First, some background:

I have been listening to In Ear Monitors for at least 8 years now, since I purchased my first pair of Etymotics to accompany my first iPod back when they were the only game in town for IEM's. In many ways those Ety's are still my reference for everything else, even my collection of full sized headphones. Having owned an iPhone for a couple of years now, I have been on the lookout for a decent IEM with an elegantly paired mic and controls to replace Apple's own limited offering. This segment has really bloomed in the last 6 months, and I finally decided it was time to try some of the offerings out. I was very fortunate to come across a shop recently that had a large number of these sets in stock, with demo units, with a full selection of new ear tips of different sizes and materials to demo! They did not have the Ety HF2, which was ok, because I had largely ruled that model out anyhow due to the lack of volume controls, and due to the micro-phonics that my ER-4p's are prone to. Obviously this is a problem with all IEM's, but I find the problem to be worse with Ety's and I had hopes of being able to use these for some activity. The three models I focused my test on were the Klipsch Image S4i, the Monster Beats Tour, and the Shure SE115m+ (the subject of this review, and the model that I ultimately purchased). I found the Klipsch's to be rather boomy and the quality to be sub-par. I could have lived with the sound for my uses, and the mic/controls were very small and light which was a benefit, but in general the build quality had more in common with $20 ear buds than their $100 price tag. At $50-$60 they would have been a winner for me. The Beats were interesting. Nice build quality, using a unique flat cord, but again, clearly boomy and not particularly detailed. The bigger problems were the price, and the extreme sensitivity to ear position. Very slight movements ruined the noise isolation (which wasn't that good at best) and the sound entirely. No way that was going to work for any active use.

So, on to the Shure's:

These have the best sound isolation, and the best sound of any in the group. They don't stand up to the Ety's in either department, but they are far less microphonic, and that 'warm' description they use to describe them is dead-on. Compared to the Ety's the Shure's are missing all of the detail, but make up for that in a full, easy to listen to sound, without being overly bass-heavy or obviously accentuated in any manner. On Norah Jones' 'Come Away With Me' the Shure's were easily out-classed by the Ety's. Norah's somewhat nasal (only in the best way!) croon is as clear as if you were in the studio and she was singing to YOU. With the Shure's it's as if a layer of velvet has been placed over the microphone. She's obviously in the studio, and maybe, at best, you're at the mixer behind the glass. In comparison, on Elvis Perkins' 'While You Were Sleeping' and 'Moon Woman 2,' the Shure's compared much better. Their warmth appeared in this context as a full-ness of sound, rather than strictly as a veil. Bass-lines were much easier to follow, treble more mellow and easy going; the Ety's came across as detailed but flat in this comparison. Perhaps more accurate, but more fatiguing and less fun.

Microphone, iPhone controls, and conclusion:

I have not yet had the opportunity to use the microphone in a variety of situations (nor was I able to use the microphone on the models in comparison at all). That said, callers have yet to complain that they can't hear me, even in a loud airport environment, or of any sound issues at all. The size of the mic is a little bit excessive, and could have been placed a couple of inches lower than it hangs when worn with the wires hanging over the ears as recommended. Finding the controls by touch is not as easy as it could be. Otherwise, the controls work as expected. Volume up/down, center button to play/pause, answer/end a call, double-click to skip a song, triple-skip to skip backwards a song. It all works as it should. (I should note that despite its size, I find the mic on this model to be less bothersome than the adapter at the V on the standard SE115 model for adding the Music Phone Adapter, so keep that in mind if you are comparing this to the mic-less version). The cords have just enough weight to feel durable and built properly for the price point. They are far less microphonic than the cord on my Ety's, and don't hold their rolled shape as badly when removing them from their case.

Overall, in my comparison of these against my Ety's, I kept wishing that I could have the warmth of the Shure's with the vocal clarity provided by the Ety's. However, given the available options in this segment, I feel that the SE115m+ is a worthwhile contender. If Shure would reduce the size of the mic and controls by 1/2, fine tune its placement, and make it available on their higher-end models, we'd have a class leader. As it stands, this is still a worthy effort by Shure, and I'm certain these will be seeing a heavy rotation in my music listening. I'd give them a solid 3.5 stars if Amazon allowed such a rating.

I bought these to replace my venerable E2C's I've used for years with iPods. I got an HTC Incredible and wanted a microphone. I looked at many and decided on these not sure how the mic/buttons would work on a NON iPhone/iPod. Well, everything works except volumn up/down. I can answer the phone, hang up, one click. I can index forward songs, double click, or index back, triple click. With music playing, I can pause, single click, or restart, another single click. With music playing, a phone call comes in, music pauses, a single click answers, another single click hangs up, music starts back up. The mic works great even riding my bicycle at 17 mph! Minimal wind noise. And here's the real bonus, these sound wonderful, better than my E2's, and the form inserts are way better than the orange foamies of the E2 These foamies are black, have a smooth surface where the ear wax doesn't stick like the E2 foamies stick, are softer making for a better seal, and I can just shove 'em in, no rolling to compress, and get a great seal, the trick to good sound 'specially bass. I bought a cheaper brand of buds and although they worked the same, the sound was AWFUL, and I mean AWFUL. These SE115m+ buds sound fantastic, good bass but not boomy, great mids and highs. Best buds I've tried in the lower end of the price spectrum (well, maybe not LOWER, LOWER!). Great value. I use 'em every day bicycle riding.

Though the 115m+ is really designed for the iPhone (the volume control buttons doesn't work with the BB), it works fine as headphones for just about anything with a standard 3.5mm jack. The middle button does work with the BB 9700. One click either answers/disconnects a call or toggles between play/pause.

