wanted a pair of headphones that were also compatible with my iphone. did my research before getting these and I'm so happy with the purchase. they come with a soft drawstring bag and a soft shell case. soft cloth covering on the ear cups. metal headband. plastic iphone remote. I've traveled three times with them and I usually just wear them around my neck because I never have the extra room in my bag. doesn't bother me but it's just something to be conscious of. got a bit of a pinhead and a thinner build and these still look proportional and great. picked the ivory color because it matches most of my stuff. amazing sound quality. great build quality. great aesthetic. only complaint is that they're pretty tight so you'll need to give your head/ears a break after about an hour. have gotten pretty used to it by now so it's not bothering me too much now.

I won these headphones from a contest Sennheiser was having (thanks, Sennheiser)and love them. great build quality, and sound. The one and only complaint I have is the comfort. Since they are on-ear, and I have Dumbo sized ears, they hurt if I wear them for more then an hour. I'm sure that won't be a problem for other people who have small to average sized ears, though. I've always loved Sennheiser and will continue to buy from them.

I need some time to figure out if I really like them in the long run, obviously they are made to impress from the first look and first sound, and it's so cool this is Sennheiser, because there is always more than just impression.

I connect to smartphone, put the volume down so I can hear and talk with people and I can still hear most of what I need of the music. These are not planar magnetic headphones for 1000$ and etc, so don't expect magic.

They definitely beat the beatz (no pun), so let's hope more of this kind of quality headphones and style will come, and not either high-end or crap.

If you like headphones with a lot of bass these are great, and they also put out a lot of sound. They are also really well made too: the headband is metal, ear cushions are cloth, and it includes two detachable cords. There's some chrome, black, and either a metallic shade of green, blue, pink or white on the headphones depending on which one you buy. They look both retro and modern. One cord has a iPod volume control. I like that it ships with 2 cords. Usually the cord is the first thing to go, so having an extra is nice.

I've owned these for about 1 month now and use them for both travel and at home. It comes with 2 cases, but only use the cloth case for travel. These are not sound isolating headphones though. Depending on where you sit on an airplane you can hear the jet engines loud and clear. I think they sound awesome though so I don't care that they are not sound isolating. Both bass heavy music and instrumental music sound great.

The metal headbands seem to be a little tight though, but have gotten used to it over a months time.

It has a very nice rich bass, equivalent to the new Beats Studio. The only thing bad about it is the poor fit for me. Because of the fit the leak is bad. The ear cup isn't as soft as the ones on Studio for sure.

I am a 36 yo man, I've always wanted to learn piano so I thought I'd get this keyboard which I thought had built in lessons that would guide my learning to play the piano...

For all intents and purposes, doesn't the description seem to infer that? That with the Y.E.S.5 teaching system and all those built in songs you'd have a well thought out lesson plan built in. That was my misunderstanding:::

What it actually is is a nice keyboard that you can learn on, but it won't teach youthe emphasis is on getting out what you put inyou have to really stumble your way thru learning the built in songs that the keyboard lights up the correct keys you're supposed to strikethere is not a good fluid way to learn a little piece at a time (It does have an A-B feature but it's not so much a loop as it is a measure to measure cycle with a 2-4 bar intro, each time!) So its not like you can just sit there and play it over and over and over again until you and your fingers get it, its: play the 2 or so bars you select (A-B) and then at the end, it goes thru at least a 2 bar beat count and then resumes the 2 bars of the song you're trying to learn.... does that make sense?

There are not lesson plans. In the book it says to "Listen to and Learn" the song. My memory isn't that fantastic that I can learn the songs by listening to them and then just learning, I think it would be a vast improvement to have a real loop feature that you could use to select a portion, loop it ad infinitum until you learn it and them move on. Also, I was really thinking that with the latest Learning System (Y.E.S.5) that there would be beginner lessons on reading the sheet music, finger drills, scales, etc... all the stuff you learn when you're learning pianothis piano system is for prodigies and people who already know piano.

