I was a little hesitant to pay $100 for this product, never having used one before, but as it turns out, the thing is completely great. I've been using this with an iPad and my solid-body electric harp (which works the same as an electric guitar) with excellent results. It's perfect for practicing late-night with headphones, and I've had great results recording via Garage Band. The free Ampli Tube app associated with the iRig is decent, too, but I prefer the output from Garage Band.

One of the concerns I had before purchasing this thing was that it might not be possible on the iPad to have the device running while switching between different applications. However, it is indeed possible to keep Ampli Tube or Garage Band running while you switch to other apps (i.e. forScore for sheet music, etc.).

If you're between this and the older, less expensive version that connects to your device via the headphone port, I'd definitely go with this one, as it would not be possible to use the old version simultaneously with headphones.
