I recently saw this thing for 25% off, and thought i'd give it a try. I wasn't sure what it would be like, but it is pretty fun. My favorite thing about the new stylophones is the MP3 jack, you can play your mp3s through the speaker and jam along, it's quite fun. I might have given it five stars, but after about ten minutes of playing the keyboard area was obviously scratched by the stylus. I'm betting the build quality is not as good as the original, but hey, it works and is very cheap to buy.If think you might like it, go for it. Even if it does break later on you barely spent any money on it and you had some fun.

This is something I bought for just because I needed a portable keyboard on the go. I have fallen in love with this piece of equipment. Not only was it cheap , but it can play in three octaves using a switch and it can bend pitch almost up an octave. It also works as a portable speaker (sadly its Mono). You can also use it with earphones or a Amplifier. Overall this stylophone synthesizer is loads of fun.

just got this in today, and i love it, it has that now antique synth sound, like out of a fellini movie, response is excellent considering the price, nice and loud, with three dif octaves and a pitch knob on the bottom, i love it, you cant get sounds from scary movie to church organ,and to beat all that, very very cool design, it looks like a anacronism embedded in the dashboard of a 57 chevy, or imagine a furturistic 350 style top panel on a fender tube amp, ok thats silly, but this things cool

The Stylophone is a fun instrument but its not a toy. Like any instrument, it can be used as a toy as a means of entertaining oneself or a child. However the more you know about music and especially electronic music, the more likely you will be able to coax music from the Stylophone. I am a musician and I love it's quirky transistor organ sound. In this day and age of everything being digital its nice to have such an affordable electronic analog instrument available, if even just for the novelty of it. By running the Stylophone through a few effects (think Korg Mini-KP) via the 1/8th inch output you can really start to tap into some amazing sounds. It definitely has a cheesy retro sound to it, but this is part of its charm. Arranging music is all about color, texture, and contrast and the Stylophone can sometimes add just the right amount of slightly nasty wheeze to a track to really make it stand out. If you don't believe me just ask David Bowie.

It might be easy to pass this mini-synth off as just a useless toy. Yes, it is plastic and yes, it is dirt cheap!

However, this is a reproduction of a classic instrument invented in the 1960s and has found it's place in many influential recording since it's release in 1967. Featuring all the original features of the original with an added audio through input and volume control, this little bit of Electronic Music Gadgetry is one cool stocking stuffer for the Electronic Musician.

Good product, haven't tried it on iPhone but great for iPad with garage band and the amplitude/fender apps are cool too. Honestly for $40 you should get at least a few pedals to go along with it and a few amps as well, but that's the only negative issue. You can get a good overdriven sound, interface is cool and easy to figure out. You have to use headphones for iPad unless you have an external speaker. If you've got a decent pair of headphones, sound is much better than with earbuds. Download garage band for $5 and you've got several hours of entertainment. Cool product, well worth the $$.. It's a good practice tool and has all of the recording gear, drum kit, metronome all at your finger tips

I Just received this yesterday and immediately tried to hook up my guitar to Garageband through my Mac (OS 10.6.7, GB11 V6.02). I spent a frustrating hour and a half trying to play my guitar through my computer and speakers and finally gave up. Part of the problem is that I am just getting to know the Garageband program. The lack of manufacturer documentation for using the UCG102 for use with Garageband is also surprising given it appears that Behring appears to be a major supplier to the music industry. Of course this amateur part of the biz is probably new to them. That said, after some fiddling I got it to work. I figured I would write the instructions that don't appear to exist. This is just if you are using a Mac and the latest version of Garageband, not sure if this will be helpful if you have another setup.

1) Start Garageband with the UCG102 unplugged.

2) Select new project and click on the electric guitar icon. A dialog box will pop up that will allow you to name and create a new project. When you click create you will see a image that has a guitar under the heading "Tracks" on the left side of the garage band window. On the right side there should be an image of a Guitar amp. Using the menu selection above the picture of the amp you can select different amps. Pick an amp.