So while it is a nice keyboard, it is not the EZ piano that will teach you how to play, you will have to look elsewhere to learn, or teach yourself, but this keyboard with all its songs and such will not be a step by step tutor....

I did a lot of research before I finally order YAMAHA EZ-200 a week ago from Amazon ($150+plus shipping)

I had a couple years of basic piano lessons and wanting a keyboard for myself to learn some songs for self-entertaining purpose, using synthesia program. The features that I was looking for:

-Minimal 61 keys/regular size keys for basic beginners

-lighted keys for guided practice

-LCD for guided fingering

-realistic piano sounds

-piano like touch (Touch sensitive keys)

-ability to download MIDI from the computer

After playing with YAMAHA EZ-200 for a week, it delivers what I am looking for:

-content in the box include: EZ-200 keyboard, a product manual, a song book and a demo DVD of YAMAHA products.

-the keyboard was well made (made in China), elegant look; does not have that cheap plastic feeling

-YAMAHA education suite allows you to set a section between A point and B point, which let you practice that segment repeatedly

-the keyboard does simulate a stand-up piano quality

-"Waiting" function allows lighted key to pause and wait for you to catch up the music

-Allows practice separate right hand and left hand practice

-Allows to slow down the tempo the the song (included) that helps practice

A few things I'd like to address, not related to how EZ-200 was made, but probably would have affect my purchasing decision if I had known it ahead of time:

-AC adapter NOT included with YAMAHA EZ-200.

I was shocked when I realize the AC adapter is not included, especially when the product manual stresses the importance of using an AC adapter for environmental friendly reason. After seeing many sellers include AC adapter in their package, I did suspect AC adapter may not included in the box, but I still choose to purchase EZ-200 without any other bells and whistles. A friend purchased the YAMAHA PSR-E230 bundle with a keyboard stand and earphones. She reports the stand was flimsy and not sturdy for the keyboard. I really don't need a filmsy stand that doesn't serve the purpose, but a AC adapter that can spare the use of batteries and prevent environmental pollution, I can use one.

-USB MIDI Cable Converter (PC to Music Keyboard) NOT included

The YAMAHA EZ-200 keyboard itself is excellent!!! I'll give it a 5-star rating. As for the overall package, until it comes with AC adapter, I'll give it 4 star.

C'mon, it's like a boom box radio that did not provide a AC adapter. YAMAHA, WHAT R U THINKING???

I used to take piano when I was 4 until I was a teenager. I'm only getting back into learning now, and I decided I didn't want to spend too much money until I'm dedicated to piano again. This is perfect for a beginner. It's not going to teach you entirely how to play piano, but the lighted keys are fun for playing along with something complicated you wouldn't normally try. It doesn't work as great as I hoped, especially on "Waiting" mode. If you play in time with the song, the key does not register and you have to press it twice. I haven't found an option to mute the instructional playing and allow you to play alone with the background music. But you can always play without song mode and set your own background tempo. This keyboard does not teach you how to read sheet music, or anything about the notes, so don't expect that when buying the EZ-200. You need to purchase a book or take lessons if you can afford it. I love that the keyboard has a metronome, and you can change the tempo easily. Overall this is a nice keyboard to practice with while learning.

Want Yamaha EZ-200 61 Full-Sized Touch Keyboard Discount?

The only two options in this category seem to be this and the casio, and I think the yamaha is a better product hands-down. It feels a bit more substantial, and the sound seems (to me) much improved.

The actual lighted feature is nice, and I enjoyed a few of the songs, but I was a bit dissapointed that additional songs could not be added to the keyboard itself. They do have free software online (and a few free songs) that can talk to the keyboard through MIDI, and with that you can sort of play new songs, but it doesn't take full advantage of the lighted keys.

