This little unit is great for a beginner or someone on the go because it uses software as your music and effects source. I just hook it up to my laptop, pick some songs, and I'm good to go. The keys are map able so you can customize the controller, which is something you may wish to do when choosing effects. It comes with virtual dj LE edition, which is good, but you're probably going to want to upgrade to pro edition, which is about $50. Virtual dj has great functionality and is controllable by the unit. It also comes with a headphone piece so you can just use normal headphones instead of having to by dj ones if you're just going to use this at home. You'll probably want speakers; I just hook it up to my home Hi-Fi system. Great for anyone who wants to be a bedroom dj, do gigs at places like weddings, bars, house parties. However if you're working a club you should probably have more advanced gear. I would say the only drawback is the limited functionality on the effects side of things. No sample buttons, no kill switches, ect. However there are four effects specific buttons and you can map things to them, otherwise you can still control all this via the mouse/keyboard/software. Also the unit is quite light in weight, seems pretty sturdy, and comes with a hard plastic cover, which is great. In the end I think it's a great buy for someone on the go or a beginner, I know I'll probably bring it to parties and have some fun.

It's a good value and a great product. The only thing I wish it had was dedicated gain knobs. The software does do auto gain on both decks, but I prefer some more manual control. Speaking of the software, it's pretty good but they want a whopping $150 to upgrade to the pro version. The version you get is "last years" 6.x version (update it from virtualdj.com to the latest 6.x) but if you want 7.x Pro you need to pay $150. You can download a trial of 7.x but it only lets you use your controller for 10mins before disabling it. You can use a keyboard and mouse to keep trying it out for an unlimited amount of time.

The main thing that's frustrating is you can't do any options/preferences at all with the version that comes with the controller, not even remapping a button or knob. As much as I want to remap, I can't see paying $150 just for that! The other missing features vs. pro are mainly a playlist and automixing. You wouldn't want to use automixing for an actual event, but it would be nice to have for a house party when you want to go mingle with friends. Also support for videos is only in pro, that's something I couldn't care less about.

I do wish the jog/scratch controllers were a little smaller or there was a little more space between the wheels and volume controls, I've accidentally hit it a few times but I don't scratch I just want them for jog wheels. Scratchers probably prefer the size as it is. I use the volume controls to mix rather than the crossfader for a bit more finite control over the mix.

Be careful about ground hum, if your laptop has a two prong power adapter you are more prone to it. Get yourself a ground loop isolator to fix this problem.

The first thing I noticed about the MK4 when I took it out of the box is how small it is. This thing really is tiny, and that's the point. You can sling this unit over your shoulder or slide it into your laptop bag and be on your way. Hercules even includes a nice plastic cover to protect the top surface. While it happens to also have shoulder-strap clip points on it, and they make mention of this in the packaging, said strap is oddly omitted from the box.

The MK4 is fairly simple to use, and is designed to pair perfectly with the included VirtualDJ LE software. It can be mated with other packages like Megaseg or Traktor, and one can grab keymapping templates for the latter from the Hercules website. Speaking of the website, whether you be on MacOS or PC, you'll want o be sure that you install the drivers that came with the rig right away -andlet it run through any software and firmware updates.

The DJ Console MK4 has a fantastic sound card in it; better than you might assume given its size, price and mainly plastic construction. It's the audio components that really make this kit a bang-for-the-buck. While you get the expected main and headphone outs, you're also gifted with a second set of RCA outputs that can be routed to booth monitors, etc. Additionally, the MK4 comes with two pair of RCA inputs, which can be set for turntable, consumer or "pro" input levels. And, yes, my vinyl loving mates, those inputs can be used to take in time-code platters for scratching.

While I'm only into the first few days with my MK4, it has turned out to be rather feature-rich for the price. Portability is it's forte', though. If you're turned off by the small jog wheels and the rather annoying rotary pitch control, choose carefully. Still, finding a controller that does all that this does for under $200 is going to be a challenge.

