The electric violin arrived and worked perfectly with the exception of the bow which was entirely too loose to even play properly. Luckily replacement Cecilio bows are relatively cheap so I ordered 2, and used my spare bow from my acoustic violin. It is not completely silent (the strings are still vibrating in the air), BUT it is quiet enough to practice in a closed room across the hall from someone awake and them not hear you. The sound does not resonate through the instrument but rather across the electric pickup, which is volume controlled into headphones or a speaker. The headphones it comes with are really cheap, I'd recommend a pair of Sony's for $12. If you are purchasing this to play in a dorm room or similar situation, be aware that if you have a roommate in the same room they will hear you (and its all faintly buzzing notes, like sawing, which can get aggravating if they're trying to study), but your neighbors will not.

Very well crafted as an instrument. The pickup's tone isn't that great but ran through an effects processor or to a PA with a good EQ and reverb, it sounds very nice and has gotten some great compliments. I highly recommend this product.

This Electric Violin is no Stradivarius but for well under $100 it is much better then I expected.

Perfect for the intermediate student who wants to experiment or for the novice who just wants to play around with an electric Violin.

It came with everything needed to get started and though I am not a professional violin player, I am and have been a professional musician and music teacher for almost 30 years.

It is just what I expected and wanted and the quality was surprisingly good.

Amazing buy for a great product. It came on time and was packed well. I have shown this to several musical friends and they are all jealous of the great violin for an incredible price. I have always wanted to learn to fiddle so the left-hand versus right-hand 'thing' is not an issue for me. I will update as I learn to play.

The violin arrived quickly and was in excellent condition, however it was set up as a right handed instrument. That is to say, that you finger the strings with the right hand and the bow work is done by the left hand. This is completely opposite from the traditional way to play a violin. Thankfully Amazon is easy to deal with when it comes to products that are not properly described. I would definitely say it is a quality electric violin, but as a traditional player I was quite confused by the prospect that it was "backwards." It is my mistake for not double checking everything, but the lack of a more detailed description lead to the assumption it was a standard violin. Oh well. =)

There is really a whole lot to like about the Sport-Fi S6P. To begin, you get a lot of goodies for your buck. You get the in-ear headphones, a microphone, remote volume control, and an armband. Oh, and a nice carrying case, one that's small enough to fit in a purse or a jacket pocket.

The sound quality is surprisingly good given that the entire package is so inexpensive. Does it compare to my very expensive Klipsch headphones? No. But as I said, for such a low price, the sound is amazingly good. Additionally, the in-ear earphones do a nice job of canceling out mild ambient noise, such as traffic, overhead planes, and wind. This is a biggee if you're a jogger.

I'm a martial artist so I put on the armband with my iPhone secure in the pocket, wrapped what they call the "memory wire" around my ears, and commenced to have a hard solo workout. I practiced a variety of hand techniques in the air, starting slowly and progressing to all-out speed, and then moved over to the heavy bag and pummeled away. The armband held my phone securely for my entire training session and the in-ear headphones remained in place too.

I didn't have any problems wearing the unit while doing yard work and, of course, no problems kicking back on the sofa listening to my tunes.

Highly recommended.

I have a pair of MEElectronics Sport-Fi S6 and I love them. Because of this, I was eager to try the S6P with the phone control and in a different color. Just like the standard S6, these didn't let me down.

The Pros:

The sound is fantastic. It doesn't matter how you eq your music, these sound exactly how you want them to.

Great for running. I sweat a lot, and these don't budge.

Controls are right where they need to be. No need to touch your phone to take a call, pause/play music, skip tracks....

Very stylish

Carrying case is better now than it was with the original S6. The original was a little too bulky.

Arm band is also better than the original S6 armband. You can see your phone's screen on this one, and control it while it is in the arm band. The hidden key slot is a genius feature. It will also fit any arm..... big, small, you name it.

The extension cable makes it so you can use the headphones with your phone in your pocket or shorten the cable to use it with the arm band.

Sound isolation is great as well. These do not cancel outside noise, but they do a heck of a job isolating it. I use these on airplanes and swear by them.

Cons:

-The only con is that the arm band doesn't really fit in the carrying case. It fits around it very nicely, but not inside it. I don't really consider this a con because if the arm band fit in the case, the case wouldn't be as small and streamline. Personally if I am carrying them in the case, I'm probably traveling and wouldn't have the arm band with me anyway. Again not much of a con.

Conclusion:

BUY THESE HEADPHONES. They sound great, they look great, they perform great, they come with more than you could ever ask for.

MEElectronics Sport-Fi 26P are AWESOME. I've used their previous version and those were amazing as well, but the fact that I can now even use my phone and answer calls? It's great! VERY VERY Pleased by the quality of build, sound, and aesthetics.

My favorite features:

Behind-The-Ear molding wires: makes for an amazing fit and it stays secure. When I'm at the gym I do a lot of plyometric exercises and my favorite is to jump rope, I've never once had an issue with fitment and stability with these.

Sound Quality: Beats my Sony's any day. Clear sound, just the right amount of bass for me on my standard EQ settings. Great frequency range too.

Clips: What makes these earphones so unique to me are the clips. I can clip the cable to my shirt and the wires stay put. So when I'm doing jumping, skipping rope, running, and the like I don't have the cable swaying around everywhere. AWESOME benefit of the clips.

Overall: I use these earphone EVERYTIME I go to the gym. They have proven to be reliable. HIGHLY recommended that you purchase these.

This is my third set of MEElectronics headphones and they are my absolute favorite headphone company to buy from mainly because the Price to performance ratio is unmatched.

I did a bunch of research on headphone sound quality back in the day which lead me to my first set of M9's and was amazed that I could get such good sound quality from a $20 headphone, I've been sold ever since.

I've had the first model (the S6) for a while now and I rarely go on a run without them, the memory wire makes them perfect for any sort of activity that would cause regular sets to possibly fall out, which can be annoying and these solve that problem very well.

