I am the drummer in a touring band that utilizes a click track. There is no set list all tunes are called on the spot making it demanding for quick changes. I utilize a computer for play back of a click program into an in-ear rig that feeds everyone in the band. Of course I need control of my click level without being able to get from behind the drum kit and adjust it on the in-ear board. Not to mention when one of the guitarists or bassist decides to turn up their stage rig thus burying my click even further in my mix.

This personal monitor has been through at least 300+ hours (and at least 3000 miles) of heavy use. It has been accidentally zapped with 120 volts, dropped and banged around for the past 7 months. I am the band rely heavily on it in our demanding situation.

I have been a live performer since the age of 7 and highly recommend this item (yes Behringer? I KNOW!) for any one who needs two channels of ground-switchable separate inputs and outputs.

The stereo/mono switch makes it perfect for touring AND studio. Matter of fact, I am in the process of buying several more for individual monitors in my recording studio. They are clean, each artist can boost themselves BEFORE I have to hassle with continuous fiddling with separate headphone mixes and inexpensive.

Use them with impunity!

I bought this amp just to listen to my laptop headphones, so I can't say much about how it functions as a monitor. But as for it's other functions...

A.) There is a noticeable increase in the fullness of the sound by plugging into this versus the laptop's headphone jack. The headphone drivers in laptops aren't great at handling louder material, especially if you have some nicer headphones (more OHMs=more power to drive them). This provides that extra boost to get the full spectrum of sounds without distortion.

B.) I also use this as a quick way to change my volume. Before, I had to press the little speaker icon and adjust the level with my mouse, now it's a simple turn of the knob, much more accurate and simple.

C.) These don't HAVE to be used for only headphones; they can at least give a boost to a pair of computer speakers.

For the price, I think this was a worthy investment.

i used to play drums in an electro-pop group and would use this to monitor the backing tracks instead of using the on-stage wedge monitors. no complaints at all. every engineer we worked with never had any problems getting the monitor mix to run thru them. and since every backing track was at a different volume, it was very nice to be able to adjust my personal monitor mix on the fly instead of flagging down the engineer with clumsy hand signals from on stage (especially hard to do while playing drums :-). its got a great sound and being able to switch from mono to stereo came in very handy at venues that didnt have a stereo set-up. i highly recommend it.

I got this product because my six year old daughter loves to sing into a microphone...just goofing around. Then one day, I saw a blow-out deal on a professional-quality microphone so I got it as a gift for her. But of course, it had an XLR connector so I got this "Behringer MA400 Monitor Headphone Amplifier" so she could hear herself with headphones or through our stereo. Given the price, I thought it would be pretty mediocre but figured that it would be good enough for my purposes. To my surprise, it's really pretty amazing. I would have expected some humming or buzzng, but no...there isn't the slightest hint of background noise and the frequency response and distortion levels are great. Professionals can buy this product with confidence.

This this is perfect! I was finalizing my new audio setup at my workstation and I realized that I needed a way to hook up my headphones (a pair of Bose Triports). Currently, my setup goes FiiO DAC -> AudioSource EQ -> Lepai amp -> Dayton speakers. I tapped off the EQ output with some RCA splitters and an RCA to TRS adapter and fed the signal to this headphone amp. It works great, and I don't notice any distortion of the signal (in fact, I usually bypass the EQ when listening through the headphones).

I haven't tested the XLR side of the system as I have had no need for it, but I can say that the Line monitor works fine.

This brings me to an important point: this is NOT designed to be an instrument amp. It can take Mic-level input and Line-level input, but NOT the levels coming out of a pickup. Anyone intending to use this with an electric guitar or bass (as I've seen in the other reviews) needs to realize that not all amps are the same. You need a real guitar amp to hook your guitar to, and you need a real bass amp to hook your bass to. You can certainly (as long as it has a line out) hook one of these amps to this headphone amp, but realize that you will need BOTH AMPS for that setup to work. If you're confused, go ask an audio engineer about signal levels.

Also note that this is a headphone amplifier; you cannot drive speakers with it! Get a power amplifier designed for speakers if you want that. I recommend the Lepai amp found elsewhere on Amazon.

In summary, an excellent PC headphone amp. Stereo TRS input is a definite plus!