I bought this as I was curious about DJing. I wasn't focusing on buying an expensive set until I knew this was more than just a hobby for me. The MK4 helped me make that decision. Although it isn't professional grade, it's PERFECT for beginners, I wouldn't recommend this for pros. It does all the basic functions, comes with VDJ LE, but the pro version far exceeds the LE version. I would def make this purchase again if I was starting out, but not anymore, I needed to upgrade after about 6 months of use. It's very well built, and surprisingly has a very good sound card built it. BUY for any aspiring DJ, or beginner.

I read a lot of the reviews on this product before i bought it so i was a little skeptical about what it's performance would be like.

All i can say is it definitely gets the job done and works flawlessly with virtual DJ.

I have it hooked up to a 500 watt active behringer pa system and it totally rocks.

It feels a bit flimsy so i would not recommend doing any scratching on the unit or constantly moving it from location to location. I have had mine for just a few weeks and already the mid equalizer button no longer works but the good news is you can map the buttons so i was able to compensate for that.

Overall, it's a decent product i just don't know that it can stand regular use so if you do, i recommend you get the 3 year protection plan to go with it

In an unrelated topic: DO NOT ORDER from factory depot. I'm going through hell returning my unit for a replacement and as a tip to everyone who is buying on amazon, do a google search of the actual seller to see how well they handle problems and do not rely just on amazon reviews which for the most part is when everything goes smoothly

This is the first high quality mic I've bought, and it has worked extremely well so far. I've been recording in my garage which probably isn't the best place to record but it has done very well. My voice comes out very clear and I hardly hear any hissing or popping while singing (of course because of the sound bouncing off my walls there is extra noise coming in). I've recorded some piano, guitar and other music with it and it works well for those as well.

Even though it is bulky u can hold it and sing if you have to. I bought a heavy duty On Stage MC7201B Round Base Microphone Stand to use it on and it works great. I haven't noticed any vibration problems so I'm holding off on buying a suspension mount.

This microphone eliminates all pops and hisses for voice-overs that I used to have with a fairly expensive Plantronics headset mike. My only complaint is that this Shure mike is too heavy for most goose-neck mike stands and it is too bulky to hold in one's hand.

Product works well, very clear sound pickup. Sensitivity is a bit poor though. When speaking softly it is difficult to achieve -10 dBFS.

Not as sexy as a baby bottle mic or retro-styled sphere, but this mic lives up to its reputation for sensitivity and responsiveness. I am amazed by what it picks up. In terms of finish, the knurled dial that controls the gain had some slight finish defects, but these are only visible if you look closely. I generally leave the gain at one position and adjust everything from my computer. The light is useful to let you know roughly when you are in the clipping danger zone. Given its sensitivity, you need to be very careful if attaching a headphone to the jack in the mic itself. I would only do so for some initial checks or in a very loud environment where occasional taps or the headphone cable against the mic would not be noticed.

In looking at a number of microphones I first made use of the Heil which I have now sent back, and the Rode USB which I think is great as is this one. What I like about it is that you can simply place it on the desk and you do not have to sit on top of it and the sound that comes out of it is excellent. I have one of the similar microphones that has the integrated USB connection by Shure which has some hiss. This one is virtually silent and I must say that it has been a pleasure to make use of it with videos and podcasts. I mainly use it when I am doing videos and I do not want the microphone in front of my mouth and still want a nice stereo sound. In general I would say that it is an excellent product which produces a good sound.

If you are going to make voice-overs on top of PowerPoint slides and you are going to do anything into the computer my advice is to make use of a direct USB connection without making use of an external soundcard. It seems to add in an extra element of sound if you do it that way with no advantage. I saw a podcast that has recommended the exterior card solution and a Heil microphone, but I cannot say that that was a good way to go. I did try an external Rode with the soundcard and agrees a lot better but not as good as a USB version. I cannot say that I think that the Rode or Shure is better, as each has its uses. I have tried a wide variety of wireless microphones but all seem to be mono. Also when you amplify the voice without music is exterior hiss.

I'm a guy in my late 30s who's never learned to play any musical instruments or learned to read music or had any kind of musical training. I've always wanted to learn piano, though. So when my toddler son got a kid's keyboard from his grandmother for Christmas, it rekindled my interest and I started looking around Amazon.com to see if I could find something that'd work for me (hey, I'd cheerfully have co-opted my son's keyboard--goodness knows he got enough loot for Christmas--but the keys were too small/narrow for my hand; it's a kid's keyboard, after all).

