This is my honest opinion of these cans as I've used a number of headphones over the years primarily for DJing and Studio work and purchased these knowing I could always return them, which I did. I work with someone who uses the XD-53 and tried his out but never got to listen to them in a quiet room. Yes, they have big sound due to big drivers but that's not always a good thing.

Sound is very personal, everyone has a different opinion in sound quality. Some like a sharp flat sound, some like big room, big stage, booming sound.

PRO's

Metal Headband (HUGE for me because it's where I break every pair of $200 headphones)

Loud

Bass Overload (if you like that sort of thing)

Detachable Cable

CON's

Gunmetal looks even cheaper than the original silver on the original XD-53

Doesn't sound as good as the older version (Yes, they sound different regardless of what the specs say)

Big and can be uncomfortable for extended use

Too Loud (I couldn't get near the treble and sound desired without cranking volume)

Bass Overload (Drowns out everything else)

High End

Muddy Mids

I tend to lean towards a sound that has sharp crisp highs, good mids, and slightly above average bass but tight and not boomy. These drowned out everything even after giving them plenty of time to break in.

Other Thoughts (last 3 headphones tested):

Denon DN-HP1000 Always liked these headphones, much better sound compared to XD2-53 but broke 2 pairs in 3 1/2 years on the road.

Pioneer HDJ-1500 Good Sound but I worry about plastic breaking yet again on the headband. Returned them, not taking chance anymore.

HD25 1-II Returned the XD2-53 for these and couldn't be happier. Not overwhelming bass but the overall sound quality makes up for it not to mention light and comfy for my head. Knowing all parts are replaceable is a huge plus for me as I don't feel like shelling out 150-200 bux every year for another set of cans that will break where the rest all do. I will get more use of these everywhere (road/studio/DJ) and that plus the sound quality won me over.

Hope this helps.

These headphones look and sound great. The sound you get when listening to songs is pitch perfect, nothing to worry about in the quality of the sound the speakers have. The specs of these headphones are not a lie lol. As far as the look, they look much better than a lot of headphones ive seen, hell of a lot better looking than those dorky beats by dre lol. The gunmetal finish is pretty cool and the design is just excellent. The swivel is pretty nice too, very easy to put one speaker behind the ear for that one ear monitoring. The headphones are able to fold up too, which is a pretty cool feature and can be useful for those who travel a lot. It also comes with detachable cable, so dont worry if you break the wire, you can get a replacement! The wire it comes with is very strong, not weak and easy to break like other wires on headphones. The wire is also coiled, so you can stretch it pretty far too.

As for comfort, you simply have to break these headphones in a little bit for it to feel good (use them for about a week). The reason why i say this is because the speakers pop out slightly inside the cup, this causes parts of my ears to hurt a little after listening to songs for about 30min. Another thing is that the headband kinda feels tight but its cushioning compensates for that.

Dont worry, after using these for about a week i havent really felt any more discomfort with these headphones.

I listen mainly to electronic music on these, they are definitely the right pair of headphones for the job.

Id recommend these headphones to just about anyone, they are really cool looking and sound is great.

If you are wondering, the cost of these headphones are worth it, just like any other pro dj headphones.

You get what you paid for. These are headphones for djing or for just cutting out your wife's complaints. Never heard headphones like these i think if you turn these things all the way up. You can go deaf. Great product.

I was looking for a pair of headphones to replace my old Sony MDR-V500s (which I loved, but they finally fell apart after about 12 years...). I purchased a pair of the Sony MDR-V55s and was REALLY disappointed by them. But then I found out about the Allen & Heath Xone:XD2-53s and it seemed like exactly what I wanted. Similar form factor to the Sony MDR-V500/700, good sound, good contstruction... and in the main they fit the bill.

The sound is great so far, they're comfortable, and seem pretty sturdy. They also don't have the annoying creaking sound that my MDR-V500s had (which the MDR-V55s have too), so that's a win also.

Great pair of headphones. HIghly recommended so far, but I still need to take them out for a gig. I'm pretty confident about them, however, and think they will be just right.

My son picked these headphones out for Christmas. He researched headphones extensively and decided to go with these. They are comfortable..good sound..very good construction, versatile and sound deafening. He loves them! Also, the adapter so it can be used on different devices is a great feature!
