If you purchase the proper Furman FUHRKIT1B rackmount kit to go with this amplifier, be VERY CAREFUL when you go to install the rackmount ears on it. The screws that come from Furman are not long enough. However, if you use longer screws, make sure they're only slightly longer. When facing the front of the ramp, the left front screw hole is in very close proximity to the traces for a capacitor. Screwing in too far will cause you to hit these traces, which will short circuit the amp and blow out one of the channels. Be careful!

There is really a whole lot to like about the Sport-Fi S6P. To begin, you get a lot of goodies for your buck. You get the in-ear headphones, a microphone, remote volume control, and an armband. Oh, and a nice carrying case, one that's small enough to fit in a purse or a jacket pocket.

The sound quality is surprisingly good given that the entire package is so inexpensive. Does it compare to my very expensive Klipsch headphones? No. But as I said, for such a low price, the sound is amazingly good. Additionally, the in-ear earphones do a nice job of canceling out mild ambient noise, such as traffic, overhead planes, and wind. This is a biggee if you're a jogger.

I'm a martial artist so I put on the armband with my iPhone secure in the pocket, wrapped what they call the "memory wire" around my ears, and commenced to have a hard solo workout. I practiced a variety of hand techniques in the air, starting slowly and progressing to all-out speed, and then moved over to the heavy bag and pummeled away. The armband held my phone securely for my entire training session and the in-ear headphones remained in place too.

I didn't have any problems wearing the unit while doing yard work and, of course, no problems kicking back on the sofa listening to my tunes.

I have a pair of MEElectronics Sport-Fi S6 and I love them. Because of this, I was eager to try the S6P with the phone control and in a different color. Just like the standard S6, these didn't let me down.

The Pros:

The sound is fantastic. It doesn't matter how you eq your music, these sound exactly how you want them to.

Great for running. I sweat a lot, and these don't budge.

Controls are right where they need to be. No need to touch your phone to take a call, pause/play music, skip tracks....

Very stylish

Carrying case is better now than it was with the original S6. The original was a little too bulky.

Arm band is also better than the original S6 armband. You can see your phone's screen on this one, and control it while it is in the arm band. The hidden key slot is a genius feature. It will also fit any arm..... big, small, you name it.

The extension cable makes it so you can use the headphones with your phone in your pocket or shorten the cable to use it with the arm band.

Sound isolation is great as well. These do not cancel outside noise, but they do a heck of a job isolating it. I use these on airplanes and swear by them.

Cons:

-The only con is that the arm band doesn't really fit in the carrying case. It fits around it very nicely, but not inside it. I don't really consider this a con because if the arm band fit in the case, the case wouldn't be as small and streamline. Personally if I am carrying them in the case, I'm probably traveling and wouldn't have the arm band with me anyway. Again not much of a con.

Conclusion:

BUY THESE HEADPHONES. They sound great, they look great, they perform great, they come with more than you could ever ask for.

MEElectronics Sport-Fi 26P are AWESOME. I've used their previous version and those were amazing as well, but the fact that I can now even use my phone and answer calls? It's great! VERY VERY Pleased by the quality of build, sound, and aesthetics.

My favorite features:

Behind-The-Ear molding wires: makes for an amazing fit and it stays secure. When I'm at the gym I do a lot of plyometric exercises and my favorite is to jump rope, I've never once had an issue with fitment and stability with these.

Sound Quality: Beats my Sony's any day. Clear sound, just the right amount of bass for me on my standard EQ settings. Great frequency range too.

Clips: What makes these earphones so unique to me are the clips. I can clip the cable to my shirt and the wires stay put. So when I'm doing jumping, skipping rope, running, and the like I don't have the cable swaying around everywhere. AWESOME benefit of the clips.

Overall: I use these earphone EVERYTIME I go to the gym. They have proven to be reliable. HIGHLY recommended that you purchase these.

This is my third set of MEElectronics headphones and they are my absolute favorite headphone company to buy from mainly because the Price to performance ratio is unmatched.

I did a bunch of research on headphone sound quality back in the day which lead me to my first set of M9's and was amazed that I could get such good sound quality from a $20 headphone, I've been sold ever since.

I've had the first model (the S6) for a while now and I rarely go on a run without them, the memory wire makes them perfect for any sort of activity that would cause regular sets to possibly fall out, which can be annoying and these solve that problem very well.

The S6P came out just in time because the new smartphone features are perfect for me. My favorite thing about these is the sound quality, they have very balanced sound with a very slight scoop in the mids from what I can tell, the bass is real tight and perfect for my taste, mids are fairly flat with maybe very slight scoop and the highs are crisp and clean, perfect for EDM.

The smartphone armband that comes with it is surprisingly solid which is unexpected because good ones out there aren't exactly cheap and these come free with the set.

I don't really see the point in paying extra just to get something that's more hyped and has the same sound and possibly even fewer features, very happy with these.

As to the earbuds themselves, they're great overall. Better than good, but not spectacular either.

