Prior to buying this box, I had my DAW's analog output directly connected to my studio monitors and used an old stereo receiver as a headphone amp. I would not have expected the Central Station to make such a huge difference to my way of working but it's been incredibly convenient to be able to control the system volume with a real knob, switch between studio monitors and a cheap boombox and to have the built-in headphone amp with plenty of volume. I can't explain why but being able to run my sound card (Digital Audio Labs CardDeluxe) at full output has made my mixes come out better in the form of crisper sound and better separation of instruments. Next step is to hook up the DAW's digital output to the CS so that I can have a custom headphone mix and leave it up during the tracking process without disrupting whatever mix decisions I've made. This box did exactly what I needed and helped me streamline my workflow without degrading my audio quality.

I've got a very clean signal path, excellent converters, excellent monitors (Genelec), I do all my matrixing and routing through an Audient ASP510, and all I wanted the Central Station for was talkback and the cue send to talent. I liked the fact that I could move the remote control around the room, so the client could use it and the rest of the time the engineer could use it.

I have three complaints: (1) for no reason it completely fails to pass signal and must be unplugged and started up again, (2) it overheats, and (3) oh my god it has the worst-sounding talkback mic I have ever heard. It desperately needs a hi-pass filter on the talkback circuit because it sounds like some evil demon of low frequency RUMBLE has taken over the sound whenever the TB mic is keyed. It DOES have an XLR input for a mic of my choice, but guess what? It has no phantom power, so condenser mics need not apply for the job. Total bust/total crap. The talent complain every time and I don't blame them.

One more gripe for good measure -how about some XLR inputs? Does everything have to be phono plugs?

Super cheap unit. I refuse to pass my mix buss through it, and people who praise the sound have no idea what good sound is. Take it from someone who owns Bryston SST amps and has been in the business of sound since 1983. Looking to sell mine on ebay right now.

I purchased this cord to be able to pay my iPod through my stereo at home. Almost immediately after purchasing, there was a short in the cord and you have to play with it to get it to pick up all portions of the sound. Purchase another brand if you can.

I was looking for a way to connect my ipod-remote-with fm-radio to an ipod dock/speaker (Klipsch), and this was a cheap alternative to the $20 cables I found at Target. It's too bad the radio reception is so poor in the basement/dungeon where I toil away my life (okay, at my job), but the cable works well, and is solidly constructed. Did I say it was cheap?

I purchased this back in August to play my iPod through my car stereo. It worked great for the first week, then only intermittently would it work after that. Now when I do get it to work the sound is awful and I just threw it away and I'm searching for another brand to purchase.

I had an auxiliary audio cable that died on me. I was looking for a replacement that would allow me to hook into my car's stereo system from my SanDisk Sansa Fuse. This product works perfectly, is really sleek looking, and was pretty cheap...the quality of the connectors would indicate otherwise though. I was asked a few times how much I paid for this cable because it looks high end. Love the product, had a great experience with the seller. Would order another one of these if needed, and would do business with the same seller if given the chance :)

I searched all over the internet looking for some real world specifications for the MOTU Track 16 and unfortunately, wasn't able to find any. Frustrated, I decided to call MOTU and try and find out some information. I was referred to one of their technical engineers (Dave), whom I asked, "Why aren't real world specs being provided for the MOTU Track 16?" (They are not even available on MOTU's website.) I was told that MOTU feels technical specifications aren't the best way to judge the quality of an audio interface and that some companies are using them to simply make their competing units "look better" on paper.

While I agree that it's important to try, whenever possible, to sit down and listen to how the interface "sounds" for most of us (including me) it's just not practical. That's why I like to see the specs. So, what did I find out? Not as much as I would have liked, but here is what was provided.

The preamps used in the Track 16 are Burr/Brown preamps. Burr/Brown preamps are highly regarded and the company was purchased by Texas Instruments in September of 2010 for 7.6 billion.

The Signal to Noise ratio of the Track 16 is 112 db ("A" weighted).

The frequency response of the main outs is -+ .05 db from 10hz to 22khz at 44.1.

Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) is .001%.

The ADC/DAC converter chipset is rated at 112 db dynamic range.

Crosstalk is > -90 db.

With these specs, the Track 16 should sound similar to my old M-Audio Delta 1010. Which I happen to like very much. However, I was looking for something that was closer to "studio grade" which in my case led me to the Focusrite Forte. After comparing the Track 16 specs to the Focusrite Forte I ended up choosing and buying the Forte. Why? Well, for one thing Focusrite provided all the specifications I could possibly want and even produced an online video, which allowed me to listen to the Forte before deciding to purchase it.

I really wanted to give MOTU's Track 16 a shot, but I unfortunately couldn't afford to buy both the Track 16 and the Forte. Am I happy with the Focusrite Forte? Absolutely, it's "dead quiet" and sounds more "real" to me than my old Delta 1010.

In MOTU's defense; however, I have to admit they provide a lot of bang for the buck in the Track 16. The amount of stuff included with the Track 16 is just amazing. If I was playing out a lot, I would have probably decided to go with the Track 16. However, I'm not currently doing that, so I decided to go with an audio interface that would allow me to record my songs at the highest quality possible. For me, that's the Focusrite Forte. For those who are interested; the specs for the Forte are substantially higher than the Track 16. For example, the Signal to Noise ratio of the main outs is 118 db (A-weighted). The THD is < .0008% @ 1 kHz, 20Hz to 22kHz, which is inaudible. The DNR of the ADC/DAC chipset is rated at 120 db, though Focusrite does list a real world conversion rates of 117 db for ADC and 118 db for DAC.

