Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program My first thought was, "I wonder if Avid makes an upgrade to this set that includes Pro Tools M-Powered bundled with M-Audio Fast Track Pro"? This is indeed the basic version. But how basic is it? I would say this is almost perfect for anyone wanting to start mixing their own tracks with their own instruments and prerecorded loops. Basic for a purpose.

The M-audio Fast Track functions as an external soundcard and 'router' for all of your music gear. When you plug in the M-Audio, all the audio from your computer immediately goes through the Fast Track--it processes the sound from then on out, which is a good thing (I would wager that the M-Audio soundboard is better than your laptop's). The Fast Track is the entry level audio interface that M-Audio offers which is bundled with Avid Pro Tools SE (second only to Pro Tools M-Powered) that allows the price to be very attractive for first time music editors (for your own music, or someone else's). This is why the M-Audio is limited with only 1x XLR (Audio--e.g. a MIC input), 1x 1/4" input (Electric Guitar for example), 1x Headphone output, and 1x USB slot. The latter limits you to no MIDI input, and limited 'multi' performance sessions (multiple 'live' instruments at a time). With the Pro Tools SE software, you are only able to record 2 simultaneous live tracks--1 from the Amp in and 1 from the XLR input (any acoustic instrument with the help of a mic).

My setup was an Electric Guitar plugged into the 1/4" input on the M-Audio with a 3.5mm headphone to A/V male cable hooked up to my stereo system. The latter actually took the place of an external Amp, and with the Pro Tools SE software, became a lot more versatile with over 30 sound effects and tweaking capability. It was very easy to record, and picked up very well. You will have to adjust some things to get the right volume, however the learning curve is very straightforward. If you are using an electric guitar, you can adjust the sound to make it sound however you want. From maximum drive for heavy metal to a clean, wang for classic rock. Anything.

**Know that in order to use a MIDI controller (a Keyboard with a USB output), you will have to hook it up to your computer, not the audio interface. The only way to get most of the instrument sounds on Avid Pro Tools is with a MIDI controller**

What does it mean if you just have an instrument like me (Electric Guitar) and that's it? You will have to rely on Avid's prerecorded instrument loops for drums, piano, bass guitar etc or import them from another source. If, however, you do use a MIDI controller then you will be able to create tracks from over 100 different virtual instruments exactly how you want. So if you are wanting these tracks to be solely created by you, then it will be necessary for you to have a MIDI controller. The only way to play those virtual instruments is to have a MIDI controller.

I could not find this anywhere on the box, but the required space for this program is around 7.5gb. Installation took about 5 minutes.

*Few Problems (Nothing major, trust me):

I have a Windows 7 64-bit laptop that ran the program flawlessly with no CPU lag even when using max effects on multiple tracks.

1. When I first ran the program it hung 25% of the way through its 'loading'. After the first time, I never encountered this problem again, and it starts up within 10 seconds.

2. When I unplugged the M-Audio Fast Track from the USB port while Pro Tools was running, it froze my computer completely so that I had to do a hard reset.

3. When using the Fuzz-Wah effect for guitar without the 'Guitar Amp' effect selected, it would intermittently pick up so that sometimes the effect worked, sometimes not. It worked when enabling the Guitar Amp again however.

4. When the Guitar Gain switch is turned up on the M-Audio, as well as the Input switch, so that the right volume is on Avid Pro Tools for recording my guitar, there is audible crackling, hiss noise through the sound output, though it did not appear to come through on the recording.

What impresses me most about the Avid Recording Studio is its simple, easy-to-use interface that allows great recording and a very professional way to begin making your own music. If you are familiar with any editing software for video (Avid, Final Cut, iMovie etc.) then you will already know how to do most of the editing on the sound clips. There are limitations to this kit so that the price can be where it is, however for someone needing just the basics; this will be a largely trouble-free way to start the path to your own music production.

I've been composing for a while and I just got really tired of recording my music using my computer's sound card. Quality just ruins it. So I got this product expecting it to solve all my problems. It did, and I find myself working on my songs every day.

