I wanted to make sure to review this product because i couldn't find a review when i was looking.

I took the dive and brought this set because of the price range and the fact it has MIDI in and out.

Positives:

Pads respond very well to hits and velocity to Volume.

Frame is strong metal bars, some assembly required took me 30mins alone.

Foot pedals are light and react fast, not much pressure needed.

The sounds that the brain create are really good quality specially through monitoring headphones.

The midi works great with computer software. (delay in sound feedback is caused by additional midi interface not drum kit.)

Negatives:

In good quality headphones I can hear a radio station in the left ear very faint when not playing.

Through PC speakers the sound isn't loud enough and hiss is present when volume is full. same for basic headphones.

pedals need some rubber feet to stick to laminate and ceramic surfaces. they slide under foot pressure allot.

Over all I think this is a good buy for its price, the negatives can be overseen or fixed. some rubber pads from walmart or the hardware store will fix the pedals.

If you want to record and are just starting this is a good place to begin.

to record audio you need a cable.

to use MIDI controls you need a midi interface spend around $30 to $50 on this. the cheap don't give instant feedback.

I was looking for an inexpensive electronic drum set for my 13 year-old . I took my chances on the Pyle-Pro and was not disappointed. It was quickly shipped. Although it took a long time to assemble, it was not difficult (I am a 51 year-old woman). The realistic sound just amazed me. My son can also plug in his iPod using the little cable from his iDog, and play along to his downloads through the headphones. Having a small house, this set does not take up much space, and with his door shut, I barely hear a thing. Everyone is happy!

I've used both this PylePro kit and the ION Audio Sound Session Complete Electronic Drum Set ($199) as cheap drum kits for my beginner drum students, and the ION is definitely a better product, and worth the extra $20. Here's why the PED04 is not a good buy:

The hi-hat sound cuts off in the middle of the resolution of the sound byte, which always catches you off guard and is frustrating. The ION kit's open HH sound resolves sooner and doesn't jump out as an obvious annoyance.

The metronome click is this stone-age computer sounding tonal beep that is really annoying. The ION kit is a more standard click.

The wires are very flimsy and plug right into the front of the module, so you have a big mess of cords sticking out of the front. The ION wires are bundled together and plug into the back of the module with a single pin-connection unit.

The interface of the module screen reminds me of an ancient calculator; it's only in the upper right part in the picture, it looks like there's a big screen, but that black area is just plastic.

The last thing that sucks is that the bolts are not winged, they're just little sticks needing a hex tool to twist. The bolts also come covered in grease in a single bag. So you get your hands full of grease, and have to twist each one with the hex tool, which doesn't fit in most of the spaces you need to tighten. Most other e-kits including the ION one have winged bolts for easy setup.

The kit does work, but I think it's worth the extra $20 to get the ION kit. The other big advantage of the ION kit is that it has built-in songs with it to play along to, and you can turn the drums on or off.

Purchased the pyle pro as a practice set and was very surprised at the quality of the set. The heads respond quite well in sound and feel. The foot pedals aren't bad.. kinda like the rock band pedals... they respond just fine. While you only get 10 drum styles to choose from, they all sound great (through the right speakers). The metronome isn't the greatest, but you can easily go out and purchase your own. This is a good drum set to even jam at home with your friends and to practice without disturbing anyone. Assembly wasn't too difficult, but it did not come with the dvd mentioned on the amazon website. I don't think you really need it though.

Overall I think its a great set to start off with. It offers everything you need to get started without blowing your bank.
