I've had these for a couple of months now and for phones to use during hard exercise and bike training they are my favorites. I get a nice ear seal with the large foam tips, very solid and comfortable, and I get as much isolation as I like at any given time. The sound quality is good with very good clarity and pleasing bass and plenty of sensitivity for use with my iphone. The best I've used so far.

The UM1 is my first balanced armature IEM and they have made like an IEM again. I bought them knowing that they lacked bass but I wanted them for mainly listening to jazz while on the go. They fit well and are reasonably close to being flush in my ear. I would recommend Comply ear pads for better fit, comfort and noise isolation. Build quality seems good but I do make sure not to handle the cable roughly while in use and keep it in the supplied case while not in use.

As far as comparisons go,I have a pair of MEE A151 BA IEM and the UM1 is a definite overall step above them. The A151 does have a warmer sound and better bass but lags in detail and build quality. If I ever want move to a better BA IEM,I would definitely consider Westone first.

After setting up a smallish home theater for my bedroom and modifying a headphone set with velour earphone cups, the last thing I needed was a stand to set the headphones on. I had tried a couple of approaches that did not work out due to instability or needing two hands to hang them. I selected the "Brainwavz Quartz". The material is crystal clear polished plastic, not quartz. Quartz is the model name. The plastic bottom surface needed some clear rubber feet for friction, which I added. The result is a simple to use, single hand usable and stable stand. I like the design and it is the perfect "last item" for my system.

This is a very attractive head phone holder. Looks great on my computer desk. Set up was easy. You take it out of the packaging and place it on your desk. Head phones fit naturally on it's surface. It is also very sturdy. I was worried that the stand would fall over a lot but the base is very large and it stands the abuse of my cluttered computer desk. I imagine that this will last for years. Hopefully they will come up with a crazy design for two or more head phones. Thank you.

I was really looking for a good stand for my headphones at a pretty low price. I looked at many stands and too be honest, a lot of the stands were either to flimsy looking or they had a very narrow ledge that the cans actually rested on and over time, this would begin to deteriorate the headband in the spot that rested on the stand. So I came across this one by Brainwaves, which has a very sturdy design. Also the ledge where the cans rest is fairly wide, which disperses the weight better across more of the headband than just a tiny bit. So if your cans weigh a good amount, you won't have to worry about wearing a spot in your headband. What I like most about this stand is the fact that since the design of this stand is a little unique compared to others, let's the headphones not only rest on the ledge, but also has the cans extend down towards the base of the stand, there is an indention where the headphones are able to rest some of the weight, so as not all of the weight is being dispersed entirely on the headband, so there is literally no way that your headband will become damaged over time for hanging there.

Saw the negative comments made toward one reviewer above and that convinced me to get one. I am annoyed by purist snobs. I had been looking for a portable keyboard just to practice with and for my church youth choir to use. I have played on several very beautiful grand pianos over the years in the Boston area. Keyboard arrived today and I give it high marks for portability and appearance. The tone is superb, BUT the on-board speakers do not do it justice. Very thin sounding, lacking bass and some midrange. So, I played it through my Peavey keyboard amp, closed my eyes (had the amp facing away from me, slightly in front of the keyboard), and you could not convince me that I was not sitting back at a grand piano. Bottom line: before you judge any digital sound product, consider the equipment you are using for output. Any digital keyboard will sound better with better equipment if the samples it has are good. In this case a $150 keyboard amp allows for the beautiful sampling to come through. I am sure when I patch it through our new church sound system, either directly or by miking the amp it will be amazing.

So, does this sound like a real grand piano? Not out of the box. But it does with a decent keyboard amp or good headphones. I recommend the Peavey KB1 for at home, but not less than the KB2 for performance or larger spaces. Very rich sound, and of course then the responsiveness is enhanced as well. I did see someone comment on other keyboards of this type that their fingers can stick to the plastic keys. Easy solution for this: furniture polish on the keys. Just wipe it down once or twice and the keys will feel and play much better without sticking to you. Plus it makes the keyboard smell nice, like lemons.

The keys are not weighted, but rather are of varied resistance. I prefer weighted keys, but these are not bad. Close enough to be much, much better than non-resistive keys.