Comfort is pretty good even after long term use. I managed to sleep with these in my ears inflight; no problem 7 hours later. After the 12 hour mark, my ears did hurt a bit.

Occasionally I fought with the cord to get it wrap around the top of my ear. Not a big issue.

Noise isolation seems to be somewhat better than the Bose QC headsets (I've used them all). It works so well, I kept on taking the earbuds out to talk to people.

The audio playback quality is pretty good, but I'm no audiophile. Didn't really notice any distortion, even a higher volumes. Speakers handle bass boost pretty well (if that's your thing), but the highs seem a bit cut off. With MP3s and phones calls, it won't matter much.

The microphone works pretty well. Had a few short conversations; even in noisy environments the other party could hear me clearly.

Carrying case is a nice touch. The case comes with a clip so you can attach to any loop. A cord management system with the case would have been better.

Overall: a decent choice if you like fitted earbuds for noise isolation and want something very small/lightweight to go with your phone.

My old Shure E2c earphones finally gave up the fight after 3 yrs. I can't speak highly enough of those so I wanted to go with Shure again but they were not stocked at my local "yellow tag" store. I bought some Etymotic earphones that were in stock and they sounded flat and lifeless so I returned them. Ordered these from Amazon and couldn't be happier. They sound good out of the box with plenty of bass. For my taste though I adjusted my EQ settings on my iphone4 to make them more "crisp". The "electronic" setting in the EQ seems just right to me. The volume/play buttons work great and keep me from having to reach into my jacket when skiing. I'm told the mic sounds good to people I call, and the build quality actually seems to have improved over my last Shure earphones. All of the buttons work seamlessly with an iphone 4.

One thing I might mention as others have is that fit is critical. These are supposed to go deep into your ear or they won't sound good. Experiment with the different adapters and wear them for awhile to see if they are comfortable. You can't just stick them in for the first time and make a snap judgement. Trust me, they take getting used to and are awkward and annoying for the first time user, but stick with it because the sound isolation (i laugh at crying babies on the airplane) and sound quality are far superior to anything else.

PS I only gave these a 4 star because I am not a fan of the 5 star system. A 5 would have to be a perfect product and I can't judge that for at least a year with any product. On a 1-10 scale I would give these a 9 out of 10 though as they seem nearly perfect at the moment.

***Update 11/8/11***

It's been nearly a year since I purchased this headset. While my first impressions of these still holds true, I have upgraded my rating from 4 stars to 5 stars. This is based on durability and quality construction. The headset has held up flawlessly as one should expect out of a higher end set such as these. But last week this set survived a trip through the washing machine followed by a trip through the dryer on high heat. I was bummed and expecting the worst, but I plugged them in and they worked perfectly! Only cleaner! Not only did the headset retain the sound quality, but the mic and sound controls worked perfectly too. I thought for sure the controls would have been toast but no problems. Gotta love the Shure Headsets!

I bought these headphones 6 months ago as replacements for my Shure E2c model phones (purchased in 2005). I thought I had lost my E2cs, so I purchased these (I found my E2cs a few months later in a coat pocket).

So, I will compare these to the e2c model directly. The price point is about the same, at least the 2005 price of the E2cs was similar to the 2010 price of the SE115m+. So, when I purchased the se115m+ I expected to get similar sound, and it is very close although they each have slightly different character. It looks like the E2c are now available for around $200 and they look similar to the E2cs I own (the plastic color is different).

The most obvious difference is remote on the SE115m+ cord, which is extremely convenient and a huge benefit over the E2c model. The remote works just like the apple headphones, click the middle button to play/pause, double click for next song, triple click for previous song (on supported devices such as iPod touch and iPhone and perhaps others). Use the up and down buttons for volume. The middle button can also be used for phone calls, such as to end a call. The SE115m+ is available without the remote for those who do not need it (model SE115).

Although the se115m+ is missing something on the cord -I wish the se115m+ cord had the sliding coupler like the E2c, that makes it easy to tighten the cord under your chin so the cord does not push the phones around, particularly useful if you're wearing a coat.

Sound

E2c

bright (but not overly bright)

open sound stage

very detailed

SE115m+

impressive bass for in-ear

tight sound control

detailed

Firstly, I like both headphones a lot, although I slightly prefer the sound of the E2c phones. They're more musical, slightly better balanced and more detailed. The SE115m+ are still high on detail, but are little more reserved, slight tighter sounding and have a bit more bass. If you really like a lot of bass, you will not like the E2c, but the SE115m+ might be satisfactory considering their other benefit (the remote).

If you like to skip songs a lot, or want to be able to answer phone calls while listening to music, the SE115m+ is going to deliver. They still sound great and you get the bonus of the remote. If you mostly listen to albums start to finish and don't plan to answer a lot of calls with the phones then you're probably better off with E2cs in this comparison, assuming you prefer the sound profile I described above.

With that said, you should also consider some of the newer Shure models since they may outperform the E2c model. You should also consider the SE210m+ if you really want the remote. From their specs, I would also assume they have slightly less bass than the SE115m+.

