Basic Instructions for MyZone Headset
I have trouble hearing some of the words from the TV, especially if they are whispered or very quiet. My wife bought this unit for me to hear better without turning up the volume.
My experience with this headphone set was similar to many of yours. I was able to get it working only after reading the instructions and all these comments here where two people actually gave useful information. I've had it a few weeks now and have experimented with it and feel confident that I'm able to give step-by-step instructions that may help you get started enjoying this unit. First a few notes:
Note 1 This is nothing like a cell phone, iPod, or tablet so experience with those won't help you here. You will need to follow a different path to make it work.
Note 2 There will be some trial-and-error to finally have success.
Note 3 This unit has a built-in attenuator circuit so when it scans around the room and finds a strong signal it will attenuate (turn off) all other signals and give you just the one.
Note 4 This is an electronic device that relies on a direct line-of-site beam between the units. Don't let anything be placed between them. I have noticed that when I hold up my Android tablet near my face it interferes with the signal, giving me static. A remote or a cell phone might do the same.
Step by step instructions:
1. Open the box and remove all the items, making sure you have them all.
2. You will need to find fresh batteries for both units, 2 AA cells for the transmitter stand, and 2 AAA for the headset. Be sure you orient them as shown.
3. Plug the transmitter into the TV or cable box. This requires some thought on your part. You can plug it into the output sockets on the back of the cable box (if you use one) and this will bring you good sound from all broadcast programming. But since it bypasses any DVD drive, VCR, or external hard drive plugged into the TV you won't hear anything from them. It is best to plug it into the TV as you will get it all.
4. With it plugged in, turn on both the transmitter stand, with the red switch, and the wheel on the headphones. Both will produce a tiny red light that lets you know each is ON. Point the transmitter at your chair and not too close to the TV. I found it works very good with an extension cable and placing the transmitter on a table near to me.
5. Look at the headphones closely. You will see on one side three controls. The top one, as mentioned, is the ON/OFF switch and volume control. The next one down is marked "Scan" and the bottom one is the Reset button.
6. Now turn on the TV and set the volume low. With the transmitter stand turned on, turn on the headphones and roll the wheel about half-way on its path. This is so you won't blast out your ears when a signal is found.
7. Place the transmitter in front of you facing your chair. You can be back ten feet or more and it will work very good.
8. Now put the headphones on your head. You can either place it so the controls are on the left ear, facing forward, or on the right facing back. I have experimented with it both ways and found no difference. It mostly matters if you are left of right handed. You will use the controls on the left with the fingers and on the right with your thumb.
9. When it is turned on you will hear sound but it may not be anything interesting. The sound may be a local radio station or just static or both. You may even hear your TV behind some of this.
10. Now you will need to press/click the bottom Reset button. It was tested at the factory to be sure it worked there but it is not set for your room. This will reset the circuitry to zero and you can then begin to start the scanning.
11. Press/click the Scan button once and listen. Be patient! It will take 2-3 seconds to bring in the signal. It will likely not be your TV signal but a local radio station or just static. It has picked up any signal it finds as it scans, much like your car radio. Now press it again. This may take several tries to get it right, this is the trial-and-error part I mentioned above. If it is not right yet, press it again.
12. You should finally hear ONLY the TV signal and nothing else. Now you can adjust the volume to suit.
This MyZone headphones set has been a great help to me as I can now hear everything said, even with the TV turned low or even on mute. I control it with the volume wheel.

Another reviewer pointed out that note 4, at the top, is wrong, and he is right! I have learned that if I need to leave the room during the program or movie that I can hear it the same as if I were there. Sometimes I need to click the Scan button to keep it going and then maybe click it again when I return to my chair. My only complaint now is that the on/off switch on the stand is hard to switch with one hand. It is recessed a little too far and I can't get it to move. Two hands works fine. Maybe I'll disassemble it and see if I can move it out a little. Or I can put a drop of glue on it to make a small bump. Anyone else have this problem?
Nearly a year later It finally broke! Well not the functioning of the device but the little door to the battery holder in the stand broke off the latch so it won't stay closed. I could be made stronger by the manufacturer. So I will try to find a small flange-head bolt and nut that will keep it closed. I've been using it with tape but it hasn't worked. I'll keep you posted when I get it fixed. It's too good of a product, at least for me, to stop using it.