The S6P came out just in time because the new smartphone features are perfect for me. My favorite thing about these is the sound quality, they have very balanced sound with a very slight scoop in the mids from what I can tell, the bass is real tight and perfect for my taste, mids are fairly flat with maybe very slight scoop and the highs are crisp and clean, perfect for EDM.

The smartphone armband that comes with it is surprisingly solid which is unexpected because good ones out there aren't exactly cheap and these come free with the set.

I don't really see the point in paying extra just to get something that's more hyped and has the same sound and possibly even fewer features, very happy with these.

As to the earbuds themselves, they're great overall. Better than good, but not spectacular either.

I'm not an audiophile so I won't get into anything technical, but these earbuds hit the high's and low's just fine (anywhere in my range of musical tastes from orchestral to bass-filled tracks like dubstep). I never listen to anything louder than half of the volume capabilities because above that is just not necessary (these things get LOUD). At the highest volumes, which I tested a bit for this review, the sound distorts some. That won't be a problem for the average person though, who will probably never need music that loud.

To get these to fit properly, it will take a few minutes of tinkering the first time you wear them. Afterwards, these earbuds aren't going anywhere. They will fit anyone's ear comfortably. When I first used them, I didn't put the right ear tips in for my size ear and they would slip out some (although never actually fall due to the around-the-ear wire). I tried a couple more ear tip sizes the earbuds come with 7 or 8 pairs and haven't had this problem since in the hours I've spent running, biking, hiking, and whatever else. Also a great plus for you active lifestylers these don't slip out after sweating from exercise.

A huge benefit that I didn't even know I wanted the armband! That thing is perfect. Stays on your arm securely and fits almost any phone (best used with smart phones with a touchscreen). Also has a small pouch to put a key in.

The only downside to these earbuds is that they aren't very versatile. It's a hassle to fidget with these to put them on and take them off. For long periods of exercise, that hassle is worth it because no other earbud stays in like these when being active. But if I just want to multitask at home while listening to music or watching videos, it becomes annoying to take them on and off repeatedly.

I'd recommend to anyone who likes to listen to music while being active and just want a decent set of earbuds that won't fall out. If you're looking for some all-around decent earbuds, you might want to consider something without a wire.

the folks at Sennheiser must not have large heads. As with about every pair of headphones that I try on, I had to extend these all the way to fit. After a few months of daily use, the plastic headband began to develop small cracks. Now the cracks are growing and I fear that the whole thing will just snap one day. Unfortunately, that is one of the parts that isn't listed as replaceable.

That said, people who look at this headphone are looking for: a) quality sound synonymous with the name Sennheiser b) excellent noise reduction.

a) The sound from these phones is excellent. The standard criteria are there. The signal is very clean, thanks in part to the oxygen free copper cabling used. Bass is controlled and precise so a timpani doesn't sound muffled. Higher frequencies do not hiss and the phones are able to drive high frequency sounds and pull out details lost by consumer grade headphones. Soundstage is fairly narrow as some have said, but much better than consumer sets that sound like the sound source is inside your head. Of course, a DSP solution for soundstage expansion could help if someone didn't like the soundstage.

What people should realise is that most music is optimised for listening on a stereo system and not headphones. A search for "binaural music" will yield samples that show how music should be sampled for headphones. Anyways, the HD-280 Pros also have 64 Ohms of resistance so an amplifier isn't needed.

b) The biggest impression I got from these phones is silence. Not total silence, since with the headphones on I could still hear outside noise. Once the music starts playing, however, music is much clearer because background noises have been attenuated so effectively.

That was the biggest attraction of these headphones. For my sound processing work, ambient noise from my computer and the outside world are suppressed admirably. 32 decibels is a lot of sound attenuation, far more than the Active Noise Reduction sets from Bose or even Sennheiser. The HD-280 Pros use passive noise attenuation. This means that for the phones to supress outside noise effectively, they have to be tight. They are very tight in fact. Four Newtons of force are applied, a number significantly larger than most headphones. If it weren't for the thoughtful padding, they would feel as uncomfortable as firing range headsets. Passive noise attenuation also means there is no artifacting from electronic noise that is usually the case in Active Noise Reduction sets.

If you have a very large head, a solution is to find in-ear phones (the expensive Etymotics sets have even better sound quality and noise reduction). If you are sensitive to tight headphones, a solution might be the Active Noise Reduction sets (although they aren't as good sonically). If you listen to sound in a very very quiet environment, Grados or some other Sennheisers would probably get you that better soundstage for the money.

If none of these situations applies to you, then these phones will provide better sound through their native excellent quality and their superior noise attenuation. After all, the listening experience with Sennheiser 600's on an Audigy 2 card or a tube amplifier is diminished with that noisy computer fan in the background.

All in all, these phones are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

*** UPDATE, October 20, 2009 ***

Wow, well these headphones are still ticking after over six years and I'm pretty rough with my equipment! Cheap headphones break after six weeks for me because the cable gets pulled or I mess up the speaker so these Sennheisers are pretty solid.

Just as I feared though, the plastic HAS cracked and you can see the thin wires (covered in plastic or rubber) exposed. Now that most of the plastic on the headband has broken off, the fit is quite a bit looser though the headband is still held together by a wide piece of metal. I just wish they would just make a nice metal headband to avoid the plastic cracking issue.

While I like the fact that they aren't so tight, I don't like the fact that richness (low-end midrange and bass) suffers because of it. You can simulate this when listening by pulling the headphones slightly apart. It isn't noticeable on light music though and might not be an issue with newer versions of the HD-280 Pro.

The ear cushions on my 6+ year headphones are worn past the leatherette, past the foam and to the foam backing layer. The top is looking ratty as well. Replacement ear cushions are around $20.00 which isn't cheap. I'll probably skip that in favor of a new pair of HD-280s especially if they've been redesigned for larger heads as some people are indicating. I'll keep this pair around as beaters until they quit on me. However, now that I've quieted my working area, sound isolation isn't as critical to me as it was before so I might take a look at other Sennheisers.