I did a lot of research leading up to my purchase of the Shure SE310's. I had high hopes when I listened to them for the first time. But they seemed to be lacking in the bass department. Other than that they had really clean audio and sounded spectacular. Upon researching why they lacked bass, I discovered many peoples' claim of a break in period before the earbuds got loosened up and provided more bass. And over time I have noticed this to be true to a certain extent. I had an old pair of $40 Sony sound isolating earbuds which had a ton of bass, and when I first listened to the Shure's I thought they sounded weak, but now after listening to the SE310's for about a month, I can say they definitely sound better than the Sony's. Though the cheaper Sony's have a little more bass, it sounds boomy and tends to cover over the detail of other instruments, whereas the Shure's are crystal clear and the bass is very defined. One of the best things about the SE310's is their ability to block out external sound. I'm a college student and at one of our basketball games I decided to take my earbuds and see how well they blocked out sound. It was just before the game with the entire gymnasium going nuts and the band playing very loudly. I put the earbuds in and I could still comfortably listen at the levels I normally listen to, which isn't very loud by any means (I value my hearing. I have my Creative Zen Vision:M volume at 10 out of 25). They also work great when I'm trying to get work done and lots of things are going on around me. Very often I can be in my room with these things in my ears and people will come in and talk to me and I won't hear them at all. That's how good they work. Obviously it is very important that you find the right earpieces that give a good seal in your ear. I would recommend these to anyone who wants very high audio clarity. Though I would prefer a little bit more bass at lower volumes, when you turn them up they really produce. And I can't complain too much because they are meant to have a flat frequency response, so your best bet is to raise your EQ's lower frequencies a little bit and turn on the bass boost (assuming your mp3 player or sound source has these options). They come with a semi-hard zipper case to store them in as well as multiple sets of ear pieces and a wax cleaning tool. They are well worth the price tag, and I would gladly recommend them to anyone.

I purchased these for use with my Apple Macbook Pro laptop. I will say in one word AMAZING!

These noise isolation earplugs ISOLATE. They seem as effective as the foam earplugs I used to wear at a large manufacturing facility where I worked. I mean they seal up TIGHT and cut HUGE decibels of outside noise.

As far as sound there seems to be any number of "Audiophiles" in this world each with their own opions of all earphones past, present, and future. I am not an "Audiophile". I am a geek a computer user who enjoys listening to MP3's, or perhaps something from iTunes. I might decide to watch a DVD movie, or play (HORRORS!) a computer game.

Do you know what?

These ear phones are MOST EXCELLENT for any or all of these things.

Treble is clear and crisp rings like a bell. Bass is deep and vibrant. At 1/2 volume on my Macbook Pro I could FEEL the sound literally in my bones, all the way to my feet. People who have said you need a 2 or 3 driver earphone to deliver good Bass response are out of their minds! These sound better than the 12 inch Cerwin Vegas I have hooked up to my Mitsubishi big screen in terms of Bass response. I would dare say you would have to have at least a $2000 set of home stereo speakers to equal the sound output and quality of these inexpensive headphones.

They are THAT GOOD.

If you want to pay more for earphones by all means do so. If you have some type of hyper sonic hearing and are playing with uber-superduper sampled audio and wish to hear the fly landing on the left cymbal during William Tells overture perhaps something MAYBE will deliver SLIGHTLY more response for you delicate audio orifice.

But for the rest of us who listen to MP3 watch DVD movies and play games THESE ARE ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. I mean they are MAC DADDY MONSTER ear phones.

I have NO COMPLAINTS whatsoever.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I once owned a pair of these earphones the bass is great and you get a great sound. You also won't hear anything else in the room while music is playing. Unfortunatley they are very delicate. To give us a high quality sound shure gives us high quality wiresmade of gold. Gold is a lot softer than your average earphone cable, so they damage easily. Mine lasted 6 months.

This was my third pair of Shure headphones in three years. As much as I like the sound quality and the noise isolation they provide, I have to find a more reliable product. The Shures wear out very quickly. This time the right earphone stopped working in the middle of a workout. The other two developed a short in the wiring behind the earphone. I got lucky a couple of times when the short occurred in the extension piece that was only $30 to replace and I did not have to buy a whole new set. When these headphones work, the sound quality is great. But they don't work for long and, apart from the extension wires, they are not inexpensive to replace. All total, in three years I have spent almost $800 on Shure Earphones, but have finally decided to kick the habit.

When would you pay 99 bucks for a guitar cable? When it lets you plug into your computer, has its own volume control and headphone jack, and comes with a boatload of killer apps and jam loops. AmpliTube 2 Live alone is worth the price of admission, with its SpeedTrainer, tuner, and models of amps, cabinets, mics, and stomp boxes. I purchased from IK Multimedia directly through Amazon.

I wanted a basic PC setup to record on so I could get a clear recording through direct input rather than picking up sound via camera. Read a lot of review for a lot of different products and for this one as well. Several seemed comparable, none seemed perfect, but a few youTube reviews on this and the majority of the reviews on this were positive so I decided to go for it since I liked how it worked, it's styling, etc. This plugs directly in to your guitar/effect processor on one end and directly in to your USB port on the other. In order to hear what you are playing you have to plug in to the headphone jack on the unit (you can't hear what's coming out from your PC, you plug in a pair of headphones or speakers into the audio out port to listen).

One of the biggest issues in the reviews was of this having issues on Window's machines. I'm running Windows 7. I read the quick install guide, loaded the CD, ran the install, and plugged it in to my PC and guitar. I got static and odd input noise from my guitar, but definately not clean sound.

I went online to the Ik Multimedia website, noticed they had a Windows driver update. Installed the update, unplugged the StealthPlug from my PC, plugged it back in, worked like a charm. So the entire install took me only about 15-20 minutes to get it working.