I'm not an audiophile so I won't get into anything technical, but these earbuds hit the high's and low's just fine (anywhere in my range of musical tastes from orchestral to bass-filled tracks like dubstep). I never listen to anything louder than half of the volume capabilities because above that is just not necessary (these things get LOUD). At the highest volumes, which I tested a bit for this review, the sound distorts some. That won't be a problem for the average person though, who will probably never need music that loud.

To get these to fit properly, it will take a few minutes of tinkering the first time you wear them. Afterwards, these earbuds aren't going anywhere. They will fit anyone's ear comfortably. When I first used them, I didn't put the right ear tips in for my size ear and they would slip out some (although never actually fall due to the around-the-ear wire). I tried a couple more ear tip sizes the earbuds come with 7 or 8 pairs and haven't had this problem since in the hours I've spent running, biking, hiking, and whatever else. Also a great plus for you active lifestylers these don't slip out after sweating from exercise.

A huge benefit that I didn't even know I wanted the armband! That thing is perfect. Stays on your arm securely and fits almost any phone (best used with smart phones with a touchscreen). Also has a small pouch to put a key in.

The only downside to these earbuds is that they aren't very versatile. It's a hassle to fidget with these to put them on and take them off. For long periods of exercise, that hassle is worth it because no other earbud stays in like these when being active. But if I just want to multitask at home while listening to music or watching videos, it becomes annoying to take them on and off repeatedly.

I'd recommend to anyone who likes to listen to music while being active and just want a decent set of earbuds that won't fall out. If you're looking for some all-around decent earbuds, you might want to consider something without a wire.

I am a huge fan of the Cypher Labs Algorhythm Solo. I have been enjoying portable audio and listening to headphones for years, primarily relying on a line out dock from my iPod to a portable headphone amp, which right now is the ALO audio Rx MKII Portable Headphone Amplifier Black.

After plugging the Solo into my portable set-up, all I could say was 'Dang!' The Solo presents the music with such clarity and engaging detail that is really something special. As cliche as it might be, listening to the Solo with my MKII was like cleaning the dirt off the window I didn't know was dirty. Really the improvement in fidelity is that good.

The build of the unit is very study. It has a fairly utilitarian look, a compact metal case, inputs on each end. But that's really what I needed in a portable component, something that would not have parts that could break off or come loose because I'm dragging it around every where with me, which, by the way I am.

I really haven't come across too many products that can as dramatically improve the sound simply by plugging it in. While my portable set-up is getting larger by the moment, amp+dac+iPod, it is getting better too and that's what really matters.

Do your ears a favor and check out the Cypher Labs AlgoRhythm Solo

Note: This is a portable DAC (digital to analog converter) and not a headphone amplifier. The mini-plug out is to take the analog signal off the Solo. Reading the other review, I think this may have been confused with a headphone amp, which it is not.

this is quite a good dac, when I comparing it to some so called "hd" portable devices' lineout, it won without doubt. The sound is clean and detailed just as my computer's soundcard (but not when you first connect it to ipod, it needs about 5 minutes' "warm up" to reach the best state).

the only thing I am not satisfied is that it can only connect to some apple devices that can not play 24bit audio files, which means that you can only enjoy 16bit41.1khz on the road. It does not recognize any device but ipod/iphone/ipad, which means if you have a portable device with SPDIF output then you'll not be able to connect it to this dac.

anyway, if you want to enjoy music on the travel and this can be one of the best choices for its quality and small size.

I have the Algothythm Solo. I also have some of the ALO headphone amps. I have connected the AS to Ray Samuels portable amps as well as IQube. I think it is a marvelous product. The Algorhythm Solo is an Ipod transport and dac. When I say "Ipod transport" I mean that it turns an Ipod into a harddrive device that spits out ones and zeros. The Ipod dac is disengaged. In order to obtain the data as ones and zeros, the transport must have a chip licensed from Apple that allows the Ipod to be turned into a harddrive storage device. It is only useful with the Ipod if you have an amplifier to actually manage the volume of the Ipod because when you use it, you are disengaging not only the dac in the Ipod, but the internal amp which means that the sound could be so loud it is too much to listen to.

What you can do with an Ipod, Algorhythm Solo, and first rate earphones/headphones is amazing. It can be portable if you have big pockets. I will tell you that you will need a very high quality LOD cable that connects with the 30 pin connector at the bottom of the Ipod. Again, when you connect to the 30 pin connector, you totally lose the volume control on the Ipod (the circle that you increase or decrease volume with your finger). Without the amplifier, you have a line output device like a compact disc player, but without control. In essence, the volume control lowers the volume as much as it increases volume.

Since it only controls the Ipod as a transport and dac, it has better battery life than the Fostex HP-P1. With the Fortex HP-P1, it operates as a transport, dac and amp. It is a great device, but it has to do so much with the battery that the battery life is shorter.

