I ordered this product from Amazon, and it arrived very quickly. Packaging was sufficient to the need, though there were no instructions or parts-lists. This thing is easy enough to put together that it doesn't really matter.

As far as the item itself, it is obvious that it's only a couple hundred bucks. The 'ebony' fingerboard is just black-painted wood, so be prepared to polish the heck out of it to get the worst off. My fingers, even after vigorous wiping and several days of use, still turn a little black by the end of a session. The strings are pathetically cheap, and the fine tuners just do not want to let go of the strings. I can thread the string through the gap, but popping it out through the space between the prongs is difficult, and you'll probably just damage the string. Just go ahead and order new strings and fine-tuners while you're buying this thing. The body also seems to be a little bit longer than my 4/4 acoustic, which makes finding a comfortable and correct position a bit of a challenge (for those of us of moderate stature), but it's not insurmountable. On the positive side, it seems very sturdily made. The crook between the neck and the 'body' is exactly in the shape and location needed so you can find fourth and higher positions. It's very easy to set up--just set the bridge in the slot and tighten the strings over it. The sound is quite metalic--as you might expect--but not too bad. Volume-wise, it is akin to a very heavily muted cello, and perfectly suitable to play and not aggravate the neighbors, even at forte. It is quite heavy, which is annoying in some ways, but it means I'm much more conscious of when I tighten my left hand and either squeeze the neck, or support it on my thumb. I'm sure it's not intentional, but it helps me keep an eye on those bad habits we all try to avoid.

I would have liked to have the arms on the thing on the opposite sides (so that the upper arm on the player's left, so you don't get into bad habits in the thumb postions), but I knew that going in. I would also have liked to have at least the option of using power from an outlet, but since I'm using this mostly for a) more convenient size for travel and b) quiet compared to an acoustic, I don't actually use the battery much. Or the 'phones. No idea what the battery-life is like on it, but you might want to make sure you have extras if you're going to use it a lot through an amp, or something.

Too bad the Yamahas are so expensive, but if you're looking for a basic, portable, electric cello on a budget, this one will do the job.

It's a great set for a new player. Although the strings provided trouble for even an experienced player to tune and the small one broke when trying to fit it on the bridge for the first time while tuning. It's a great quality and I love how compact it is. The design turns heads.

As far as the ordering process it arrived as promised, no damage, and was up and running in about 10 minutes.

Other customers indicated the strings should be changed, so I got those as well. Had a rough time changing the first one by threading it through the fine tuner, so for the other three i popped out the metallic ring of the string and threaded it the other way, then put the ring on again it was much easier.

I didn't expect it to be the best quality as it was very low cost. But it is sturdy and has the expected sound. The half moon bar on the top was a bit loose and eventually ended up dropping the screws. I just replaced those with slightly longer screws and a bit of glue and it is playable again.

I have a small amp that I use occasionally and so never use the headphones. I still prefer the acoustic that I have but, it is great to be able to practice without bothering everyone else.

Biggest problem I had with this product was the sound from pick up. It is pretty week. Second issue was very hard to tune the Pegs. Fine tuners on bridge do not work well. Overall build quality is poor.

Got this for my hard-of-hearing dad last week. Easy to set up, easy to connect, lightweight and fairly easy to wear and turn on/off. The volume range is more than acceptable. My dad's hearing is pretty poor and he only needs to set the volume at about half of maximum. The only shortcoming is that the rechargeable battery pack which needed to be charged for 24 hours initially lasts for only about 90 minutes before needing to be charged for a few hours. I would suggest buying an aftermarket compatible battery pack (about $7.00 8.00 online) which can be charged in the receiver while another is in use with the headset. The receiver can actually charge two additional battery packs at a time, and more than one headphone set can be used with a single receiver if needed. All in all, this is a good option without a lot of wires for someone who needs a little hearing assistance.

We bought a set of TV Ears perhaps 7 years ago and they worked well. . . except for the ear pads/sponges that kept falling out and needing replacement. One set was sat on so we replaced it, but the new unit had static. We tried another with the same result. My husband always used Sennheiser mics and earphones in his work, so when I found a Sennheiser 'listening system' on Amazon I thought it might be better quality than TV Ears.

WOW.

We took them out of their packages, charged the batteries overnight, and put them on. We were hearing a fuller sound range than with the TV Ears. Just to test, we put the old TV Ears back on. No mistake, the Sennheisers were far superior in quality.

This is an elegant design and because the battery is in the unit there's no need for a charger with its irritating red lights next to the television as with TV Ears. The batteries seem to last about 8 hours or so. We haven't really measured the time because we never use them for that long at one sitting. We read the customer reviews suggesting a second set of batteries is needed so we bought two Sennheiser BA90 and everything works smoothly.