The CS version means this comes with AmpliTude CS software (CS stands for Custom Shop). It's basically an effects processor for your PC (I also have a Boss GT-8 processor) so if you don't currently have an effects processor/foot pedals/etc then this software has more than enough to get some good effects already built in (delay, distortion, chorus, reverb, different amps, different heads, etc). Plus you get credits for the AmpliTude website to get a couple of extra ones of your choosing (if you want more effects after you use your free credits you can purchase more credits for more effects to download).

The packaging on this says it comes with AmpliTude 2.0 but after I installed and registered the StealthPlug on Ik Multimedia's website, it actually gave me the most recent version of Amplitude plus a few other of their effects software packages so that was nice that I didn't get stuck with outdated software.

All-in-all it plugged in and set up with very little hassle. Seems to be a decent direct guitar to PC setup on a budget and comes with some cool effects software which is great if you're someone that doesn't have a lot of pedals or an actual physical processor.

Now all you need is some recording software (I'm going to try Reaper) and you'll be making videos in no time.

WARNING! There has been an important change in the specs!

The newer GK MB200s no longer have 1/4" speaker outs.

There is an addendum included with the manual that states that the amp speaker out now only allows the use of Speakon connectors.

Be careful when ordering one to get the proper cable or adapter for your cab.

I wish I had known that when ordering mine, so I would have ordered a speakon cable or a speakon to 1/4" female adapter along.

One star off for the inconvenience and for no longer having the Speakon 1/4" speaker out combo.

Besides that issue, I am very pleased with the extremely light weight and appearance of the amp and am eager to be able to play it.

I've been an electric and upright bass player for over 15 years, and have been gigging regularly for the past 10 or so.

I hate hauling heavy gear.

I absolutely hate it. I build my own cabinets so I can shave pounds off of my load-in. I run with the smallest possible rig that I can get away with for any given show.

Because of that I've been watching the ultra-light part of the amp market for quite awhile now, waiting for good Class-D amps to make their way into the live audio segment at reasonable prices.

My last lightweight amp was a Crate Powerblock, 150w @4ohms and at least 4 times the weight of this one. Only problem with it is that it's a guitar amp, so it goes into overdrive when you turn the gain up past about 12 o'clock. It served my needs for gigs where I had a good PA and just needed my amp for on-stage monitoring, but I still had to haul a big (50lb) old school 350w head for most gigs without a PA.

I tried a Bose Packlite A1 power amp, but it didn't have the oomph despite allegedly being rated at 250w.

I call BS on those specs, the Crate was louder at it's 150w.

This MB200 though is freaking awesome.

Designed for bass, 200W of CLEAN power in a tiny package, and it doesn't cost a fortune like the EA mini or micro series, Walter Woods stuff, or Genz Benz shuttles. I generally run it off my Fishman platinum pre-amp just so I have tonal control easily at hand, but I'm starting to consider leaving that at home as well. The EQ on the MB200 is very solid, it's got an XLR output with switchable pre/post output, and Speakon or quarter inch power outputs.

It fits in the pouch of my upright bass bag and can serve as my primary amp for any gig I play that doesn't have PA support, and doesn't break the bank at just over a buck a watt.

What's not to love?

Get one now.

I have both the MB200 and the MB500 Fusion amps. I bought the MB200 as a backup for the MB500. (I NEVER go to a gig without a backup amp). Strangely, I use the MB200 more than the MB500. I use it with two 2 x 10 cabs (thus 4 ohm) and it has more than enough power to compete with my large 6 piece band. Simple tone controls , just a tweak of low bass and you have the perfect sound. (BTW, I also prefer it over my previous main Markbass F1 and LMII heads). If you like the GK sound, you'll love this little amp.

Playing through a 1x15 Altec-Lansing 421B mounted in a G-K Backline cab, the sound reproduction through this mighty midget is powerful, precise, and punchy. My flatwound P-bass, with the contour on, sounds like an old school juke box; fat, full, and in your face. My "boutique" 4 string active-passive sings with articulation and resonance, and the Schecter 5 string sounds growly and full. It handles the low B effortlessly, with no dips or peaks throughout the full range of notes. It's loud enough to use in small outdoor venues without having to go through the front system, and works well in dance club settings.

The only problem I had was keeping the amp from vibrating off the speaker cab, but this was solved by putting it on a small bath towel. It's not just an amp, it's an extension of my instrument, and responds to the most subtle nuances, yet pushes like a diesel when the music calls for power and drive. I like it!Gallien-Krueger MB200 200W Ultra Light Bass Amplifier

I've always owned two bass heads so I'd have a backup.

Recently, I acquired a somewhat capable combo, so felt it was time to ditch the spare head.

This plan was a dumb idea, since hauling around a large combo with my rig, was not practical. I needed something small; like a doughnut spare tire that most cars have. It didn't have to be as capable as my main bass head, but had to be just enough to get me through any gig.

Enter the GK MB200

PROS:

-This amp is tiny, light, and will fit into the pocket of most gig bags.

-The tone is what floored me. It has an aggressive, punchy, tight sound that makes my main head seem ho hum.

-I'm in a KISS tribute band. This little amp got me easily through a gig when my main amp started having issues. It had plenty of juice, nicely powered one of my cabs, and I occasionally use it at rehearsals now.

-The EQ is simple, and easy to dial in on the fly.

-The price is right for a quality piece of gear.

-The fan is quiet.

CONS:

-Speakon is the only speaker output on this amp. My main amp has banana jack and ¼".

-My main amp has an efx loop that I use with my rack tuner for muted tuning. This amp just has line out and a return, but the return is 1/8" jack.

-The power cord that it came with didn't securely seat into the amp's electrical socket. I swapped out the cord, and no further issues.

