I tried some tests to see if there was any change in the sound output in my headphones when using the extension. I want to say there is a very slight change in the sound (ever so slightly muffled), but if it does exist it's not definitively recognizable; I'd have to run a blind experiment to know for sure.

The connections it makes on both ends are firm connections; there was no wiggle experienced with anything I've used it with so far. In fact, the female end seems to really snap in tightly with headphone jacks, which is great because it won't just slip out with a small accidental yank on the cord.

The only thing to note is that the cable I received is 5ft long, not 6ft, so keep that in mind should you require precise measurements (I did). I contacted the seller about this and they responded quickly (they said they made a mistake in labeling the product page) and were able to refund my order the same day.

Even with the error, they were prompt and courteous so I would do business with them again!

When I first got this cable, I was convinced it was garbage. Horrible feedback or almost no sound, constantly twisting and adjusting.

Whoops, I didn't have the female end seated all the way on the male end of my speakers. You really have to press hard til it clicks into place. Then it works perfectly. Now I can swap from headphones to speakers without having to crawl around behind my PC.

I recently built a new desktop computer and needed one for my earphone. The hole at the female end is tight, which is great, because earlier I had some too-loose-to-plug-in experience with other Stereo extension cable. Getting this one made me quite happy. It works great! Later I placed another order of 2 for my parents too.

The 3.5 mm male-to-female extension cable works as expected. I had a sucky steroe system whose cable was just 1 feet and wanted to connect it to my source which was at 3 feet distance. I looked up this product on Amazon & purchased it. The order was delivered on-time & I started using it the same evening. It works as advertised. I don't notice any significant change in the sounds the quality has remained the same.

.

Now, remember, I don't have a Bose or any such high-value sound system just something off the rack at Sears.

I work in a performing arts center where we use 24 wireless microphone systems primarily for theatrical productions by high school, middle school and community theatre groups. I expect to mic actors for 38 rehearsals and 54 performances this year. Although we have $300 microphones for " talking heads" applications, there's no way I'm risking a $300 AT or Countryman earset mic on a student. Quite a few mics fail with various kinds of damage over the course of a year, so I am always on the lookout for an unobtrusive and inexpensive mic. I'm hoping I've found one in the Pyle-Pro PMHMS20 Wired Headset Boom Mini XLR Omni-Directional Microphone.

I initially purchased two of the Pyle PMHMS20 headset models and have since purchased another along with the Pyle-Pro PMEMS10 In Ear Mini XLR Omni-Directional Microphone (For Shure System) "earset" style mic. These "mini XLR" models are terminated with a TA4F connector required by Shure wireless belt pack transmitters. They also fit the Line 6 XD-V70L wireless belt packs.

So far, I've only used the first two headsets in a community theatre production of three rehearsals and four performances. They performed better than expected and sound quality was excellent. They sound better than the MM Audio MM-PSM earset and at least as good, if not better, than a well-placed Shure WL-93. They are not a sonic match for the Audio Technica Microset Omni Condenser Headworn Microphone in Beige or Countryman E6, but they currently cost roughly 1/15th of the AT price listed on Amazon. I didn't measure the cable length, but it is adequate to reach just beyond waist level for typical adults. It will take some time to determine long-term durability, so I'll update this review after I've had time for evaluation.

These headsets offer some size adjustment, but I don't believe they can be adequately adjusted for children. Even when adjusted to the smallest size, they were still a bit loose on a petite actress and had to be secured with a small strip of medical tape. The boom is very long, so a fair amount of bending may be required for smaller faces. Even with the mic element right at the corner of the mouth, I did not pick up pops or breath sounds. They do come with two foam wind screens, if needed.

The most recent PMHMS20 headset I ordered arrived last week. When I opened the Amazon box, I immediately noticed I received the PMHM2 model with a 3.5mm plug, rather than the TA4F "mini XLR". I checked the packing slip to see that I had in fact ordered the "mini' XLR" version. I then checked the headset packaging, which was incorrectly labeled as the PMHMS20, but contained the PMHM2 version with a 3.5mm connector. I don't consider Amazon to be at fault, since the problem obviously originated with the manufacturer. I don't expect to have any trouble with Amazon exchanging this for the correct model.