The Sennheiser TV listening system is a trouble-free piece of equipment. The battery is easily chargeable. An additional plus is that it works quite well in most theaters. This feature eliminates the need to borrow one from the theater management.

I have an old pair of Sennheiser headphones with an XLR jack. Great headphones, but not much use these days since almost nothing has a female XLR jack for headphones. Instead of hacking the headphone cable, I bought this as an adapter. It replaced an earlier purchase that was a one-piece metal adapter. While the first one worked pretty well, it was really long and stuck out from the headphone plug really far. It wasn't long before it had been bent from people running into it and one night, it fell completely apart, leaving half the plug in the headphone jack. After digging out the remnants, I decided to go with a flexible connector that didn't stick out really far and found this one. Good choice. I've been extremely happy with it.

At first glance, you think...'Dang, I'm going to be bustin' outs some awesome drum beats with these sticks.' Unfortunately that's not the case. Since each sound is produced with only 1 stick (either the left or the right) you can't get any rolling type sounds. You can actually bust out better beats tapping with your hands on a table or your lap. Also, the sound isn't produced by tapping the sticks on a surface. You have to actually air drum so your timing can be slightly off. It's like playing the drums on one of those a digital keyboards except you do a drumming motion instead of tapping a keyboard key.

Just bought these for my 4 year-old son at the Discovery Channel Store yesterday. We both had a hard time getting them to work in the store until the salesperson came over and told us you have to put all the movement in through your wrists. Guess what... it worked. Don't know why exactly, but if you try to air drum moving at the elbow or shoulder it won't activate the sticks. Once you get a hang of just using your wrists, it works great and is really a cool gadget.

We hooked it up to the iLit portable speakers we bought...really cool (the speakers change color with each new sound). Or you can just plug earphones or an ipod in, too.

I gave it a 4 instead of 5 stars because the wires are a little short and do get in the way a little if you're plugging into speakers. But, you get used to it. If your plugging into an ipod, then no problem as you can clip it to yourself.

So for all of you who couldn't get them to work and gave them a bad review, it was user error, not the drumsticks! If a 4 year-old can use them, anyone can!!!

We got the guitar too...cool, as well.

We gave these to our daughter for Christmas. She has not put them down! They sound awesome and she has so much fun with them. Her only issue is that when she lets someone else try them, they won't give them back!

She is fourteen, loves music, and dabbles with our real drumset, but the beauty of these are that no one else has to hear them.

We have not tried them on any other mp3 player, just her ipod, but we love them. Definitely worth the $30!

For an avid music fan, this is a real cool toy to play along with your favorite tunes. I am a big audiophile, but I couldn't complain too much about the sound quality of the drum sounds. They sound pretty good considering there really isn't much competition in the market for electronic drumsticks. If i had my way I would design a pair of sticks that simulated a real "hi-hat" sound instead of a ride cymbal sound, and I would also make the hi-hat sound the default sound on the right drumstick and make the ride cymbal and bass drum the two buttons on the right stick.

I would also like to be able to do a snare drumroll with both sticks, but currently due to the design, you can only make a snare sound with the left stick. I would probably add another button onto the right stick to be able to hit both sticks with the same snare sound. What would also be real nice is for the sticks to adjust volume based on how hard you hit the sticks. A lot of keyboards nowadays have that ability and it can really make a difference with drums, especially when doing a crescendo in a song or when drums are played quietly.

It takes some getting used to, but i feel like i'm a pro at drumming along with these sticks. I recommend this to anyone who listens to music while tapping on anything they can find. It is good for practicing rhythm as well and really can add a lot to your songs if you choose to record your work!

I got these for my boyfriend along with the iPod for Christmas and he absolutely loved them. He is a drummer by profession and he said that they were actually really fun to play with. Of course it doesn't sound like a real drum set, but the novelty of it is great! A fun product for the novice, a pro, or someone just wanting to have so fun!

When a master controller keyboard started to go flaky on me, I started looking for a replacement, and since I didn't REALLY need anything but a basic piano at this point (already having other keyboards that can serve this purpose), the focus was going to be on having 88 weighted keys, but being lightweight and portable. In the start of the 90s, stage pianos that remotely sounded like the real thing were becoming affordable, though hideously bulky and heavy. Let's just say they wouldn't fit in my car so easily, which leaves you reliant on the rest of the band for your transportation. End of the 90s, Korg was selling their 88 key Trinity keyboards, one of which I had the pleasure to lug around in my car for 10 years (it just barely fit!) but ultimately wore out because I couldn't get a case or even bag for it it was just too big. It still works but gets unpredictable when I move it, so I had to make the call, and buy a replacement.