-If you're one of those who likes parametric EQ's, this amp may be too simple for your taste.

-It can really only power one of my 410 cabs. My main amp can power both.

-The biggest advantage and disadvantage this amp has is its size. While small, light, and easy to transport, it can also be easily stolen at a gig. However, if rack ears are purchased, it can be racked. A nice idea, but placing this amp in a bulky rack defeats the purpose of owning a micro head.

I'm happy with my new spare amp. It gives me exactly what I need, and it is way more powerful than I anticipated. I am so impressed that I plan swapping out my main amp with the MB200's 800 watt big brother.

So I got these the other day because I'm in college and needed an affordable DJ headset for mixing at parties and such. After looking through a ton of reviews of different products and all of the ones on these headphones, (the different color ones have reviews, this one just hasn't had any yet), I decided to go with these.

Pros:

-Good overall sound quality, no apparent distortion

-Really cool look

-Well built, pretty flexible

-Comes with 2, 1/4 inch adapters, one of them being a 90 degree angle, and a nice bag for the headphones

-Long, but not obnoxious cord length

-Great price

Cons:

-These WILL hurt your head after about 20 minutes, when they say DJ headphones, stick to DJing with them. I DJed 2 party's this week and they were fine for that because they are on and off your head most of the time (one on ear, one off). I tried using them to produce in FL 10 and I had to constantly take them off to avoid a headache.

-I noticed after a decently long period of time, the cushions got a little sweaty (granted it was really hot in the room), but still something to make note of.

-Sound cancellation was okkkaayyyyy, if that's really what you are looking for then these aren't for you.

-One last thing, one of the reasons I got the neon green was because I thought that it would glow under black light. It kinda doesn't really...the stitching on top does, but the green plastic itself does not, just something to keep in mind as well.

Overall, if you simply want a pair of headphones to DJ with at an affordable price these are great. If you are looking to do anything else with them, look somewhere else.

Only 1 side of the headphones were working when i ordered a used pair of these, You get what you pay for, ended up returning them, getting full refund with no problem and ordered a new pair that work great now. These headphones are awesome once you get a working pair. Exactly like the HP 700 but cheaper and better style!

American Audio makes pretty decent stuff. most of it is a copy of Pioneer's more expensive products. but my experience has been that they are fairly durable and work to expectations. the last pair of headphones I owned were American audio and they lasted me 4 years before finally breaking at the swivel joint at one of my gigs. It wasn't too disappointing though because I'd already beat the ever loving crap out of them before that. if you take care of these they may just last you a lifetime. word of advice though, if you feel a little ambitious you can replace the headphone jack with a gold plated heavy duty one from radio shack. the aluminum plating on the factory plug tends to where off after about a year of use and can cause one side or both to stop working. Easy fix for someone who can solder like myself. well worth the amount of money spent though. Love the green so thats what I went with. its nice and bright! does not glow under black light like some people might have though. I wouldn't expect it too though, this isn't phosphorescent coloring.

These headphones are bass monsters, but are about as lo-fi as you can get. There is very little clarity, detail, or soundstage to them, and they are probably the worst sounding of the 12 or so pairs of headphones I currently own. I can only describe their sound as hollow and flat in the high and midrange (bordering on monotone), which is lost behind buckets of bloated bass. Now, I will say that the sub and mid bass response is pretty incredible when properly amplified, and doesn't distort easily, making them an ok choice for some electronic music without vocals.

The build quality is fairly solid, but the finish is a bit sloppy, and the first pair I received arrived with a defective mini plug.

I would return these headphones, but I got them practically free on a lightning deal with a promo credit. So, I keep these for when my friend's kid needs something to use with her iPad, or any other scenario in which I don't want to risk harm coming to a better pair.

I will say that these do improve a fair amount with burn-in, and I can't comment on how well they work for DJ'ing because I do not use them for that purpose. I have heard that DJ's sometimes montior their mixes in monotone, and perhaps that is exactly what these headphones are trying to accomplish. They might be great for DJ'ing I wouldn't know. I will tell you these are not good at all for casual listening. To give you an idea of my preferred sound signature, I listen primary at home with a tube amp, cmoy, or E11, and my favorite pairs of headphones are neutral and analytical, like my MDR-V6's, and AKG Q701's.

I give these 2 stars for the price I paid ($5.71), and because they function, and have good bass. The current asking price of $50 is about 4 times what they are worth, and had I paid that much they would've gotten 1 star and a return label. For recreational listening you can get a far better pair for $20, and I do not recommend these for that purpose.

I bought one of these stands from K&M and I must say it is a great product. It's sturdy, let me put the ipad in vertical and horizontal position without having to unscrew anything and the stand holds the device very well.

I have been using it for several months already together with a software called OnSong in order to keep my songs in one place to play at church services.

Very happy with the product. It just work with the Ipad 1. I'm hoping that K&M will release a similar product for the Ipad 2.

I searched and searched, and then decided on these. I own a live sound & recording production company and I have to always produce professional sound and LOOK professional as well. I made the best choice in iPad mounts. I have two of them from K&M, Back-to-Back, on a heavy based microphone stand. They are great looking, solid, tilt and swing to any position. I get remarks like, "Hey, those are so cool" all the time. Musicians love them for song lyrics when used with an iPad Ap that allows them to control their own sound monitor/wedge right from the stage to my digital mixer elsewhere, leaving me free to do other tasks as the engineer. I had heard of these and have been wanting them for some time now. I am thrilled with them. Wish I had purchased them long ago. I have also used them for Karaoke song selection. No physical books needed that are all warn out and difficult to read....and ALL because of the: K&M Stands iPad Holder for iPad 2nd, 3rd and 4th Generation 19722. They are just perfect for ANY application. I highly recommend them to anyone who doesn't want to hold an iPad in their hands or lap. You can also use them (for another example) as your Kindle reader holder (an Ap for iPad)...just set it on a mic stand (or other) and place it right next to your chair or bed. Trust me, you'll be thanking me....and K&M, too.