I came across this Yamaha YPT-210 keyboard, and the price really surprised me. I didn't know full-sized keyboards from a reputable company could be gotten so affordably. It was also on a Friday sale, so that helped even more. So I went ahead and bought it.

Now, keep in mind that I'm pretty much an ignoramus when it comes to music, or portable keyboards, or quality of voices and songs and instruments and all that fancy stuff I'm just learning. All I can say is this: WOW. This thing sounds great. The Grand Piano mode sounds just like, well, a grand piano. Now, I'm sure Ms. Mitsuko Uchida (hey, I may be a musical ignoramus, but I do like to listen to classical music and have a decent collection) or even the music teacher at the local high school down the road will have no problem distinguishing this from a "real" piano, but it sounds great to me, and for my first keyboard, I'm just astonished by the quality of the sound coming out of the stereo speakers.

Then there are a multitude of instruments, sound effects, voice clips, noises. The variety feels a bit overwhelming to me, but I understand that this is one of the most basic portable keyboards Yamaha makes and the fancier models have even more. Yikes.

It comes with over 100 songs built in, all of which is available via the built-in Yamaha Education Suite (YES) 5 tutorial for you to try to learn to play. The YES works like this: 1. You listen to the song and get a feel for it; 2) you work on the tempo and try to press the right key at the right time; 3) then you actually play the piece, to the accompaniment of background beat and supporting music. The way step 3 works is that the keyboard waits for you to press the right key in right sequence. This is harder to explain than it actually is to do in real life. Say a song calls for "do-re-mi" sequence. If you press "do-do-re-re-do-mi," then only the first do, and first re, and first mi will play and sound. Of course your pressing all the other keys throw your tempo out of whack, and at the end of the piece, you get a rudimentary grade of how you did (OK/Good/Very Good/Excellent--Yamaha apparently believes in positive reinforcements only). Like I said, it sounds cumbersome explaining it with words, but in practice, it works surprisingly well. I was able to get a passable (for me) rendition of "Oh Susanna" going after only a few tries.

The YPT-210 has 102 built-in songs for you to learn to play, using the Yamaha Education Suite. The songs are separated into left and right hand parts, providing 7 levels of lessons plus a convenient chord dictionary.

Three keyboard lessons for each hand:

* Lesson One LISTEN & LEARN the melody or rhythm of a selected song

* Lesson Two TIMING mode allows you to play the melody or chord by pressing any key using the correct timing

You can either use six AA sized batteries or the supplied AC adapter. Be careful to make sure that the YPT-210 you're getting comes with an adapter; apparently there are versions of the YPT-210 that does not include the adapter. The manual recommends alkaline batteries, and warns that using rechargeable batteries may result in sudden loss of power when the charge becomes low (as opposed to alkalines, where the power loss would be gradual). I've tested it at home using six 1.2V NiMH AA batteries (the ubiquitous type used for digital cameras), and the keyboard worked fine. As long as, say, you're not performing in front of a crowd, I'd imagine using rechargeable batteries would be fine, especially if you don't have a ready power outlet near where the keyboard is.

The keyboard has connections for headphones, a foot sustain pedal, and computer MIDI interface, but the latter two are far, far down the road for me. I have found the headphone plug to be very useful, as I like to do most of my practicing late at night after the family's gone to bed.

Not having any experience with a regular piano, I can't really compare how the keys on this keyboard feels compare to a piano. All I can say is it feels good to me. The keys are firmly responsive when you press down on them. Again, I'm sorry I can't offer any meaningful contrasts; it feels comfortable and good to me as someone who's just starting out with it.

The only gripe I have so far is the volume control. It resets itself to a default volume every time you turn it off! The default volume happens to be fairly loud, and I do most of my piano practice (sounds fancy already!) late at night, so I've often found myself wishing for a volume control memory. If you hold down the "Volume" button while powering the keyboard on, then it starts at a lower volume, but it's not as convenient as having it remember the volume setting. One way to get around this that involves a bit of equipment is to connect the keyboard to a receiver or tabletop stereo that has line-in for audio. Then the keyboard volume will always stay at the default (loud) setting, but you can control the volume on the receiver/stereo end.