I checked out some of the lower end piano models, Korg's P250, Roland RD700s, and Yamaha's P85 not only sounded much better, but was jaw-droppingly cheap. I find Roland's sound sweet but a bit muddy or saturated, the action was not bad. Korg's P250 sounds nice but I find their samples are compressed too much and the decay sounds unnaturally fast. Yamaha hit the sweet spot with their piano samples, granted there's only two sets of samples for piano, but they both sound absolutely brilliant (especially considering the cost of the keyboard). The expressiveness you get out of this instrument is amazing very careful attention to detail. (Compared to the 'honking' piano on the Korg Triton.) The key action is a bit heavier, I can see that I'll be doing scales for a month before I have the strength to really play that thing. That's ok, I'm still waiting for the stand anyways... Which brings me to :

(1) To incorporate built-in speakers, the bottom is not flat, it's basically a 'V'. It will not sit really stably in ANYTHING but the stand made for it. Handstands and other acrobatics are right out. So you basically are forced to buy the stand which sells for extra. Give me a break.

(2) There are no stage outs on this piano (if you want to use this piano in a band and hook it up to an amp and/or mixing board), you have to use the headphone jacks (!) VERY odd omission, instead of offering both analog and digital outs, Yamaha actually regresses and doesn't even have stage outs. Anyways, you have to get a cord that goes from stereo 1/4" (RTS) to two 1"4 jacks (very common cord BTW, your music store will have it), you can't just use a standard 1/4" jack because aspects of the piano signal are heavily panned and you get a weird phasey sound if you try to just take one side of the signal. And since it sticks out the front, you need a 1"4 right angle adapter to keep it out of harms way.

Apart from that, the piano sounds very crisp and convincing, some nice onboard effects to enhance this. But basically it's just a piano, not a workstation. Use it for one instrument at a time (you can layer the instruments but I couldn't find a single combination that sounded better than the individual instruments).

There are other sounds built into this, besides piano. There are two electric piano patches the first is a Fender Rhodes sound, with a DX-ey tinge to it, sounds beautifully full, if a bit tine-y. The second patch, kind of a Wurlitzer or (I guess) Yamaha CP type patch, is almost worth the price of the keyboard itself. Sounds very like Supertramp's keyboard sound, very expressive to play.

The organs are the worst of the samples. Honestly they couldn't find better organ patches than this, at least after the very high standard they established with the pianos? These sound like a circus calliope (E. Organ 1) and a bad Soundblaster pipe organ patch (E. Organ 2)! They are absolutely terrible, but if you really really need a calliope or pipe organ sound and not one of your instruments does that sound, you might use it.

The strings patch isn't bad, isn't noteworthy either. Definitely usable. I would have liked to be able to apply an (onboard) phaser effect to it for instance.

There are two harpsichord patches that are fairly high quality, better than the Korg Trinity's, anyways. Layering them sounds cheesy, but onboard compression might have helped. Workstations have me so spoiled...

The vibes patch is pretty good too, clear and bell-like. 'Tis purty.

All in all, this keyboard is an absolute steal at this price, once again the bar is raised in terms of quality and portability. You get bang-for-the-buck with this! It fits in the trunk of my car, just barely. Don't even have to put the back seats down! It loses 1/2 a star for the stand issue, the lack of even a proper set of analog outs, and the wretched organ samples.

Buy Yamaha P85 Digital Stage Piano (Black) Now

Pros:

1) Sounds like a Yamaha Grand Piano.

2) Touch/feels like a Yamaha Grand Piano

3) Considering the sound and the touch the price is unbelievable.

Cons:

1) It has 2 built-in speakers which leave a LOT to be desired. The guy at the music store handed me a pair of Yamaha headphones the difference in the sound quality was incredible.

2) He also recommended a Z stand for it which sells for 49 bucks. It is more stable that the standard X stand.

3) It comes with a really cheap sustain pedal. Amazon is showing a good option in the "Customers who bought this item also bought" M-Audio SP-2 US65010 $25 pedal.

4) And finally, I'm with the reviewer that said, "Where are my stage outs?" especially when you consider the quality of the onboard speakers.

I gave it 5 stars anyway, between the 2 of us it should get 4 1/2 stars.