These cans are currently being offered well below MSRP -no, they aren't in danger of being retired any time soon (confirmed with Sennheiser customer service) -and are truly the best bang for the buck. Despite the very positive reviews, I had two reservations about purchasing the 280s: 1) the tight, uncomfortable fit; and 2) cracking in the plastic headband that some have commented on. I have a big ol' head where adjustable ball caps barely fit me. The 280s aren't tight at all, but rather comfortably snug -what do you expect from a closed design? Shooting range ear protection/muffs are 3 times more tighter than these. Secondly Sennheiser claims to never having heard about the cracking issue but will repair/replace your unit with no questions asked under their 2 year warranty.

Although plastic in design, the product has a solid, quality construction (made in Ireland if you care). An advantage, as you may already know, is that most of the components are designed to be replaced due to wear or damage. I like the folding convenience of the 280s, but don't expect them to fit in your coat pocket.

After burning these puppies in for 24 hours, the audio quality truly impresses with details I've never noticed before in my Definitive Technology and Aperion Audio home theatre/stero systems. Initially I thought the bass was a *little* lacking, but the cans have developed a fuller, richer sound with burn-in. I'm tempted to buy a second pair so I don't have to carry mine from home to work all the time.

If you are reading my review to know exactly which headphone you are going to buy, thats a bad idea. There are really only 2 steps to buy a phone that you love.

1. Know What Sound You Like. There are basically 3 types of sounds. A natural sound, colorful/vibrant sound(no so much artificial),and an artificial sound that is very bassy. The first step is find out which of these sounds you like most.

2. Match the headphones to your audio source. If you would use a portable device then make sure you get a low impedance (25-35) headphone. There are also the professional type for studio monitoring. These have higher impedance (60's)

Don't ever go by what somone else says because everyone has very different taste. Make sure you listen to the headphones before making sure they're the ones for you. If you have no clue which headphones to start with to find out what sound you really like I can give you some ideas. If you think you would like natural sound and use headphones for a portable device try out the Sennheiser HD 497. If you like natural soud and you listen to music through a reciever or a high powered audio source try the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro. For colorful sound try the Sony MDR-V6; try the Sony MDR-V600 which are the replacements for the V6. I found the Sonys to be kind of and exception. They are good for both high powered audio sources and mp3 players. They will sound bettter on a high powered source, but they don't sound too shabby on a mp3 player. For plain bassy and artificial sound(ideal for techno) try the Sennheiser HD 212 Pro(portable devices). If you like portability I believe that the Sennheiser PXC 100 have the best sound and are the most convienient to travel with.REMEMBER: Never buy your headphones because of others opinion. The HD 280 Pro are NOT good for portable devices in my opinion. But if you listen to music through a reciever or watch tv with headphones, go for it. These headphones in my opinion are the most natural sounding headphones on the market. Sennheisers I find are the best value for what you get, including the warranty. My biggest complaint with the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro is that it is very uncomfortable.

Be careful when you order HD-280 these days: Amazon.com ships the HMD-280 instead. It happened twice in a row to me. I was told that shipping is automated. So, since the identical mistake happened twice already, it would likely happened a 3rd time. Therefore, the employee said, better get a refund rather than re-order again! Hard to believe that a human could not supersede the automation when an obvious mistake has been found in the automated shipping process. I refuse to believe it, and I am writing this review in an effort (among others) to get management's attention to fix the problem.

First of all let me say that I bought these for my mp3 player to get the most out of it. It sounds sort of ridiculous because the mp3 player is like 1/10th the size of the headphones, nonetheless that was my purpose for them. Personally I don't care how big the headphones are within reason and these are definitely within reason. Basically when I listen to my music I want to be getting the most out of it whenever I listen to it. I guess you could call me an audiophile even though I had never even heard of the term until a few months ago. These headphones were bought to replace a cheaper version of some Sennheiser's that worked fine, but were just annoying to wear and were giving me headaches. In any case, let me start with that. I find these to be much more comfortable and better built than the ones I had. The actual size of the head phones changes instead of just the position of the earpieces. Also, the cups completely encompass the ear which not only are more comfortable but create a much richer sound. The padding is definitely more on the professional size and feel.

When you look at these headphones the first thing you notice is they have a professional fit and finish to them. For obvious reasons this happens, these are the pro model. They are more like contortionist headphones than any other I have ever seen. There are something like twelve different positions they can be folded into, which allows for storage because they can be bulky. The cord is very nice and thick and coiled so you don't have to worry about it having to be rolled up. It is also pretty much tangle proof. The piece that covers the head is wide and seems very sturdy. From what I can tell so far they are built to last.

Now to talk about the sound. When you first put them on there is a eureka sense that you get if you have sensitive ears. Its like, "What have I been missing?" sort of feeling. It is as if you were looking through a dirty cracked window before, but now it is crystal clear. All ranges can be heard-lows, mids, and highs. To demystify one thing I noticed in other reviews that have been said about these headphones; they do not have any lack of bass-period. In fact I find the bass to be even better than the other cheaper headphones that are bass oriented. This is because you get more out of the bass. You don't just get booming noises, you get the bass guitar, deep sounds, different voice tones and brilliant music. In other words, I would say the bass is not weak, but multidimensional. One way to describe the sound that comes from these headphones is that when you listen on a pair of normal headphones you hear maybe 2 or 3 dynamic parts of the song (bass, vocals and maybe background instruments) On these when they are tuned correctly you will hear all of them-bass, vocals, acoustics, three dimensional sound, other instruments and clarity. This is what I would call a truly high definition sound and is dynamic.

Just purely listening to the headphones is a great experience, but I use two different equalizers on my computer. This ensures THE best possible sound can be attained in my opinion. Sennheiser went to great lengths to engineer these headphones to be replicators, in the sense that they replicate exactly how the music sounded when heard in real life if not better. Everything is crystal clear and these being my first professional set of headphones I am thoroughly impressed. I would consider myself to be a pretty multi-faceted music listener, so I had a chance to test it with rock music, classical, softer music, vocals and music with just a considerable amount of components. Not once would one think that one single genre sounds better than another and I find the equalizer setup I have excellent with any of the music I listen to. Because these are studio quality headphones you would expect them to block out sound. While listening to music they are pretty much impervious to outside sound. Just using them as noise-blockers however I would say they only block maybe 40-60 decibels of sound.

