I bought this for my wife who teaches in the elementary grades and she connected it to an existing CD player to create a listening center for her class. It is a much less expensive solution than buying a CD player with multiple output jacks from the teacher supply places. Each of the eight connections has its own volume control. Something to keep in mind if a student isn't getting any sound from it.
The only con is it takes the larger stereo headphone jacks, so if you need the smaller ipod sized headphone jacks, you will also have to purchase the adapters. Shop around, you can get them very inexpensively . I bought my wife 8 adapters for .36 cents a piece.

Bought this for my son's classroom. They do group listening to books on CD during center time.It keeps the overall noise level under control. Each channel has its own volume knob.
The kids all listen to the book together and then do the comprehension questions as a team.
Has held up 5 months so far and looks brand new.I'm buying these for use in an elementary building. Great price and reliable productthis is the thrid one I've placed in a classroom, all have worked well.
