It's built like a tank. It fell about 12 feet through a ceiling once (long story) and it's fine. I mean FINE! I used to have an SWR workingman's 10 with an extension cabinet and this single 12 sounded better. I've been playing bass since 1980.Rock,country,blues and jazz fusion.I've owned ALL brands of bass amps.None better than this one. Many of the BEST bass players in the world have one of these. I picked-up my first one in the early 90's and bought two more since, and the matching extension cab.Sometimes I do have to use a large rig for some gigs but this one is behind me on all of the others. It's not made for very loud thumpin' heavy rock, but this amp can be EQ'ed in for any style.Don't let the 150 watts(with extension cab.)fool you. This is a high current amp. About double the sound output of a normal amp. With the extension cab it holds its own side by side with a 300 watt combo.I've paid thousands of dollors for pre-amps and power amps that do not sound as good as this one. In my opinion this is one of the best bass amps on the market.Try one out you might like it!Read Best Reviews of Gallien-Krueger MB150S/112 Bass Guitar Combo (150 Watt) Here
The previous reviewer nailed it with respect to this amp's sound and popularity among professionals.I purchased mine used and at a substantially reduced price than listed. That is not to say that it isn't worth every penny of the listed street price because it is. What I most like about this amp is for musicians who understand dynamics and play music at volumes associated with a jazz quartet or quintet, or vocal-led blues band, this amp is more than adequate for inside venues of up to 100 audience members. And while it is relatively tiny (about the size of a small practice amp), it puts out sound and tone that is unmatched by many other amps that are much larger. I will say that for its small size it weighs a surprisingly, heavy 25 pounds.
Another key feature is this amp can be used as a head to power external cabs and do it nicely. I've used mine to power this: Seismic Audio 1x15 & 2x10 BASS GUITAR SPEAKER CABINET COMBO PRO AUDIO, and I have practically quit using my Fender Rumble 150 Bass Amplifier since the Gallien-Krueger MB150S/112 can actually compete with it while taking up much less stage space. Finally, this amp has an XLR out that allows you to expand your sound to a PA system (or recording suite), giving you more flexibility than a good many bass rigs on the market. I have also occasionally used it as a keyboard amp and it works very well with my Roland RD-300NX Digital Stage Piano.
As far as I am concerned, there is no downside to this amp, and it is one of the best purchases I have made.

This amp is worth every penny. Small, light, and packs a huge punch. Love the sound shaping features too. Really versatile from the bedroom to the stage.I have owned this amp since 1992 and have gigged with it at clubs, weddings, parties, rehearsals, theater work, etc. The amount of deep bass you get out of a single 12" speaker is truly incredible. And it's light, as it is just metal (no thick wood cabinet walls). I carry my bass with one hand and the amp with the other. And for those times when it wasn't quite enough, there is a DI out to send to the house board. Definitely the best portable amp around.
