I am a headphone addict, owning numerous high-quality headphones, such as the Technics RP-DH1200 and RP-DJ1200A, Shure in-ear buds with custom ear canal molds, the Sony MDR-V700DJ, numerous Sennheiser products (including the vaunted HD 650), and many more. I am constantly looking for the best sound quality/comfort combination out there. Do I have a problem...indeed. But hopefully, via my trial and error, I can help ease your decision, and ease the burden on your wallet.

Why buy this product?

1) Fantastic Sound QualityOut of what I own and/or have tried, only my Sennheiser HD-650's beat it, and that's only in the mid-range. By the way, the HD-650's have such a high input impedance that you need an external amp to get decent sound out of them, unlike the Ultrasone's, which work fine, unaided, with my iPods.

2) ComfortSecond only to the HD-650's.

3) The PriceIs $235.00 expensive for headphones...well, at least it's not cheap. But I have dropped a lot more for headphones whose sound quality pales in comparison.

4) What comes in the boxReplacement ear-cups, extra cord with mono/stereo switch, and test cd.

I have little space left, so I'll conclude with this; enjoy the sonic delight. And, no, I do not work for Ultrasone.

Here is a mini review of the Ultrasone DJ1 PRO's.

I've had these for just over 2 weeks and I use them mostly for DJing, but they are so comfortable and sound so good that I use them for just sitting back and listening to music.

PROS:

The ear cups have very nice flex to them that make it perfect to hold with your shoulder or one hand while mixing in a track.

The case, adaptor, extra cord and extra ear pads make it a good package.

Sound quailty on these are amazing. Even comes with a CD to show off just how good they sound.

These are the most comfortable pair of headphones I've ever had on. They fit perfectly over my ears and I could wear them for hours with no problems.

They are also a great looking pair of headphones. Nice to show off.

Very nice build quailty. These don't feel fragile or weak in anyway.

CONS:

The only major problem I have with the headphones is that they don't have very good isolation. My Bose triport headphones have much better isolation and at half the price.

One other thing is that these headphones are huge. I don't mind the size myself, but some people might.

For the price I would have expected better isolation, but the sound quality makes up for it. Overall I'm happy with the purchase and recommend them to anyone looking for a great high quailty headphones.

After using these for about 10 months I decided to give a review.

Right off the bat, aesthetically, these are some of the best looking headphones and part of the reason I got them. In addition to this, they they are pretty big. To put things in perspective, draw a circle on a piece of paper with a diameter of roughly 4 inches. That's roughly the size of the cans.

-First off, sound quality-

As always, people prefer different sound signatures, so take these opinions with a grain of salt.

Sound quality wise, these headphones are incredibly cost efficient for the quality of sound they produce. Highs are slightly recessed (not an issue at all, just a little be less pronounced compared to the Sennheiser 555) but mids and lows are very pronounced. I had expected the bass to be a lot louder and boomy however the bass is actually very controlled and well balanced (compared to Sony XB700). I initially felt the bass was lacking (as I am a bass head) however over time the sound signature of the DJ1 PRO won me over and actually caused me to prefer controlled bass instead of overwhelming bass.

You can also tell these headphones were very specifically engineered when you take off the ear cushions. The drivers aren't completely exposed like most headphones. The driver is actually covered by metal with a pattern of holes that create a distinct pathway for the sound to flow through. The holes only expose certain regions which creates its unique sound signature. This is probably their S-Logic in the works. As a result if you wear these headphones in any orientation besides perfectly straight over your head (ex: backwards, behind your neck, cushions not perfectly around your ears, etc.), they will actually sound very different.

-Build Quality-

These are very solid headphones. Generally I'm not very good at taking care of my things, however, nearly a year from using these headphones, I still haven't managed to do any damage at all to these things. The paint is mint condition and show absolutely no signs of wear. The headband despite being plastic has not shown any cracking at all (it actually feels a lot sturdier than the headband on the Sennheiser 555). Padding on cushions and headphone are still in perfect condition.

-Convenience-

This is where I feel the Ultrasones fall short. These headphones are incredibly uncomfortable to wear around your neck. As a result I've always either kept them on my head or left them on the table. In addition, in my case, the 3.5mm wire was too short.

