There seems to be some confusion as to the purpose of this device. It is NOT designed for use with headphones. Headphones use two channels (left and right) so they need a stereo TRS (Tip Ring Sleeve) cable and NOT a mono TS (Tip Sleeve) cable. This splitter is a TS device so it will combine the left and right together if it is used with a stereo signal. It is, however, useful for single channel devices like guitars, microphones, or recording equipment that runs the right and left channels in separate cables. So just to summarize: Instruments good, headphones bad.Buy Hosa YPP111 1/4 inch TS Male to Dual 1/4 inch TS Female Y Cable - 6 Inch Now
uh... um.... uh... oh yeah... this plug makes it possible to plug two guitars into a single jack on an amp.... nice if your amp has just one jack and you want to play a duo w/ a friend.... works well, no prob.Read Best Reviews of Hosa YPP111 1/4 inch TS Male to Dual 1/4 inch TS Female Y Cable - 6 Inch Here
These little units are great for splitting a 1/4 inch signal, ie, playing your guitar/effects into two amps simultaneously. However I bought these for the opposite reason: to combine two signals. And for that purpose they are not very well-suited.I split my effects chain into dry and wet (before a volume pedal and delays) to control the amount of delay. Then I need to re-join the signal before my reverb. I'm not very knowledgeable of the electronics side of it but there are impedance issues at play here and it really screwed up my signal. There was awful feedback at any level of volume or delay and some other really weird issues going on. Fortunately I was careful and didn't blow up any of my pedals by cramming two inputs into one, but I believe there is potential to damage your effects in this manner. Just google "Why Not Wye" to read some articles about the issue if you're considering this--I wish I would have done so before buying these but I'm sure I can find another use for them sometime so it's not a total waste.
So basically, be careful if using this as a 2 in -> 1 out. It doesn't say it anywhere on the product page but these are meant for 1 in -> 2 out. I ended up getting a mini mixer unit to solve my problem and that works much better for combining signals safely and even allows for volume control on each input.

I wanted this so that my son and I could share an amp and play our electric guitars together. Works great, price was decent. we leave it plugged in all the time (even if only one of us is playing).I use these splitters with a modular synthesizer. There are dedicated modules (called multiples) to splitting signals, but sometimes you just need a quick connection or you run out of multiples.Definitely handy to keep several of these around.
