I bought this as an easy portable way to amplify my solid body acoustic electric (with mini speakers I use [[ASIN:B00065XSP8 Macally Podwave Portable Stereo Speakers for iPod and MP3 Players (White)]) but I'm sure any would work] for just playing and singing with friends. I'd tried battery operated guitar amps but they really sounded muddy and didn't fit inside the instrument case. This setup fits right in the case with plenty of room to spare. What I'm really amazed by is how great it sounds for ten bucks. I didn't have terribly high expectations, but this unit certainly exceeded them. I did try it out, by the way, with an electric, and while you won't mistake it for an actual acoustic, it'd would be plenty adequate for song-writing, playing around.Bottom line, I can't believe how good this thing sounds, and I can't believe that Vox tries to get thirty bucks for these things. And if you own an older SST (I think the new Epiphone's have a built-in headphone amp--you'd just need tiny speakers) or Parker with a piezo, this will make your amazing ax as much fun around the house as your annoying cousin's crappy First Act.Good for basic practice but when you hook the aux cable and headphones up it is kind of a tangled mess of wires hanging off the butt of your guitar. I've not used it long enough to say how long batteries last. The unit is a little vulnerable to bumps and hits hanging off the bottom of the guitar but still I think it is a very cheap and useful gadget for a quick plugin and play item. This is a cheap solution to a simple problem.
It does the job it claims but there is quite a bit of noise that you hear over the headphones even with the volume all the way down.
But for 10 bucks I can't complain too much.I used this on my bass with headphones, mostly because I couldn't afford to buy a $100 amp on top of the guitar. I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. Yes, it works with a bass, and sure the tone is not as rich as I hoped. But for a pocket amp that fits in the palm of your hand, it helps you practice without disturbing others. It also has an AUX jack where you can plug in your computer or MP3 to play along with songs or listen to instructions on video. That was a very handy feature. Well worth the $12 I paid for it and then some.I use this compact device with my Traveller Guitar when I'm on the road and want to play quietly. Also use the guitar in the passenger seat on long cross-country road trips.
Excellent value for the price.