The included software is really the whole deal, it has a lot of effects and loops. Just as described above. Some cons: takes about 30 min to install. There should be a more detailed chapter on the user guide to help you configure the M-Audio interface properly. It's all about latency; if you don't configure this right you'll find noise in every recording and it just becomes tedious. took me about 15 min reading online to get this thing right. Once you're all set, you'll feel like a pro.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The installation is quick and simple. For me it was easy, having used several other audio editing systems including some basic training on an advanced Pro-Tools system. Avid and Pro-Tools are the industries go to production choices, using the Avid Recording Studio is a great way for a newbie to learn the basic audio skills of recording. The equipment is pretty much plastic, light weight and feels sort of sturdy. I would recommend it for someone eager to learn the basics of audio recording and editing. The interface is a simpler version of a full professional studio, and has the capacity for adding advanced software. Anyone looking for a future in the recording industry or just wanting to record their own music or sounds for fun should check this out. One recommendation: follow the instructions exactly, do not mix it with other systems and have a great time.

This quick review is for the interface hardware only, I haven't used the Pro Tools software that comes bundled with it.

I run Fl Studio 10 and Reason 4 on my PCs (Vista 32bit Home) and was having trouble with latency issues (pops, clicks, crackles) with the stock issue audio interfaces. On investigating the issue, I learned that these applications work best with fast running PCs (at least 1.9Ghz)and sound cards that can handle ASIO sound drivers. The best ones cost well over $100 bucks and require you to pull your PC apart to install the card, which I didn't want to mess with...

This little USB powered box comes with a proprietary ASIO driver, but it will also work with ASIO4ALL, a popular ASIO driver available free on the web. Installation & setup was fairly easy.

I had to set the latency control way up there, but this unit took care of most of the annoying sound glitches (I still need faster CPUs). Probably can get better performance with some additional tweaks.

This interface also works nicely with my new Blue ENCORE 100 microphone didn't get any noticeable hiss until I turned the the Mic Gain all the way up.

I haven't tried the guitar input.

*****UPDATE 9/21/12****** After upgrading to Reason 6.5, I finally dug my electric guitar out of the mothballs, and the guitar input on this interface works perfectly...

The top mounted controls on this unit are handy, but note that the headphone output is a 1/4" jack(as it should be) if you use headphones with a mini plug, you'll need an adapter.

As of this time, Amazon's price for this device is by far the best (goes for about $120 at local music stores), so if you are experiencing a similar issue with DAW latency OR need a simple way to hook a traditional microphone up to your computer, this could be an easy and inexpensive fix.

******UPDATE 10/24/12*****

I bought a new computer, and this device works fine under Windows 7 (64 bit, but some of the software I use is still 32 bit) Instead of messing with the Avid studio CD that came with it, I downloaded the driver directly from the M-Audio website. No problems...

This looked like an ideal product I own several M-Audio products already and they are all amazing! The interface itself works tolerably with other applications, but I bought the package because it came with a version of Pro Tools. A limited version, but it's still Pro Tools. However, it simply doesn't work. I installed it on my MacBook running Lion and it never runs. It doesn't ever get past the quick start screen. I tried installing it on my old G5 iMac running Snow Leopard, but it says it's incompatible with that product. There is no product support, and I've written to Avid, Pro Tools and Amazon, and so far (60 days) no one has returned an email message with any help. I wouldn't recommend that anyone buy it.

The cable is as thick as the wide section of the metal tip.

It appears to be heavy duty.

I'll let you know if there are any issues.

Leave extra slack as cable is heavy.

You will need somewhere big, not cup holder, to store cable.

Sound is fine.

After 3 mos, a cord size piece of metal has eroded from the middle of 1 plug.

It still works.

I don't normally write product reviews, but I felt obligated to write this one. The MINIamp has changed my life! My wife and I are elderly and quite hard of hearing. Hearing-aids don't do the trick for us. Watching DVD's and other video programs has become quite difficult and unpleasant -until we found the Behringer MINIAmp, that is. What a joy! It has made a huge difference. The sound is exquisite. My wife was formerly a professional muscian. She, too, raves about the sound. We can distinguish the first and second violins in a string quartet! The unit is simple to use, despite having two input sources and four headphone outputs. The price is truly unbelievable -a real bargain.

This isn't for anyone looking for a professional solution for a headphone amp, but for 99% of people, they just want something cheap that works, and this completes that job with extreme valiance! What a great buy! Works great, small and portable, 2 inputs and 4 channels. This means that you can have 4 headphones and on each channel you can switch between input 1 or input 2. I have this as input one is the feed before signal processing (dry) and input 2 is the signal after processing. Neat!