3) Plug the UCG102 into your computer USB port. A few seconds later a dialog box will pop up that says "Garageband is scanning your system for audio devices, and has detected a device named "USB Audio Codec"." Select "Yes" you want to use the device.

4) Now this step is the one I originally missed. Go to Garageband Preferences and select "Audio/Midi". For "Audio Output" select whatever speakers you computer uses to provide audio (not doing this is where I originally messed up). Even if you were previously playing audio using Garageband you have to do this step. For Audio input select "USB Audio Codec" and close the preferences window.

5) Once you select the amp you want on the right hand side of the screen, double click on the amp image. You should see an image showing the back of the amp. Below it you will now see two pull down menus. The input source should will either be "Mono 1 (Audio CODEC)" or "Mono 2 (Audio CODEC)". Now go to the second menu called Monitor and select "ON". Also make sure you computer sound volume is on.

6) You should be good to go.

I have not had the problems other posters have had. The ASIO driver that comes with the ucg102 works well with the guitar combo filters. (yes the website does exist to get one of the guitar combos to unlock forever). If you have problems with the device first read this section of the readme file of the driver:

This being said I am able to get this device to work with Audacity(one of the programs that comes with the device) just by plugging into another USB port. Also I have used the ASIO4ALL driver which eliminates the need to unplug the devices when switch between Audacity and the guitar combo application.

Initially, I wasn't sure which PC-Guitar interface to get and I avoided these things for a few years until the companies started producing 64 bit drivers to allow users to run their products on Windows x64. For this device, I am running it through Guitar Rig 5 and Mixcraft with impressive results. I have absolutely NO crackling, noise or latency issues. I have an above average desktop computer with a motherboard sound card and Windows 7 x64.

If you install Behringer's 64 bit drivers and ASIO4All, configure everything properly, you shouldn't have any problems. For those who've had to run an audio chord from the unit's headphone jack directly to their speakers; this step is not required to get results. If you use ASIO4All and Behringer's USB driver together, you can select your audio output to go directly through your sound card after the signal's been processed through your recording software. This is why I purchased the device in the first place. Because I wanted to work with a digital signal within my recording and Guitar Rig software. The Behringer UCG102 allows you to do just that.

Here are some steps to get you going in the right direction. By the way, I went through some frustrating trial and error getting this device to work the way I wanted in Windows 7 x64. It would be nice if Behringer would update their manual and website to provide better setup instruction. This, in my opinion, is the only negative against the product.

Basic Windows 7 setup...

1. Download Behringer's Windows x64 driver from their web page...

2. Run the Behringer driver setup and when it asks you to reboot; Go ahead and do that.

3. Download and install the ASIO4All drivers from their web page...

4. If the Behringer UCG102 isn't plugged into to the USB port, do that now. If it's already plugged in, remove it and plug it back in again. This step ensures that the driver is properly loaded and the device is up and running in Windows.

5. Go to Windows 7 Control Panel or do a menu search for 'Sound' to configure your Windows Playback and Recording settings.

6. The Behringer still needs to be plugged in to configure these settings. In your Windows 'Sound' settings, make sure your 'Playback' device is set to your default speakers. If using headphones, set them as the "Default" Playback device.

7. Under the 'Recording' tab, select 'Line In' and if the Behringer USB driver is loaded and running properly, you should see an option to select "Behringer USB WDM Audio 2.8.40' as the Line-in device. The '2.8.40' is the driver version you downloaded from their web page and that number may change as drivers are updated.

8. Now you can start up your Guitar Rig or effects processor software. In Guitar Rig, you have to go into 'Audio and Midi Settings' and ensure that you are using 'Asio' as your driver and "Asio4All V2' as your device. Under the 'Routing' tab you have to make sure your 'Outputs' are set to either speakers or headphones. Under 'Inputs', make sure you have 'Behringer USB Audio 1' under just the 'L' or left channel only. The settings under the 'MIDI' tab don't affect this type of setup so there's nothing you need to do there.

