At first I was a little skeptical of what to expect from this box, considering its price tag was below $100, but now that I've owned it for a while I have been pleasantly surprised. I have never owned anything from Native Instruments either, so I was a little wary of the all-plastic construction. Don't let that, or the price, deter you, this thing sounds great, and it's sturdy and reliable.I am a semi-professional DJ and producer who's played out of state, and this thing has served me well on sound systems in excess of 100,000 watts. I also just purchased an Apogee Duet 2, and after doing some A/B testing I am hard-pressed to find a dramatic difference in the sound quality of the two units. Compared to the Duet 2, the Audio 2 DJ may be lacking a little high-end detail, slightly less meaty and a tiny bit muddier in the low frequencies, but I feel like it has nice midrange articulation. I think the overall sound stage separation and intelligibility is better in the Duet 2, as well as the dynamic range, but like I said... the differences definitely took some effort to pick out, and they are far from night and day. This could all just as well be in my head, just as all things audio are very subjective.
One thing I would disagree with is the other review I saw in here that says that it drives 600 ohm headphones easily. I have a pair of 600 ohm AKG 240DFs, similar to the other reviewer, and I don't think it has adequate juice to do them justice. 600 ohms is a hard load to drive for a unit that small. It's passable, but not great.
I have never had this thing fail on me, whether from poor audio/USB cable connections, or drivers. This thing has seen countless gigs, including a week at Burning Man, and it has yet to fail me. The volume knobs are starting to get a little staticky that's probably just the dust from Burning Man that needs to be sprayed/cleaned out!
Overall I am very impressed with this thing, and you absolutely can NOT go wrong for the price!

The sound quality out of this box is definitely pretty good. I used it in a live setting already and it was enough to rock the system, but still sounded fantastic in such a tiny box! I use one output for the speakers, and one for headphones. I love it. Asio works fine, latency is nice and low. Works fine with Windows 7 x64. Just realize this is pretty minimal, with just two outputs and volume wheels. I too thought the audio 2 was a great product, and can't argue with any of the positive reviews. But after 14 days working with NI to resolve a driver problem and going outside of my return policy on the now useless device I'm more than a little upset. Everyone out there should know, this device is incompatible with any virtual or aggregate audio sources on windows or osx. If you use soundflower, rewire, jack, audio hijack, etc... DO NOT buy this device or any other NI audio interface. The audio after 10-20 seconds will start to compress and sound like its being played through blown speakers. I own a $40 ads tech external soundcard and a Belkin TuneStudio and these devices do not have this problem. NI has stated to me in they have no intention of fixing this issue. I have now owned one of these Audio2DJ interfaces for about one year. Mine was a refurb, purchased on Amazon. First of all, it sounds quite nice. It's also fairly loud. I have used it in some of my live performance work, and the clarity still is quite amazing, considering the small size of the unit.Bear in mind that there are NO INPUTS on this unit. However, it's great for what I use it for (working in my studio mainly, creating music recordings, mastering, etc.
I have gotten it to play nice with one other audio interface, a Behringer UCA-202, that I use for inputs mainly.
Aggregate? Does not work. I don't need it, but if you do, it's not going to work.
Native Instruments has a habit of making very specific types of interfaces slated to do only the purpose intended, and not much else.
If you're looking for a 24-bit soundcard that takes up very little space, is flexible as heck and can go and go...this may work for you. If you are looking for an interface to do virtual vinyl, look elsewhere...if you need input and output, this won't help you much. But, for those who need something BASIC...this does work quite well, and I am keeping mine!