I would highly recommend this product for those looking for a very realistic piano sound but are willing to use at least a basic keyboard amp or high quality headphones to get that sound. It is much more enjoyable to play with a small amp. I personally do not think you get good speakers on these keyboards until you get close to the thousand dollar range, so another $150 bucks for a KB1 (or a used keyboard amp for probably less than $100 at a local music store) is not too bad. I'd say this sounds better with a cheap amp than ones costing more than twice as much with just speakers.

As always, whenever you can, go to your local music store and try out different keyboards and keyboard-amp combinations.

Addendum: we just used this keyboard and the small Peavey amp for our church talent show in a hall that seats 400, with about 250 in attendance. I had to turn the amp and keyboard down to half because it projected so well. There was no need to connect it to the PA system. This was an impressive test and judging by the applause after the various piano acts, people were pleased. I stood in various places during the show, and the piano was crystal clear with some nice bottom. I could see that a larger space would need a larger amp to get more of the bottom out, but here it is fine.

Here's what I need:

-A lightweight keyboard that I can carry 7 blocks on my way to church.

-Something that doesn't have "marshmallow" keys that just pop back up when you press them.

-Something that will sound ok hooked up to a cheap sound system.

-Bass notes to fill out the sound.

-Target price of $300

Here's what I really want:

-Weighted, full-sized keys (these are neither, though they have some resistance).

-A rich, full-bodied acoustic sound (get real, this is a keyboard)

-The closest I could possibly get to a piano in keyboard form without spending all of my savings (I'm a recent college grad, cut me a break).

I realized what I needed would trump what I wanted, since my budget was so low.

So, I read a lot of reviews last night and decided to purchase this from Guitar Center today. My sales guy was helpful and got me a $30 discount.

Pros:

-It is lightweight, although carrying it 7 blocks will still be a challenge for little ol' me.

-Has a decent feel to the keys. It's better than some cheaper yamaha's I've played where you just keep hitting wrong notes because the keys are so tiny and flimsy.

-The touch-sensitivity (quiet when pressed lighter, louder when pressed harder) is nicer than I've experienced in some other keyboards. I've played others where this feature was a nightmare when you are used to playing on an acoustic piano.

-I read in other reviews that this product does well hooked up to a sound system. Our church's sound system is not great, so I'm not sure what to expect. I'll try to update after Sunday.

-Guitar center's 30-day return policy.

-Battery powered (AA), which I think is pretty cool.

Cons:

-The plastic has a pretty fragile (read: cheap) feel to it, and that makes me nervous when I think about transporting it.

-Doesn't come with the AC adapter, which I think is a money-hungry business move. Apparently it doesn't work with the same adapter as some of the older Yamaha's that I have.

-I don't really care about the extra sounds it offers besides Grand Piano/Electric Piano, but I wish that since there are only 5 (plus a variation of each, so really, 10), that they would have traded the harpsichord for more electric piano sounds.

-It doesn't fit in the case I was planning to use (although that doesn't apply to you guys...)

-I'm not thrilled about the "auto-off" feature, and I wish it could be disabled. I would like the keyboard to stay on the setting I've put it on while I play at church. We play one song and then the second set of songs is 45 minutes later, meaning I'll have to turn it back on and make sure it's set to whatever sound/variation I would like to use.

-The power button is tricky. It's hard to tell how long to hold it to turn it on/off

Overall, if you have to go cheap and still want a decent feel/sound, this is the way to go.

I absolutely love this keyboard. I've had it for about a week now, and it is so much better than my old one. I am not a musician who plays out or anything. I'm just a novice who enjoys learning songs, so this piano is perfect for me. I have played on many real pianos, and this is a very satisfying substitute. I highly reccomend it!

The only thing that I do not like it is beacuse the batteries discharge very quickly, and when they do, the piano still works but the speakers sound like the speakers don't work fine. After send it to warranty they told us everything was ok, in the meanwhile we recived the AC Power Adapter and since then everything is perfect.

We move around a lot and our last place did not have room for a traditional piano. We sold our old piano and I got myself this as a replacement. I love, love it! With our old upright, we were always spending upwards of $200 to have it tuned all the time. With this, I don't have to worry about it, I can play anytime and it's in tune everytime. I love how it plays louder if you press the keys harder. Perfect size and portability for sound.

I think it this headphone drives the upper frequency range slightly better than the lower, but with good equalizer use you can produce the driving bass u desire (if u do). Very comfortable fit. Sometimes there is no sound in one of the ears. Moving the jack ever so slightly produces electric noise. This means the contact is unreliable.