I'm using it w an iPad 3 and it works very well. Good grip on the device, and on the mic stand. Only minor drawback is that you have to check when clipping in the iPad 3 I imagine it's due to the fact that it holds the thicker iPad 2 as well, so there is a little play. But once it's clipped in, it grips the device well and there are no issues.

Well worth the money. A cheaper stand that drops your iPad is a lot more expensive in the end...

I purchased this last christmas for my girls, 9 and 6. They absolutely LOVE it. It makes them feel like real performers. If you download the karaoke songs from iTunes, while in iTunes, right-click on the song and go to the "Lyrics" tab. I then go to the internet and look up the songs lyrics. I copy and paste the words under the "Lyrics" tab in iTunes. When you connect the ipod to the microphone stand, when you select the karaoke song, the lyrics show up on the screen! I would definitely recommend this product!

This is great fun for the kids. It was easy to set up. There's room for two microphones (it comes with one, but you may buy another), and you can add an electric guitar.

I have a Sansa mp3 player, which connected easily and works well, though it doesn't seat in the mp3 holder well. That might hold an IPOD, but I don't know. It sits, but it's not well-seated and can fall out easily.

The mic volume can be controlled up or down and there are independent switches for each mic, but if the volume of the music is turned down, the mic is also turned down. There is no way to turn the mic volume so it is louder than the music. It is possible to turn the music completely off and sing to nothing.

There is an echo option which can be controlled to allow for more or less echo in the voice.

The vocal eliminator function will eliminate vocals from a track at the touch of a button. The vocals are not completely eliminated and the music is a little distorted, but that is to be expected when eliminating vocals from a track. It is not possible to do without a little distortion. It's a nice feature to have so we don't have to go out and buy a bunch of karaoke music.

The biggest drawback to this karaoke system over others is that it lacks the lyrics display. Of course, when using our regular mp3's, we don't have lyrics anyway; but there is no option of getting lyrics display if we wanted it. I simply go find the lyrics on the internet and print them out.

The kids enjoy this microphone. Sometimes, they don't necessarily use it for singing, but it's a fun system and we will get lots of enjoyment out of it as we have already.

I have wanted a karaoke machine for years but hated having to buy so many cd's for the music. Well not anymore, I can use my own music. I loved this machine and so did my 3 kids. I have used it almost every day since I got it.

I do have 3 problems with the SingStand but for me personally it didn't take away enough to give it less than 5 stars. 1) The space for the ipod is not big enough. 2) When I first plugged it in it didn't work. I had to remove and insert the plug several times and then it worked fine. 3) The "vocal" button to remove the original vocals makes it sound kind of garbled. Again, for me these are not big issues but they might be to someone.

I would highly recommend this product.

Like karaoke, but better, as long as you know the words. MP3 plugs in, you have the option of blocking out the words from the song to sing by yourself, or you can sing along with the artist. My 8 year old daughter got this for Christmas, and it is by far the favorite gift.

I am not utilizing these headphones in the capacity that they are designed for, but they work great for the gym. I continually go through headphones as one side goes out or they go on the fritz like the Beats by Dre headphones. I bought both of these headphones and the Sony's are still going strong, I gave the Beats by Dre away to a friend. I have owned them for a bout 2 months so we will see how long they last. Very stylish and sleek design.. love them.

I'll start by saying that I am biased and forgiving of Shure products. My previous experience with the PG58 was amazing, thus purchasing this model--which produces a more professional sound than simply using a mini-plug adapted microphone--was a no-brainer for me.

I began this journey seeking a USB microphone to use for my home recordings. I did not want to purchase an external board, nor did I want to regress to using the aforementioned mini-jack input. The best sound--least noise--that I could get, given my stipulations, was a microphone with a USB interface. In all honesty, I went looking for a Shure microphone with a USB interface. The models that appeared were the PG27USB (which I've recently heard as better for all around recording) and the PG42USB (which is "enhanced" for vocal recording). Since I have no need to record any instrument other than a human voice, the PG42USB was perfect. I happened to catch the microphone for a better deal here on Amazon, but even if I hadn't found the deal, I would've bought this at full-price.

Now, with all of that bias, you might think that I am going to exclaim that my experience was magnificent and that I am overwhelmingly impressed with the characteristics of the microphone...but that's not the case.

Stepping up to this level of microphone has been an interesting ride. When you go "Professional" you have to make sure that your environment complements the equipment.

I used this microphone in-hand for three months and was able to get great recordings. The interpretation of sound is wonderful, really. Voices sound crisp and controlled. Many times, I had to step back and wonder how such great sound came from sitting on my futon and holding the microphone...

...and then I bought a Musician's Gear Die-Cast Mic Stand, Black, a Nady MPF-6 6-Inch Clamp On Microphone Pop Filter, and Auralex Studiofoam Designer Kit, Charcoal Gray...

Looking back at my first recordings, it's amazing to me that I was able to even do that. At this point, with these additional accessories (necessities, really) there is little to distinguish the recordings I make and those made in professional studios.

