Overall it is pretty impressive for a low budget studio. Here's some pros and cons:Pros
comes with PodFarm software (big variety of effects and amp models)
comes with RiffWorks (drum machine and recorder)
comes with some other software too ;)
lets you get idea of how a wide variety of effects sounds
Cons
can be a little tricky to set up and register
tech support is a little weak (they incorrectly say it replaces your soundcard)
the quality of the effects is about an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10 (clean sounds are great, but distortions and delays sound cheap)
Notes: it may replace your sound card, but only if you set it up that way. I think it's bad for the tech support people to use that phrase, because it does NOT have to replace it. For example, on my BGears Enspirer (the setup was a bit tricky) but you actually can hear sound from computer speakers and the signal out at the same time. In fact, thats how you use RiffWorks! I just think their tech support forum is geared towards the most common hardware, but it's wrong to claim "the UX1 replaces your sound card".
Also, about the effects, any of the clean effects sound pretty good. But with any heavy distortion it gets muddy and just doesn't sound quite like a Marshall. ;) And with the digital delay effects, they are pretty cheap really, eventhough they look fancy. It's easy to muddy them up when you mix much in. Even on a high end PC, I give the clean effects a 9 out of 10. The distortion is about a 7/10, and delay is about 6/10. Overall it's pretty fun though (esp for the price!), but it just not sound the same as high end stuff. ;)This interface was a great purchase. Vocals are loud, clean right from the getgo, even on a decent mic. It seems to be made kind of cheap (plastic knobs and a very light, weak encasement) but that doesn't matter, it works great. The software comes with a plethora of cabinets/effects/ presets for the unit, which I use for my bass. For this price this unit is a great deal. Following the instructions, I had this up and running within Sonar within 5 minutes. When this is plugged into your computer, it becomes the output for your sound by default. Obviously, you'll need a set of headphones or a monitor if you want to hear it (the POD has inputs for this). Just unplug the POD when done and your standard sound card takes back over. If you are using just a standard sound card to do recordings, you definitely need to get this or something similar.
Also, this is Vista 32/64 compatible (I'm using it on 64bit with no probs).

This is one of the best investments I have ever made. I have owned this for quite some time now and this unit is awesome. The sounds that come out of it are the best I have ever heard and for the cost you can't beat it. It's like having thousands of dollars of the best equipment at your disposal at any time you need it. I haven't had any issues with it at all, it has worked awesome!!Want Line 6 POD Studio UX1 Discount?
I needed a device to allow me to continue working at home while most of my "studio" was being used somewhere else. This little beauty was offered to me by the local guy and I thought, OK, I'll give it a go. Well, it solved a couple of mind-blocks I'd been having because it made me work a little differently. And on top of that it saved me from losing work at home. It sounds great, it loaded easily and it's fun to use. It doesn't have phantom power but that's not the end of the world I found. I recommended it to a good friend and he was glad I did!!!here is how i set up the ux1 with my macbook pro running lion os.1) went on line6.com and downloaded/installed pod farm 2.
2) connect my electric guitar to the ux1 via a standard electric guitar cable.
3) connect the ux1 to the usb port of my apple macbook pro (running lion os) using a midi to usb cable (provided)
4) you can immediately start playing using the effects on pod farm 2.
5) i like to record using garageband. you can run garageband and record while using pod farm 2.
6) i also played around with guitarport online. for guitarport online, you have to download gearbox from line6.com. it is a separate software from pod farm 2.
overall, very easy setup on my macbook pro (lion os).