Being a very simple device, charged with a simple and the only task of splitting the contact in two, it does not serve its purpose. Unacceptably poor design, poorly executed. And so it goes into the garbage bin.

WOW! I truly was not expecting much from $20 ear buds, but I wanted a pair as back up to my Beats by Dre buds. I have tried a few other ear buds in the past from Skully Candy JBuds but they couldn't compare to these. These little buds ended up being well worth it and were close to the level of quality I have experienced to my Beats ear buds. I listen to a wide range of music and talk radio and I put these through the paces. Great bass, mids, and treble was up to par, also the vocals were not drowned out. Sound is crisp and clear. Granted my HTC phone has Beats by Dre technology so I also tried it with Beats Audio disabled and they still sound great.

The KEY to ear buds such as these is the gels! This is very important! I find that choosing the gel that is one size up from your ear creates a good suction inside the canal and keeps all the glorious audio inside your head.

If you're looking for a inexpensive ear bud solution give these a try, you won't be disappointed.

Prior to owning the audiOHM HF earbuds, I used the iconic white Apple earbuds as my mobile headphones. I also own a large boom-mic gaming headset with phenomenal sound quality, so I have a good frame of reference to review this product from a non-audiophile perspective.

First off, ergonomics and form: It seems like standard earbuds (like the Apple iPod/iPhone set) aren't designed to stick in your ear as much as they are designed to "hang" there in the opening. I find it to be incredibly stupid if they're not shoved in just right, you get audio leaks and lose sound quality. On the other hand, if you jam it in there as deep as you can, it's painful and probably won't stay there for long. The audiOHM avoids that glaring design flaw by implementing a roughly 35-degree bend on the sound port. This, combined with a flexible rubber cup on the end, allows the audiOHM to stick deeper into the ear canal than traditional headphones while maintaining solid contact and a proper seal. This contributes greatly to audio quality, which I will discuss in the next section. My wife uses regular old cheap-o headphones and never complained about the fit, but as soon as she tried on my new pair of audiOHMs, she instantly wanted a set for herself.

Sound quality: As I mentioned previously, the tighter, deeper seal of the audiOHMs is not only comfortable, but also greatly improves the audio quality. My music seems louder and fuller than traditional headphones that fail to seal the entire ear canal. Outside noise is also greatly reduced versus the Apple pair. I believe it may also contribute to the better bass effect over the Apple set, but let's face it, Apple headphones just plain suck for anything except phone calls. Mid-range on the audiOHMs is clear and crisp, I don't notice any abnormal hissing on the high-end (I expected a little let's be realistic here), and the bass is deep and rich for such small, comfortable, and inexpensive headphones.

The integrated microphone is just icing on the cake and the awesomely low pricetag is the ice cream on the side!

These are the best earbuds I've ever owned. Barring some freak washing machine accident, I can see myself owning this pair for a long, long time.

Closing words: If you're an audiophile, don't bother, because you're not going to get the same experience from this that you get from those luxury sets that are ten times the price. If you're a hipster, don't bother, because these aren't very kitsch. If you're a rapper, don't bother, because these aren't made by Dr. Dre. If you're just looking for comfortable high-quality earbuds that won't break the bank, buy these! You won't be disappointed!

Buy GOgroove audiOHM HF Ergonomic Earbuds Earphones w/ Hands-Free Microphone & Deep Bass ( Royal Red ) Now

It's hard to know what to expect from a set of earbuds that only cost $17.00. For listening to music, these have remarkably clean, crisp, well-articulated highs and upper mids. They're a bit lacking in the lower mids and bass, and because of that, they lack a certain sweetness or mellowness that makes extended listening a pleasure. After a while at moderately high volume they start to sound a bit brassy or shrill and I want to turn down the volume. With the volume down the sound is more pleasant, though a bit thin.

Still, for $17.00 .... I could keep a set in the office, a set in the bedroom, a set in the car ....

As a hands-free phone headset they work well enough. They make it easy to switch from music to a phone call and back, and the sound is quite acceptable.

The design of the jack is poor. The body (the part you grab to plug it in and pull it out) is short, slender, slick, and tapers down to the wire. This makes it extremely hard to pull it out of the phone without tugging on the wire, which doesn't look like it would tolerate much tugging. Very annoying. A longer body with a reverse taper would fix that problem.