*** Step 8 is where you will normally run into problems and to fix this, you have to configure your ASIO4All settings. In the far right corner of your Windows taskbar, you should see a green icon, which if clicked will bring up your ASIO4All configuration window. You can also select 'ASIO Config' in Guitar Rig within the 'Audio and Midi Settings' and get into the same window. To get everything working, you have to click on the wrench to open the ASIO configuration.

This is where you'll have to do some trial and error by clicking on the input and output device icons. What you're looking for is a green On/Off button with green arrows next to them for your input and output devices. For example, under my settings, I have the following ASIO devices showing green buttons and arrows...

Top selection = Output: 'High Definition Audio Device"

Bottom Selection = Input: 'Behringer USB WDM Audio 2.8.40' = (In: 2x 44.1-48kHz, 32 bits; Out: 2x 44.1-48kHz, 32 bits)

A blacked out On/Off button icon with no green arrow, or a red 'X' next to these settings means something's wrong or you haven't clicked on the On/Off button icon so that device is actually turned on.

Click on the wrench to exit out of the ASIO configuration.

If you're not getting all the selection options in the ASIO or audio/midi configuration settings, try the following...

1. Close Guitar Rig and other recording software

2. Unplug the Behringer UCG102 and plug it back in again

3. Repeat steps 6, 7 and 8 and also check your Windows 'Sound' Playback and Recording settings to make sure they haven't changed

If your using recording software like Mixcraft, you also have to use the ASIO device drivers within that software in order to record your guitar. By the way, I am able to run Guitar Rig's VST and real-time record with all Guitar Rig's effects within Mixcraft and achieve impressive results. Latency is not an issue because I'm using the ASIO drivers in combination with Behringer's USB driver. If you're having troubles, don't give up and keep at it. You'll be happy with the results and there's nothing like being able to record in real-time while using awesome guitar effects. I love it!

This thing works, but the devil is in the software (I am writing from a PC). While a number of different programs are included with this product none of them make it simple to record. The amp modeling software is compatible and recognizes the hardware, but isn't suitable for recording. Audacity isn't compatible out of the box and neither is the EnergyXT2. This drove me absolutely crazy. For a couple of weeks the only thing I could do was practice through headphones (which works very well). Plain and simple I bought this to record.

I am sure there are costly software solutions out there that can recognize the USB/ASIO drivers and record via this interface but I didn't want to pay for something I thought I should get out of the box. Fortunately, after much turmoil I discovered that for the computer savvy individual there is a way. Audacity can be built to include native ASIO support! However this requires compiling your own custom (and non-distributable) build. The excellent step by step directions to do so are here:

Once I got Audacity to recognize the USB/ASIO drivers I was much happier with the purchase. I still give the product 3-stars because I assume the average consumer won't want to go through the pain of custom building software to get a recording ability. To me, a out of the box recording is a basic requirement of a "Guitar-to-USB Interface".

I intend on doing a longer review after I've used them a little more, but I wanted to say a few things now:

I have a lot of trouble with in-ear headphones, usually they don't stay in, hurt, or both. I think I must have small ear canals or something... Anyway, the smallest round tips were the only ones that fit properly, and while they definitely quiet outside noise, they don't block it out completely. (I suspect that the flange-y ones might, but I couldn't get them to stay put long enough to compare.) This was ideal for me, as I wanted to be able to wear them while running/walking outside, and still be able to hear cars and such. The round tips I was using stayed in place while running without a problem. If you have issues with the cord jostling around you might want to look for a way to affix it to your shirt, as these do not come with a clip. (I have heard that this is a major problem if you have in-ear headphones that actually seal perfectly.)