The only other experience I have with USB microphones is with a M-Audio Producer USB microphone. Compared to the Shure, the M-Audio sounded muddy and not exactly clear. The reality that Shure only does microphones and headphones should stand as an affirmation of their specialties. A company like Audio-Technica, who makes standard, good equipment, can't hold a candle in this field. Well, yes, they can--just being dramatic, I guess.

You're reading this to get an idea on whether or not you should purchase this microphone.

Something I will complain about is the potentiometers on the microphone (Volume and Mic Gain). They, in a word, suck. In addition, the headphone amp on the microphone seems a bit noisy, but that noise doesn't seem to transfer to the recording, so I'll presume it's just the headphone amp. In addition, I have yet to successfully install drivers for Windows 7, thus I use XP to record. XP is great since my computer is built for Windows 7, so it screams with performance (I dual-boot with 7 and XP)... And that's always a good thing once you start getting real-time effects involved.

Is it worth $200?

That's a good question. I don't believe that this mic is worth $200+ however, the convenience features (low freq roll-off, realtime monitoring, mic pre-amp, built in pop filter--questionable, yes) do provide for a much easier time recording. If you do invest in this microphone, be sure to invest in the accessories mentioned above... As I said in another review, why put regular gas in a premium car? Pay the little extra, and your recordings will be the better for it.

I hope that helps!!

Update:

I have to retract my former statements about the potentiometers (gain, mix). Maybe they had to break in, but the problems I had with them earlier no longer exists.

Looking at what's available out there, and considering the Shure brand, this is a microphone worth getting. Sure, you could get a less expensive one, but the microphone is the first and last word on the quality of your recordings. Might as well invest in a great one...and this is, truly, a great one.

Update:

After building a new machine, with recording and midi in mind, I found myself stuck with Windows 7. Thus, I could no longer use Windows XP as a shield in the incompatibilities that I found with Windows 7. Being a computer person, it was a welcomed challenge (resolving the seeming inherent delay--or improper handshake--between the Shure PG42 and Windows 7).

After doing quite a bit of research, I mistakenly fixed my delay issue after I installed ASIO4All to assist in ReWiring between Reason and Samplitude. When recording came around, I was left to use the ASIO4All driver...figured, what the heck.

Lo and Behold, the delay that was present in previous recordings...along with the poor way that Windows 7 natively handles USB connected microphones...all went away. I would actually profess that my vocals sound even better in Windows 7 using the aforementioned driver.

With that said, yes, this microphone is a go. The PG27 may be just as good, don't get me wrong, but I've learned quite a bit from "assuming"...so the PG42USB truly an amazing, cost effective way to produce quality recordings on a budget.

So, going back to my previous assertions...Yes, the PG42 is definitely worth $200...

Hope all of this helps...

Any questions, feel free to comment...I'm continually subscribed to this Customer Review section...

Buy Shure PG42-USB Vocal Microphone Now

Although there are newly-emerging microphones with greater digital bandwidth, this microphone sounds so good for my voice it's nearly ridiculous. There is no other USB microphone in the 16-bit/44.1kHz range that has a sound presence to match. This thing sounds much better than anything Blue makes (including the Yeti models), better than most things MXL makes (the 009 might have bested this one for more $$$), better than the Rode Podcaster, and better than anything Samson or Audio-Technica makes.

So I don't have a good radio voice, but I have to record trainings for work and this microphone has increased my perceived legitimacy at work by a huge margin. It has lots of on-mic tweaks. The gain, seperate from the monitor mix, seperate from the very powerful headphone amp volume. It has a fantastic overdrive indicator light, a -15dB pad switch, and a high-pass switch with bass roll-off. You can't match or beat these features for anywhere close to this price AND it makes me sound like I have golden tonsils.

It truly is a vocal microphone because anything else I've recorded with it while becoming familiar didn't sound as good.

FYI: You NEED a pop filter so you don't harm the condenser capsule. Pop filters make you look the part too, so just get one. You also need to know that depending on which audio driver stack you use in Windows can necessitate that you drive the recording input volume down to about 7 so it wouldn't overdrive. I switched over to ASIO4ALL and that took care of that problem.

BTW, I have some nice AKG headphones that require a lot of power from a headphone port and this microphone's monitor port drives them almost too loud at about 50%. It's amazing. Also, there's an onboard DAC so the monitor port has become my new favorite way to listen to music because there is absolutely NO self-noise from this microphone that I can pick up on. Think about it. I've got a DAC and headphone amp and awesome vocal mic all in one package (and it sounds really, really good).

So if you want the cleanest sounding digital vocal microphone package for anything under $800 (and without too many pieces to port around easily), get this mic. Also the flight case that this thing comes in is awesome!

First of all let me say this...IT COMES WITH A SHOCK MOUNT!! That is something the description does not say. So I ordered a shock mount separate from this only to wind up with TWO.

Next, The mic comes in a neat, well cushioned carrying case, so everything is nicely snug and secure. In the case are the mic, the usb cable and of course, the never mentioned Shock-Mount. And it is a GREAT shock-mount.

I needed a good mic for voiceover work on documentaries and animated shorts, and would rather pay for a good mic that will last me a good while as opposed to buying several cheap ones because I do not consider myself a "professional" Studio person.

Now jumping in to the actual sound quality of this mic...Let me start off by saying, I am not a professional sound engineer by any means...but even I know good sound quality when I hear it and all I can say is...WOW...Wonderful sound. It makes my recordings sound SO MUCH MORE professional. The tone is warm and clear. Everything you expect from a broadcast quality studio mic.