This headphone amp will serve my purpose well. It's plastic, and lightweight, so it seems a little less rugged than one might expect, or desire, but does the job. I was pleasantly surprised that it actually has 8 headphone jacks, four on the front panel and four on the back, but the level can only be controlled four the four main outs on the front panel. The unit has a source level and a headphone level control so you can easily get a nice strong signal and trim back the output volume with the headphone level.

I record a podcast and sometimes have 3 or more people joining me in the studio. The Behringer Ultra Compact Headphone Amp does the job, allowing us to all monitor our studio mics and whoever we're voice chatting with online for the show. I recommend it for podcasters who need extra headphone outs for co-hosts and guests.

You'll need headphones with 1/4 inch stereo phono plug, or an 1/8 in. to 1/4 in. adapter for headphones with smaller plugs.

If you're looking for a decent headphone amp and you're on a budget, this is the way to go. I've been a professional musician and audio engineer for 20 years now and I usually shy away from Behringer products, but I've been less than wealthy lately so I figured I'd give this a shot. It's loud, it works, and does what it says it does. I didn't give it 5 stars because it's very lightweight and made of plastic so I'm afraid if it ever takes a tumble it will wind up in pieces or just not work anymore. It also doesn't sound amazing.. I'm not saying it sounds bad, but I did notice a quality difference in audio when using it. That being said, this is a great tool for a home studio.

Odd as it sounds, I actually picked this up for use with Rock Band 2 (etc.) as it has 8(!) headphone outputs over four independent channels, everyone can hook in their own favorite headphones to play and not disturb others in the room (much) or improve their playing (turn up the instrument track and the rest down a bit, really helps with drum beats).

A few potential caveats/less than ideal features:

Sound quality is a bit less than audiophile, but not much more than good enough for everything but serious music listening.

ALL inputs/outputs are 1/4" stereo (yeah, the big kind) so most people will need adapters to plug in headphones, and you'll need dual 1/4" to RCA cables (see "DJ cables") to connect to a TV.

It may just be my TV, but I had to crank the input gain nearly to the max to get a good audio level. (Still more than enough volume and quality does not seem to suffer.)

Overall it works as advertised, despite being small and lightweight (in audio, generally the heavier the better). I'm very pleased with it.

I had been looking for a lightweight, portable system for my yoga instructor who has a very soft voice. This was the perfect answer, and once she becomes accustomed to wearing it, I am confident she will continue to use it. Since the system is reasonably priced, I was able to afford to give it to her as a gift. Many of us in her class are hard of hearing seniors, so we are all grateful to be able to hear our instructor!

For the price, this unit is great. At the maximum volume, it sounds a little robotic, but I bought it so I wouldn't have to shout at my husband who doesn't hear well. I never have to use the maximum volume. I would recommend this to everyone.

I've not had a good experience with this item. The first night I put it on the clip broke out of the blue (within 5 minutes of using it). One of the main reasons I wanted it in the first place was so I didn't have to use some flimsy strap. And if you want to use it past 1/3 volume it will make you sound robotic, so pretty much, it's worthless for what I need it for.

The Danelectro Honeytone Mini Amp Beatnik Burgundy is an easy way to get great sound from your electric guitar. The color of this unit is a soft burgundy (almost brick red in color). Paired with the Zero Hum AC Adaptor, it's a highly portable amp setup. "Ultra-portable" by using a 9V battery instead of the AC adaptor. I do think they are best purchased together to enjoy all the benefits of this rig though.

A headphone jack on the amp means you can enjoy the amp's impressive sound quality without bothering the neighbors or waking your spouse.

Included with the amp is an Owner's Manual with simple start-up instructions. You'll need to have your own cord (the one that goes from the guitar to the amp isn't provided as part of the amp package...). The manual has several control settings for the following sound tweaks:

-Clean & Spanky

-Warm Jazz

-Big Amp Overdrive

-Killer Blues

-Distorted Rhythm

-Thick Solo

-Woodstock Fuzz

-Send the Cats Under the Bed

-Twang

-Mondo Sustain

-Brit Solo Tune

-Sparkle Clean

-Early 80's Clean Solo

-Late 60's Neck Solo

-70's Brit

-70's Solo

I paid under $20 for this amp and couldn't be happier with the product. Don't hesitate to pick one up for yourself.