Also, what this keyboard isn't: Keeping in mind that this is one of the most basic/affordable keyboards that Yamaha makes, I consider the fact that it doesn't include a sequencer (recording your playing) or strength-responsive keys (the keys sound the same, whether you press softly or forcefully) to not detract the overall value and performance of the keyboard.

All in all, I am very, very happy with this keyboard and look forward to learning to play piano/keyboard on it.

This Yamaha keyboard features a large array of features, such as voices, sound effects, and background accompaniments. The sound is nice too. However, most of these features will never be used. I would prefer that in lieu of these features, Yamaha puts in volume sensitive keys instead. Overall though, a big bang for the buck. There are negatives however: The icons above each key that show what each key does, for some inexplicable reason, are black in color...and the surface these icons are molded is also black. Needless to say, black on black does not make for easy viewing! Then there is the display. It is not lighted and it is very small, making it very difficult to see, especially when trying to follow the keys being playing on the tiny graphical keyboard in the display. The headphone jack is located at the rear of the unit. That means the wire gets in the way of the keyboard. Obviously, it should be located in the front or side, not the rear. Bad design there. Lastly, the instructional DVD is not specific to this model. In fact, this particular model was not even covered in the DVD, which appears to be the same one distributed with all Yamaha keyboards of this type.

I bought this for my 6 year old daughter who is learning the violin. Even without formal piano lessons, she loves this keyboard. She's learning music and the keyboard displays the notes on the display. There are various songs and voices to explore. The included power adapter is a plus as this unit burns through batteries very quickly.

After purchasing, I found this keyboard relatively uncomplicated to use, especially since it lacks the thousands of options that you can get in an advanced workstation or synthesizer. In other words, a great beginner's keyboard which was exactly what I was looking for. Plays with a clear, pure sound and contained enough programmed effects to keep me happy. Perfect for those who are playing for fun, not for an audience. My only complaint is that I thought the Y.E.S. teaching system was pretty worthless, but anyone with some type of musical background should be able to figure out what they are doing after a couple of seconds. Otherwise, you can always invest in some lessons =)

When I saw this the price of this Yamaha at 79.99 I had to buy this before it goes up in price especially with the stand which came up in total of 109.98, so that was an actual steal. Enough about price, the style the melodies I play really sounds great from this keyboard, which I didn't doubt whether it sounded bad. Great product to buy.

This mixer has great feautures for the bedroom dj looking to make a jump. The effects are cool and add a little flavor to your mixes. It has a real old school feel, which I love. OK, you have been shopping for cables to finish off your new home theater system and time after time a salesperson tells you about MONSTER cables. Well, when it comes to HDMI or Red/Blue/Green component cables, getting something nice with gold fittings is the way to go but spending big bucks to buy the MONSTER brand name is way over rated. Search our some similar but way cheaper cables on Amazon.com. Now regarding these optical cables. Brand means nothing. Transferring a light signal is transferring a light signal. A gold fitting means squat. As long as the optical cable you buy delivers the light signal from a cable box to your TV or audio system, you good to go. Example, I purchased a MONSTER Cable on sale for $38 bucks before I saw this cable on Amazon.com. Glad Circuit City has a 30 return policy with receipt because I sure used it. Once my less then less than a buck optical cable arrived and I saw that it delivered a light signal just like the MONSTER cable with the MONSTER price did, I returned that overpriced cable faster than you can say jack rabbit. When installing your optical cable, look close at the shape of the fitting and the shape of the whole it goes in. Kinda trick to make sure you are placing it in correctly and push it in snug. Do not jam it in without lining up which side is up. Also, do not crimp the cable. You are dealing with fiber optics here so keep the cord from bending at a sharp able to keep your light passageway from getting blocked. ENJOY AND SAVE BIG BUCKS.

I have a Sony STR-K760P receiver with 6.1 channel surround. I'm feeding my DVD in through digital coax, but my DirecTV and XBox both supply Dolby Digital 5.1 via optical output only. While these cables seem a bit delicate (I certainly wouldn't want to step on them, and I was careful not to bend them around sharp corners during setup) they work perfectly! Digital is all-or-nothing, either you get the full signal or you don't. There's no need to buy $20 $50 digital optical cables from Monster or any other manufacturer, these will work great. My XBox sounds amazing when playing DD 5.1 games.