I've always had trouble with ear buds falling out of my right ear, even though I don't use them for anything more strenuous than sitting at my desk. These come with a supply of silicon gels in 3 sizes, and using a large gel in my right ear gives me the best fit I've had.

I was looking to replace a headset with a broken jack that I've had for 4 years. Since I'm not an audiophile it's unlikely that I can tell the difference between a $25 headset and a $50 one, so I set out to buy the cheapest pair on Amazon with a decent rating. My search lead me to this brand, so I shelled about $19 (with shipping) for it. While waiting for the item to arrive, I found a Skull Candy Ink'd headset on sale in a local store for $10 (normally $25), and being the cheapskate that I am, I couldn't resist buying it.

Prior to this I thought the headset that came with my iPhone was great. When I put the Skull Candy on its pronounced bass took me by surprise, even though the vocals sound a bit tinny. All of a sudden the standard Apple headset doesn't cut it anymore. Then the GoGroove arrived, and to my surprise it performs even better. The Audiohm has the bass punch of the Ink'd, but without any sacrifice in clarity. The best I can describe it is that it has a 'full' sound.

If you can spare $20 go ahead and buy it, you're not likely to get anything better for the same price.

Want GOgroove audiOHM HF Ergonomic Earbuds Earphones w/ Hands-Free Microphone & Deep Bass ( Royal Red ) Discount?

I purchased these because the good reviews outweighed the bad and even though I like the look, feel and sound, I started getting complaints about how I sounded on the phone after about a month. It's progressively getting worse and now the silver cover you see in the picture is falling out.

I will not purchase again and want to try bluetooth earbuds because no matter how neatly I put these corded ones away, they always get tangled like a pocket fairy tied it into knots! Not a product flaw... happens with any wired headphones I've used. :)

**Update**

My item was over the 30 day return mark but the company reached out to me and offered to exchange them for free. I did receive them but, I'm now using some kickass bluetooth earbuds by LG. I initially gave this product 2 stars because of the mic failure but it was one pair out many that work great.

The new pair work great and since Accessory Genie was willing to help, I'm giving them 5 stars for a very good product and excellent customer service!

Will keep the GOgroove for working out and as a backup.

This thing is great. I needed to bypass my crappy soundcard on my PC in order to record high quality stereo audio onto my computer for a podcast. I had just shelled out $80 for the Inport Deluxe package from Xitel, which is basically a little analog-audio-to-USB adapter box similar to this, with a long audio cable and some bad software thrown in to justify the steep pricetag. Luckily I saved the receipt on the Inport and was able to take it back after discovering this item, which you can find for about $30 all over the internet.

The UCA202 has a headphone jack with a volume control so you can monitor what's being recorded to your computer, as you record it. Just be aware that you won't be able to listen to the playback from your audio recording software through your computer's monitor speakers unless you unplug this device from your USB port first, and there is no warning about this in the manual, which is why the 4 star review instead of 5. On some review sites there seemed to be confusion about what drivers were required to work with this device, but the first page of the manual states clearly that you don't need any drivers. I am running Windows XP and was able to just plug and play, no drivers needed, audio is loud and clear. By the way this is not a paid endorsement or anything, I just wanted to spare someone else a lot of the research time that I spent by saying, go ahead and get it.

Oh and of course you do need a good audio recording software like ProTools, Sound Forge, or Cubase to do a decent job of recording audio on your computer and letting you edit it and manipulate it with professional sounding results. If you are recording audio from a turntable (digitizing your LP collection) don't forget that you need some sort of preamp or tuner amp between the phonograph and this device. The output straight out of your turntable is too weak a signal to drive this device.

A grateful shout-out and mad props for this device go the Germans at Behringer, who designed it.

I agree with the other reviewers with one exception. I recommend that a buyer download the driver provided at behringer.com. While UCA202 works without the driver, its capabilities are expanded and the user can better manage them with the driver. If you think it is good without the drivers, try it with them. By the way it also works with Vista.

I got this after purchasing a competitor's similar device (iMic) and finding poor reviews from audio purists about that model. This Behringer model had good reviews and was a similar price to I got one to try. It works well and has more rugged construction.