I use these headphones for both the computer and on the go with my phone attached to the FIIO E11. For the usage of these headphones with a portable setup, the 3.5mm is too short. I'm a short person 5'5'', yet when walking, these headphones are on the verge of pulling out my phone (it will literally pull it out if I tilt my head to the right).

For computer usage, the 3.5mm cable is also too short unless you have laptop, a desktop with a front panel audio port on the top of the case, or some sort of hub that extends the 3.5mm port towards you.

The 1/4' cable is substantially longer and coiled, however Ultrasone unfortunately did not provide a 1/4' to 3.5mm adapter to go along with it. As a result, those who need a longer cable will have to either buy a 1/4' to 3.5mm adapter (which can be quite a gamble as numerous ones I've tried from Amazon do not provide a secure connection or only provide a mono signal despite being advertised as stereo) or a female to male 3.5mm cable. I ended up using the 1/4' to 3.5mm adapter that came with my Sennheiser 555 (which was actually quite dissapointing considering that the Ultrasones were ~$140 while the 555 were only $85 on Amazon when I got them)

-Value-

Personally this is the main reason why I gave it 5 stars. I've been incredibly satisfied with the sound quality--to the point where I feel absolutely no necessity to jump into higher end headphones $250+ (I was considering going for some AKG's) Not only is the sound quality very good, the build quality is great as well. The headphones also come with two extra ear pads, a carrying case, a CD with some music/sound clips from Ultrasone, 1/4' ~long cable, 3.5mm short cable. The only problem I have with the product is that it should have included with a 1/4' to 3.5mm adapter or at least made the 3.5mm cable longer. Overall I would highly recommend these headphones to those who want a step up from low end headphones.

I received these headphones three days ago and since then I have been listening to them almost constantly.

Firstly I'll talk about the sound quality. Ultrasone have a reputation for providing good amounts of bass with their headphones and this particular pair don't disappoint. However, if you are looking for overpowering, booming bass then these cans aren't for you. The bass is all their, with good extension, but doesn't overwhelm the rest of the music.

The mids, are quite good in my opinion. The one thing I've noticed with this headphone is that the vocals are incredibly clear compared to anything else I've listened to before. I can actually clearly hear the lyrics to songs, where before the vocals would be blurred with the rest of the music making it indistinct. Also, I can clearly hear when artists layer vocals, it is almost like I can hear them singing in a centre channel, and then off to the left right channels and slightly behind. It's really enjoyable going back through old music and picking up new details I hadn't heard before.

Finally, the highs, I think the highs are slightly recessed, to be honest, but I think this is partly because I am coming from listening to my stereo that had incredibly bright, horn tweeters. I had to turn down the higher frequencies on my amp as the speakers made some music sound incredibly harsh. In comparison, this headphone seems to lack the detail in the highs that my stereo does, however, it also lacks the harshness and over-emphasis. So I guess it will come down to individual taste, and what you want from your headphones. On the plus side, it does mean that these headphones aren't very fatiguing. I can listen to these for hours on end quite comfortably.

To sum up, the sound is very, very good. I haven't had the opportunity to audition a lot of other headphones, but these sound better than anything else I listened to.

As for comfort, I have to say these are very comfortable headphones. It took a while to get used to having something so large on my head, as I had never had circumaural headphones before, but once I wore these for a while, I can fall asleep with them on. I would say they are a little loose, which is probably the norm for larger headphones, (I also have a fairly small head) so don't expect to go running or exercising with these on. Also these headphones are very large, which may or may not suit your fashion tastes if you wear them in public.

Finally I think the product details for this headphone need to be updated. They now come with an 80cm straight cord with a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 3 metre, partly coiled, cord, with a 6.35mm headphone jack. There is no headphone jack adapter included anymore, however, you now get a shorter straight cord, which is much more convenient for my purposes as I am using these with my ipod. I also have to say that the included hard carry case is a very nice addition.

So to finish, I wholeheartedly recommend these headphones, unless you are looking for something with more detailed highs.

Just got these for christmas and they are amazing! The come with an extra set ear covers a coiled-ish 3.5 (i think) cord and a smaller straight cord plus a carrying case. The S Logic is truly amazing too, everything comes through crisp and clear and drowns out most everything else. I would highly recommend these headphones!