Hard to find better headphones for cheaper than this. In fact, you probably wont. Sound quality is great....until you add some bass. These headphones seem like they were made to boost bass...which automatically disqualifies them from being called monitor headphones. Everything else is great. They're comfortable, and they come with a 1/4 input adapter to use with your interface. All in all, i love em for the price. I just wouldn't mix or master with them.

I have these headphones and am astonished at how low the price is for them because of all the headphones I have to include Sony MDR 600 and Senheiser and even Grado, these sound the best. The Grado's lack bottom and the others lack depth, but the Nadys have it all and are super clear and airy. They are a bit big and Frankenstein looking in their design and the center element can rub the cen ter of the ear annoyingly with long wear, but again the sound is tops. They look like professional studio headphones and fit tightly. I would have expected them to go for above $100 at least.

I bought these headphones specifically because they are open back and have a fair amount of good reviews on the net. I use the headphones to play guitar through my Line 6 POD HD. I've used these headphones maybe 4 times since I purchased them and the right headphone has blown out. I get constant rattling and buzzing with any bass. I have several other pairs of closed back headphones of varying quality that I have been using over the past several years for the same purpose and none of them have blown out. I'm past warranty period and now have a useless pair of near new headphones.

Would not buy again.

I am furious. I finally take these out of the packaging and they are very attractive headphones. I used them with my iPod Touch 5th Generation and they sounded good nothing spectacular, but nice nonetheless... I have been using them for 3 weeks almost. THEN... The right side goes out. I was like there is no way in the world these could have just went out like that. I thought something was wrong with my iPod. Then I took them out of the iPod and connected them to another mp3 player for good measure. Nope, nothing! This would be the moment when I find out THERE IS NO WARRANTY! The only way to get one is to purchase from "special" dealers. And the iDance site is TERRIBLE! Their support pages link you to the free audio software and about 15 downloadable pics! How is that support? Can pictures repair my headphones? NO. Main lesson learned, all "i"products are not Apple. Second lesson learned, never purchase based off of looks of the product description alone. And my final lesson, always check the warranty! I am soooo happy I have my Beats Headphones on the way! What a waste of money. I am so happy I waited to write a review.

I was attracted to this product first by design and color. They, along with others from the same maker, are some of the best looking headphones on the market. However, they do not keep up technically if you are using them directly in the club scene as a DJ. Just for light usage at low volume.

As a songwriter who needs something that will allow me quickly to jot down song ideas and fragments, as well as completed songs, this unit is a little cumbersome. In order to create a song, you must do the following:

1. Turn on unit

2. Press "Menu" button

3. Scroll to "Song" menu item

4. Click a function button to select

5. Using the data wheel, scroll down to "Create"

6. Click a function button to select

7. Use data wheel to enter name of song one laborious letter at a time (optional step: you can forgo naming a song and it will be named "Song023" etc.)

8. Click "Home" button

9. Click "Rec" buttons for tracks 1 and 2 (assuming you want to record in stereo).

10. Click the record transport and play transport buttons together, to start the recording process (I'm assuming you have already set the input levels and want to use the built-in mics)

11. Click the stop transport button when you are done recording your song

12. Repeat steps 9-11 if you wish to overdub another voice or instrument on tracks 3 and/or 4.

13. Click "Menu" button, then "Play" to listen to playback

14. Click stop button at end of song

15. Click "In/Out" button

16. Click function key "Out" to set the out point

17. Click "Rec Mode" button

18. Using data wheel, scroll down to "Master Rec"

19. Click function key to select

20. Click the record transport and play transport buttons together, to start the recording process for the "master" track (this is simply a stereo mixdown of the four tracks)

21. Click "Rec Mode" button

22. Using data wheel, scroll up to "Multi Track"

23. Click function key to select

24. Click "Menu" button

25. Scroll using data wheel to "Wave"

26. Click function key to select

27. Scroll down to "Export Master"

28. Click function key to select

29. Use data wheel to enter name of song one letter at a time (optional step: you can forgo naming a song and it will be named "Song023" etc.)

30. Click function key to execute exporting of the master stereo tracks to the FAT partition of the SD card within the unit.