And they're beautiful and green and I love them :D

Just received it and charged it. Charging went really fast I am assuming it was shipped nearly charged. Tried to Pair with my iPad would not work. So, I tried with my iPhone success! But, the minute I tried to leave the music app and do something else it disconnected and lost the link. This does not seem to me to be user friendly, I do not see how anyone could accept this method of operation. So, I am hoping this one is defective and have requested to return it. I ordered two this one came from the seller 1ON1 and the other is supposed to be coming from Amazon. I will update this if there is any change to my opinion of the headset once I have another to try.

UPDATE Just got the second headset I ordered. Still a very fast charge. This time the headset linked with my iPhone without a problem. I can answer the phone and it goes back to my music. I can leave the music program and read/send email without interrupting the music. Sound is so-so but very acceptable. On the phone I sound "muffled" to the person I am talking. It does a lot of "skipping" at a distance (over 15 feet) but it still does some skipping even when sitting at the desk next to the phone. For the price acceptable. The first one is obviously defective but the seller (1ON1) never contacted me after my initial complaint (several days ago).

UPDATE 2 Had a chance to use them for my morning workout not a great experience. First, the headset will not stay put during exercises which involve head movement (Toe touches, sit-ups); second I only do an hour walk on the treadmill at a moderate pace (3 miles/hour) but this does cause moderate sweating the phones get very wet. I can only imagine what would happen if I really worked up a sweat. So, they are terrific for around the office or house or out-and-about but I would not recommend using them for any work-outs.

Overall, these headphones are great for the price you pay.

Ease of Use-

Setup with these headphones was a breeze. I was able to pair them to my laptop and my cellphone without the directions. The included directions are very helpful if you are new to bluetooth devices and are unsure how to pair components. I read through all of the directions and they are definitely clear and concise about all the features and do a good job explaining the operation of them.

Feel-

The feel of these is the biggest drawback. I do not find these to be that comfortable. They don't seem to squeeze my head real tight, which is good unless I am exercising or just moving my head. I had to extend the headphones to get them to fit properly, on each side you can pull the ear part to make it slide out further. What these need is a way for the ear pieces to swivel or pivot to ensure a tighter fit on the head. Several times when I would lean forward (so that my face was parallel to the ground) the headphones would slip off or slide around out of position. It should be noted that I have an average sized head. I can wear these for about an hour and a half before they get uncomfortable and I must remove them to give my head a break.

Audio-

The audio coming from the speakers sounds good to me. I am not an audiophile, but I can still tell when things just don't sound good. These aren't the greatest audio quality, but they definitely sound good for the $25. I had great reception on these headphones even through multiple walls and more than thirty feet away, no static at all. They are plenty loud enough for me, and they don't have a whole lot of noise pollution. The mic quality is average. I don't think that most people buy these to make phone calls and I certainly don't plan to ever talk on the phone with them.

Battery-

I don't know the exact battery life, but I have gotten several hours from them without charging. My experience is that charging takes around two hours. The headphones arrived with a slight charge and after about an hour they were fully charged.

Quality-

When wearing these headphones, I can hear everything that is said around me. I realize that these are not noise cancelling, but they don't block out any sound at all. There are buttons on the side for adjusting things like volume, all of my buttons feel good but one. The back button, just doesn't feel right. It works just fine but it doesn't click like the other buttons making it hard to tell that it has been pressed. When I received mine, they were slightly dirty on the top.

If you are looking for a pair of inexpensive bluetooth headphones, then I would certainly recommend that you check these out.

These are the standard headphone in many European studios and broadcasters. The BBC uses little else. I've been using them personally for over 20 years. They sound pretty good for the money ($149 from J&R), although they are a working tool rather than high-end hi-fi. They are completely closed (to avoid mic feedback at high volume) and although quite heavey are very comfortable to wear for long periods.

