I'll keep this review pithy.

The reason a star got knocked off is, if one cranks up the gain above about 18-20, the unit starts to get noisy. But if one keeps the gain down, when calibrated, it's a very quiet Phantom Power Supply.

This is a budget minded power supply. It's what I consider to be well made so I'm not knocking the construction or anything else about the appliance. It's has a small footprint, is portable if you want to go into the field with your laptop to do onsite recording in stereo and with an adapter, is small enough to be mounted under a SLR camera.

I've used this unit with fifty foot balanced microphone cables and no troubles. For the price, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this unit for a close associate or friend. Nobody likes a lame recommendation so you bet I'd get grief for a bad recommendation. In my opinion, if one wants better then this, they're going have to pay a lot more to get more signal amplification and still maintain a low noise threshold.

Hope the above helps.