One other note; the product package (not Amazon) states that the mic is available in both beige and black. Unable to find a black model on Amazon or anywhere else, I called Pyle Pro. They confirmed that the package was mislabeled and no black model is available.

-----------------------------------------------------

June 2012 Update I've just ordered seven more of these mics when I found the price had dropped closer to what I originally paid.

I continue to be pleased with the sound quality and have been surprised at how well they've held up. So far, I've used them 30-40 times on seven theatrical productions and a half-dozen "talking heads" programs. Most of the plays were musicals, including a dance-heavy production of "Hairspray". I broke the wiring inside one of the earset versions attempting to re-sculpt it for a better fit, but I've only had two minor problems with the headset version reviewed here, and those don't affect function. The clear plastic sheath covering the metal earpiece got stretched out on one mic and the end cap covering the tip of the earpiece was lost from another; again, nothing that harms function. I've had no problems with cables breaking or connector issues (on this headset version).

Continued use has proven that these work best on large heads. No amount of adjustment will provide a stable fit on a petite actress or child.

I've only had one instance where I had to use a foam windscreen to tame pops.

I still wish these were also available in black and/or brown for African-American skin tones.

-----------------------------------------------------

March 2013 Update I now have 24 of these and am in the middle of another season of high school & community theatre musicals. Since my last update, these have been used in about 72 rehearsals or performances and I'll have another 25 rehearsals/performances between now & the end of April. To date, I've had three Pyle-Pro PMHMS20 Wired Headset Boom Mini XLR Omni-Directional Microphone "break" & all three have the same cable issue. The cable has a clip that attaches it to the back of the headband very near where the cable enters the headband structure. The band slides to lengthen or shorten the boom and fit head size. The problem occurs because the cable clip does not slide on its own during adjustment & that leads to pinching and excessive stress on the cable between the clip and entrance to the headband (I'll post a photo). The result is an audible "thump" as the internal wiring makes or breaks contact, along with momentary loss of audio. It usually happens as the actor turns his head or the mic cable gets a tug. It is not something I would consider end-user repairable. It can be avoided by always taking care to adjust the clip as you adjust the headband, but that often doesn't happen during the chaos preceding a production, especially if you have a large cast and even more especially if they are responsible to placing and adjusting the mic themselves.

Given the use and abuse they endure versus the cost, I absolutely consider this problem and the number of mics I've lost due to it, perfectly within acceptable limits. Most of these productions involve the mic being on someone's head for four to five hours from beginning to end, so I'm talking about several hundred hours of total use for some of these mics, just in the last year. If you are buying a couple for the pastor to use a couple of hours a week and you take care to adjust the cable clip, you should get plenty of use before replacement is necessary.

Pyle offers a one-year warranty that covers the usual "manufacturers defects". I've not looked into it, but plan to see if this problem might be covered. I''ll post the outcome when I get an answer.

I am still very happy with the audio quality for speech and singing. I do minor EQ on them, but I generally EQ most other mics I use too; probably more a factor of room acoustics or speakers than the microphones.

I will comment on pricing. The price of this mic varies as much as the stock market. I've watched it range from just over $11 to nearly $29 in the last year. Compared to similar mics, it is a great value at even the high price range. If you think it's too much, check back often, because it will fluctuate. All my stock was purchased when prices ranged between $14 & $19 (and with free Prime two-day shipping), so I'm thrilled to get this type product for this price.

I'll be back with another update at the end of April.