The only real qualm I have with these headphones is the size. This was taken into account when I went searching for a new pair however. I don't plan on using them while running on a treadmill.

The real question is whether or not you should buy it. If you are an audiophile, a person with sensitive hearing who enjoys quality music, a musician or just a purist, then I really think these are a superb value. With an original price of $200 they have really come down to just an enthusiast's price level. Were you a studio employed sound technician, demanded the best of the best quality or are just plain rich then these would not serve your purpose because of course there are better ones out there which can run into the hundreds and thousands even. On the other hand the majority of people are: iPod/mp3 player owners, can't tell the difference between a $20 pair and a $100 pair, plain old music listeners, not wanting to spend the extra money or dont want a couple of princess Leia headphones attached to their head in the gym or walking around. Unfortunately many will not come to know the sublime sounds of the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro because of these very reasons. However, I think that the value is unbeatable. For those who are in that class with me try these out and I doubt you will be dissapointed.

Overall it is pretty impressive for a low budget studio. Here's some pros and cons:

Pros

comes with PodFarm software (big variety of effects and amp models)

comes with RiffWorks (drum machine and recorder)

comes with some other software too ;)

lets you get idea of how a wide variety of effects sounds

Cons

can be a little tricky to set up and register

tech support is a little weak (they incorrectly say it replaces your soundcard)

the quality of the effects is about an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10 (clean sounds are great, but distortions and delays sound cheap)

Notes: it may replace your sound card, but only if you set it up that way. I think it's bad for the tech support people to use that phrase, because it does NOT have to replace it. For example, on my BGears Enspirer (the setup was a bit tricky) but you actually can hear sound from computer speakers and the signal out at the same time. In fact, thats how you use RiffWorks! I just think their tech support forum is geared towards the most common hardware, but it's wrong to claim "the UX1 replaces your sound card".

Also, about the effects, any of the clean effects sound pretty good. But with any heavy distortion it gets muddy and just doesn't sound quite like a Marshall. ;) And with the digital delay effects, they are pretty cheap really, eventhough they look fancy. It's easy to muddy them up when you mix much in. Even on a high end PC, I give the clean effects a 9 out of 10. The distortion is about a 7/10, and delay is about 6/10. Overall it's pretty fun though (esp for the price!), but it just not sound the same as high end stuff. ;)

This interface was a great purchase. Vocals are loud, clean right from the getgo, even on a decent mic. It seems to be made kind of cheap (plastic knobs and a very light, weak encasement) but that doesn't matter, it works great. The software comes with a plethora of cabinets/effects/ presets for the unit, which I use for my bass. For this price this unit is a great deal. Following the instructions, I had this up and running within Sonar within 5 minutes. When this is plugged into your computer, it becomes the output for your sound by default. Obviously, you'll need a set of headphones or a monitor if you want to hear it (the POD has inputs for this). Just unplug the POD when done and your standard sound card takes back over. If you are using just a standard sound card to do recordings, you definitely need to get this or something similar.

Also, this is Vista 32/64 compatible (I'm using it on 64bit with no probs).

This is one of the best investments I have ever made. I have owned this for quite some time now and this unit is awesome. The sounds that come out of it are the best I have ever heard and for the cost you can't beat it. It's like having thousands of dollars of the best equipment at your disposal at any time you need it. I needed a device to allow me to continue working at home while most of my "studio" was being used somewhere else. This little beauty was offered to me by the local guy and I thought, OK, I'll give it a go. Well, it solved a couple of mind-blocks I'd been having because it made me work a little differently. And on top of that it saved me from losing work at home. It sounds great, it loaded easily and it's fun to use. It doesn't have phantom power but that's not the end of the world I found. I recommended it to a good friend and he was glad I did!!!

I have decided to write two different reviews for this product. One of them will be for the beginner, and the other will be for the advanced user of products such as these.

Beginner's Review:

The Hercules RMX the best entry to mid-level midi controller on the market for those looking to get into the world of mixing. While pricier than other controllers, the RMX has the most and best amount of software options to choose from. The Hercules may be somewhat difficult for beginners to set-up right out of the box, but once you do, playing is a breeze. The RMX comes with Virtual DJ software specifically mapped for the product, so you automatically can start to enjoy mixing your music library. Not only that, you are also given a carry-on bag, and lengthy instruction manual on the basics of scratching and mixing. You'll be on your way to hosting parties in no time.

Tech Review:

The Hercules RMX is a multi-faceted midi controller used to control software dj programs such as Virtual DJ, Traktor, or for use in live mixes like Ableton live. It comes with a metal casing, and is a dedicated soundcard, having four input / output plugs. The RMX doesn't come with any type of additional connectors besides the usb cable, so you will have to provide your own stereo jacks.

The controller can be set up for any type of gig. You can run your vinyl turntables or CD players through it, and have multiple outputs, so you can mix at a venue while broadcasting live on radio or internet stream. The buttons can be configured to have little to no lag between interfaces, and the jog wheels can be used to do various DJ scratching. Do NOT expect to scratch like a pro on the jog wheels, they are no substitute for actual vinyl.

The most important thing about the RMX are the drivers, and thankfully Hercules has updated them for windows 7 and Mac compatibility. Many midi controllers on the market selling still are only Vista capable, so be wary of other products like this. They also have a huge support forum, and an excellent customer service record. Expect that if you're having problems, you can google the issue and find the answer.

The RMX comes with Virtual DJ Basic. The software is subpar, and you're probably better off using programs like Traktor or Abelton, which give you more freedom with effects and midi mapping. Those products cost money, so expect to shell out another 400 dollars for a good version of the software.