I read the reviews before purchasing, and most helpful is when I got the headphones that I plugged the Transmitter cord plugs To My CABLE BOX (not TV). I wouldn't have known to do that without reading the tips in other's reviews. Also make sure to plug into "Audio OUT" plugs. Get solid good sound while sitting in my living room (8-10 feet from TV). Love that alone (no wires between headset and TV). It advertised up to 100 ft range. When I walk into my kitchen (less than 30 ft) or bedroom (less than 38 feet) I started to get static reception, though I could still hear what was going on. For the price though, you can't beat it.

Good grief people, if you don't set it up correctly, it's not going to work properly. I can tell by what I'm reading that that is the case with many of the poor reviews, if not all. As someone who has tried a number of wireless headphones, these are both the best and the cheapest. Yes, My Zone should have better instructions vis a vis plugging the audio jacks into the CABLE BOX instead of the TV. They do, however, tell you to hit 'Reset' and then "Scan". When you have the transmitter on, it will scan to your TV. If it's slightly unclear, hit "Scan" again. If you turn the transmitter off, you get radio! That was a very pleasant surprise to me. And the range is very good. My house is small, 900 ft. sq, but I can hear my TV in every room. If I need to get a drink while a game's on, I don't miss any of the audio. As a long time user of TV Ears (and will NEVER buy them again), these are fantastic by comparison. I cannot vouch for their longevity yet, but at $20 I will be impressed with 6 months.

Let me start by saying I had the same problems many other people had before I finally got these working. When I first got them I installed the batteries, of course, & the transmitter wouldn't turn on. I took the batteries out, put them back in, tried again, still got nothing. So I tried a third time, and a fourth, and finally I got the transmitter to switch on. I plugged it into the TV, turned on the headphones & took a listen. I was surprised to find every FM station in my area when I hit the scan button repeatedly, and when I hit reset I heard the TV audio, but it was not very clear, & anywhere beyond about 2 feet from the transmitter, I got a smattering of interference from who knows where.
Naturally, I was not pleased, to say the least. I took the set downstairs & got slightly better results (no interference & a range of about 10 feet), but I was convinced I had just made a terrible purchase & resolved to send this product back the next day. I immediately decided to write a nasty review but before I did, I read some that others had written, and decided to give the headphones another try. I'm not saying this will work for you, but HERE'S WHAT I DID, AND IT WORKED:
I turned on the transmitter, turned on the headset, pressed reset and got the usual (terrible) signal from the receiver, then hit the scan button & after passing just ONE local FM station, I found the CRYSTAL CLEAR audio from the TV. I then proceeded to walk 50 feet to the other end of the house, down the stairs & all around the basement, and never lost the signal.
I can't verify the "100 feet" claim, but I can say that it works from one floor to the next and across at least 50 feet with lots of walls and other obstructions between the transmitter & headset. I am completely happy with them now and just waiting to see how long the batteries hold up. For the frustration & lack of clear instructions I can't give it 5 stars, but this product is wonderful once you figure it out.

I purchased Myzone headphones at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $9.99 closeout. I wear hearing aids but am able to use the wireless headphones without them. I think for $9.99 or even $19.99 the headphones are a good deal. I do have to say they take some getting used to. I have Dishnetwork satellite service. I plugged the transmitter into the audio out jacks on the Dishnetwork receiver, not my TV set. The next thing I discovered was the the wireless headphones will lock onto two or three signals from the transmitter when you do the scan. Make sure it is locked into the strongest signal, otherwise the audio will have a hissing sound in it. This has to be done everytime you turn the headphones on. I like the headphones and am going to buy a second pair.
An update to my review early this year. I have discovered the headphones operate on a frequency of 88.3 FM. I can receive the signal about 200ft away on my car radio and my portable FM receiver. I can receive the signal on the haedphones almost 100 ft away. I now own 3 sets of the My Zone headphones. I would suggest that you purchase an AC adapter for the base unit. Go to eBay and search on something like "universal AC adapter". Usually dealers will have these brand mew in the box for $8 to $10 with free shipping. Get the 500ma unit which can be set or any voltage from 3 to 12 volts with 6 or 7 plugs. Set the unit for 4.5volts center positive and plug the mating plug into the base unit. I have been using the My Zone headphones for almost a year and I love them. On both TVs I have in the house and one for a spare.