I didn't want to spend $170 (or more) for the "better" head-worn microphones, but I figured I could spend $14.99 (sale price) to see if the mic was any good. Although the photo shows two different mics, this is the one that goes over both ears and the cord plugs into your belt pack transmitter. We've had this mic for about six months. Our church pastor uses it and the sound is just as good as our Shure lavalier mic was. Also, the volume is more consistent, since the mic pick-up moves as the pastor moves his head. On the lavalier mic, as the pastor moved his head, he was changing the angle towards the mic, so the volume kept changing. We LIKE this mic! They work great and we can buy SEVEN of these mics for the price of just one of the more expensive ones! Some of our other local churches tried our mic; they liked using it so much that they bought this mic, too! I don't know how good it is for singing or for a band but, for church (and speaking), it's perfect!

Update: 2012-12-21

Our first one of these mics just died after one of our pastors bent the wire too far. However, this mic worked perfectly for over one full year. Pretty good stamina for weekly use and only costing $15! Our pastors preach at six other churches so, when I ordered TWO of these headset mics for our church (one replacement & one spare), they had me order TWO more mics for one of the other churches that has the same Shure system that we do. By the way, one of our pastors has nicknamed this our 'Madonna' mic (after the singer, Madonna). Even after our first mic died, I STILL highly recommend these headset mics. How can you beat a year's-worth of service, with NO problems, for only $15!

I purchased this thinking well if it doesn't work well I haven't put out much money. The church had just bought me one from another place and spent 200 on it, so I spent my own money on this one. This is the only one I use at all! The more expensive one sits on a shelf in my office and this one gets used weekly. I just purchased another one for a friend of mine. These are great products and I haven't found a better price.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Full disclosure: I generally dislike most earbuds. They're often fragile (with connections that break, sometimes with relatively new earbuds even), they get tangled ultra-easily, I find them uncomfortable, and the fidelity they provide is often lacking.

That said, this pair of Belkin earbuds is definitely above average especially given the moderate price. The only thing I can't say, since they're new, is how long they'll last (and how much average handling they can sustain without the connections breaking). But in terms of comfort, that was the first plus I noticed upon initially using them. There are extra silicone tips for the ear buds different sizes in order for the user to achieve a better fit. The stock tips that were already attached worked best for me and these are among the most comfortable earbuds I've ever used. I usually experience irritation/discomfort with prolonged earbud usage but not so with these.

They're great for plugging into the cell phone, leaving one bud in, and speaking on the built-in microphone. I've had zero problems hearing calls or with callers hearing me via the mic. I happen to not have bluetooth and was accustomed to just putting the phone on speaker when driving in order for it to be 'hands free.' This solves all the fidelity problems associated with that. The mic is attached under the left bud, so that's the preferable one to have in while driving.

Music sounds surprisingly strong through these as well. I was very pleasantly surprised to hear a relatively full range through these, including a decent low end (often the Achilles heel of ear buds). I couldn't care less about the color, I happen to snag the blue ones but it's not something I gave any thought to. The only thing I am indifferent (or maybe slightly negative) about is the multi-function remote. I can use it to active the mute on my phone... Otherwise it's kind of puzzling (for me, anyway) what this button on the mic is supposed to be for. There's no instructions with this either. Oh well, I just ignore that part of it.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I have purchased many ear buds over the past few years. My biggest disappointment has been amplification. The Belkin Buds did not disappoint. I do not need to turn the volume up to hear. And the built in microphone is a big plus for phone calls or SKYPE. Those on the receiving end find the sound quality excellent. All will find the multi-function remote providing hands-free use to be of great value.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program These are very fine earbuds. I am fairly tough on my earbuds, pulling them and other things so most don't work for me for very long. In this case, I have been heavily using these earbuds in my normal rough way--walking, gym, sauna, etc.--for more than two weeks and I have had no problems whatsoever. The microphone is good, so is the quality of the sound. I'm not a high-end music listener so I cannot speak to that issue, but for podcasts--my normal listening experience--these are excellent. The color is a bit unnerving at first and takes some getting used to, but they kind of grow on you. Overall, these are quite fine. I reserve the five-star rating for items that I really am overwhelmed by, but my four-star rating means that I like these very much and would buy them again once these wear out.