Read Best Reviews of Yamaha P85 Digital Stage Piano (Black) Here

The Yamaha P-85 is well-designed digital piano with the full 88 keys at a price point that is hard to beat. 10 different voices are included, which can also be layered in many different ways (e.g., octave-shifted). The grand piano voices and the first electric organ are in stereo (and there are two stereo headphone jacks at the front of the device) and sound absolutely amazing. Multisampling is used, and the samples are blended expertly, so there isn't that jarring effect where suddenly a completely different sample is played when you hit a key a little harder, as I noticed on the Casio PX-320. Polyphony on the P-85 is sufficient that dropped notes should not be noticeable. Reverb can be added to the voices to simulate small rooms (or concert halls), and there is a built-in very basic MIDI recorder.

The P-85 looks very stylish and has a solid, well-made overall feel to it. Although the keys are weighted, the instrument is remarkably slim and lightweight. In fact, the instrument looks serious enough (in the black version) that many of the higher-priced Yamahas and Casios seem pretty toy-like next to it, with their little LCD screens and all.

I think the included sustain pedal is mainly a friendly gesture by Yamaha towards parents: You don't want a Christmas morning to go sour because Santa forgot to buy a pedal! In this regard Yamaha is much smarter than Casio, where some digital keyboards don't even include a power adaptor. Third party gear such as the M-Audio SP-2 Pedal goes very well with the Yamaha.

All in all, the Yamaha P-85 looks and sounds great, is a joy to play, and has all the basics for piano playing covered, as well as some advanced features like voice layering. The quality, convenience (headphone jacks, easy recordings), and price of the P-85 make it pretty hard to fathom why anyone would bother with the hassle of a real grand or upright piano anymore. But I suppose the flower vase has to go somewhere...

Want Yamaha P85 Digital Stage Piano (Black) Discount?

I purchased the P85 to learn the piano after stopping for 15 years. I picked the P85 because it was affordable, it would fit in an apartment with limited space, and it was the best sounding digital piano for the price. I've had the chance to try this piano against an upright acoustic and a grand piano, and while there are differences, it isn't difficult to transfer skills between them.

[+] good [-] bad [*] different than acoustic piano

THE SOUND

[+] Piano voices sound realistic. Each note is beautifully distinctive, and never goes out of tune

[+] Better with headphones. The richness of the notes is even better when listening through a good set of headphones

[-] Other voices are worthless. The recordings for the other instrument choices sound toy-like compared to the high quality of the piano recordings. It feels like you are playing with MIDIs when you use the other voices.

[-] Speakers lack power. The speakers are not good enough to reproduce the sounds of the original recordings.

[*] Max volume is softer than an acoustic piano. It is easy to get into the habit of hammering the P85 keys because the digital records will still sound good, and it never gets too loud. But when switching to an acoustic, the same banging will sound ugly.

[*] The sustain is shorter when holding the pedal. Since the digital notes don't interact with each other, you can continuously hold the pedal, and each new note you play can still be heard clearly. For acoustic pianos, the sustain is longer and the new notes jumble together with the previous notes creating a muddled wall of noise.

THE FEEL

[+] The keys have a nice weight to them which transfers almost exactly to the skills needed for an acoustic piano

[+] The size of the keys also transfers nicely to an acoustic piano

[-] The pedal is too small to use. Fortunately, better petals are available, and not expensive.

[*] The keys of the P85 were heavier than the upright acoustic I used, and similar to the grand piano. You will get stronger fingers playing the p85. I found I could play the upright better after spending some time with the P85, but that it took longer to transition back to the p85 after a few weeks with the acoustic.

THE FEATURES

[+] Ready to go. You can turn on the piano and start playing within a few seconds. There is no need to fiddle with setting as everything is optimally set as defaults.

[-] The metronome is one of the most annoying features of this piano. There is a left and right button which changes the speed of the metronome, but each time you press it, it seems to double the speed. So it is always too fast or too slow. And it has an extra bell that signifies the start of a bar in 4/4 time. In order to change the time signature or get a more precise speed, you need to hold down the metronome button and press a specific note on the keyboard. Which requires having the manual on you at all times. An extra button to control the time signature, and easier control over the metronome speed would have been ideal.

THE SETUP

[+] Lightweight. It is easy to pick up and move, and the small profile makes it less awkward to carry.

[+] Stable. It sits firmly on a z-stand, and I've never had a problem with it shifting while playing.

OVERALL

The P85 makes piano playing addictive because it sounds so good, but can lead to bad habits with how loud to play, and how long to hold the pedal. However the fundamentals of how to play transfer very well from the P85 to an acoustic piano. You can also play at any time of day or night without bothering others because of the headphones option. The P85 is a joy to play, and I highly recommend it.

This keyboard is a very good deal for the price!