31. Attach unit to your computer via the supplied USB cable

32. Open folder to view the files on the Tascam

33. Click the "Wave" folder to find the master tracks you just created.

34. Go to a file conversion program to convert the ".wav" file to an ".mp3" file, so you can email it to your friends, etc.

Whew! Not exactly a quick, friendly, intuitive process!

What you want is a two-click process to start recording (as on my old mini-disk recorder), and then be able to connect to a computer to copy the file and convert. There are an awful lot of extra steps involved, but of course you are talking about four tracks, not just stereo, so there's just no getting around the necessity of the mix-down/mastering. What is a little odd and annoying are those extra steps to export the master to the FAT partition of the Tascam SD card (steps 27-30, above).

Also, since each song file must be loaded before you can listen to it, there is no way to play songs one after the other unattended, or zip quickly between songs like you can do on an iPod or CD player, to audition which is which (thus naming them is critical).

Anyway, a word to the wise if you want something quick and easy. You pay for the ability to make a multi-track recording. On the other hand, if you want something with great quality recording sound, ample storage (a 16 GB SDHC card gives you 1300 track minutes in the 8 GB partition you can create (the largest possible), very nice and sensitive built-in stereo mics, and something you can use to create an excellent mini-demo, then this will definitely do the trick.

TIP: Purchase a PSP-100 power adaptor. It is made for the Sony Playstation and is identical to the more costly PS-P520 Tascam says you have to buy (i.e., 5V, 2A, correct plug and polarity). I paid $5 for mine, not $30!

Buy Tascam DP-004 Digital 4-Track Recorder Now

This is my favorite toy at the moment. I bought it to use it for what it's supposed to be used for a multitrack recorder. I wanted to record myself playing rhythm guitar and then do some lead over the top.

I own a decent Yamaha cassette tape 4-track from the late 80's. How far things have come since then! The DP004 runs from 4AA batteries and fits in the pocket of a pair of baggy shorts. Sure, it's only got 2 audio inputs, no EQ and you can only record 2 tracks at once, but for the price it's fantastic functionality. The user guide is well written and very comprehensive 111 pages in all.

If you're trying to use it to record lectures or other lengthy stereo performances, you've picked the wrong tool. It will do it, but it only records in 44.1kbps, 16bit WAV format big files! If you need to record lectures, buy a dictaphone. The supplied 1GB SD card (ATP brand for mine) is only useful for learning how to use the machine. I put an 8GB Transcend SDHC card in and it says I have 408mins worth of record time on a 2GB partition. (It made itself 3 x 2GB partitions).

The four track recordings go on a proprietary MTP partition on your SD card and the WAV files end up in a FAT partition that your PC can read. The bigger the SD card you put in, the more and the bigger the partitions you get. It wants to format a card as soon as you put a "new" one in. It won't format the whole card into one partition. To the bloke who reckons it ate his card read the part in the manual (p85) that tells you how to reformat the whole card to FAT32 after you've finished using it.

True, there are several steps involved in mixing down your four tracks into a stereo master and then exporting the stereo master to a WAV file. You can fiddle with the level and pan settings during the mixdown, so that's why it takes place in real time. Remember it's supposed to be used for recording garage band ideas, not bootlegging orchestra recitals.

I have done just that however I tried recording my son's school percussion ensemble. I just left the unit on the floor under my seat with the microphones pointed towards the band. Even with the mics only 4" apart, it gives an amazing stereo image. Captures the bass drums, bells and cymbals beautifully. There is a very slight perceptible hiss from (good) headphones on playback, but I'm not sure whether that's the recorder or just the headphone amplifier. This is not a 48-track professional studio mixer with XLR inputs and a gajillion knobs and sliders what can you expect?

The built-in mics have three gain settings high, mid, low and there is an input gain adjust and overload LEDs for each channel. I've tried recording bands with the built-in mic on several MP3 players, and the gain is too high you just get distortion. I have placed the DP004 about 2' from my son's drum set and on the "low" setting it works a treat.

