Received the Samson SR950 Professional Studio Reference Headphone from Amazon and have been very pleased with this newer offering from Samson. One will find the headphone assembly quality to be excellent. As I have several sets of the earlier Samson SR850 headphones, a side-by-side comparison may be useful for those considering the SR950. These two models sound quite differently.

I found the initial usage and wearing of the SR950 to be a bit too tight in pressure across the head, but this was easily remedied by carefully flexing out the wire headband holding the left and right drivers. The optimum tension will eventually be found, and this, along with the nicely veloured earcups, will allow for extended listening periods comfortably. These phones are also comfortably lightweight in design as well.

Compared to the SR850, the SR950 has a generously extended lower end frequency response such that extremely low sounds, such as the lower 32-foot organ pedal pipes and other rumbling echoes in a large cathedral, are easily heard in the recorded material. The same effects, while good with the SR850, are not so prominently registered.

The SR950 also varies significantly with the SR850 in the midrange frequency range. The SR850 has a [some would say `pleasing'] presence to it which indicates a notable frequency emphasis in the 2 to 5 khz range. The SR950 seems to have a much flatter response in this area, which translates to a more natural sounding impression. For some very bright material, I found listening with the SR850 to be somewhat tiring after long periods because of this midrange emphasis. For the SR950, this was not an issue.

In the very high ranges, I could tell no meaningful differences between the two models. Possibly for the SR950, there is a slight emphasis in the 8 to 12 khz range. Others with better ears may be able to detect whatever slight variations there may be.

In summary, both the SR850 and SR950 are great values for the money and arguably are among the best choices of any available professional headphone regardless of price. As a recording engineer, and after listening to both models, my preference would be for the SR950 due to its relatively flat response curve. But I would also argue that for some recorded material the SR850 does shine fabulously. Ideally, one should have both of these headphones and choose as is appropriate.

Definitely technicians Samson finally they give the step required to complement or enhance the excellent performance of SR850 ..

By improving significantly the SR950 bass and mids and designing closed, have produced a very comprehensive set of headphones, taking into account that are not exactly HiFi, if not monitoring what they which provide spectacular sound clarity and very complete.

Their relationship bass-mids-treble,very good confort and its affordable price. is what will make these headphones are must-have for anyone wanting to really hear and feel the music without having to borrow from the bank mortgaging his house to get some good auriculares.5 stars for SAMSON