Pros:

The touch is almost like a real piano. They feel like the keys on a piano and respond quickly when pressed. However, you can still slightly feel the mechanicalness when you carefully push down and observe. Most people won't notice though, so this is not a problem at all.

The sound is great overall! The sampled sound of the keyboard sounds real, too.

The keyboard easily connected via MIDI to my Mac (Leopard) and works smoothly with Garageband, which I use to compose.

The 50 preset songs (Liebestraum, Moonlight Sonata, Pathetique, Maple Leaf Rag, etc.) are also nice to listen to. They are some of the best interpreted pieces I have ever heard! It's like having a free CD that you can listen to!

The keyboard is pretty flexible, as you can change the amount of reverb/echo, change the touch sensitivity, and transpose what you play into another key. I use some of these features often they are really handy!

The model has all the basic features you probably need. A built in metronome, and a recording feature are included.

Cons:

Only ten instrument voices. I don't mind this but people who need more voices should consider another model.

The bass is a bit heavy compared to the treble. It may seem a bit louder and more noticeable than an actual acoustic piano.

The general sustain is a bit too short, both with and without pedal. I have the optional three-pedal unit, but the sustain is still too short. After awhile, I didn't notice, but once you sit in front of a real acoustic piano, you'll know the difference.

Overall, this is one of the best pianos you get get for the price. Once you have a good pair of speakers or earphones, this keyboard will sound very nice. However, if you are considering this as your primary instrument, I'd recommend an actual acoustic piano to this.

This is a cool karaoke machine, it has the wireless headphones that you plug in, the only thing I personally don't like is that you have to have batteries to run the headphones. So I am going to purchase a diffrent microphone for it. It has a larger jack for the microphone like one you would use to plug into a Pa system.

you have to buy the CD& graphics CD's if you want to see the words and sing along with it. But you can also just play any cd and raise the voice control and sing with it.

when you do that the music kind of get's a little lower but if your using this just for recreation then it's ok.

This one does not cancel out the vocals on cd's.

Either Rolls changed their mechanical design on the bracket, or the headphone amps. Out of four PM50s headphone amps, the bracket directly fit only two. Two brackets lined up correctly on two headphone amps. The other two brackets had only one hole in alignment. The bracket holds the headphone amp, but with only one screw. I will have to modify the bracket to add another screw for extra stability.

Rolls clearly thought a good deal about this design. The mounting holes for your device are down further on the plate (below the label) to ensure that there is plenty of room for the cables that attach to the back of your device. The mounting screw is set up for the thinner part of most microphone stands, as that's likely the spot that your hand is able to reach most easily. I know some have complained about this feature, and I was at first a little annoyed that it wouldn't mount to the larger diameter barrel, but I use my Rolls PM351 every week and I can't play my instrument and make adjustments without this bracket being on the upper barrel. Great product!

I used this to attach my Rolls PM50S Personal Monitor Amplifier System to a mic or cymbal stand for live uses. The only small issue I have is the mounting hole in the back is too small to fit any stand except the top small pipe of a mic stand. It is hard steel so I had to use a pair of vise grips to open it wide enough to fit a wider stand.

Didn't even use it that much and both the male and female connections lost connectivity. The cable feels good and decent like it won't become stiff overtime so I might use it to make a new one. The 12 foot cable still works though and I use it for my speakers.

I bought this for the right angle extension as my laptop's audio out sits near a wall. I didn't want a straight cable cause I didn't want to add any stress to an audio cable from bending. The right angle adapter should've worked great but it's such a cheaply made cable that there's tons of noise that makes the cable unusable. The 12 ft extra cable however is pretty nice which raises this review to two stars.

I live in an efficiency apartment building. I couldn't believe the difference it made in my environment to use headphones exclusively. I needed to run a cable back to my chair from the shelf stereo to use with earbuds because the noise was driving me crazy. Now all I need to do is figure out how to stabilize the climate control unit.

These are ok. Are only worth about $15. They skip alot while playing music, but pausing and unpausing fixes that. Alot of static on calls. Will freeze alot and have to charge them to unfreeze them.

I just received my headphones and I must say I'm impressed. They are real nice but you can tell they are cheaply made. The headphones have a automatic voice to tell you what mode you are in. Which is real nice. The connectivity drops at times but for the most part it does it's job.I would recommend these for anyone who isn't trying to pay outrageous prices for a set of headphones. Would I buy them again? Absolutely....

I love my headphones, they are convenient and comfortable. Unfortunately, they are also small and fragile, and the left speaker does not work very well. I still love them.

3 days out of the box, there was a short in the left ear muff. A week later, went to put them on and the band broke. When they worked...they sounded good.