UPDATE: 7/19/12

Well, I will be brief: amongst all of the little cheap-o battery-powered amps, this one is on the better side of the competition. This however does not mean it's good it just means all of the little amps are basically rather crappy. The noise is very obvious, the speaker is ...well... unclean, sound-wise. I have been able to get some Clapton-esque tones for practice (Crossroads, Cocaine), some dirty blues sounds (J.L.Hooker kind of thing). It is possible to get almost clean sound for blues as well, and some classic rock sound for Bad Company kind of stuff. You are not going to get any shredding done though, neither it would ooze honey tones in your ears, as its name could suggest :) It is good for what it is just grab it and play for 10-15 minutes when you have the urge to pick-up your guitar, so just to be able to kind of make out what you are playing (i.e. 'practice'). Well, practice usually takes 1.5 2 hours for me, so this is just a toy, really.

Power adapter is really a must (good that I happened to have a nice collection). It is loud enough to jam along with an acoustic guitar (play in the street) but mind you, not for long (battery!).

So as long as you realize what exactly this thing is good for, then it is an Ok product.

Buy Fom Amazon Now

Seriously, this little thing is just absolute gold...

It's a pocket-amp so it has a sound of its own. It's always amusing to see guys bash mini amps because they don't sound like a Marshall half-stack. Yeah... No kidding, Einstein. It sounds like a pocket amp.

You get on-board volume, tone and OD, 1/4" input for a cord and a 3.5mm input for phones. Huge bonus on the latter, with dedicated headphone amps being pricey. This can do both, while a headphone amp is just a headphone amp.

My preferred settings are to dime the tone knob, then play with the volume and overdrive to get the sound I want. If you play slide, this is quite possibly the perfect sound. I'd mic up and record with this with a slide, rather than trying to duplicate this sound with pedals or an effects processor.

One thing I can't comment onbut do believe is trueis that the product line may suffer from QC issues, right out of the box. While mine has been functional, it does have that plastic'y, cheap'y feel to it. It's not a rock-solid piece of roadgear, so don't expect that. It's the sort of thing that you take out of the box and say to yourself, "Yeah, I can envision this not lasting very long,", then immediately commence to playing with it, knowing that you won't be let down when it finally does die. It wouldn't be a shock if some guys bougt them and they were junk right out of the box.

Still, mine works fine. It's a $20 practice amp that gives off a great, crunchy sound. Take it for what it is and don't have delusional expectations, 100% guarantee you'll dig it. If I get a year out of mine, I'll order a new one when it breaks. If Danelectro made one for $39.99 rather than $19.99 and doubled the quality level, it might be the best thing, ever.

The product is okay, but the tax that i was charged before i could claim it in Germany was not okay by me. I had to pay what i did not want to pay. I think that American Amazon should have a deep understanding with the consumer countries with regards to tax at delivery. This will ensure an overall satisfaction of consumers. I had so much misunderstanding with the custom/clearance office in Germany where i live and use this product. One other thing is, the American Amazon should check, in terms of electronic devices, the voltage and watts of the electricity being used in the consumer country their product is going to. They should make sure to supply also a corresponding current/voltage regulator/trasformer or converter so that the consumer will not run the risk of not using their product or the trouble of having to buy an extra current converter. I had to use batteries because the current in Germany was far lower than what the product should use. After so much search, i did found a converter, but that should not be and it has rendered the cable with which my product came with useless. These things should be looked into. All the best to you guys at Amazon. Peace!

I've used Shure E2C's for about 5 years (2 or 3 pairs). My most recent pair finally started wearing through the wire coating, and I have too much pride to just electrical tape them (not to mention there are dozens of holes in the insulation). I should note that purchased the clear version of these earphones, but am posting where most of the reviews have already been made.

So I decided it was time to replace the E2C's and wanted to see what my options were. I looked at the Shure SE110's and SE210's, but didn't find many favorable reviews (especially when juxtaposed with the E2C's). I peaked around at other brands but decided I've been too happy with Shure to risk it.

I settled on the SCL2's, assuming they were somehow better than the E2C's, given they are the "Pro" version of the same phones.

My initial reaction is that the sound is more homogenized than the E2C's. I don't feel like I'm listening to the band play live, I feel like I'm listening to them in The Matrix. The sounds feels more synthetic and less real. Given that I've used the E2C's for years, I confident the fit is not the issue; my ears know where they are supposed to fit.