Please note, the above are other interfaces I was considering purchasing. There are; however, quite a few audio interfaces made by a number of companies. If you're on a real tight budget, take a good hard look at Focusrite's iTrackSolo ($159.99 retail price) or consider buying a used M-Audio Delta 1010 (currently less than $100.00).

Just received my MOTU Track 16 and it sounds amazing. Had a little hiccup in that I did not do a fresh restart and power up after installing all the drivers and software that came with MOTU. There was a bit of noise that I was hearing when I used the Mac Book Pro. That has gone completely away after doing a restart and powering up the MOTU Track 16. I have let a few friends hear it and they actually thought it sounder better than the others out there that look a little like the same. One even compared the sound to the Ensemble. I am able to use the Firewire on both my Mac Book Pro and Mac Pro running Pro Tools 9.0.6 with no issues. I am very happy with the MOTU Track 16 it sounds great and is working rock solid. I like how the Cue Mix software works and can see using this live as well. The DSP works great and "0" LATENCY with reverb and eq on. The Mic pres sounded good I used them with a DPA 4099G mic, Shure KSM 141 and CAD Triton Tube. all sounded good and warm with my use which is a Flamenco Guitar. The Led's are bright and easy to see even not close to Track 16. If you need a small unit that has the ability to be expandable like with MOTU 8 Mic Pre (light pipe) and need more than 2 channels this is worth a close look. The folks at MOTU make rock solid drivers, software and hardware. This unit Rocks Thanks MOTU

I bought these headphone to replace and older pair of sony headphones I used for dj'ing for years.

When they arrived they were well packaged, as you know they come with two cords one you can use while dj'ing or doing studio work, the other for listening to music with an ipod or any other device. I took them out on a gig this pass weekend they handled great, the highs were not too loud the bass and mids were at the right level that made wereing them for extended club use bareable where as the sony headphones after wereing them a few hours giging in the club the highs got to be annoying over time. The ear cushion the next day seemed to stick together for what ever reason when I had the headphones stored away in my gig bag..I thought something may have spilled on the bag, so I cleaned them up to be sure and the next day after another night gig the same thing happened again. Other then that great set of head phones price tagged just under 100.00 bucks.

This is definitely one of the best phone I've ever listened to! i usually listen to hip-hops and R&Bs and raps, sometimes classical musics, and hdj-500 rocks! It performs perfectly in the low end, the bass is tight and deep, although it is a little muffled, but it should get better after burn-in. The highs are a little recessed, but overall enjoyable. The mids sound a little unclear, due to the boomy bass, but if you listen to hip-hops, then it definitely worth a buy. This headphone has a very enjoyable sound signature, it is definitely one of my favorite! Compare to my Ath-m50, it is only lacking a little bit in clarity and little recessed in the highs (from a portable mp3 player), but way better bass!! The HDJ-500 is well constructed, the build is solid, and sounds fantastic with a mp3!!

Setup was automatic, easier than our previous Shure wireless headset, which required setting the channel. The sound quality is full and clear. We do have a problem with the windscreen coming off when packing and unpacking the microphone headset from our tight travel case. The windscreen comes with a velcro to hold it in place on the mic, but we must be too rough with it.

I've been DJ'ing for almost three years, two of which I've been using the same pair of these headphones. For me, the main benefit of these headphones is that they don't cup the ear entirely, allowing me to easily put them on and take them off. Additionally, unlike more expensive headphones, these headphones only reverse on one axis and don't swivel around. In my experience the "swivel" becomes a nuisance and is overrated.

Simple design (not cumbersome like most DJ headphones)

Lightweight

No Swivel (personal preference)

Does not go over ear (personal preference)

Cons

Not comfortable enough to wear for leisure, but that may be because I have a large head.

Cups will sometimes detach, but they snap right back in.

Doesn't collapse for easier transport

As a tip for aspiring DJ's, if you insist on fancier headphones, forget sound quality and focus on the functionality. On the job, you will neither notice nor care if another pair of headphones sound better.

Sound quality: 3 out of 5. Half decent, but not worth $29 in my opinion (even though I bought it for $12, which is about the right price for these). The bass output is noticeably less than my JVC HA-S700 and sounds muffled compared to those.

Comfort: 2 out of 5. I have a small head (adult small/x-small) and these feel too tight, after about 20 minutes using I have to take them off to relieve the pressure. Even with them being tight, I plugged them into my amp and began to jam on my guitar and any movement more than a simple head nod made the headband flip on top of my face. The only thing I like about these are that it has the cord coming from one side vice both.

Durability: 1 out of 5. After two weeks of owning, I plugged them into my computer and listened to a little bit of music and all was normal. I switched songs and noticed the right ear piece was not playing. I switched back to the song I was listening to before and still wasn't playing.

I went back and forth trying to figure out if I wanted to buy these headphones largely because of some of the negative reviews. I order them figuring I would only lose about $10 if they were not any good, well guess what they are good headphones and for the price a very good item. They r lite weight, fit firmly and has a very clear sound coming thru. For DJ's, Mp3 or computer use you wont be disappointed. People rate them as if they r Bose but they not; ur not paying $200 rate according as the line goes, apples to apples not Numark to Bose. Some of those people have no business rating things; rate facts. Dont compare a BMW to a Saturn.