The unit is very easy to use and I've only had to refer to the manual a couple of times to learn everything I needed. The user interface works just like a tape recorder with cue/review, play and stop buttons. You can also jump to any point in the track by changing the index time values (h:mm:ss) with the data wheel.

What a superb piece of kit!

[Edit 7/29/09] One thing lacking that I quickly discovered it has no automatic punch in/out. Tascam's website blurb says it does, but the firmware clearly doesn't support this. You can manually punch in/out but that's next to useless when you're trying to re-record part of a bungled guitar solo for instance. It's not physically possible to let go of the guitar mid song, push the "punch in" button on the recorder and get your hands back on the guitar in the split second before your solo starts. My ancient Yamaha tape 4-track does have this feature. I emailed their tech support about this and got no response whatsoever. Not even a "We're not going to answer your question" email. If anyone can figure out how to do this, please let me know! All it needs is a firmware update; no hardware modification. Still an excellent tool, despite this.

[Edit 12/4/09] I just noticed Tascam now do a DP-008, which is a very similar unit but with 8-track recording. Guess what the '008 has an auto punch in/out feature! I emailed their tech support again, begging them to release a firmware update for the DP-004 with this missing feature included. Join my campaign and email them the more people that bug them, the more likely they will oblige. You can find their (Teac's) customer support email address on their website.

I just bought the Tascam DP004 pocket studio so that I could record my music, mix tracks, etc. Just a few short points I guess, since this is the first device like this that I've bought.

1) A big complaint is that you can't just turn it on and record (when those inspirational moments come, they just come...) When it turns on, the previous track you recorded on is loaded up, so you can over-write your previous stuff if you just turn on the unit and start recording. Instead, you have to go through some digital menus and create a new file name. When practiced, it takes 20-30 seconds, depending how much effort you want to put into naming the file (somewhat annoying, using the turn dial to select each letter one by one from a long list).

2) Buy the PSP100 power supply, not the tascam brand one. It'll save you at least $20. I have the PSP100 and it works like a 5 volt charm.

3) Recording multiple tracks is easy, and track editing is great. But every time you press the record button, the button physically makes a clicking sound. This sound is recorded and will appear on your track. This is lame.

4) There is a learning curve on this device, but it's not at all unreasonable given what this puppy can do. Just look at the instructions and figure it out as you go along.

5) The unit attaches to computer for data transfer via usb, and this works fine (the tascam just pretends that it's an SD card reader, it seems). If your computer already has an SD card reader though, you might as well forget using it for tascam file transfers. Getting the SD card out of the tascam is a pain. It's hidden in the battery compartment, and it cannot be removed without removing the batteries. Oh well.

6) The built in microphones are great quality. Now just a caveat I'm no professional sound engineer, but there's no extraneous noises, hissing, static or any other type of interference that I can detect. I can record a quiet part and amplify it 10 times when I get it to my computer, and it still sounds great.

A great buy, as long as it doesn't fly into a million pieces anytime soon. (It's sturdy, lol.)

Addendum: Tascam DP-004 handles external microphones very poorly. I've just been recording using the internal condenser microphones, which are actually pretty good, but I upgraded to a shure sm-57 mic, plugged it into the tascam (an xlr-to-1/4 cable) and found that it picks up a lot of noise. The problem wasn't the microphone either. In fact, I have read non-amazon reviews using much better microphones than me, and no one can get external mic recordings nearly as clean as what the tascam's internal condenser mics get. So if you get this tascam, you're sort of stuck with the sound quality of the mics that it comes with: fairly noiseless but with only mediocre quality, frequency distribution, etc. Had I known this, I would not have bought the tascam. To be fair though, it doesn't even have xlr inputs, so maybe I should have taken the hint...

Want Tascam DP-004 Digital 4-Track Recorder Discount?

I use it for recording acoustic violin and Yamaha P-90 electronics piano.