I have read that there is a break-in period for these earphones; I tend to believe that as I've seen break-in periods on all types of speakers (car, home, computer, etc.) I'm 3 weeks in today, and I just hope this break-in doesn't take much longer.

All in all, the phones are very good. After listening for about 30 minutes, I don't really notice the sound being odd. If there is a lack of anything, I would say its treble, as I've had to play with the EQ a bit to get the highs where they should be.

If I had the choice, I'd probably move back to the E2C's. I'm still confident though that these SCL2's will break in.

That's my review for now. I'll do my best to come back and update this in a couple months, hopefully after the break-in.

>>>> UPDATE (6/4/08): Sure enough, the break-in did wonders for the sound quality of these headphones. I would now say these are at least as good as the E2C's, and I would buy these again without hesitation.

Another note is that the cord on these phones seems much more durable and flexible than the E2C's.

>>>> UPDATE (10/26/08): They finally cracked like all of my E2C's have done. Given these headphones are used every day of the week for nearly 12 hours each day (no joke), they were bound to let go sooner or later. The crack showed up an inch from the left earphone, and over a week's time, it split open and exposed wires. As I write this, the earphones are in route to Shure's Service Dept. to be replaced (in all likelihood).

I'm not looking forward to another month-long break-in period, but I am looking forward to getting another new set of these phones. Despite the recurring theme of Shure's products (cracks in the rubber), I will continue to buy and *LOVE* their products for the sound quality. I would rate this item FIVE STARS after 7 months of use.

>>>> UPDATE (11/1/08): Shure replaced the cracked earphones at no charge. Being impatient as I am, the wait seemed like ages (in reality, it took about 14 days from the day I shipped the old earphones to the day I received the new ones).

I *think* the cord on the new earphones is just a bit shorter, or my old cord had stretched out a bit. Also, the break-in period didn't take nearly as long as the first time. After about a week with these new earphones, I would venture to say they are about as broken-in as my previous pair were in 3 months. Sweet!

>>>> UPDATE (2/18/09): The cord near the ears is definitely starting to get brittle, and I suspect that within a couple months there will be cracks. I really thought this pair would avoid this common problem with Shure earphones!

>>>> UPDATE (6/17/09): Amazingly, still going strong with these earphones. The cord near the ears is definitely stiff and I would hate to try bending it, but luckily its formed in the shape I need. See the comments on my review for a great suggestion on repairing the cord if it cracks.

>>>> UPDATE (10/13/09): Was forced to send in these earphones for service. The left earphone was playing at about 70% of its normal volume (and subsequently giving me weird vertigo). Shure took about 2 weeks to send a brand new pair. The new pair broke in as expected and I'm enjoying having a new set!

All in all, I'd say these are probably the best Shure earphones I've owned and I'm very pleased with the sound quality these days (audiophiles rejoice!)

Buy Shure SCL2 Sound Isolating Earphones with Single Dynamic Driver, Black Now

In response to the reviewers who complain about lack of bass and low sound quality you haven't put them in your ears correctly. This type of earphone demands a good fit. That is, they must be lodged in your ear canal, making a seal. This takes some practice and trying out the various sizes and types of included tips, but the results are worth it. The sound quality is excellent and external ambient noise is strongly attenuated.

The Shure SCL2 is the next incarnation of the E2/E2c. The only difference I notice is that the wires are softer and more flexible, which helps keep the drivers in your ears the rigid wires of the E2/E2c had a tendency to pull them out. The reviews on Amazon for the E2 and E2c (which, by the way, are the same product) generally apply to the SCL2 as well.

These are great. When I got my first MP3 I did a lot of research. Bottom line, no matter what player you get, throw away the earphones and get quality. Shure was the one most recommended by those in the know. You must get a seal in your ear to get "bass" and when you do... you do get bass. The sound is amazing, super, clear, full bass. You need to play with the various ear peices. A lot of people like the foam, I prefer the black rubber pieces. Here is the best part. They are guaranteed for two years. Not figuring mine would ever go bad I did not save the sales receipt. One day 2 1/2 years later I got one ear-phone wet, so it quit. I put the earphones in an envelope, wrote that I had been a user of Shure since my hippy days, and that I did not bother to save the receipt. I wrote that if they could help me great, if not, throw them away. Two weeks later, without a question, they sent me a new set of earphones free. Now that is a great company. One more thing. If you use the foam, wet them a little first. One day on the treadmill at the gym I got an insight...wet them with a little syliva first. Wow!!!! perfect, perfect fit. What a difference.