When I first set it up, it did not allow monitoring except through headphones. On my Windows XP system, I went to Control Panel and opened Sounds and Audio Devices. Then clicked the Audio tab and changed the Sound Playback device to the usual system device instead of the USB device that was apparently setup when this was installed. Then the music that was being recorded played through the computer speakers fine and that setting stayed when I closed the program and restarted. This was using Audacity for recording.

I bought this device to do audio recording and it works super for me for that. I've nothing to add to the other positive reviews in this regard except to emphasize that you need some sort of pre-amp to get the signal to line-level, and that the recording level will be controlled by whatever device you have to do that -I use a Behringer mixer.

What I do want to add is that I discovered that it is also a superb digital to audio converter. Which is to say that, when listening to mp3s or web radio, or watching videos, the audio output through it is much, much better than that from the output jacks on on-board sound cards. What had sounded harsh and tinny now sounds musical and warm, and I've found this so with both a HP laptop and a Dell desktop, whether using headphones plugged into the UCA202's headphone-jack, or listening to a stereo system plugged into its RCA output jacks. The $30 that it cost would have been well spent for this improvement in audio output alone!

This product works precisely as advertised. I use it to record my LPs to MP3 then import into iTunes. I have my old turntable feeding into a pre-amp, then from the pre-amp to this devise, which in turn plugs into one of my computer's USB ports. I use "Spin-it-again" software to capture the music files and save them to MP3 format. This set up was much cheaper than buying one of those USB turntables since I already had my old turntable. Good Luck.

EDIT 8/5/2012: Removed extensive comparisons with other models considered to limit the length of my already somewhat long-winded review. If you care to read my in-depth thoughts on the other models, though, I plan to post a full review of each model in the next week or so.

I came fairly to choosing these while looking for a pair of over-the-ear headphones primarily for on-the-go usage with a portable media player. I've got a pair of Skullcandy 50/50 earbuds that are overall pretty good and have served me well, but I've realized after about a year that I just prefer the feel of over-the-ear headphones over in-ear for a variety of reasons including overall comfort, how easy it is to accidentally pull earbuds out of your ears, or lose the rubber tips, and so on. From the other side of the spectrum, I've got a pair of Sennheiser HD280 over-the-ear headphones that I use as my primary "at home" listening medium. Those are freakin' amazing and I love them, but their overall size and extra-long coiled cord would make them a bit unwieldy for portable use. So essentially what I got these for was to use as a good pair of over-ear headphones for listening to music on-the-go, typically for 1-2 hours at a time with a break here and there for various reasons.

Other headphones considered (in order of preference, descending):

V-Moda Crossfade LP2*

Soul by Ludacris SL150*

Sony MDR-XB500

Sony DR-ZX701IP

Skullcandy HESH 2

Beats by Dr. Dre Solo*

Skullcandy Lowrider

Skullcandy Skullcrushers

Anyway, on the the review:

:::: Sound ::::

Overall better than average balance of sounds for the price range. I listen to a fairly wide range of music including most types of EDM (electronic dance music), classical, jazz, rock/metal and so on. My main staples of late are drum 'n' bass and dubstep, although a lot of what have become my long-term favorite artists tend to mix the "new" (rock/EDM) with more traditional musical styles and instrumentation... look up Korpiklaani, Amon Tobin, Banco de Gaia and/or Gogol Bordello for a few examples. I'm not a hardcore audiophile (or at last doesn't consider myself to be), but I am big music fan and want my music to sound good when I listen to it. For the most part, this model has proven to be no slouch in the headphone arena, especially given the price point. In fact, these cans have done surprisingly well across the board of my musical tastes.

On bass-heavy EDM tracks like the appropriately-named "Shudder" by Black Sun Empire/Crushington, these headphones deliver a visceral bass that you can definitely feel, while lighter songs like "Bedtime Stories" by Amon Tobin don't suffer from weak treble/highs. I haven't listened to a lot of rock/metal/punk in some time, but I pulled up a few of my favorite songs and they all sounded at least as good as I remember them. This style of music tends not to produce the same levels of visceral bass response that EDM does, but this is true on my significantly higher-end HD280s as well, so the cause is not a fault in these headphones. Because the mids/treble in a lot of EDM can accurately be described as a "whine" or "siren-like" sound, I also made sure to test these with music consisting almost exclusively of "organic" instrumentation... classical, jazz, choral and the like... with positive results. Potentially a superficial test, since I doubt the electronics in the headphones can differentiate between them, but I feel like it'd be easier to notice flaws in the sound reproduction of a poor-quality pair of headphones using this type of music than the heavily-synthesized sounds of EDM. Call it a hunch.

