TC Electronic has produced an absolute winner with the BG250 Bass Combo Amp. The 15" speaker just purrs with the low B on my 5 string bass guitars with lots of punch when needed. The EQ and TubeDrive controls have been able to dial any sound style from hard and gritty to warm and jazzy with ease. The Tone Print function was not a big buying factor but has proven a welcome addition. The stock Chorus effect had too much flange type warble for my taste but was easily swapped for a more suitable tone with many other free options available online. One HUGE plus has been the relatively light weight of this unit. Portability combined with the ample power output means it is convenient to move for jam sessions with friends and still be easily heard. The construction seems quite sturdy despite the lowered weight. I have cranked this beast and got no rattling from the cabinet or front metal grille. The balanced line out looks ideal for mixing into a PA system if needed. I use it to patch a signal directly into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2 In/2 Out USB Recording Audio Interface with excellent results. The built in tuner is also perfect for 5-string bass since it has low B through G strings. My wife greatly appreciates the headphone port so I can practice at night without disrupting the whole family. The BG250 has had one negative. Even at low volumes this thing rattled the snares on my cajon so badly the drum had to be moved to another room. Bottom line, I narrowed my search to the BG250, Hartke HyDrive 112c Bass Guitar 1x12 Combo Amplifier, 250 Watts and Fender Rumble 350 Bass Amplifier. The BG250 won my dollar votes with zero regrets. I needed some basic combo bass amp for my heavy rock band gigs. I have told my self that if I get to be louder than the guitarist in the band(not an easy task mind you) it would mean that I get to keep the amp. Sure nuff, this amp has squashed his very loud Mesa ...I am sold. The tone print feature is a nice touch, but I mostly use the built in chorus and the tuner. This is a very powerful light weight amp for an unbeatable price. Arguably the best bass amp of its class right now. I had a much higher end Phil jones suitcase before and I love this one much more.. I played bass for years in bar bands and built up a very nice 800w pro rig. But now that I am older and have back problems the weight of it is too much for me to lug around. I picked up this puppy a few months ago and am very pleased with it. It weighs less than a single piece of my big rig yet it produces enough sound to do the job. The tube emulator is nice. It allows you to dial in tube-like warmth like no other solid state amp I have tried. My big rig is driven by an Alembic F1-X preamp so tube sound is big to me. I played this amp at GC in Nashville when I was there. I was pretty impressed. It was cheaper, free shipping, no sales tax on Amazon so I ordered it the day I got home from tour. I'm now using this amp when I play local gigs with a Jazz combo I sit in with. Great value.