I'm the type who likes to hear every detail in the music. When listening to an old analog track from the 70s I actually think it's cool to hear the increasing "hiss" as each instrument is punched in as the song builds. Or to hear the singer(s) take a breath just before committing their lines. Both the Sennheiser HD-280 Pro(which I have owned since 2007) and Shure's newer SRH-440 enable me to do that very well, and at *reasonable* not too loud volumes.

I looked up both headphones at headphone . com. The graphs of their freq response correspond well with how they actually sound to my ears, hence the title to this review. Both phones are very close in performance in the lows to mids, and in the high frequencies. I have next to no sensitivity above 12kHz, so I cannot comment on either in that respect.

Where they differ, and you will see this at the website I referenced, is in their handling of deep(below 80Hz) bass and of the high-midrange section (3-4kHz). The Sennheiser does NOT lack for bottom! It's not boomy just *there*. The Shure needs a little nudge of the LF EQ band to match the Senneheiser, but where it out"shines" the Sennie is in that high area just where midrange becomes treble. It isn't glaringly bright there, but you can definitely hear more breathing and sibilance through the Shure. The Sennheisers are good for overall listening, but if you are a techno or house/club music junkie or modern rock affecionado you will fall in love with the bass bottom of these. The Shures have most of the spectrum covered, but will specifically satisfy classical listeners with their interpretation of strings and other high-freq instruments, as well as jazz and most rock sub-genres.

All in all, they are a draw as far as sound quality goes.

Construction/Comfort wise, both are decently built. Nothing plasticky cheap about either, although the Sennheiser is slightly heavier. The HD280 has that "vise-grip" on your head something which I just accepted as being part & parcel with classic German quality. It doesn't bother me and has actually loosened slightly in the 3 years I've owned them. The Shure not nearly as tight. In fact, when leaning my head up to see my monitor or down to see what the cat is throwing up(!) the headband slips down over my forehead or back. If the Sennies were tight these are loose! No amount of adjustment helps, unless one has a much larger head than I.

Still, they isolate sound almost as well as the Sennheisers, and sound just as good, in their own way. I recommend either and find it a good idea to have two decent cans around to listen to and monitor my music. There is also a body of thought out there that both speakers and headphones should be "broken or burned" in. Nothing wrong with that, so long as bass/treble controls are kept flat and no EQ is employed. Play a variety of your favorite CDs through the headphone at the loudest volume you'd COMFORTABLY listen to for AT LEAST 10-12 hours, and let them play over night in the corner. ++On that note a good-old-fashioned CD carousel or 6disc magazine is a great asset++ Burning in can't hurt, as long as the phones or speakers aren't blasting to the point of distortion. The Shure SRH440 is the best set of over ear monitors I've ever heard for critical listening in the price range. I don't think you can buy a better set of non-noise canceling cans for around $100. I think many headphones that cost $200 or less fall short of the sound quality. The build quality is sturdy, and I can tell I will have these headphones for a lifetime. Even not extended, they hug my very average sized head just right, and there's plenty of slack for people with bigger heads. And they are comfertable for hours at a time, and the pads are soft pleather but, not the cheap stuff. Plus they are replaceable.

They keep a fairly decent amount of sound out, if they were a little more snug they would keep more out, but even so walking down the street you have to try to get distracted by cars going by. If you're from or have ever been on the T in Boston, you know how loud it is. With these things on my head, I can still hear the very muted grinding of the rails, but its hard to care when even on the quietest volume setting on my 80GB ipod classic the music is not only still very audible, it's clear as day.

The highs, mids, and lows are completley balanced like a flat equalizer setting, unbiased on there own and not effecting each others presence. I wouldn't recommend them if you're a bass junkie, because the base is very smooth and even for both electronic music or a big jazzy double bass. Whether on the lowest or highest volume on any device I've used it with, everything is extremely clear and life-like. All genres of music and talk. Listening to rock you can relearn what distortion is supposed to be, listening to classical you can hear the sweat on the soloist fingers as they slide around the strings, listening to stand up has that scratchy, sweaty pickup of a comedy club mono channel microphone.