Now the Fostex HP-P1 is very portable, but it does not sound as good as the Algorhythm Solo with another very good amp. The Fostex is a great device and is nearly perfect with an inner ear monitor, but it does not have the power to dive a full size headphone that is inefficient. For instance the Sennheiser 650 will play on the Fostex HP-P1, it does not really sing with the Fostex HP-P1 like it does for the Algorhythm Solo.

I actually recommend both the Algorhythm Solo and the Fostex HP-P1 in a big way. They have both revolutionized the sound of an Ipod. If you use either or both, you will have in your pocket a portable stereo that would cost many thousands of dollars to replicate with a traditional stereo in your home.

I don't know where to begin, there are all of the sudden so many options on the market and changes can be expensive.

About a year ago, I saw the Fostex HP P1 DAC/AMP and have been using it without complaint, until recently. The Fostex is a great little guy becasue it's Apple compatible and all-in-one, whereas this AlgoRythm Solo which is also USB/Apple compatible, really only works at it's best with another device attached to it (an Amplifier), like the ALO Continental (portable vacuum tube amp -limited supply at ALO), or the ALO Rx MK3b Amp, their newest flagship portable.

The reason that the Fostex became an issue was a silver USB Dock cable from Audioquest called "Diamond". I bought one thinking it would deliver even more clarity to the Fostex, but it was rough, coarse and too clear. Somehow it became a tinny, bright, digital sound again.

So I looked around and found a combination package at ALOaudio with an actual analog vacuum tube amp (very cool, military grade -100,000 hours). They sell the AlgoRythm Solo with their portable vacuum tube amp, the "Continental" as a package deal, including their cables. It's an amazing combination. I initially used the AlgoRythm Solo with the supplied ALO copper recipe cabling (a USB and mini-to-mini). But when I used the silver Audioquest Diamond with the AlgoRythm Solo, and the Continental all working together, the silver started to show it's true value. The diamond's are around $600 unfortunately, but that combination of pure silver, with the AlgoRythm Solo DAC, and a warm tube amp like the Continental, it was the best of all the combinations that I tried.

The people at ALO are correct, it depends what music you prefer. I listen to a lot of Electronica, but also love live music, like Peter Gabriel's "Secret World". So after experimenting withe the cables, I did find that the high quality copper mixtures are better for vocals like Secret World, marginally better. BUT with Electronica, like "This Moment" featuring Jonathan Mendelsohn (hair-tingling) vocals, mixed by Armin Van Buuren, a mixture of both vocals and digital harmonics, the SILVER hands down is piercingly tight and clear and not painful. There's no static or congestion at the highs. And bass is delivered by the Solo/Continental combination.

I've read about some folks who go with players like the ColorFly Hi-Fi Man, that play CD quality sound without the need for an additional amp. But unfortunately, I'm pretty much married to Apple and their proprietary empire. So the Solo is really it, because it will stream the digital signal without loss to the DAC while using an Apple product.

In my setup, I still need to replace their (ALO) packaged mini-to-mini cable that goes from the AlgoRythm Solo to the Continental. The two cables ALO provides together for their package are about $250 combined, they're nice, and I intend on bringing them with me for travel, incase I am listening to live music. But Audioquest Diamond does better for demanding techno/dance. I have a feeling that the silver will benefit all lines of transmission until it reaches the vacuum tube, from there the warmth takes over from the natural anaolg sound coming from the Continental Amp to the high quality silver-plated copper headphone-adapter (1/4 to 1/8 plug at $220), to my Fostex TH900's (which I also am in love with).But I've heard that the best headphones for the Solo are the Audeze Reference (also available at ALOaudio with modified cabling at $2600).

So bottom line is that I love this thing. It took a solid 100 150 hours to break-in, and sounded terrible out of the box actually. Which is actually perfectly normal.

It will work best in tandem with ALOaudio's "Continental" (portable tube AMP) or their most recent accomplishment: the new Rx MK3b Amp at around $700. I've also seen people using the AlgoRythm Solo with the SR71 (balanced headphone outputs?).

For PC users, the HeadAmp "Pico" available at ALO also, has really-really impressed me for it's tiny size and excellent quality interconnects. The bass, power and D/A conversion coming from that little device are definitely the best for it's size, that I have tried (it's not available at Amazon). The Centrance DACport LX (DAC) is another device that I am curious about, it's the only portable with a 1/4 headphone jack (unfortunately it's mini-USB input only, for PC's only?).

And my two cents regarding metals and cabling: The experts are right, it does actually depend on your preference. Silver being more of a clear no-loss, and bright signal, where the silver-plated copper recipe's are more for deep bass and broad analog sounds. So actually they work well together. For instance, the silver Diamond USB going from the iPod to the AlgoRythm Solo, then (I need to get this) a silver mini-to-mini Diamond from Solo to the Continental, and then a high-quality silver plated copper headphone adapter (1/4 to 1/8 plug), the last link in the chain.

I do have the ALO headphone adapter (220$), Grado and Sennheiser's 1/4 adapter to 1/8 plug are both made in China and cost $20 -For an adapter, definitely go to ALOaudio, or Moon-audio for a nice one.