This is one company that got the product and the follow-up support right.

I had a pair of E2C's that sounded great for under $100 earphones. I used them so much that the wire began to fray after about a year (even with the thick wire covering). While I had them for a year (standard electronics product warranty duration) I sent them back to Shure along with a photocopy of my original receipt and they simply sent me a new pair of SCL2's, no questions asked. The SCL2 is the new version of the E2C's. There is an automatic 2 year warranty on all Shure products. You don't have to register, purchase a warranty extension; you just get it for buying their product. Nice.

When I first tried out these earphones, there was no low end at all...they sounded worse than the stock iPod ear buds. Then I switched from the clear PVC sleeves to the soft black rubber. What a difference. The sound had a nice full range and is very warm. The rubber sleeves fit so well that when removing them I had to break the air tight seal first (be careful of that pull them out nice and easy). Once sealed in your ears, these earphones block out most ambient noise, which allows you to listen to music at a much lower volume.

These are definitely the best earphones I have used. The big over the ear headphones can sound better, but if you want an small earphone, these sound pretty good.

Pros: Neutral sounding from bass to treble, sounds good from a portable player, added bass and comfort

Cons: A tad large and loose fitting, additional cost compared to the AKG K701, not super easy to drive

A big thanks to Headphone.com for loaning me the AKG K712 Pro and HD650 for this review.

A hearty thanks to Tyll Hertsens from Innerfidelity.com for loaning me a pair of AKG Q701 also used in this review.

GEAR

Initial testing on an iPod touch ( 3rd Gen )

The idea with the iPod is to ensure that it can drive the headphone to loud listening levels and still remain under 100% volume. The K712 Pro did that and sounded great through the iPod touch.

Full review conducted on my home rig:

Source: PC playing 256kbps AAC or better files

DAC: Grace Design m903 ( 24 bit mode )

AMP: HeadRoom BUDA in single ended mode

Interconnects: Kimber PBJ RCA and Seismic Audio Balanced patch cables

INITIAL TEST TRACKS

Check Corea: Three Ghouls, Part 1

Karsh Kales: Longing

Maroon 5: Won't Go Home Without You

Michael Jacskon: Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'

Patricia Barber: Dansons la Gigue

The Beach Boys: Surfin' USA

They Might Be Giants: Spiraling Shape

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

A quick inspection reveals some much appreciated updates. The headband no longer has bumps on the inside and is made of leather, the cable is detachable, and the earcups are extremely comfortable. From my iPod the test tracks were very involving and the improved bass was noticed. I gave the K712 Pro an initial listen in my laser lab where things become quite noisy. With my head deep inside the confines of my flow booth I had to set the volume to 70% which seemed pretty high for the advertised sensitivity and impedance. Even on my home rig the BUDA remained on high gain and about set to 1/3 output. That in mind they did sound quite good at this volume. Things sounded great and the comfort improvements are huge in my book as I hardly noticed I was wearing headphones while working.

LET'S TEST THIS THING

Check Corea's Three Ghouls, Part 1: This track tests quickness, realism, and treble. It also tests how up-front sounding a headphone can be. The K712 Pro sounded full, quick, and perhaps a tad lean on the piano. They lacked a little of the rough attack the headphones like the HD650 deliver with this track. Then again the kick drum was much more realistic with the K712 Pro than the HD650.

Karsh Kale's Longing is a track I use for general imaging and engagement. As Tyll will tell you sometimes how a headphone makes you feel tells a lot about the headphone itself. The separation and sense of space is just awesome with the K712 Pro. From the bass to treble there is a very nice cohesion and fluidity making this track very enjoyable. The K712 Pro sounds less tinny than the HD650 here and revealing to the sound image.

Maroon 5's Won't Go Home Without You: This is a track I typically use to test crossover issues with speakers and IEMs. It also gives rise to issues with male vocals and too up-front sounding headphones. Most AKG K7xx headphones have some issues with up-front sounding drums and vocals. I would say the K712 Pro is very similar sounding as the HD650 in this regard, but the airy bass on the K712 Pro is just awesome. The K712 Pro is smoother than the HD650 on the vocals removing the edginess.