Overall, these headphones are a solid contender given the asking price for them. The Sony models were a bit better in terms of pure sound quality, but had other issues that made them less than ideal for me. The other Skullcandy headphones were substantially weaker, in my opinion, and these are the clear winners within the brand.

:::: Comfort ::::

These headphones fit tightly, which I like overall, but combined with the on-ear design makes them somewhat uncomfortable for extended listening. For the first hour, hour and a half or even two hours in some cases, these headphones feel perfectly fine. Strong bass seems like it might exacerbate the issue for bespectacled folk like myself, though, since having the side parts of the frames pressed between one's ear and one's head does get uncomfortable after a bit, even while listening to tunes on the "lighter" side of things/without heavy bass vibrations, although I admit to not having tested this while I had the headphones. I've also seen some complaints in other reviews about the lack of padding on the arch of the headphones, although with the way they fit (on my head, at least) this is a non-issue since the arch only slightly rests on the top of my head. For my uses, however, these issues don't become unbearable, since I'm taking off the headphones before they would start to set in 90% of the time.

Once again, at the price point these headphones are sold at, they offer a solid value in the comfort department even with the shortcomings noted above, especially given the "total package" in comparison to other similarly-priced headphones. I would say honestly speaking, though, that I would have to rate these headphones lower than all the other models tried in terms of pure comfort (although the Lowriders were only comfortable because they were so loose fitting that they fell off fairly easily, so I'm not sure how much that counts).

:::: Style ::::

These headphones are overall pretty decent looking. The 3/4 angle found in most stock photos is certainly the most favorable angle to view these from, with a straight-ahead view being the worst (the cups are almost perfect half-spheres, resulting in a "Princess Leia buns" appearance). One of the irritating things about over-ear headphones in general, of course, is that the better ones do have a tendency to be huge monstrosities that look awkward as heck when you wear them, so it requires some creative design in general to produce an aesthetically pleasing pair. In the end, these have enough style to them and sound good enough that the "buns" effect, while still somewhat irritating, is something I can live with.

Compared to other models I considered, the overall appearance of the Skullcrushers and Sony DR-ZX701IPs are much more to my liking. The lower profile of the DR-ZX701IPs also help to make them more aesthetically pleasing, in my opinion. If it weren't for the other issues, the articulating ear cups and collapsible/stashable design of the Skullcrushers/Lowriders would have been a major selling point for me, as well. The Lowriders I would rate lower due to being /too/ lightweight looking to the point of simply looking cheap, and the Sony MDR-XB500s just look ridiculous, and don't even have the articulation/stashable design of the Skullcrushers and Lowriders.

:::: Durability ::::

Gotta say that these feel like a rather solid pair of headphones, despite being almost 100% plastic aside from the wiring, driver magnets and ear cushions. As far as practical real-world durability, that's something I can't tell after only having owned these for a week or two. I'm fairly easy on my electronics, but being a computer technician and working with laptops, the casings of which are usually thin plastic pieces, has given me a rather precise sense for how much strain plastics can safely handle, and these headphones seem like they would require a fairly severe incident to break accidentally, and can handle normal wear and tear admirably.

The MDR-XB500s are more-or-less on par with these and, compared to the Lowriders or even the Skullcrushers (although to a far lesser degree), these feel like a veritable brick house of solid design. One advantage of these and the other Skullcandy options, though, is that they carry a lifetime warranty that gets you 50% off a replacement pair even if they break (most companies would just shrug this off as abuse and not do anything for you).

:::: Miscellaneous Thoughts ::::

Another reviewer, whom I don't remember if he posted his review on Amazon or elsewhere, unfortunately, brought up an interesting point he noticed about these headphones. According to him, an audiophile with a much more refined ear than mine if his self-description is at all accurate, it sounded like these headphones were emphasize the bass and bottom-end mids to give them the "awesome bass" that they have, which he felt to be a fairly strong negative point against this model. If I remember correctly his reasoning had to do with causing listening fatigue more easily than headphones where this technique is not used. So far this has not seemed to be an issue for me, though.

