I have a nice big Laney amp, but I don't have room to keep it out all the time. Enter the Stack in a Box. This clips right on my guitar strap or on a belt, and I plug in and play, litening via headphones. The sound is really good, considering. The output can be run out to my stereo in the living room or to an amp where you can use the distortion to play around. Again, the quality is not as good as a pedal through an amp, but when space is tight, this is convenient and crisp. It stores right in the gig bag with the guitar or hangs easily on the strap when I have the guitar in use or resting on the stand. It is almost as convenient as playing my acoustic.

This is a blast to play with. I play my Strat and my older Carvin through this when I need to keep it quiet. Be careful that you don't get carried away with the volume or you'll feel like you just got home from a concert when you go to bed. I have had no feedback issues with it and I've been using mine for several years. great on battery life, too. This is a 70's rocker's dream come true because you can play clean, a little gain or full blown Marshall ecstasy, the choice is yours. I use my own Koss headphones and the results are outstanding.(to me anyway) Pick one of these up and you'll stay up way too late playing your axe, I promise.Read Best Reviews of Dean Stack in the Box: Includes Headphones, and Amplifier Here
i honestly didn't know what to expect but it worked. i don't know if all the ultra static and high pitch squealing was because of my guitar or the amp. i never heard it before in a regular amp.who knows, i basically muscled passed the squeals and it sounds great.
[squeals on distortion settings only...on clean it's great]

Arrived in a solid cardboard box easy to unpack.Installing the battery was simple (I remember reading someone's comments that they couldn't fit the battery in the box -I don't understand which planet they were on at the time of trying this), and it works well.
I thought having just the 2 volume settings might be a problem, but the low volume is just fine, and of course you can control the volume with the guitar. Distortion is good -basically it is a fun toy that has meant I've got out my guitar more often and had more fun then for many years. If you want to play "loud" guitar and not disturb others I recommend this product.A pretty basic little tool, but I've been impressed. I can practice my bass without bothering anyone. The unit and all of my cords seem to get tangled, but that's probably more my problem than the product. Maybe I should just practice more.