Michael Jacskon's Wanna Be Startin' Somethin': Another track testing the up-front nature of headphones. It also tests treble and vocals as with some headphones like the AH-D2000 and K701 can be harsh. No doubt here even though the K712 Pro sounds nice with this track they are bright and up-front for my ears. The HD650 removes the harshness at the cost of some realism in the bass guitar. If you are an engineer looking to find issues with treble these are good headphones for that. As for home listening the treble may find itself EQed down a bit. Dropping 315Hz, 400Hz, as well as 3150Hz and 6kHz tamed the K712 Pro a bit. No surprises here as this is what I typically view the sound signature of most AKG headphones.

Patricia Barber's Dansons la Gigue: A great tack to test separation, bass, and female vocals. A headphone like the Grado RS-1i struggles here as things become too even sounding. The bass blurs into the mids and further into the treble. The richness of the guitar sounds spectacular with the K712 Pro. It is possible the best sounding dynamic headphone in this regard. The HD650 begins to blur the guitar into the mids and there is a strange blurring of the vocals with the HD650 that I simply do not hear with the K712 Pro. The K712 Pro is definitely a soft jazz headphone.

The Beack Boys' Surfin' USA is a track I use to test how even a headphone may sound. Much like using Pink Noise it reveals any glaring issues like a lack of midrange smoothness, imaging, and even quickness. The AKG K712 Pro removed the excess hiss on the letter "s" heard on the HD650. Again here it was more about what headphone signature works well with the given track. I liked the K712 Pro more as it sounded less colored and perhaps even laid back to that signature of the HD650.

They Might Be Giant's Spiraling Shape is a track I use to test male vocals in detail, how the kick drum resonates, as well as test the metallic splash of the crash cymbal. Here the HD650 sounded really colored compared to the AKG K712 Pro. The Pro sounds much more even from the kick drum through the vocals. The HD650 blurs the vocals into the bass.

If your music collection or production work consists more of acoustic guitar, drum, and vocals the K712 Pro scores excellently and would be my preference over the HD650. For music like hard rock the Pro may wield a bit too much bite and up-front sounding midrange compared to the HD650. As with many AKG headphones this will diminish slightly over time.

CONCLUSION

The AKG K712 Pro is a headphone that sounds very good and speaker-like. The added bass is actually very impressive on particular tracks like Dream by Kroke. Bass not found in the other AKG headphones that I have heard. It is a headphone I find myself listening to over the HD650 at times because with certain tracks is sounds more full and pleasant. In the end it is really about preference, but rest assured the AKG K712 Pro is an excellent and amazing sounding headphone.

At $499 I cannot help but feel that this headphone is on the expensive side. In some areas it improves upon the sound of the HD650, but in other areas it remains hard to listen to due to the peaks at 2kHz, 7kHz, and 8kHz. The build quality is really good and the headphone will look great with any home or production setup. As others have mentioned if the price drops to $350 I think others including myself would be all over the K712 Pro, but at $499 you start looking at the Q701 and Momentum. It definitely looks like AKG is targeting the somewhat lean $399 $499 market, but I would like to see this headphone around $299-$399.

I also want to comment on the fit. The K712 Pro is very comfortable and can be worn for hours without fatigue on the outer ear or top of the head. The earcups rest a bit low on my head making me wish I could further adjust the headband. The somewhat common issue with the elastic on the auto adjusting headband may wear out like their other headphones, but keeping good care of your cans should prevent that from happening.

My brief experience with the K712 Pro has been a good one and with more listening I imagine it will only improve.

This is my first keyboard, but it's obvious that Yamaha has perfected the entry level keyboard. It comes programmed with 100 songs with lighted keys to help guide you through them all. All of the 100 songs are in the song book as well. You can chose to play the right hand only, left hand only, or both hands.

There are 3 modes I love the implementation and the choices for how I can go about learning a song.

1. Listen and Learn: listen to the song and you can watch the key lights/follow along in the song book.

2. Timing: the lighted keys show up for the selected hand without sound, while the sound comes through for the unselected hand. Useful for learning one hand of a song independently.

3. Waiting: the keyboard shows the lighted key, and waits for you to play it.

I also connected the keyboard to my laptop via a USB cable that wasn't provided. No more need for an extra $30 USB to MIDI converter to use Synthesia. Everything works after configuring the keyboard in the Synthesia software. The keys light up with the notes and the music comes through the keyboard speakers/headphone jack.