:::: Conclusion ::::

Despite the comfort factor being in favor of the Sony MDR-XB500 headphones and other factors for the most part being equal or slightly better, I do intend to use these headphones primarily in public, and the aesthetics of those are absolutely awful, so I had to pass. The DR-ZX701IPs are nice and low-profile/lightweight, but have volume issues (they just didn't seem *loud*, even at full volume on my music player). That said, these headphones are no disappointment in any category, even if they also aren't the best of the models I've tried in some areas, either. Another benefit of going with a Skullcandy model, since it's worth repeating is that they offer a lifetime warranty that even provides partial coverage against physical damage/abuse, so if the durability ends up being cruddy one would likely get their next pair for free or drastically discounted even if they didn't fail until 2-3 or years after the date of purchase.

**** UPDATED 7/27/2012 ****

Ultimately, I've ended up returning these and am now checking out some higher-end headphones. I guess I'm a pickier listener and/or more of an audiophile than I thought. The models I'm considering now are the Soul SL150 on-ear headphones (we have a live display of them where I work, and they sound pretty awesome) and a pair from a company called V-MODA (Crossfade LP2), which I've admittedly never heard of before, but was favorably mentioned in reviews of the SL150s. Part of the reason for this is that as I broke in the HESHes, they seemed to lose some of their "punch" across the sound spectrum. I found myself being able to listen to music with them on my phone at full volume for most music and still desiring it to be ever-so-slightly louder, whereas before they were loud enough that I had to turn them down 1-2 notches, depending on what I was listening too.

I'm not changing the main review, though, to include comparisons to these models, since they are in an entirely different price bracket. After all, for over 100% more $$$, the models I'm considering now had better sound significantly better. Despite my personal choice as a borderline-but-not-quite-audiophile to fork over a bit more cash to get a pair of headphones I'm truly excited about, I stand by my original assertion that the Hesh headphones from Skullcandy are a very respectable choice given the price range, and would serve plenty of people just fine.

**** Updated 8/4/2012 ****

Ended up absolutely falling in love with the V-MODA Crossfade LP2s. The Soul SL150s proved to be above and beyond any of the Sony or Skullcandy models and all-around extremely good, but the V-MODAs were another monumental step up even from there in my opinion. They are also the best constructed and best looking of all of the on-ear and over-ear headphones I've checked out by far, on top of being the best sounding. The warranty even offers a level of guarantee similar to Skullcandy's (100% coverage against normal use for 2 years, 50% off replacements for the life of the product if the failure is not a defect/normal wear issue or the product is older than 2 years).

As far as the Skullcandy HESH model is concerned, I still stick by my assertion that they are an overall solid product for the price point and a great choice for people who want something better than $10 earbuds, but still don't consider headphones an "investment" (especially bass-heads), but urge others that have better quality sound as their primary consideration to take a serious look at the V-MODA Crossfade LP2s, despite the significant price jump. I personally feel they will prove to be worth every penny.

If you are looking for great looking headphones that also produce great sound quality at an affordable price, then these are for you. I also own a set of Bose headphones and although I like the Bose better, the Hesh 2 headphones have high quality craftsmanship and cost a fraction of the Bose. I can honestly say that these headphones are the best in their class and worth every penny.

the first thing I noticed when I un-boxed these was the HUGE improvement in quality over the original hesh, they just felt much better in the hands and I was pumped to test them out. Plugged them into my iPod, put bassbooster on, and played "We run the night" First I thought wow these are much crisper sounding then my original hesh, which was a good thing, but then the bass hit and it was like "meh" it produced it just fine but just not very loud, then I looked down at my iPod and saw I was one level below max volume! My fave part about the original Hesh was the efficiency, they were quite loud at half volume. Not so with these headphones.

Next I plugged these into my headphone amp, and HOLY SHIT these cans came alive! bass was rock solid, highs were crisp and clear, loudness was perfect! These sound way better then the original hesh, skullcrushers and agent when amped.

These headphones are much more accurate then the original hesh, I've found that poorly compressed songs and low bit rate songs are much more noticeable on these headphones then my first hesh. These headphones replicate the recorded songs perfectly and you can hear every nuance.

They are also incredible for EDM, all my hardcore techno songs are getting a second life on these headphones and I think this is due to the high accuracy of the bass and highs on these headphones. Because they are more accurate it also means less listening fatigue, I can listen to these for hours with little to no listening fatigue.