Pro 1: Function very well and its compact size.

Pro 2: Built-in internal microphone is excellent.

Minor Con 1: There is no preamp capability. A phantom power adapter or preamp is required for most microphones.

Minor Con 2: The optional power supply PS-P520 is not a generic 5-volt AC adapter. The DC plug shape is not standard. If AC adapter is not an option to you, you need to spend another $20 to $30 on this adapter.

Minor Con 3: The two microphone/line-in inputs are both ¼", not 3-pin XLR. This is not a problem for guitars. For XLR microphone, XLR to ¼" adapter is required.

A year or so ago I bought a Boss Micro-BR for portable and home recording, and after fighting with it for a few months, I sold it. It worked well enough, and had a lot features, like built in effects and drum tracksbut it was way too complicated to use. Every time I took it out it seemed I had to review the manual. Even when when I thought I had the functions all sorted out, it was easy to get confused, with all the menus and sub-menus. I sold it after a few months. Why couldn't they make a cheap multitrack recorder that was as easy to use as the old Tascam cassette-based Portastudios?

Enter the DP-004. While it's not as easy to use as the old cassette units, it's pretty easyand it does a lot more than any cassette deck ever did. It doesn't have effects or drum tracks (it does have a metronome function) but it does have a lot of knobs and buttons where the Micro BR used menus, and it has two microphonesmaking it a great portable stereo recorder.

The DP-004 does have menus, but once you've set the parameters for a session (inputs, track assignments) you can pretty much ignore most of them until it's time for mastering, and even then it's not too complex. Most of the time you can just use the default settings. Live stereo recordings using the built-in microphones can be done with the DP-004 right out of the box: Punch record on tracks 1 and 3, adjust the levels, and hit the RECORD and PLAY buttons. That's it.

I find myself using the stereo recording function even more than the multitrack capability. It's great for recording practice sessions (or school concerts, for you parents) and yet costs about the same as a lot of the two channel recorders.

It's not perfect. I'd prefer less menu functions and more buttons and switches, but I suppose that would have raised the price and made it larger. Battery life could be better, too, but an AC adapter works well at home. (Hint: Use the Sony PSP100 power supply, which can be had for a fraction of the price of the Tascam unit.) For the money, it's pretty hard to beat.

I ordered this expecting at least mediocre audio fidelity

When i got it, the packaging had already been opened even though they were brand new.

Both of the lines caused high fuzz and interference and rendered them useless.

I did get a full refund along and was able to keep the broken product.

If you can stand the fuzz, these technically will work, but maybe I just got unlucky.

I'M A BLUESMAN WHO PERFORMS ON THE STREETS OF NEW ORLEANS, AND THE HOG 20 IS JUST GREAT FOR WHAT I DO. THE BATTERIES SEEM TO LAST FOREVER....I'VE PLAYED FOR DAYS AND NEVER REALLY SAW ANY INDICATION THAT THEY WERE RUNNING DOWN. TECH SUPPORT TOLD ME TO RUN THE HOG FOR 6 HOURS AND THEN CHARGE IT FOR 3...WHICH I DO, AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS. I PLAY BLUESHARP THROUGH A GREEN BULLET AND THE 3 CONTROL KNOBS GIVE ME JUST THE SOUND I WANT. THE HOG 20 DOSN'T LOSE THAT GRITTY, RUSTY SOUND I LIKE...EVEN ON LOW VOLUME. I NEVER PLAY ON MORE THAN 1/4 VOLUME IN THE STREET....AND IT'S...REAL...LOUD. I EVEN DID A FEW CLUB GIGS USING THE HOG 20 BY MIC'ING IT THROUGH THE P.A. IT HELD UP LIKE A CHAMP. THE TECH SUPPORT IS ALSO GREAT. I CALLED MORE THAN ONCE FOR ADVICE AND ALL MY CALLS WERE PROMPTLY AND COURTIOUSLY RETURNED. I USED TO OWN A "LIL' MOUSE"...SQUEEK, SQUEEK (IF YOU ARE A MUSICIAN, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN)....NOW I GOT A "BIG HOG"...OINK! OINK! GET ONE TOO. THE HOG 20 "BRINGS HOME THE BACON!" I GA-RONE-TEE. The good: the amp is convenient, has a nice growling tone, a fairly nice clean tone, and is pretty loud. And, so far, holds it's charge to my satisfaction.