I'm using Fostex TH900 headphones (with my ALO adapter), the rest are all Audioquest Diamond pure silver. EXCEPT, when I play Lionel Richie, or anything with deep live music and vocals, then I use their supplied copper recipe.

I have to say, it's a big rig, with the three devices stacked, iPod, AlgoRythm Solo DAC and Continental tube Amp. But well worth it on a plane ride or anywhere you want desktop quality audio on the go. You could just use the Solo with your favorite headphone amplifier.

I did use the AlgoRythm Solo DAC with the Fostex HP P1 DAC/AMP just to see what would happen, but the Continental was much more powerful. I would imagine that the other high-end amps are better as well. Fostex couldn't really drive big-big headphones, but does have plenty of power.

Its hard to say that I prefer the Solo over the Fostex, because the situation changed with that Diamond. So, if you want an all-in-one, the Fostex is not At all a bad way to go. The nice thing about the Solo, is that you could always get a better amp later on (if you already have one you will need to control the volume Solo does not). It's said that the internal DAC on the iPod is really bad, so just using the solo may have benefits for D/A conversion, but again no volume control.

Fostex and Solo are Unique: these two devices are the only two portable that connect via Apple certified USB/30-pin Dock connection (stream bit pefect audio).

A side note, ALO also customizes really high-end headphones, like the Audeze that would normally have a 1/4 gold plug, they replace it with a 1/8 silver or silver plated copper for around $600 extra. And the Beyerdynamic t5, also modified from ALO.

Moon-Audio also carries many handmade quality cables and adapters, hard to find, that are slightly more reasonable than ALO.

Setup was automatic, easier than our previous Shure wireless headset, which required setting the channel. The sound quality is full and clear. We do have a problem with the windscreen coming off when packing and unpacking the microphone headset from our tight travel case. The windscreen comes with a velcro to hold it in place on the mic, but we must be too rough with it.

Line 6 has released a wide variety of products over the years and of trying various items, this amp has so far become one of their most first-rate music accessories in my book (you can find my book at your local library...haha) with a extensive assortment of features and attractive sound output eminence, it certainly deserves a purchase from any guitar enthusiast who is in need of quality presentation.

The features are beautifully user responsive, with simplicity for any skill set guitarist which, comprised of various sound effect alternatives, as well as common and greater preset amp tones, is designed with the well-known guitar legends in mind. As listed in the product details and manufacturer's description, the presets are clean, crunch, metal and insane and can be altered and saved to your own unique profile settings.

*Clean is actually perfectly set, in my opinion, for the classic smooth sound. The only tweak I made to it was an increase in the bass tone which is just a personal preference in tone.

*Crunch The slightly distorted, heavy bass setting is a decent alternative to clean and is a useful tool for more of a "Zeppelin" sound. I had to make a few tweaks to all tones settings to get my preferred sound, but overall it's great as is.

*Metal is self explanatory and is quite useful for new-age, 4 chord rock (grunge/alternative) and of course, metal. My favorite use for it is palm muted power chords and lead guitar/solos. My only tweak to this setting was to increase treble (oddly enough) to actually give it more of a "crunchiness" for string mutes and pinch harmonics.

*Insane to me is the same as the metal setting, just with a lot more distortion and I rarely use it, so I unfortunately cannot say much about it.

The other effects are for the more glam guitarist but included a few that I found useful, including Phaser, Chorus and Tape Echo.

*Phaser adds an interesting "sci-fi" sound effect added to notes and is really only very audible when used with a clean effect.

*Chorus production gives you that watery after ring (think "Come as you are" by Nirvana) that can be used lightly or tremendously, depending on your preference, with a simple adjustment of the knob and additionally, is best with clean notes, but is more audible with distortion than the phaser cousin.

*Tape Echo modification has been used on the first song I ever recorded and I was amazed with the adaptability and precision of this effect, leaving variation open to any amp effect of individual partiality. Furthermore, to alter the delay of the echo is exceptionally straightforward and amazingly accurate; with a simple push of the button and repeating the tapping the button again for ½, ¼, eighth, sixteenth note, etc. softened duplicate resonation.

The amp's only blemish I would consider is the MP3 jack used for recording the music in which Line 6 would've been better off utilizing a USB jack. The connection to the amp for this jack seems touchy, but perhaps that is just a flaw with my amp individually. This alone was definitely not enough to give it any less than a five-star rating.

To conclude, this amp is, as stated previously, a must for anyone who enjoys intuitive accessories for their guitar and is fine compliment to any band or musical endeavor.

Buy Line 6 Spider III 30-Watt Guitar Combo Amplifier Now

I bought this model amp several months ago at a local Guitar Center. Mainly due to the fact my then current amp was a generic squawk box of absolute zero quality. I walked in, and began my search for a nice $200ish amp.