Having the proper mixer is one of the most important equipments for a mobile Dj. This is that mixer. I initially bought the Hercules MKII, but returned it when I found this one for $80 dollars more. It's been fantastic and user friendly. Using Virtual DJ, you can program up to 12 different effects((6 per deck). I use it for mobile gigs and all I bring is my laptop, hard drive, powered(pre amped) speakers, and this mixer...then I'm good to go. You can even control your music videos and of course Karaoke. I've even used this mixer to plug into the club(that I guest DJ at) and it has worked great. Other Dj's compliment me on the mixer once they try it. I don't use it for scratching, I plug my cd decks to the mixer though and do the scratching through them. Yes, you can plug either turntables or CD decks. Again, A Must for mobile DJ's.

Wonderful item, it does what it says it does. Out of the box, installation was less than 10 mins with installation of the software and drivers. I was up and running and after figuring out some of the functions that weren't that well described in the manual, pretty soon it took me back to the old days when I used to mix vinyl records. The problem is that the jog dials, though very responsive, aren't accurate enough for the scratching motions needed for turntablist hip hop scratching. You can scratch and do pullbacks and do some scratch tricks, just don't expect to be mixmaster mike with this fader. There is a little latency from the movements of your wrist and the actual sound coming out of the speakers. For fading in between songs it is fine, and for minimal scratching it is ok at best. Otherwise, for everything else, it is a wonderful toy for the hobbyist dj, you can loop, sample and add effects with ease. But smoke and mirrors aside, professionals should definitely look elsewhere, and they wouldn't be reading up on something like this anyway with their purist attitude.

Want Hercules DJ Console RMX Discount?

I would definitely recommend this product for the price.

I am not unhappy for the amount I spent.

It's construction is rugged.

Looks great, feels great.

But keep the following in mind when purchasing:

1) The "kill" buttons DO NOT HAVE LEDs! Supposedly this is to save power over USB, but it nearly makes these buttons useless.

2) The jog-wheels do not really have inertia like say on the Vestax VCI-300. They do work very well for making fine adjustments.

3) The mixer is not really a mixer. They're just controls that bind/pair with the software. So you may be unhappy with the detail of their response. A REAL analog knob control, will have more finite control over levels.

4) The bundled version of Virtual DJ (Console) is old and simply horrible. I can't imagine using it. Even if you get over the crappy skin they give you, the software's responsiveness and usability is just not as good as the later versions. Be sure to see which up to date versions support using a console. Once I upgraded, it was a very usable and happy experience.

How I'm using it:

I have a touch screen laptop/tablet, this console, and a set of headphones.

It's primary value comes from being a dual sound card and console in one. I don't use all the features of the console, but it does make a difference to be able to touch knobs and physical levers versus being forced to use the tablet input.

I'm a hobbyist (into house music) and here's what I've found after owning the RMX for about 6 months. If you're looking for a well priced, slightly better than entry level midi controller to learn on, this seems to be it. I use the RMX with Traktor Pro. It's been easy to customize the midi mapping (after watching a few youtube videos), and has worked pretty much out of the box with minimal tweaking also nice that it's powered by USB. I didn't spend much time with the included software, so I can't really comment on it. What I can say is that I have outgrown this mixer fairly quickly. Controlling the bass/mid/treble and the effects (in Traktor) requires some pretty quick fingers and a lot of double duty button mapping with the RMX (for example I had the bass/mid/treble buttons and knobs also programmed to switch and control effects when the shift button was held down works, but not ideal). I bought a Traktor Kontrol X1 to go along with the RMX and that helped me a lot now the bass/mid/treble controls serve only their intended purpose and the effects are controlled by the X1 helpful because having rotary knobs as well as buttons to control the effects and loops becomes necessary pretty quickly.

If you're serious at all about mixing, I'd recommend looking at the NI Traktor Kontrol S4 coming out in winter 2010. For about $1000 ($100 less when I do a search currently) you'll get a 4 channel mixer with sampling capabilities, touch sensitive jog wheels and a full version of Traktor created specifically for the S4. Add in the fact it comes with a soundcard (NI AUDIO 8 DJ quality), separate effects rotary/button controls, and the S4 is a no brainer.

When I got the Native Instruments Kontrol X1, I was impressed by the build quality. The Hercules RMX left a little bit to be desired the buttons are hard plastic and loud when pushed as opposed to the more rubberized, quiet buttons on the X1. The RMX buttons work fine and get the job done, just not as refined.

In short, I spent about $300 on the RMX, $200 on Traktor Pro and about $200 on the Kontrol X1 (look to Korg or Akai for something similar to the X1 but less expensive). This has provided me with a good set-up to learn on, but if the S4 had been out at the time I'd be kicking myself as the difference in overall price looks like the step-up from bedroom hobbyist to the real deal.

I don't want to scare anyone away, the RMX is a good mixer especially for the price -just not as professional/robust as the S4 will be, and if the S4 is built like the X1, it's gonna be sweet! Like I said, if you're serious, I encourage you to go and watch some youtube (or dj tech tools) videos on the upcoming Kontrol S4 before making a decision. Or, wait until the S4 comes out and you'll probably be able to find a good RMX used.

I hope this helps happy mixing.

Oh, and if you're into serious about scratching, the S4 might not be the mixer for you as the newly created version of Traktor Pro for the S4 doesn't support time coded vinyl, but it probably will soon.

I've been using a Sennheiser R-120 wireless earphone charger and transmitter with my tv, but upon purchasing a Samsung Smart tv, which has only a optical digital speaker outlet, I needed a way to use the R120 with the Samsung. The DAC works great and does the job! You do have to change the Samsung's sound output to pcm, which is no big deal. A head's up, Amazon website has the dac and cable in several places. This seller probably has the optical cable cheaper than anyplace where it is not combined with the dac.

For a basic BT headphone these work really well. And, they're the best priced headphones you'll find.

Works out of the box with Linux Mint, Redhat, and Ubuntu. Also works with all expected problems with

Microsoft Window 8 and less difficulty with Windows 7 (expect to have to load drivers, because these

will show up as telephony-headphones and really low quality drivers needed to get music quality.)