The bad: you can't simply run it off of A/C on a continuous basis or you will (according to the instructions) ruin the battery. Instead, you have to keep the battery charged and run it off the battery. But if you're not using it, you're supposed to drain the battery.

All of which makes this a high-maintenance amp for someone who only wants to use it occassionally. I can accept the inconvenience and planning-ahead of keeping a battery charged when your purpose is to use it as a portable. But for someone who wants to use it as a practice amp at home, this is onerous.

Seems the amp could easily have an A/C mode. Maybe the manufacturer has good reasons for not offering that. Anyway, I didn't see this mentioned anywhere before I bought it and wanted to alert other potential buyers whose intended use is like mine -that is, who are not buying it primarily for portable use.

This amp has a sound that rivals larger wattage and far more expensive models, yet it is small enough to be truly portable, (and it does come with rechargable batteries). True, other models offer more distortion, but if that is what you are after, a little amp is not what you are want anyway. There are many practice amps put there, but I have never heard one with sound that comes close to this Both my Gisbon SG and Washburn J-6 sound great with this tiny amp. I tend to play blues and jazz, and after almost two years, this little amp still impresses me with the richness and fullness of it sound. If I did not know what it was, I would think I had plugged my guitars into a much larger and more powerful amp. I also like the simplicity of this unit. No long row of nobs to mess with means that you can plug in, adjust the volume, tone and squelch, and you are playing.

Bought this on recommendation from other reviewers. Gives you that classic harp sound and mikes up nice.

Can't imagine paying any more $$$ to get that classic blues sound.

I bought this for one specific purpose as I have two other combo amps. I often practice on my back deck where I don't have an electrical outlet in close proximity and even if I did I wouldn't want to drag a 60# box back and forth. In that context I'm not concerned about ultimate volume or even perfect tone control. It's pretty much about convenience and based upon my criteria this little amp is a winner. The positives are pretty clear; a single charge lasts for about 6 hours of playing time (Pignose claims 6 8 and I've found that to be pretty accurate) and the volume level is sufficient for practice or solo play, but isn't going to compete with a conventional amp regardless of power rating.

Unlike the original Pignose, the "20" has some rudimentary tone contouring controls that give you some options, but essentially it's a slightly warm clean amp that you can fuzz up a little. Buskers working inside will more than likely find it sufficient, but outdoors a noisy street corner might be a little more problematic. Regardless, the ability to pick up a little box and plug in wherever is tremendously liberating and makes a Strat/LP/335 as travel worthy as an acoustic guitar. I can move from blues to jazz without skipping a beat, but as a performance tool it's much more limited.

These are US designed but built and assembled in China. The overall construction quality looks robust, the controls don't feel cheap and it clearly looks like a product from the 60/70's; pretty cool with the brown grained vinyl covering. The only real downside to the amp is if you want to run it off AC you get some confusing instructions. Essentially you're only supposed to run the amp off the charged batteries (lots of multiple warnings about keeping the batteries charged up) and IF the batteries start to run down during a set you can plug in the charger and run the amp off the AC current, BUT WHEN FINISHED TURN OFF THE AMP AND LET IT RECHARGE. The problem is apparently the charging circuit doesn't allow the batteries to reach full charge and then dissipate excess juice when the amp is turned on. Not a problem for me, but might be if you're trying to use this as a full time playing amp.

For me it's 5 stars and well worth the $116 I paid for it. If the AC operation or the sonic limitations are a problem for your use you may want to consider other options.
