plan on stepping up to the M-Audio Fast Track Ultra for expanded capabilities. I hope that doesn't come across as too negative because the truth is I couldn't be happier.

I purchased this microphone after trying several others and it works like a charm. It is crystal clear and picks up the entire spectrum of my voice. The base pickup is especially outstanding! My voice may not be as deep as the late Don LaFontaine, but with this microphone it would be hard to tell my voice and his apart. The USB interface works right out of the box, and has allowed me to record quality work right onto my PC. This microphone combo is worth every penny.

I thought this was a great quality mic. This is my first mic and it handles like a dream. It competes very well with other industry standard mics. You can go to their website and see the difference. I have personally thought after using it, that it did a great job for the price that I paid for it. It records great "studio quality" sounds. Couldn't have made a better choice for my first mic set, considering the little USB adapter piece is like $150 on it's own you're getting a great deal.

I agreee 100% with the previous review. Shure is the highest quality. I have the top end 535 and brutalize them with over 150K miles in the air every year. My last one wore out or I broke it, one of the two, doesn't really matter. How ingenious is it of Shure to design a product that allows you to change out a $20 cord instead of having to send the entire headphones in? You won't be dissapointed.

After having my Shure ear buds for about 2.5 years, the connection started to go bad where I had to hold the cable in the socket and wiggle it around to find the sound. Being just out of warranty and very expensive, I was quite frustrated. In a last attempt to fix the problem myself, I bought a new extension cable, and voila, problem fixed for a very reasonable fix. Very pleased with the new cable. My ear buds are good as new now.

I took care of this headphone cable. Loosely coiled and put in the case with the earbuds after use. While the one that came with the earbuds lasted 2 years, this cable is having issues after only 7 months. Now, the sound is intermittently cutting out in the right ear. I didn't expect them to last forever, but for the price I expected them to last for longer than it did.

Bought this to replace the cable that came with my Shure SE110s, which I love and have been using for 4 years with no issue. I also have the Shure SRH440s, which is awesome, so nothing against Shure, but this thing is absolute crap.

It has a strong affinity for twisting like nothing I've ever seen. After 3 months, the sound begins to go in and out depending on the position of the end connection. The exact same happened to the original.

I'm questioning my intelligence for actually buying a $15 headphone extension when I could've bought one from Monoprice or something for $4. This decision has haunted me for months and I now have trouble sleeping at night.

But really, I really like Shure and their other products just don't buy this.

Exactly like the cable that comes originally with the headphones. Feels thick, solid, and with the gold tips, it sounds great. Also protects your headphones from sudden jerks on the cable.

If you are an adult beginner, or have an elementary school aged and above child interested in playing piano, this nifty little keyboard is a great first step. Here's why:

. It is portable. Our son (who is 10) carries it around with him throughout the house, plugs it in, puts on his headphones and is ready to practice, play or improvise.

. Did I say headphones and plug in? Yes! Indeed, I did. Piano is a glorious instrument, but perhaps less so at the hunt and peck phase. And, not having to buy a constant supply of batteries is a boon to the environment and one less chore for a parent to do.

. There's enough distraction to make it "sooooooo awesome, Mom", but not so much that your child will get lost in some maze of sounds. Enough said.

If you are a more experienced pianist or have a child is committed to the piano, this is not the keyboard for you. But, for the beginner of any age, it is a pretty awesome (son speaking), practical (mom speaking) first keyboard.