Talk about tripping the light fantastic! I really LOVE this laser!

The first time I saw this type of "web" effect laser used was in the movie, Logan's Run, where Logan was hooked up to the evil interogation computer which he destroyed with his thoughts. I think it was also used in a teleporter scene too. Not sure.

It's amazing what one can do with a simple, rotating bit of rippled glass, and a few lasers.

The Micro Hympnotic really is a fantastic addition to any effects lighting setup. As a performer, I was looking for something to balance out the other flashy lighting. This laser really fits the part as a slow moving, steady ambient effect.

I like that you can manually switch between the red and green lasers, or have them both on, and control the rotational speed of the glass disc inside. The ability to change the direction of the gobo rotation is a nice touch.

Don't stop with just this laser. You absolutely will get a fantastic laser show going if you add a couple of other lasers to the mix. I'm also using a cheap 30 dollar laser sphere to add in the blue atmospheric effect that would normally come with the 300 dollar and 600 versions of the Atmospheric RG, and Hypnotic RGB lasers. Of course, the laser sphere is quite dim compared to the micro hypnotic, but it really goes well if you park the laser sphere next to a wall, and use it as an uplight, while the micro hypnotic is parked a few feet or more from the same wall.

Overlayed on these laser patterns, I'm using a cheap 30 dollar Instapark starry effect laser which I've set to sound active mode so it only pulses on when it hears the beat of the music. That way, things don't look too busy, or complex.

I have my micro hypnotic set to auto mode so it alternates between the colors (it also mixes them at times), and I've got the gobo rotation set to it's slowest speed for maximum ethereal effect.

Even set at just 2 or 3 feet from the wall, the hypnotic produces a nice 3 or 4 foot wide area of laser effects.

I highly recommend that if you can at all afford it, you get the micro hypnoitic, and then add the 300 dollar ADJ Atmospheric RG, and set the rotations to be opposite eachother for a really cool effect.

My only druthers are that ADJ switch from the 650 nm red laser diodes to the brighter looking 670 nm diodes. Also would be even better if the switching between the red and green lasers would be gradual rather than abbruptly switching. A program that would also fade in and out of each color would really be nice. However, we'll gladly make do with this model untill then. :)

By the way, the only thing ADJ got incorrect was the statement that these were class IIIA lasers. Actually, they're not. They're class IIIB type lasers due to their output power. ADJ needs to correct this oversight. Other than that, this is one fantastic effects laser! I highly recommend it.

Hard to think that back in the 90s I paid 6,000 dollars for a 40 mW HeNe laser to produce holograms with professionally. That laser was 4 feet long. Now you can hold in the palm of your hand, a device that houses a couple of 30 or 40 mW lasers, and an 80 mW laser for just a couple hundred bucks or less! Amazing! :)

I do like the little remote that comes with it. The buttons are well marked, and easy to use. I don't like the battery. Hard to find those.

If you're looking for a well made laser at a resonable price, this is it! It's great for a small club or haunted house or even for a mobile DJ. Nice intense beams of light in red and green that produce a "Spirograph" type effect on walls, floors or wherever you focus it. Add a fog machine or hazer and the beams of laser light really stand out.

Another great addition to our lighting for our band. When it's dark enough the red does show up decently. The green is a bit brighter but not a huge deal breaker for me. Add some smoke and just doubles the effect of this laser as you see lots of beams through the room. Looks awesome on a wall for that added effect. The remote works well. Only thing is you can't adjust the speed of the gobo. You'll have to set it when set the laser up. Also this does not cover a large area compared to other lasers unless you have it set up far away from the wall.

I bought this product used and the remote came lacking a battery, so that is kind of a bummer, but I ran it for a few hours last night and it was very cool. I couldn't believe how large the "web" was with the laser sitting about 12 feet from the wall. Definitely will move it closer to get a more concentrated effect. For just $100 it is a very good product. I have mine set up in the same room as a Chauvet Min laser RGX 2.0. Next in my collection will be a Min laser RGB!
