After coming across this product online, it immediately caught my eye. I pride myself on owning items that stray away from the norm and cannot be acquired just any old place ensuring that you have at least some uniqueness. These headphones were also reasonably rated by audio aficionados with consideration of the cost of the product.

Let's begin with the good:

These headphones sound just as good or better than any other expensive headphone I have tried in the last 5 years. The sound quality is great and although they are not noise canceling, I survived a 9 hour flight sitting next to cranky kids using minimal volume. On top of which, I wore them almost the entire 9 hours comfortably without any fatigue or pain on my ears. The headphones look great. They are definitely like nothing I have seen elsewhere and will stand out from the sea of Beats Audio headphones which dominate the market. Be assured that they are crafted from real wood. The cord that it comes with also has a mic which can be used with iphone and siri. This helped me while I was deep into Earl Sweatshirt's "Doris" album and my phone was going off in my laptop bag. The cord itself has wood trimmings on both ends which is a nice touch. The self adjusting headband was a doubled edged sword for me, so for the good side, it kept the headphones snug on my head without any adjusting or re-adjusting. The cups swivel making it much easier to store them as flat as possible. It's a pretty straight forward product that's excellent for the price.

The bad:

The headphones started to show signs of wear very quickly. On one of the cups, the cushioning skin began to slip off the cup after only a month of use. I had to ratch it back on myself and now I'm careful of how I store it. Which leads me to my next point. I'm finding it difficult to find a protective case for these. I travel quite a bit and I'm not sure I like stuffing wooden headphones into a bag filled with pens, keys and other sharp objects that might scratch the wooden cups before its time. I wish griffin had provided at least the option for protection. Although the adjustable band has a benefit, it makes it difficult if you like to wear your headphone around your neck, it becomes too snug to wear like that. The adjustable band also requires two components as you can see in the photo, making the headphones much bigger than most of its competitors. Further to concerns of reliability, I have already bent one of the ports on the cord while plugged into a plane seat. I guess that could happen to any brand although, it was a first for me and I have not come across a replacement cord from Griffin Technology. I am using an aftermarket cord at the moment but it lacks the matching wooden fixings and mic.

Overall I would purchase this product again in the future taking into consideration that it needs a small amount of babying. If style and individuality is not a high priority for you, you can consider a more durable alternative. I will be writing Griffin for what it's worth with my suggestions and to to try and get a replacement cord.

UPDATE

Bumped up the product a star. Griffin Tech indeed have replacement woodtones cables on their website, however, the replacements do not come with a mic.

I bought these headphones because I wanted to listen to music for hours and be comfortable. These headphones are one of the most comfortable ones that I have worn. I am not a sound expert, but I would say that the quality is excellent. It is hard to find comfy headphones under 100 bucks, so if you are looking for something comfy, these are for you. The only reason that I did not give it five stars is because the headphones are not the absolute best headphones in the world. Somewhere there are audiophile headphones that are better in sound quality and maybe in comfort.