And boy, oh boy, let me tell you I made the right choice. I shopped around the store, trying out every single amplifier of similar price (my range was between $150 and $300) to make the best call of judgment that I could. I plugged in my Ibanez and played to my hearts content, mostly thrashy, deathy stuff. Being mostly a metalhead, the four individual channels (especially Metal and Insane) really appealed to me. The versatility they allow is outstanding. Believe me, you will find a tone you like with this machine. The only complaint is that you do get some effects that you most likely will never use (like Tremolo, or the Echo). And each effects knob controls three separate effects, so you cannot intermingle flange and phaser, for instance. Then again, I almost never use them, so it doesn't bother me in the least.

Now before I made a purchase with the salesman who looked like he needed to shower and wash the cigarette stains from his teeth, I played every single amplifier they had of similar price and specifications. I played two different Fender combos, a couple of Marshalls (which were the most expensive, mostly because you pay extra for the marshall name), a Raven combo, and a Crate. Now obviously, I shan't go in to fine detail relating to all of them, but rest assured all these manufactures make decent good models in their own right, and you would not be shorting yourself if you went with any of them, but for shear value, this Line 6 is an excellent choice.

I went with this amp because it suits my needs: I play Heavy Metal style music %90 of the time, and the "Metal" and "Insane" channels both sound very nice considering this is a solid-state modelling amp. I loved the tone, and it really gave me that warm feeling inside to play better and louder for the hell of it. Add a little (just a little) reverb and push the gain knob to around 8 and I'm a happy guy. the direct input is also a really great feature, my former bandmates used it often to record late at night when our bassists dad would head off to slumberland.

Now, it's obvious that better amps exist. But it would be unfair to rate this amplifier in comparison to, say, a Marshal JCM all-tube model half-stack. So one must consider the context this amp is for. I've used this amp for a couple small club shows, and many people are surprised such a small machine can be loud enough to work in a dingy little cafe or public center.

I've never had to turn this amp up to half volume, it's pretty loud for having a low wattage. While the amp is intended for rock and metal, the clean setting sounds great, too. I don't use the Crunch setting often, preferring instead to use my Zoom pedal for that sound.

One thing that might bother some people: occasionally if you turn on the amp, you will not hear anything. All you need to do is turn it off and on again. Also, sometimes when you turn on the amp, the settings are forgotten by the amp. If you twiddle with the knobs, then you can get back your settings. This isn't a big problem, but can be annoying.

The built-in effects are alright, but again, I prefer to use my pedals. The headphone output is useful if you're playing at night or recording. The MP3 in is alright, but naturally when you play music from your iPod in the amp, it will sound different (since the amp was built for the specific frequency range of guitar sounds). However if you use headphones and the MP3 simultaneously, there should be no problem. I have never used the FBV pedal input.

It's a simple amp, but it's loud, durable, and not too expensive. For most people this amp should be adequate if you have a store of effects pedals to use it with.

There are only two products on the market (that I know of) that provide a STEREO line input for the iPad: The Line 6 Mobile In audio interface, and Sonoma's GuitarJack audio interface. I've owned both, so allow me to compare the two...

The Line6 Mobile In is cheaply constructed in a plastic shell. Even the parts that look like metal in the picture, are just grey plastic. The Mobile In provides two 1/8'' inputs, one for a guitar (it includes an adapter cable) and another for stereo line-in. Only one input will function at a time, I believe (I purchased this purely for the stereo line-in, as I am not a guitar player at all).

The Mobile In DOES NOT WORK for stereo line-in on a new iPad using Garageband or any other audio app I wanted to use it with. Their company claims it's supposed-to, but it doesn't. The stereo input is treated as mono, defeating the entire purpose of why I bought it. Ended up returning the product since I had no faith that their company would be able to resolve the problem in a timely fashion. As I understand it, they still haven't fixed that issue.

IN CONTRAST...

The GuitarJack has solid construction and a sleek metal body. You can immediately tell it's a quality device. Its stereo input worked perfectly on the new iPad, whether it was in GarageBand or the other apps I had used. Note, you may have to configure it in one of their recommended apps first, but that's quick and easy to do. From what I understand, you can use both its 1/4'' guitar input and 1/8'' stereo input at the same time, but I haven't bothered to try that yet.

You can use the GuitarJack directly with the iPad, however you may need to remove whatever case you have your iPad in (as I did with my INVELLOP case). When using the GuitarJack this way, you will need to lay the iPad COMPLETELY flat (as in, not tilted, even a little). The other option is to use an extension cable, which you WILL want to get; even if the iPad and GuitarJack are on a perfectly flat surface, it's still too easy to accidentally disconnect the two. Sonoma markets their own extension cable for the GuitarJack, but it's pricey ($25+). Instead, I purchased a cheap, no-name iPad dock extension cable that is over a foot longer than Sonoma's, one-fifth the price, and works just fine with the GuitarJack.