My main gripe is the useless junk from World Tour that is packaged with the keyboard. The headphones are horrid I'm using my own headphones with a 1/4 inch jack. The stand is also unusable because it doesn't fit the keyboard, and it gives just enough when you push to never want to place the keyboard on top of the thing. I'm using my desk for now... The wall plug works, but it could be longer.

My advice is to buy the EZ-220 without the extras, get a compatible wall plug, and get a decent keyboard stand.

In short: Keyboard is great, works fully with Synthesia via USB, quality fails on the World Tour items.

The Keyboard is awesome and worth for the money.

Good for the beginners.

The package is not worth it. means the Keyboard is good.

The world tour stand never going to fit for your keyboard.

So whoever wants to buy keyboard just buy the keyboard alone not with this crap worldtour stand bundle.

If you buy with this stand, the stand will help to dry your wet clothes under sun and not for your keyboard.

Finally, Yamaha Keyboard EZ220 keyboard is nice with the sound and the voices and the built in songs and the lights which will help the beginners to learn your favourite songs.

Great keyboard that is all I expected but one needs to have someplace to set it because the stand is garbage. I should have read the reviews first.

Want Yamaha EZ-220 61-Lighted Key Premium Portable Keyboard Package with Headphones, Stand and Power Sup Discount?

** Please be aware that the keyboard does NOT fit the stand! It can still sit ON the stand without a problem, but you can't anchor it in. So if you'll be using this keyboard in a situation on stage or standing with a lot of movement, you'll need to find a way to attach it properly, or simply get a proper stand. I already knew this from other reviews before purchasing but knew from experience that I could still set the keyboard on the stand well enough for my purposes.***

I got this keyboard as a gift for my partner who has never really touched a piano before but wanted to learn how to play. This system is great for beginner practice! The grand piano sounds is good, and although the keys are not weighted they are touch-sensitive, so when you hit the keys harder the sound is louder, similar to a real piano. There are a multitude of different instruments that are great to play around with but serve no real purpose at the moment. The built-in metronome is a great help. I thought it would be useless, but it has turned out to be an asset in helping maintain constant rhythm while doing scales.

We haven't started using the pre-programmed songs or the lighted keys for learning, but upon my own short test of this feature, it seems like it might be relatively useless. The lighted keys are a cool idea though I just don't know if we'll use them for a long time. The iPad app works well, but again it's usefulness might be limited. I already have sheet music for beginners and I thought the iPad app would be provide more versatility than just digitized sheet music with an auto-page turn feature (it uses the iPad mic to determine where you are in the song, and turns the page for you.)

So this keyboard does exactly what I expected for the price. I don't know if intermediate players will like it because it has all the typical issues with cheaper keyboards (plastic non-weighted keys that click if you touch them too hard, for example). But if you have a beginner in the house and you really don't want to spend a lot on a good electric or real piano, this is a good place to start!

Oh, and we don't use the headphones so I can't comment on those...

I just recd the keyboard and it took me 10mins to figure the stand is not for this keyboard. Guys, please do not put this keyboard in the box, the kids almost knocked it over on the stand. I should have read the other reviews before. Keyboard looks good so far. Amazon, please do not put the stand with this keyboard, its a waste of time.

Thanks

This entire package is garbage. The headphones have no bass. I plugged my bass guitar into this thing and the headphones would crackle with every note played. The microphone does plug in through XLR, but vocals come out ugly sounding. The interface itself, while simple to use, gives me terrible latency when using adobe audition 3.0, to where you cant even record vocals because your ears are confused. and that leads me to using the audacity software that comes with it(which there are no instructions for) and im unable to master my vocals. So in short, this entire bundle sucks, and i wouldnt recommend it to anyone.

I purchased this package as a restock from Guitar Center for $39.99. Even at the list price of $199.99 this would be a great value. I used Cakewalk Music Creator 6 software to lay down 3 vocal tracks and a drum track to test the sound. It sounded great on the initial setting in Music Creator and even better with some tinkering in the software. Contrary to the other review, the headphones sound fine with enough base and the microphone is good quality. Recorded sound through all three inputs (RCA, 1/4 inch Stereo and mic) sounded great. I would use multi-track recording software such as Music Creator or ACID Music Studio though rather than the included Audacity software.