I bought these for an everything, every day user after enjoying the Shure SE210 in ear monitors for two years. I took a chance because I didnt know a lot about these phones, just that shure had not yet let me down. I must say, I am a customer for life.

I cant even begin to imagine what the SRH840's sound like, but I'm guessing for $200 they blow everything $350 and under out of the water.

In running a professional studio finding the right headphones has always been a problem. They need to be durable, true sounding and isolating. We always used the AKG 141's and 240's but they are not very robust and need lots of TLC to keep running. They sound great but are open backed so the isolation is not optimal. But now a new pair of 141's are close to $150.The Beyer Dt 770 are better isolating, though they sound a bit "canny" not very natural in the vocal range. But they are $199 a pair.The Audio Technica ATH 50's sound great but are also in the $200 range

Enter Shure, the makers of the revered 57 microphone. The SRH 440 Headphones sound excellent,isolate well,are rugged and best of all I found them for $80 on Amazon. Now when they get thrown across the room I don't worry.

The only thing I don't like about them is the coil cord they come with. Straight cables are much more practical for studio use. But the cables are detachable.

We've been using them for a few weeks now and they are liked by me and the professional singers we work with.

Ok I heard a lot of good things about these online and decided that I wanted some headphones for home use so I decided to get these.

At first use, the sounds are very decent with excellent mid range sounds. This is not a headphone for people that like the sound of bass that rattles a car's trunk. These are for those that want to hear every detail in a song...even the minute ones. It offers good bass, but just not to an extreme some people would like.

I had an issue though it seems to have gone away. I would have one side of the headset go out but slowly. The music would cut, then vocals. I checked to see if it was properly connected and twisted and it was. The issue seems to have resolved itself though its a bit unsettling once you've just received the headset.

Whats cool is that these headphones fold in so they are easier to transport if you do have to take them somewhere.

Personally, and if you have an ear with a protruding antihelix such as myself, these headphones (and probably many others) will hurt if you wear them for 30+ minutes. There is nothing but a very thin material between your ear and the plastic base over the speaker. This will push the ear creating discomfort.

Its a great headphone, but comfort is lacking (for me) and im concerned about the reliability of this pair...back to my music...

*update 6/14/11* having problems yet again with the left (cord side) speaker/cable problem. For some reason the speaker kicks in an out. Sometimes when I unplug it and plug it back in, it works...sometimes it doesnt fix the problem. I will probably have to contact the vendor.

update and probably last. contact attempts failed with shure as they have been unresponsive to the last 2 emails i sent out. Feb 27 and March 8 were the last dates of the emails. Issue unresolved. Minus star for customer service.

The SRH440 was my first venture into professional studio monitors. I have heard the sound quality on the Sennheiser HD555 , HD280 Pro, Beats Solo and Grado Labs' SR60i. The Beats have the best bass of the ones I heard but were atrocious for the mids and highs. The Grado's and Sennheisers are a little bit better than the SRH-440s accross the board but they are open design, which usually have a slightly better sound stage and reproduction of sound. The HD280 wasn't nearly as good in my opinion, but some people claim that the 280 Pro have better mids and highs.

Now with all that said you guys might wonder why I gave this pair a 5 star rating. Well simply put, this is the best closed, circumaural pair you can buy under $100. The sound quality is absolutely stunning. Make sure to burn them in for at least 100 hours and you will see a sharp rise in sound quality. I needed a pair that was good for indoor and outdoor use. It had to be closed, minimal leakage of sound, with a decent length detachable cable, no 10 foot cable like that of the 555. This pair does the job for me and its affordable enough that they are a great first step into the world of audiophiles. Again, its a great pair for casual listeners who want EXCELLENT build quality (these are heavy and very well built). I would highly recommend this product to broke audiophile wannabes (like me!) or casual listeners who want a solid pair of headphones with very good sound quality.