One annoying thing I found was that when the GuitarJack is connected, the iPad's built-in speaker and headphone jack become disabled, and you need to use the GuitarJack's headphone output to hear *anything*. I understand the input jacks taking precedence over the iPad's built-in mic (and I understand that the iPad's built-in headphone jack can also be used to connect mics) but I really wish it didn't auto-disable the speaker, and acted more as an auxiliary headphone output instead. I wanted to be able to mic monitor without NEEDING headphones, but I usually keep headphones with me anyway, so it isn't thaaaat big of a deal.

Minus one star for making an extension cable a basic necessity (and additional purchase, where they *attempt* to rip you off) as well as the disabled speaker/headphone thing. This is an expensive iPad accessory (it costs about twice as much as the Mobile In), but it's constructed well, looks dope, and, most importantly of all, IT ACTUALLY WORKS!!!

Very solidly built unit, and I'm using the new ipad (ipad 3) with it. Works very well, and the sound is the best that I have heard. I also have an amp kit interface and there is simply no comparison in sound quality to the Guitarjack 2. The amp kit amplifiers and pedals sound awesome though. Sonoma, Four track and Studio track work well for recording with the Guitarjack 2.

My headphones seem to work perfectly using the iPad headphone jack, but have found the Guitarjack 2 headphone output noisy sometimes. Would really like to be able to use Bluetooth headphones, so perhaps this something that could be added as a new feature someday.

Finally, I recommend you also purchase the dock extender, as it offers more flexibility than plugging directly into the iPad.

No regrets on purchasing this unit. It's a keeper!

GuitarJack2 turns my iPhone and iPad2 into a excellent digital recording platform. I can connect a powered mic using one of the 1/8" inputs, a guitar in the 1/4" input, and a headset for monitoring into the second 1/8" input. The device itself is solidly built and the integration software is well designed and easy to use. It's not the cheapest input device (I own one of those, too) but it is the BEST and well worth the money if you're serious about using an iPhone or, particularly, the iPad for recording. Tip: make sure the iPhone/iPad and GuitarJack2 are on a flat surface to ensure a solid connection.

I've really enjoyed the guitarjack model 2. It's rugged and compact enough that I carry it around in my pocket a great deal of the time. I get startling good tones from both my electric guitars and the acoustic/electric ones.

I have an iphone 3gs and have to shut down all the background programs, turn on airplane mode and reboot the phone to keep the sound from crackling, but it's worth this extra step to have such a powerful creative tool. I'm sure this isn't a problem with newer hardware. It's great fun to flip through the amp and pedal combinations and find just the sound you're looking for.

I've been reviewing any audio input device I could get my hands on for iOS since the original iPhone was released, and since the 3G, 3GS and 4/4S, the world of audio input for iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches has become much more complex, but way better!

Use for Audio Recording

The GuitarJack Model 2 seems the perfect fit for almost any kind of audio-only recording in iOS. It works in perfect unison with FourTrack, a very nice multitrack audio recording app for the iPhone (made for this product), and works well with most other audio recorders (I prefer FiRe 2). Stereo or mono, line or mic level, 1/8" or 1/4" (or both at the same time), it's extremely flexible, and the sound levels are great (and adjustable).

The signal quality is great, with no noticable noise, and sounds much better than using analog inputs through the iPhone's headphone jack, and a little better than competing dock interfaces like the Fostex AR-4i.

Use for Video

However, it falls short when you want to use it along with the built-in Camera app, or other video recording apps... this wouldn't be an issue for many people, but a lot of people I know are looking for an awesome dock input that also works perfectly with video recording. It seems that the input sometimes switches from internal mic to the GuitarJack, but not always, when using Camera or some other video recorders. If the GuitarJack worked better with video, I'd give it five stars.

Build Quality

The build quality of this device is excellent; it looks sharp (gun metal finish with a beautiful shine!), feels extremely solid, and doesn't come unplugged unless you give a good pull. For an even more secure fit, put a line of blue or gaffer's tape along the top and bottom to affix it to your iPhone. This is the smallest, but most flexible, and best-looking iOS dock connector audio interface yet.

My Recommendation

If you want to record audio-only, this is the best option. If you want to record video with the GuitarJack, you're in for a world of hurt; look elsewhere.

The microphone input on my Koss dongle never worked, and the output worked only briefly before dying. Moreover, the output sound was not as good as that from the headphone output on my MacBook Pro. After one use with my headphones, the device is now completely dead. So my rating is really zero stars. I'm glad that it seems to work for some, but I had no luck with it.

Everything is going to USB these days. Mics/headphones as well. So its not unusual to see computers without a standard analog mic/headphone jack. Particularly with laptops. This device solves this problem nicely. Its also small and does not take up much space when carrying with my laptop.

My sound stopped working for a while and this little device let me plug and play through USB. There is only one slight problem. The audio in (mic) is not nearly as effective as the audio out. I've been chasing tube tone in my tiny apartment for years now. I've tried everything from modelers, tube pedals, one-knob Class A amps, etc. and could never quite hit the sweet spot. I got wind of the Lil' Night Train and was very interested in the idea of a 2W, all-tube head. I tried it at my local guitar shop and was instantly sold.

