This is a fully-functional cable & iPod/iPhone remote, and it's nice that Shure's in-ear monitors now let you replace the cables, but the quality of the cable is definitely a step down from the stock cable that I got with my 535s. I'm not sure what kind of cables the 315 and 425 IEMS come with.
It's too bad you have to chose between inline iPod controls and a comfortable, durable cable. Perhaps at some point Shure will make a cable with the inline iPod controls and the same reinforced design as the stock cable.
PROS:
Inline controls and mic for iPhone & iPods. Enough said!
NEUTRAL:
The 3.5mm plug on the end of this is neither straight nor L shaped -it's 45 degrees. Not sure what to think of this; I've never seen a plug like it.
Controls & mic unit is unusually large. It's not a big deal and it's not heavy, but they're considerably bigger than the Apple iPhone headset controls, for example.
CONS:
Wire seems less durable than stock cables on the 535s (but definitely not pathetic)
No stiffer section to go over the ear like on stock cables -it's hard to get the IEMs to stay put with this cable
Expensive. This cable alone costs more than many entry-level earbuds that include iPod controls.

I bought the Shure SE215 headphones and the CBL-M+-K iPhone accessory together after 4 good years of service from the Shure SE210 with the Music Phone Adapter.
I thought that the 210's were excellent headphones providing awesome sound quality with great sound isolation which was extremely useful on the train for my daily commute into London.
Naturally the 215's are a worthy successor even though they are a little more fiddly to insert into the ear. However I found the CBL-M+-K accessory to be truly awful when I first used it. As the cable has to go over the ear there was nothing to hold it into position like on the supplied cable with the 215's. Also there was no plastic/rubber slider below the chin to hold them in place, so they would come away from behind my ear and stand out from the side of my face. This was very annoying and I was tempted to send them back.
I engaged with the Customer Services people at Shure asking them why there was nothing on this rather expensive accessory to give the same level of fit as the supplied cables. Their response was that this would only make the cables more expensive and that their products are designed for music professioanls and not for iPhone use. I informed them that this was a shame as the headphones are so good for the iPhone. I cannot even imagine how much better the 315's, 425's or the 535's must sound.
Anyway, after trawling the web for a couple of days I found a solution that I would like to share with you. What I wanted was a way to shape the cable behind my ear so that it stays in place, much like the supplied standard cables. Google the following and go to the ehow website:-
"How to Make Your Own Earbud Hook"
Instead of using the epoxy putty though I used black electrical insulator tape with the stretched out paper clip. A length of tape slightly longer than the paper clip wraps the cable and paper clip togather forming a cable that can be shaped more rigidly. So far it works really well and the beauty is that the tape will come off and I can re-apply if this is ever needed.
I hope this is a useful solution to other people out there. Please let me know.
The actual iPhone remote performs as expected so thumbs up there.

The cable feels flimsy compared to the one the earphones came with (though, it stays wrapped around my ears better even though it's missing the stiff parts behind the ears). Not awesome, but no big deal.
The microphone was a problem. I got complaints about how I sounded almost every time I made a phone call: There was too much background noise (if I used it outside), or I was muffled, or the other party heard strange sounds (which it turns out were the cable or the microphone bumping into me).
The controls work fine -no complaints there -but I switched back to the stock cable because of the microphone quality.

This has to be one of the worst made cables I have ever seen for $50, the cable split at the point that where it goes around the ear after only 4 months of use. I am not shocked when that happens to a $10 cable but for $50 I would expect a little more. Its to bad it does not have the quality of the cable the headphones ship with.
Update, sending back for repair again 4 months later. Unless you like sending in for warranty three times a year I would go find other headphones as this is the only remote cable option I can find for these shure headphones.
on my 2nd pair already in less than a year, not a heavy user.. and looking for an alternative.. cable is very weak and breaks.. not good.. sucks really!!
