This was a gift for our son who is a percussionist and a member of a jazz band. He is moving to an apartment and needed an authentic sounding drum set for practicing which would not be a problem for near by neighbors. He reports that with headphones he can practice and listen without disturbing anyone else.

I wanted a good set of electronic drums to play in my house without disturbing the whole family. I looked at a set of used Roland's but decided to buy a new set of Kat drums at a cheaper price. I don't think you can beat the Roland brand but you have to pay top dollar for them. I just wanted a quality product that sounded good for personal use. My brother owns a set of Roland td6 drums and he played a set of Kats and said he would opt to buy the new Kat over the used Roland's. I purchased the KT2 set and I must say I love them. All of the toms are dual heads and the controller is awesome. You can do just about anything you want to. Set up was very easy (about an hour). The only thing I can say that I'm not 100% happy with is the ride cymbal. It is not as loud as the crash but I ordered the expansion pack that includes another head and crash cymbal. I would defiantly recommend these drums!

First let me give credit where it is due. I have owned my KAT kit for about 3 1/2 months. Through the failure of first high-hat pad after about 2 months, then the main controller and high-hat pedal about a month later, the KAT company has been reasonable in replacing these items. However, now after about a week after playing "another" new high-hat pad, the pad has stopped working! Whether this is the pad or the main controller ("brain") I do not know. I have called the local music store where I had purchased the kit and he is going to call the company and have them send another pad. I am hoping that the company will continue to replace these items as they fail.

When I first purchased this kit I was very happy with the sound and the feel of most of the drums and cymbals. The only fault I found lied in the ride cymbal which tended to play at a much lower volume, and was less responsive than the rest of the components. Still, I accepted this flaw and was happy until the high hat pad stopped working. The volume on the pad kept falling and eventually the pad sent no signal at all. Even then, I understood that things happen and thought that it was just a matter of a bad pad. As I stated above, the company was reasonable in sending a new pad (it was the wrong pad, but they did send it). The next thing to go out was the high hat foot controller and "brain" (they were not certain which). I was told to bring the pad, wiring harness, main controller, and foot pedal to my local dealer which I did. The dealer checked out everything and called the KAT company stating that he was uncertain as to the cause of the problem. A couple of days later I received a call and was told that the company was sending out a new kit. Fair enough.

After about a week I received the new kit and set It up. Now, though suspicious of the quality based on recent experience, I was happy to have the new kit and hoped that all would go well with it. After about a week (probably 3 days of actual playing) the high hat pad is out again. As I stated above, the local dealer is going to ask them to send out another pad.

I am generally not one to write a bad review about anything. I don't like the idea of writing a review that may hurt a business just because I happened to get the one bad product they produced. However, with so many component failures in such a short time, I have to reasonable conclude that the KAT kits are just poorly made. While I don't expect a Roland kit at the price of the KAT, I do expect that a brand new kit would last more than a few months without multiple problems. Unless you want to potentially spend a lot of time waiting for replacement parts, and less time drumming, I would recommend avoiding this product.