I can't speak for any Mac issues, but I wouldn't be surprised if you have to buy something extra to get them

to work with Mac (like just about everything else.)

I'm using this to connect 3.5mm microphone cables to the 2.5mm input jack on the Panasonic GH2 digital camera. It's been working just fine in that role. It's a little pricey compared with some other adapters, but my understanding is that not all adapters will transmit the mic signal (as opposed to just stereo audio signals). Make sure the adapter fits your needs before plunking down the cash, but if you're looking for a mic adapter for a camera with a 2.5mm input, this should work well.

I knew going in it might not work with a Motorola w408g, inserting it all the way in I only had sound in the right ear, pulling it out of the phone a little I would have stereo sound in the headphones, so I epoxied 2 thin washers over the male end of the adapter and it works great. see picture.

Does not output stereo sound. In fact, just to get sound in both earplugs you have to half-way insert the plug. Doing this puts both stereo signals in both ears but the signals are not separated left from right (stereo).

I spent a ridiculous amount of time researching adapters since I've used so many and encountered various problems. Things to consider:

1) those with cords can eventually get a short, so see if you can tell the size and durability of the cord. Some of the less expensive ones are flimsy and short out quickly. The retractable ones are convenient in that you can adjust the length, but they (for me anyway) ALWAYS short out, it's just a matter of days vs months if they're good.

2) do you want the adapter to have an angle. I wanted a straight one (because of the location of my plug), but couldn't find a straight one with good reviews at the time I was looking.

3) be sure the length of the jack--male part--is not too long or short, and that the plastic surrounding it isn't going to get in the way. Unfortunately most sites don't specify jack length and you have to depend on customer reviews for this.

4) along the same lines, know whether you need two rings or three.

I had two reasons for buying these headphones.

One was for working out in the gym. I couldn't stand listening to the same single CD that they just won't change and I wanted to block out the sound. I briefly considered getting the Bose noise-canceling headset but they were too expensive and too bulky for working out.

The other reason, similar to the above, is to block out all ambient noise when traveling on a plane with the migraine inducing cacophony of crying babies. What I used to do was put in good noise protection air plugs and put a headset over that just so that the ordeal of flying wasn't so horrific. Yes, the earplugs blocked out much of the music but I couldn't hear the interminable screaming babies or the overhead speakers. No matter what Bose claims, and some people believe, Bose headsets cannot reduce transient sounds (e.g. voices).

Finally, I never liked the iPod earphones. I find them to be uncomfortable and they don't keep out external noise. I know that they're designed *not* to keep out external noise so that you still hear the outside world.

This comes with a wide variety of ear buds and I wound up using the very smallest.

The sound quality of these earphones is fantastic. Between the sound blocking characteristics of the buds and the high quality of the sound, the external world blissfully ceases to exist. As the instructions state, you would never want to use these where you need to listen to warning sounds like car horns.

I didn't read any of the reviews before buying these earphones. I was in the Apple store buying a nano iPod and I grabbed the the Shure earphones because it said 'sound isolating'. It was somewhat of an impulse purchase.

After I brought them home, but before I opened the package (once opened, they can't be returned for health reasons), I checked out the reviews. Since the reviews were so glowing I decided to buy a set through Amazon for way less money than what I had paid at Apple.

I was amazed at how well the sound isolation works and the great sound quality. When I rip a CD, I set the bit rate to 320 kbps to preserve the sound quality.

Even when I set the volume to fairly low, I wind up talking way too loudly. Between the sound isolation and the music, it's difficult to gauge how loudly you're talking. I'm so glad that I didn't buy the Bose at over 4x the cost.

Where I work, sometimes people talk way too loudly. Now I put these in, play soft music and I don't have to suffer listening to all the sports talk anymore.

I love these earphones. I'm buying another for a close relative.

------Oct 6, 09 update ------

I ordered and received another set. Ordered on Saturday, arrived on Monday (normal shipping rates).

I checked the price on Amazon today (Tuesday). It skyrocketed 60% from last weekend! I wish my 401(k) increased that much so quickly.

------Oct 15, 09 update ----

Bought another set. I love these guys. If you use the sound-insulating earbuds (the foam types) and you insert them correctly (like hearing protection ear plugs) the sound quality improves dramatically and the outside world disappears (under normal sound conditions -I wouldn't expect them to block out the noise of a jack-hammer).

I was in a waiting room with someone else listening to music at a fairly low volume. I was thinking about my software code in my head and I whispered (or, so I thought) to my friend, "I found a bug in my program". Her face turned somewhat red and everyone in the waiting room was smiling in a friendly manner. It turned out that I had screamed. While I was in my own little world, I wasn't able to gauge the volume of my voice.

On another note, I'm surprised that these things can deliver bass so well. While your body doesn't vibrate like being next to multiple 12" woofers, the bass is pleasantly deep.

Keep checking out the price on Amazon before buying. The price fluctuates between twenty and forty dollars every few days. The stock market and gas prices fluctuate far less.

--Oct 28, 09 update ---

While walking on a major thoroughfare in a big city, the din from the trucks and the traffic was deafening. I put the ear phones with the foam sound insulating ear buds on with the volume set to low to medium. In this case, I was listening to Simon and Garfunkel, not exactly blasting music. Except for one motorino (scooter/moped), I heard literally no city traffic. I became far more relaxed.

--Sept 13, 10 update ---

Still working, no problems. I use them now even more frequently. They're great for routine, boring jobs like mowing the lawn. The ear phones block out much of the noise from the machine and I can listen to music.

--April 11, 12 update ---

Still working, no problems.

I have always been curious about Shure in-ear earphones, because I've heard a lot of good things about it. It was quite a risk buying this pair (the Shure SE 115) because it's quite new and the number of reviews are too few, however I still went ahead anyways because of my curiosity.

I'm used to hearing Sennheiser's phones (I owned HD 595, CX 500 and PX 100 headphones), so there are at least 2 things to consider when you read this review: I'm switching brand, and I'm switching phone type (mostly on-ear to in-ear).