The greatest feature for me is it's usb plug-and play ability. Mics like this are usually connected via XLR and require a pre-amp. Not this...Just plug it in and GO!. Now, with my laptop, I have a portable studio!

Features include a volume wheel, monitor wheel, and Mic gain wheel...a headphone jack with which to monitor the sound as it is being recorded, a -15dB pad switch, and a bass roll-off / high-pass switch and an indicator light that turns red when audio begins to clip. So it has quite a few VERY useful and important features.

The best part of all this? The price was right! I hang around a lot of Studio folk and hear them chattering about how much money they drop on good microphones. I would expect to pay around $400+ for a mic of this caliber and quality. At well under $200 this is a STEAL!

Want Shure PG42-USB Vocal Microphone Discount?

Definitely worth the price. I wanted a high quality USB microphone to rap. I did a TON of research to find the best USB microphone, take my word this is it. The sound is so clear and it picks up everything, its ridiculous. I am also very impressed with the shock mount it came with, its really high quality. I am not a professional however, I use it with garageband and its plug and play.

One thing to note it says there is a built in pop filter and I am pretty sure their right, I feel like my pop filter does nothing for it. Just an FYI you don't really need a pop filter for this mic.

All other headphones are overpriced, over-hyped, and over-packaged. These get the same packaging treatment as a bag of screws: plastic bag, piece of cardboard and a staple. What that means is that you're not paying an extra $20-$30 for more garbage. Nor are you paying an extra $100+ for a company that relies on brand hype to make their money. All you get is high quality, music industry level sound. These are well balanced with clear highs, deep lows and defined mids. They're designed to let the cord dangle below the ear or to wrap around the back of the ear giving a more secure fit. Also, included on the cord is a little piece to cinch the cord close to your head so it doesn't wave around and get tangled. And one of the best features, showing this is designed for music professionals... NO CORD NOISE when it bumps against you. So many $100+ in-ear headphones suffer from the horrible oversight of cord noise traveling to the ear when you bump it making them less than idea for wearing while moving, which some people like to do while wearing headphones.

These are what I call high-value headphones. You get so much more than what you pay for or you get exactly what you pay for and the out of control headphone industry has made products like this a rarity.

I needed to upgrade my ear buds for our wireless system at Church. We are reqired to play spot on and there is no room for error, hence I need to hear everything and mixewd well at that. We play at about 95db+ and it is a large platform. I often cannot even hear my amp on the platform, even when it is cranked up, I get all my mix in the wireless system. I was recommended this brand by some of the professional musicians at Church, so I went ahead and ot these. They are fantastic. I could not believe all of the sound, tone and timing I was missing. I play better now because I can hear 1000 x better. These are great ear buds at this price point. Yes you can spend allot more, but you really do not need to, at least in this type of application. I will be buying a back up set of these very soon.

I first came across these headphones in an airport somewhere in Europe when my over-priced and under-quality Skull Candies stopped working. I used them for like 1-2 years until I finally wore them out. After much searching and trying out other brands, I found and bought this matching pair on Amazon, which I in turn used for another year or so. I still have them, but I'm ordering a back-up pair now because I'd hate to see these go without a proper replacement. I also own a pair of Dr. Dre's iBeats and I refuse to wear them. The Sennheisers may not sound as good, but they are SO much more durable (washed with my laundry TWICE!) and cheaper ($60 vs $200, what?). The sound dampening is sufficient for any plane ride and much better than any other pair in this price range. And I think the sound quality is excellent.

Also, one of the less talked about traits: I really like how light they are. One of the major complaints I have with other brands/models (like iBeats) is that they are just too heavy/bulky and get pulled out of my ears with the slightest tension on the cord. These don't.

I have tried other Sennheisers, but have not found other models to be any better bang for the buck. I'd recommend these to anyone who'd listen.

OK, so you want to buy some buds but have read all the reviews on the other contenders and found them having quality problems? Not these-solid as the year is long. Cord is heavy duty-buds are sturdy and well constructed. Sound is superb-but then these are the buds that come with a 700 dollar wireless sound system so of course they are not going to be downtown skid row. It is a little known secret that taking this short cut, buying buds that come with a expense system is the road of gold leading to audio nirva. Highs are crisp, mids are full and wide, and base is not that irritating ghetto teen thumping type of nonsense. Good buds for general use and will last forever. Enjoy, and forget the over priced flimsy meager sound buds you read so much about in reviews-old horse face is a happy horse with three hoof stomps down on these-no long face here thats for sure!

I was hesitant to buy a pair of earbuds for $60. I wasn't looking for professional in-ear sets or something custom molded--just a comfortable, quality sounding set of earbuds. These definitely fit the bill! Though moderate priced, they are NOT cheaply made and they have a great sound. Good low end and high end, and they fit comfortably in-ear. It's a bonus that they're designed the cord for behind ear placement, with a small cinch for a keeping the wires close to your neck. Perfect for wireless monitor packs!

I got my x5 just the other day and at $200 on amazon, I got to say that it's spot on. The faders are magnificent, the build is great, the eq's and sound are pretty good.

All in all a GREAT battle mixer and one of the best on the market for $200.

I bought this for about $280 6 months ago and it was the best mixer for the money. But at nearly $200 more now, there may be other options out there for you. However, this is a very excellent, no frills mixer.

Well built product. Hamster switch (or Reverse Mode Mixing) was a big draw for me for scratching and being able to change the slope of the fade is nice when I'm mixing.

I love the simplicity of it. I'm just having fun with DJing and if you're looking for something that's going to last you at a good price, this is it.