Read Best Reviews of Belkin MiXiT PureAV Earbuds / Headphones with Built-in Microphone (Pink) Here

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I generally prefer the earbuds that sit in your ears rather than have the little cushy thing that makes them stay there. Because, and these Belkin headphones are no exception, none of the included sizes fits quite right, and if I'm walking, even gently, these tend to fall out. But everyone's ears are different, so I can't say these are bad because of that.

What is bad about them, however, is if you plan on using them mostly for music. They don't have a very full range it sounds like these are mainly designed for highs, such as voices, perhaps audio books, phone calls, etc. For about half price, I prefer Sony MDRE9LP/BLK Ear Buds strictly for sound quality. (There's no microphone on the Sony set.) And "sound quality" is a used a bit loosely here, as spending 10 or 20 bucks isn't going to give you much of a sound experience. Alas, between these Belkin's and the cheapest ones Sony sells, Sony wins.

Overall, I'd recommend these if their primary use isn't going to be listening to music. If that's the case, try a different brand that gives a better ranges of highs and lows.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program We were just looking for some small ear buds to have around the house so everyone could plug into their own sound. These have good sound and once we found the right size that fits our ears they were more comfortable. I was pleased with the speed of deliver of this product and its overall performance and construction. I have been using the headsets once a week to assist the dance instructors in one of the programs that I participate at as a volunteer. The sound quality is quite good, clear, loud and the range more than ample for a dance floor with over thirty people in a space roughly 40'x40'. I would give this product a better rating ... however, the last two dance sessions, I have noticed that one of the headsets is experiencing some drop-out. I checked the batteries and even replaced them with new ones but the problem is still there albeit less so. Don't know what may be the cause, whether the product has a defect or could it be due to something else, like rf interference or even placement of the receiver. Both headsets functioned quite well initially so I've got my fingers crossed that the problem is not with the equipment.

Purchased this item for use in small group presentations and during initial use it appears to work just fine. Reception is strong and the sound quality is good. The head bands area a little tight and uncomfortable, so we clip the mics on as lavalier mics and they work great. This unit is extremely inexpensive and I was very hesitant to purchase assuming that the low cost also meant low quality. That doesn't seem to be the case. Worth the money.

Looked around for a wireless system that would work without the drop-outs...and didn't cost $200.00. This one was the best of both worlds! Comes with 2 wireless mics (head mount & lapel clip for each). Description didn't talk about the lapel clips, but that was a bonus. I teach and on days I wear ties I use the lapel and on days I wear polos I use the head bracket! They have worked great and no student can say they can't hear me! Best part is at the end of the day I still have a voice for my family.

One of the best, at least for me, Recording Interface. If his little brother, the Avid Fast Track C400 is great! Just imagine what you can do with this one, the Fast Track C600. Includes Individual DSP for separate headphones. If your singer wants some reverb while she/he is singing, you can go ahead and do so, without affecting the original dry recording. It's just a little trick you can do to make singers inspire themselves, without affecting the original recording/s. It includes Pro-Tools SE software right from the package. So if you don't have any software, then you can start recording after installing it. But this FastTrack C600 is compatible with just about any recording softwares. Adobe Audition, Audacity, Ableton Live 8, Logic Pro 9, Digital Performer, etc. Another big plus are, the "Multi" (task) programmable and customizable button. You can program I think like 7 tasks, in the order you might need it, that's a big plus. Also, you can listen to your main mix thru 3 different outputs. So you can put a regular, near-field monitors and even a small multimedia speakers, so you can check if your mix sounds great on all 3 speaker monitors. There's 2 separate headphone outputs. It even has a direct guitar or bass guitar inputs on your front left side. And a whole lots more features that you should read, that will make your recording life easier!

For me this has been the perfect Audio Recording Interface. Even on the go, I can take this with me. Don't think about buying this baby, just buy it, you won't regret it!!!