Shure's SE115 has some good things going on about it (from my perspective). If you like bass, it delivers. But do note that the bass sounds a bit on the artificial side. Response is much better in the medium to low end of the frequency spectrum (special note to vocals, they sound more real, slightly warm, which is quite a good change to Sennheiser's rather crispy cold vocals). Due to more emphasis on the bass (which is what Shure is probably aiming for with this product), treble takes the back seat but it's still there. Plus, and this is important to me, since these are in-ear earphones I was expecting a more on-the-face experience (or in-ear, if you like), but the sound I got was a bit distant and muffled. This baffled me, because my PX100 and HD 595 manage to deliver on-your-face experience even though they are on-ears. Perhaps this is due to heavier bass (and Shure's foam tips and driver anatomy), but do note this when you're deciding to buy these phones. I would peg this more on preferences than good-or-bad-quality.

Let's move on to build and comfort. The build is of high quality and the provided accessories are complete, which is to be expected out of Shure (I've read reviews on their other models: thick and strong cables, pouch, spare foam tips, etc). In this department, SE 115 does not disappoint. In terms of comfort, I personally find myself hating the foam tips since they hurt the ear (I've used the smallest size and still they hurt and irritate my ear canals) but they do get the job done in isolating outside noise. So if you don't mind it, these do get the job done. I personally recommend the rubber tips instead. They're more comfortable, even though they don't completely block outside noise.

Do note the title of my review though, and it is true that this is a good first step for those thinking of changing their stock earphones with something better (welcome to the audiophile's world!). But do consider the following: if you're completely adamant in getting audiophile entry-level in-ear earphones and made by Shure, then you can't go no wrong (duh). But if you don't mind on-ear models, then go for Sennheiser's PX100. There are tons of good reviews here in Amazon on that model (700-plus reviews and an average of 4.5 stars, that's a safe bet). It's cheaper, and delivers high-quality audio hands down. If you're willing to shell out more cash, go for Sennheiser HD 595 (I got it from Amazon for around USD180) and I think it's damn cheap for something as excellent as those.

If you really want noise isolating, in-ear models then try Sennheiser's CX300 (I don't own them but I've listen to them), or if you have more cash to spend go for CX500 (which I also own). But do note that Sennheiser has a different audio characteristics. When it comes down to it, sometimes it's only a matter of preferences.

These are, assuming, you're in the USD100-200 price range.

So to sum it up:

Strong bass, a little artificial

Warm, rather realistic vocals

Excellent low-to-medium response

Excellent build quality

Accessories provided are quite complete

Foam tips vs. rubber tips (preferences)

Slightly muffled overall sound (preferences)

Hope the review helps!

I rarely do review for lack of time, or just because I'm lazy. But after purchasing this headphone I felt compelled to write a review, and is not a good one. In a nutshell this is a sound isolating headphone. Not a musical appreciation headphone.

I have long used shure microphones and they are excellent. I was reluctant to purchase those "expensive" headphones once shure has no real history in the headphone industry ... perhaps for a good reason. I'm an audio buff. I love sound equipment and have purchased a number of headphones in my life, always looking for the next best thing, and I don't think this is it.

I also have to say that my unfavorable review is due to the sound quality. Most people don't care or can't see the difference in audio quality from poor to excellent. But I can hear the difference. For me a good sounding speaker or headphone has to be, well, good. My home headphone is a Sennheiser 600, and I have many other portable headphones like Sony, Etymotic, Ultimate Sound and Koss. Yes I'm a sound maniac, and I wanted to listen to the shure 115 due to the raving reviews and here is what I think of it:

The hardware

1 (bad) The box is a pain to open. Others are not. But who cares, right?

2 (good) they are good looking and well built.

3 (excellent) they fit perfectly and comfortably. You may have to exchange the foam sleeves to fit you ear canal perfectly, and they do.

4 (excellent) noise isolation is among the best in the ear headphones I have tested. I can say that it is close to 20db or more.

5 (excellent) cables are sturdy (at least look like)

Now for the audio

6 (excellent) Bass Bass is good. Tight not too soft or loud as others say. It is not flat, it does color a bit, but I like it. In lame terms the headphones amplify the bass a little bit. If you listen to rock, pop, electronic, r&b and other bass full music this is good. If you listen to classic, cool jazz, new age and softer music this may not be good. Personal preference here.

7 (poor) mid range. Sound is brittle, inexpressive, thin, dull and lack definition or sound stage. There is no real tonality to it. Sounds artificial, almost like those $2 dollar airline phones. Ok, not that bad but certainly is not a $70 midrange sound.

8 (deficient) highs. They are just not there! For rock, pop, electronic, r&b and other less detailed music this may or may not be a problem, but for anything else it sounds horrible!

Conclusion: For a $70 buck headphone is just not worth it. If you are looking just into a sound isolating headphone OK if you want to spend that much, but if you want a musical appreciation headphone, forget it!

Moreover, the Sennheiser CX300 cost half the price and sounds MUCH better. Don't have the same sturdy construction neither the sound isolation but are way more pleasant to listen and work well to isolate noise. Low end Sony's too. Again flimsy construction, not as good sound isolation but the sound quality is way, way better than Shure 115.

Hope my two cents can save you a buck, or 70.

I've been very happy with these earphones. The sound quality has been good. The various ear cover options made it easy to find a comfortable fit. I thought running the cables over the tops of my ears might be annoying, but didn't find it so.

To top it off, I accidentally dropped them in the driveway (I thought I'd left them at work) and finally noticed them still lying there a couple of days later. After being left outside and my wife running over them a couple of times with her car, the earpieces had some dings from the concrete, but they still worked, with no noticeable loss of quality. Much better built than the brand they replaced.

