Recieved my Zoom R16 a week ago and have been playing with it ever since. Not real easy to use you will have to read the complex manual (good luck on understaning it). I've been using an old Tascam 4 track that I used for years but this zoom is much better and I was very happy to upgrade. It's very clean and quiet. Not sure how using the SD cards is going to work out. I'll have to give it some time. It interfaces well with my laptop and the software that comes with it makes it easy to store and transfer music to a computer so you can e-mail, burn CDs or build WAV files. Once you figure out how to use the effects and the channel swap, you can really make some head way in recording. This unit will take you several weeks to learn to use (roughly). Definitely check out the YouTube how to vids.
The Samson head phones that came with the package deal are cheap and I won't end up using them. I suggest investing in a good higher end set of head phones. These really are bottom of the barrell. Having the extra cables and 8GB SD card(that comes in the bundle deal)is great. All in all this is a great little travel/portable recording studio. You can do so many things with it: you can record live (up to 8 channels..well 6 really) Channell 7 and 8 are designated built in, external mikes. You can make you own digital CDs, transfer external files into your Zoom to assist with recording/developing songs. My brother has the Tascam DP003 and he loves it. He loves the ability to burn a CD (on the unit) once he's done mastering. This zoom has so many more features than the Tascam, It has hundreds of built in effects (for vocals and guitars). The mastering effects are just as good if not better than the Tascam. All in all, I think this is a great mid level unit. Obvioulsly more dollars will buy you more.