It's the perfect little amp for people who cannot crank a 100W stack to get good tone at home. I can set the gain down low and dime the master volume for sparkly cleans that won't disturb the neighbors. Or, set the master low and crank the gain for some serious distortion. It can get pretty loud for an apartment if you start maxing out the gain and master but it's not loud enough to play over a drummer if you're thinking of using it in a band setting. Sounds great into a 1x10 cabinet but sounds epic into anything larger.

Unfortunately the headphone out is inadequate. Cleans sound good but any gain sounds very harsh and unusable even for just practicing. It can still be used as line-out into an external cab simulator for recording, which sounds good, but the output direct to headphones is not implemented well. Don't buy this amp if headphone use is one of your top needs.

This is a great little amp, but you have to remember; it is just a practice amp. That said I play mainly out of a Mesa Boogie Lonestar Special. I also have 3 tube practice amps, a Jet City Picovalve, a Kustom Defender 5H, and this Lil Night Train.

The Jet City is mushy sounding, even with different tubes, but playable. The Kustom gives an awesome clean tube sound for a little amp, but I find my self practicing with the Lil Night Train. It sounds like a much bigger amp. Because there is only a single channel, you have to play with it to get the sound you want. With a Les Paul Standard, I tend to turn the treble up a little and the gain down. With a Strat, the treble goes down and the gain up.

It takes pedals really well. Put a Tubescreamer type overdrive with a little bit of gain from both the amp and the Tubescreamer and you can get a big tube amp bluesy tone at very reasonable volumes.

This little amp can sound so good that you can bring it with you to practice sessions, if you understand that for different songs (sounds) you'll have to adjust the controls.

I love the Lil' Night Train. I haven't had the chance to try it with a nice cab, but even with a bad one, it sounds amazing after it's all warmed up. I would not recommend to buy this just for headphone use; because that output is really bad quality.

This is a handy little bugger, I currently have it hooked up to a MOTU external sound card.

I can certainly get some good sounds out of it, however it would be nice if you could crank up both the volume and the gain without the signal clipping. I realize there are steps I can take to correct this, however if I wanted a more complicated setup I would not have purchased this amp. The advertising should reflect that this amp does not have a true power soak, just a headphone output.

Overall, it's good but not great. So far, it's worth it.

This was the first time with this product and low and behold, I have ran up my blood pressure trying to install this thing. The instruction "cheat sheet" was not at all helpful. Had to redo everything step-by-step all over again, and again, and again. So once installed, the iLok and registration components did not communicate to well. Apparently, something went wrong with the other partners linked to this product. I need someone to contact me as soon as possible and let me know when iLok, Avid and the iLok Management (3rd Generation) will be fix. It is making a BAD NAME FOR PRO TOOLS AT THIS POINT....help, or don't waste your money on this thing until it is 'REALLY FIXED', I have been pulling all my hair out on this one, for about 2 weeks now....urkkkkkked!!!!

This is your basic USB recording interface with Pro Tools SE included. When this first came out it had Pro Tools Express which was a much better software than SE, you can check out the comparison chart between the PT versions on Avid's website. I didn't experience all the issues the other reviewer had regarding getting the unit up and running, it was pretty simple. PTSE is just not a very good recording option but you can run the Mbox Mini with Garageband and with Abelton Live Lite which is what I do, it works perfectly fine. It also runs fine with Cubase, Logic and pretty much everything out there.

Some of the plug ins that some in PTExp are pretty cool as are some of the VST's so I still use certain parts of it. As far as the hardware goes, the price is pretty good for a 2x2 interface if you only need a 1 by then you can get away with something like the Fast Track MKII for $100 less. All in all worth the money and for me meets my needs and I found it easy to set up and use.

I'm more impressed with the design and aesthetics of the thing than the function and use of it. I could understand that they're trying to curb piracy of the product but INSTALLATION IS HELL! they take you to Jabim and back just to install the darn thing. Then after installation i used it once, then I closed it. When I opened the software again, it was telling me that Pro Tools doesnt recognize the Mbox (therefore the software could load/use), please insert the Mbox etc. So I tried using the updated driver from the internet, that then was hell because it would open therefore i couldn't install. Then a month later I tried importing some files into a Pro Tools session, and it would just stuck, wouldn't open or finish load. I had to transfer the session and everything onto another computer of fine where I MBox 2 installed. The whole thing is only stress and I wouldn't advise you to buy Mbox3 with Express. Im not sure if it's only the Mbox mini 3 or Express that's a problem but my advise is to stick with the Mbox 2 with LE. It's safer, more stable and would give you a better overall experience.