Want Shure SE115-PNK Sound Isolating Earphones with Dynamic Microspeaker II (Pink ) Discount?

got these as replacements for previous set that ended up with broken wire at plug (shure e2c). sound quality and sound isolation is good. my last set lasted over a year of substantial and hard use (7,000 miles cross country motorcycle trip and 8 10 hours a day at a welding bench). wasn't aware of the 2 year warranty so tried to fix the originals myself unsuccessfully.

had i not done this, shure would have repaired/replaced them. would definately prefer a single connection rather than the double that this set uses, otherwise it would have got 5 stars. good value for the dollars spent.

The Roland Cube-40XL is a great little amp that packs a punch. It features a wide selection of high-quality Roland tones and effects. A few of my favorites include the awesome JC Clean sound, the legendary R-Fier, and a surprisingly sweet tweed tone, among others. The chorus effect is nice (but mono), as is the tap delay. There are two styles of reverb, spring and plate. The spring reverb perfectly reproduces the mechanical reverb you find on some tube amps, while the plates produce a smoother effect.

This amp features two independent Solo Channels, one clean and one lead, each of which can remember the effects you set. That's a very handy new feature I really appreciate. The built-in tuner can be used on a per-string basis, or optionally as a chromatic tuner. This was a thoughtful improvement.

The built-in looper was a sweet addition I've enjoyed, and have used it to perform some of my original tunes I couldn't have pulled off otherwise. You do need an extra Boss FS-6 pedal to use it, however. This is in addition to one FS-6 for clean/lead/solo, and another for effects. The pedals are not cheap, but well worth the expense. They are all, of course, optional, although if you intend to play live, you'll probably want at least one set. You could opt for pedals from another manufacturer, but frankly, I don't recommend it. The FS-6 pedals work perfectly for the Cube, can be configured for either latch or momentary operation, and can be chained together.

Typical Roland quality, this amp is made to last. I won't conceal the fact that I'm a big fan of Roland gear, and the 40XL doesn't disappoint. It's solid and road-worthy, not to mention stylish. I love its compact size. I can stick it in the window sill at the weekly jam I host, saving space for an extra amp on stage.

There are only a few minor drawbacks worth mentioning.

First, it's a little underpowered for gigging with a live band. That's not really surprising, considering its size. Having said that, I am still using it in a live band setting and it usually hangs just fine with the larger Fender amps. It's only when the volume gets way out of control that the Cube 40XL struggles a little. It's not really a fair complaint, since it's amazingly powerful and full sounding for such a small amp, but it's worth noting.

Second: It is, of course, a digital amp. I'm not a tube purist, by any means, but there's a difference. The Roland modeling, however, is second to none. This thing is a tone monster. It's still not a tube amp, but that's not a big deal for me. Some people can't get past the digital stigma. Personally, I think it sounds killer, tubes or none. YMMV.

Finally, I wish this thing had a line out for a second speaker or amp. If I could plug this baby into my old amp, I wouldn't have to worry about the power issue. It DOES have a Recording Out/Phones jack, but this cuts the sound from the speaker (as it should for those purposes). Also, it would be nice to send a line out to the board, instead of having to mic it. But the tried and tested mic method works fine, so it's not a big deal.

One other thing about the Recording Out/Phones jack, the sound is MONO, which unfortunately diminishes the fantastic Roland stereo effects (like the chorus) when recording or listening through headphones. Though not a deal-breaker, it seems like a disappointing oversight.

Other than these minor nitpicks, I love my Cube 40XL. It's sturdy, powerful, versatile, and cool. It's perfect for practice, rehearsals, and small venues. All in all, another superb piece of Roland gear.

If you're looking for something a bit bigger, check out the Cube 80XL.

I was extremely disappointed by this amp and will be returning it. The Cube 40XL has a lot of great features and sounds very good. But it has one very annoying problem -it emits a soft, constant hissing sound when it's at idle. No matter the volume or other settings, the hissing is always there. It's particularly irritating when using headphones for late night practice. The headphone jack is essentially useless. I Googled Cube 40XL hiss and discovered that this is a common problem due to, evidently, a design flaw. I have a Cube 30 which I bought about 10 years ago and it's dead silent when powered on and not being played. Not so with the 40XL which is a shame because otherwise it's an excellent practice amp.

Great little amp for both practice and stage. The amp models are pretty good; my only gripe is the volume change when switching from one amp type to another. The Tweed amp model has great tone, and the R'fier nails the Santana Mesa Boogie tone. The independent delay and reverb are a real plus. The effects are adequate.

The size and weight (22 lbs.) make this a great grab and go amp. The 10" speaker puts out fantastic tone!! To use the looper "live" you'll need at least 1 of the Boss double pedals (FS-6).

Overall, a fantastic value!! I plan on also buying the Cube 80XL for the line out and the extra volume when needed. These little amps replace my big tube amps and floor pedals and make gigging easy again. Great job by Roland!!

I bought 2 of these amps for a stereo set up. The amps sound pretty good with a strat, but they do not do My Les Paul justice. I'm happy with the amps features but but they're terribly noisy as others have mentioned. I tried using them for a recording in my home studio but the noise floor was mind numbing to deal with so I ended up using my Line 6 instead. I'm going to give these to my kids for practice amps and look into buying something further up the food chain for myself. I really wanted to like these amps. They're light weight and feature packed but the nosiness is a deal, killer for me.

The amps are fine for practice or small gigs but, if you plan on using them for recording you should probably consider something else.

This review is actually for the 20XL as that is the one I have and there is no hissing/static

problems.

After using the 20XL and being very impressed with it, I then ordered the 40XL at the reduced

price offered by one of Amazons sub contract companies, but right after making the order because

of reports of the low volume hissing problems checked on warranties and return procedures on this

amp. (Something I should have done before I ordered the amp)

What it boils down to, is that the reduced price (around 20%) you are getting from Amazon, may not

be as good as you think if the equipment is deffective.

If you return it, you will have to pay for the return shipping and in most cases a restocking fee.

I am not saying that the amp you will get will have the problems mentioned, but it looks like the

odds are about 50/50.

I buy a ton of stuff off of Amazon, but in this case, you may just want to go with one of the

regular suppliers that 100% warranty (All return shipping and no restocking charge)an amp if there is a problem.
