I own 2 pairs of these and in a course of soon 5 years, they always been great, quality open backs. The sound is monitor grade and superbly comfortable. I am very pleased with quality of Samson products in general. I can wear them for hours with no fatigue at all. Considering their price point, you will be hard pressed to find anything that great. Samson also gives 3 years warranty on it, which I never had any chance to use, but it speaks of quality too.

I must begin by stating I am an aspiring audiophile and what I got from these phones was almost jaw-dropping accuracy and the most balanced and transparent sound south of 100 dollars. To begin these are the most affordable open cans that sound right and perhaps further even. It is no surprise that their sister brand Superlux is highly regarded in head-fi forums.

Althought the cans look plasticky and cheap they are sturdy, cable is thick enough althought I'd prefer a beefier one. The level of comfort they provide is more than acceptable and they clamp very little while not falling over your head if you tilt your noggin down.

The pads are kinda shallow and I would love to replece them by velour ones if I find ones that fit. I am pretty sure SQ will improve dramatically by posisioning the driver grille a little further but the guys at Samson did their job right by covering the driver grille with synthetic fabric so it does not press your ears so they are really comfy. These cans are really light despite their somewhat cumbersome structure they dissapear quickly when worn and they require exact positioning to appropriately listen to the the treble they offer.

These won't turn any heads for they are big but discrete and unassuming enough to take them out for a walk if the place is not noisy however the 10 foot cable would require a velcro strap or a similar measure for portable use and being open means you will hear external sounds and they will leak sound to the outside so wearing them in the tube may force you to raise volume to unhealthy levels annoying other people as well.

The Samson's are rated 32 ohms of impedance but won't sound very good out of low powered mp3 players. Amping them with the inexpensive and somewhat warm FIIO E6 would be a very nice idea for they open up and soundstage widens when amped.Of course a better amp will do them even more justice.

Although the sound of these cans seems balanced they seem to be slightly W-shaped in terms of sonic signature. Layering and sound staging is superb for the price. The treble is tamed without losing shimmer and the bass sounds reassuringly controlled even though I am not sure how deep in the sub-bass region they can go, bass sounds that well that it never gets overwhelming or bloated. You hear the notes clearly.

The RH600 portray the in your face kind of presentation for the mids sound a tad forward not shouty though but the overall coherence of their sound makes them very natural to my ears and leave pricier alternatives to shame. In fact they are quick enough to avoid smearing fast-paced notes and I tested them using the infamous Mogwai's "Mogwai Fear Satan" and they passed the test with flying colours, not a single note smeared and that song is famous to bring headpnones to their knees for it has a very dense wall of sound which is combined with very intense drumming so most consumer-oriented headphones cannot cope and strugle to show details with little or no luck at all.

I don't know how long they will last but the warranty is long enough to be happy with the purchase. To be concise they are as resolving, airy and transparent as their little price tag can buy

Update

After finishing burn-in I consider the Samson's a little inclined to the warm side of things although they never sound utterly dark, they remind me the Grado sound a little. I guess they can be compared to the SR60i or the SR80i they are energetic and upfront but sometimes their rendition of electronic dance music is strictly analytical and cold although they really shine with Rock music. It's amazing how they render electric guitars.

First of all I'm not an audiophile. I bought this headphone to play games on my computer. It replaced my old plantronics 650 headset. Out of the box it does sound clearer but it's like your head is inside a tin can. WIth some heavy tweaking on my xonar dx they sound better. Also do not get these if you want bass these will distort easily if you up the bass. If you have a fat head these will be uncomfortable.

I've had these headphones for about two years now, so I'll review them regarding how they now perform.

These headphones started out sounding not too bad, albeit a little cheap, but now, after about two years, they sound truly terrible. That would suggest inferior quality materials that degrade prematurely. There is a bump that has developed in the mid-range that makes the reproduction sound unpleasantly harsh, and will more than likely end up giving you an ear ache due to fatigue. The bass is heavy, thumping, and over-pronounced, while the treble is harsh, ill defined, and incapable of producing 'air', which is that wispy spacial feeling offered by very high audio frequencies. Some time ago I emailed Samson to ask them if they could supply a frequency response chart. They said they would do so but none has arrived and my reminders went ignored. So much for the reputation of American customer service, which is proving to be a complete myth the more I deal with these outfits.

I understand there is a modification by dismantling and adding a little circuitry to them which may well improve the sound if you wish to pursue this course, but that involves ability, time, risk, and the invalidation of warranty. Furthermore, as the headphones will soon degrade, such a modification will quickly prove pointless. Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, life's just too short to spend it messing around like that. You'd be better off paying a bit more for something with better quality, and having already sampled the alternative SR850s (laughingly titled 'Pro studio Headphones') it's definitely not in the range offered by Samson. I've heard better quality through cheaper, less marketed brands.