I have worked for weeks/countless hours trying to get this installed to no avail... Not compatible with Xp, Win 8 or 7... Never recognizes the hardware... they have endless lists of drivers, so You pretty much fish around/trial and error. I never got it working... Very sad as Protools has a good reputation... It did to me prior to this! I have never had this much trouble with any software, and I work in IT... Unless You are an IT pro, do not buy this... I will be returning and buying something more user friendly

After barely a year of use, the mbox mini hardware stopped being recognized by my Mac. I tried it on another computer. I tried several different cables. I tried everything suggested in forums. I uninstalled and reinstalled and repaired disk permissions. I tried going to the Avid site, but many of the links are broken and other pages are down for maintenance. And they charge $40 for a service call. Mind you, I'm guessing at that. It might be $20; it might be $80. Their service sales page is very unclear as to which purchase is for a hardware service call.

The only positive thing to come out of my experience with Pro Tools and the mbox mini is that I learned to Command Save frequently, thanks to Pro Tools' propensity for crashing, freezing, and otherwise ceasing to work. So there's that.

These are actually very nice headphones, Good sound quality and good bass I would compare these to something like skullcandy headphones but better looking more compact and portable with crisper sound in the treble. These are not indestructible they are made of plastic if you abuse them they will break. I have noted that over time the glue in the head-strap cushion has given way (just apply more glue to keep it on), and the pins by the headphone joint have popped out a little but can be popped back in and be fine. Granted they are not going to preform at the same level that more expensive headphones will but for 50 bucks they ain't bad.

These are wonderful for running! I use them almost daily at the gym and they are still just as great as when I bought them! They do not soak up sweat which is wonderful although they are not soundproof (which I'm fine with since I mostly use them at the gym!) They are well worth the money and I love that if they are dropped (or I drop my iPhone) the cord unplugs from the base of the headphone versus pulling on the cord. If you are looking for running headphones, these are them!!

These Nixon Trooper Headphones are great to use, especially if you're lazy to go to your mp3 and press buttons, that what the volume control is for :D probably the greatest part to the headphones. I owned this pair of headphones that sound lasted me a good 2-3 years, BUT HOWEVER, it's not great but okay. The construction was made entirely plastic beside the ear silicon thing, less than 3 months have the plastic broke on me, so during the past years i have to hold one part of the headphones by bringing my hands to my head every time because I didn't want to buy one. It's great to listen but not very durable I'll tell you that right now, PLUS I got this FREE by lockerz, was a great website to get free things, now trash, anyway I go somewhere else to buy if your looking for both sounds and durable go look somewhere else, if you want the volume control or u feel like you go the money to experiment go for it.

Amazon suggests that, for a "good review", I should address what I would have wanted to know before I purchased the product. Well, here's the list of things I would have wanted to know, and what I discovered about the product once I received it:

1. Does it work? (Yes, as it turns out, it does.)

2. Is it really 50 feet long? (Yes, as it turns out, it is.)

3. Does it contain any atomic material? (Yes, as it turns out, it is made with atoms.)

4. Are the connectors on this cable correctly sized to match the 1/8" plugs and jacks on my equipment? (Yes, as it turns out, they are.)

5. Will it ship in some sort of packaging? (Yes, as it turns out, it did.)

6. Will it correctly predict tonight's lottery numbers so I can become a millionaire? (No, as it turns out, it will not. And no, as it turns out, I did not.)

So...if you need your headphone extension cable to correctly predict tonight's lottery numbers, you should definitely look elsewhere. But if you need it to listen to your 1/8" headphones less than 50 feet away from your audio source, this should meet your needs.

Great basic cable. I use it to connect my NuForce Icon HD dac/amp, which is connected to a desktop computer, to one of three stereo amp/receivers in my home (one is a Denon, two are Onkyo), to a Boston Acoustics radio in a bathroom, and for use with headphones. I considered buying an FM transmitter to send sound from the desktop to the receivers but was put off by the cost and the mixed reviews for FM transmitters (some reviewers say they get good reception with them, but many say they do not, so buying one seems like a gamble, and if you modify one in an attempt to improve the sound, you render it unreturnable). This cable is an inexpensive, though obviously less convenient, alternative.

Connection to the amp/receivers requires an additional cable and I use Belkin Y Audio Cables (I have a few of these so I can keep them connected to the amp/receivers).

I figured it was safe to buy this cable after visiting the YCS Your Cable Store website (yourcablestore dot com) and reading about this family owned business out of Paradise, CA (north of Sacramento, east of Chico).

I've used shorter, more expensive and presumably better quality cables and if there is any difference in the audio quality between those and this YCS Basics cable my ears cannot detect any. The signal is clear and I get no static when the cable is moving around (as when used with headphones). Because the cable is thin and because it's basic and thus inexpensive cable, I realize that it may not hold up well to stress, so I avoid putting stress on it.

It comes coiled up and I found it helpful to straighten it by passing its length through my hands and also over a shoulder a few times. Had I not done this, I'm sure kinks would've developed, as small coiled areas develop when it's first stretched out and when the cable is pulled on these become tighter, creating stress points in the cable (areas where the cable could break). When I coil it up when not in use I go around my elbow and hand (as if coiling a garden hose) so as to keep the cable relatively loose and thus unstressed.