These aren't as good for post-hardcore/screamo/metal etc. because they seem to be lacking a little in the mid-high bass, but they still sound great.

For rap and hip hop these sound pretty beast mainly due to the amazingly accurate low-end bass and crisp highs which can be prevalent in rap songs.

Dubstep is insanely good on these headphones, every subtle vibration is blasted into your brain with awesomeness xD

Because mainstream stuff takes elements from EDM, hip-hop, rap and even dubstep sometimes, all the top 40 songs will likely sound amazing on these cans.

EDIT: after blasting these with my amp for about an hour, the efficiency improved DRAMATICALLY, tested with iPod again and bass is now much better then the original hesh and the volume at half is about the same as original hesh at half. THESE HEADPHONES ROCK! BUY THEM! skullcandy just keeps getting better:)

A lot of people have written long winded reviews about these... so i'll be extremely brief.

Went to (big box store) to try out headphones.

First priority was comfort, second was blocking out external noise.

Primary purpose is to listen to powerpoint and videos for my online class, usually in a noisy environment.

Of all the headphones I tried, two worked really well.

The first was a $400 pair of Bose... way out of my budget.

The second were these.

Almost bought them in store, but I wanted black, and the store only had white.

Also, the store had them for $60.

Ordered them here for almost $20 less. Got them quickly.

Tried them out with all sorts of music on multiple devices, and they exceeded my expectations.

Went to a loud diner, logged into my homework, watched a presentation with all the exterior noise blocked out.

Perfect.

Came home, lay on the couch for a few hours listening to more music.

Surprisingly comfortable.

These arent as trendy as the $200 headphones everyone has.

However, they work. Really really well.

There are MANY cables to choose from to connect your cell phone to an AUX port in your car. A search in Amazon for "3.5 cables" returns a mind-boggling 374,640 results. How to winnow that down to a reasonable number, and then, how to choose one.

There are the obvious factors: it has to work. That means it should be shielded, and have solid contacts on both ends, preferably "gold-plated."

This cable easily satisfies all the technical concerns. It has full shielding to prevent cross-talk.

A thick coating makes it durable, but still flexible.

It has the required gold-plated contacts.

Personally, I like the blue color also as it makes it easier to find in the messy center console of my car.

The biggest issue for me was the length, 4ft instead of the more common 3ft. For some reason, Toyota located the AUX input in my Prius in the front of the center console, rather than the front of the radio where all the other controls are. Then, when I put my phone into a handy cradle (I like iOttie HLCRIO101 One Touch XL Windshield Dashboard Car Mount Holder for Galaxy S4/Galaxy) a 3ft cable barely reaches. I have to turn the phone into the horizontal position to make it fit. The extra foot makes a big difference.

I give the cable a full five stars as it does everything I could ask of it.

Note that there is a deal when you buy this cable in conjunction with the Yubi Power® YPCC-210B 2.1Amps, a very nice car charger.

Like others most of the other cables I've gotten have been mediocre at best they work fine for awhile but the thin wire cord gets tangled, begins to pull out of the connectors and before you know it you're missing a left or right channel.

This one wasn't really much more expensive but it's much better built and looks ready to hold up to a lot of use. The multiple lengths are helpful as well. I got the 4 foot cord. This is just right for me gives plenty of room to put the phone on the seat or have others select songs. If you want it to stretch to the back seat get the 6 foot one or longer. If you want less cord hanging from the stereo go with the shorter 2.5 feet (though you'll be very limited in how far you can move it)

I'd buy another in fact I might buy one for my wife's car too!

Since getting my car, I've used Bluetooth to connect to my vehicle to play my music from my phone. I did some reading around and heard that using an Auxiliary cable improves the quality of my music, while also being convenient. I honestly can't detect any improvement in sound quality, but it is convenient that I can just plug and play, versus turning on Bluetooth, tapping to sync to my car, then playing. The cable definitely feels and looks great, though I did notice you can twist the ends off, making them lose which I'm honestly not sure is supposed to happen, maybe loose glue or something? I'd give it 5 stars for working just as I wanted, except the possible quality issue.

This cable is nice. I use it to connect my mp3 player to a device so I can play my bass along with the music through my headseat. The sound is crisp and the cables feel solid, not cheap. I had another set that I loaned to someone else and it didn't allow the music to sound as great as this cable does. It was delivered on time too.
