First of all, the software wouldn't run on one of our computers, which was frustrating. I am not sure why, since it's running XP. I installed it on a different computer and it ran fine.
It's definitely NOT user friendly. It DOES work, but it's not fun to figure out how. It's not exactly difficult, but it's just not so much fun. It's kind of drudge work. Still, it works just as it says it will.
The Lyric creator that it comes with is pretty easy to use, but you have to enter lyrics line by line (like the other reviewer said), so it takes some time and I'm not sure you'll want to enter more than a song or two at a time. But, it is a nice piece of software and it is definitely easier if you find the lyrics online and then just copy and paste (and correct where needed) rather than typing it yourself.
When it comes time to USE the iSing, you just turn it on and run it in karaoke mode. Press the voice button to remove most of the vocals, use the included microphone and sing away (although, if you have a better one, you might have more fun). The voice button is a great feature but if you have layers of vocals on your tracks, it won't remove all of them. This is good if they are background vocals, but it's less desirable if there is another track of lead vocals. This track will still be heard. Also, it seems as if the machine removes some of the instrumental track, too. Not much, but I think it's noticeable a bit.
We haven't tried record mode since we still need to get a SD card. I can see this would be easy to use, though. There is a record mode, so you would record on the card and you'd upload it to your computer and save the file as an mp3 (which you could then burn).
So, this product is first generation. And, I'm not sure it will be popular enough to cause the company to improve it for a second time. But, it's a pretty good product. I bought it for my 15 year old (an aspiring vocalist/songwriter). She loves to sing, but was put off by this system. I spent this morning figuring it out and putting a few songs on it, creating lyrics, etc., and trying it out. It IS a great thing, but the prep work required to use it as it's designed is NOT fun. It's not difficult, just not amazingly user friendly and not fun.
Using it, though, IS fun. It comes with clear instructions, a usb cable, microphone, line in and out audio cable and earbuds. If you plug it in to a speaker system (with the included audio cable) rather than the earbuds, you can have a great time taking turns and singing with others.

"Not user-friendly" is an understatement. I had to return it because I couldn't figure out how to transfer the music onto the thing. The lyric creator won't work and, overall, I'd say that anyone who buys this toy in the hopes that it'll be a decent handheld kareoke machine, is in for a not-so-pleasant surprise. Unless you're a computer geek, don't buy this product because you'll just be wasting your time and money.I wish I read these reviews before I bought the i-sing. What a disappointment. Although it does work fine as a mp3 player, we bought it mostly because it shows the lyrics to the songs. Well, it doesn't tell you anywhere on the package that you have to type in all the lyrics yourself! What a pain. Although I finally got the software loaded, it did not load easily and did not place an icon on my desktop so I had to go searching to create the shortcut myself. Yes, it works as a mp3 player, but that's about all that works. We were also disappointed to discover that we needed to buy a memory card for the thing. Overall, I just wish we never bought it.Read Best Reviews of I-Sing - Pink Here
I must agree with the large number of reviews that the instruction manuals are horrible. It's really too bad because once you get it to work, this is such a fun product and it allows you the flexibility to karaoke to the songs that *you* love.Pros:
Once you struggle through the installation and Lyric creation process, it is *so* much fun
You can use it not only for karaoke, but for creative educational uses such as foreign language practice (especially since it records!)
Cons:
-Instruction manuals need to be completely rewritten, preferably by someone who's native language is English.
-The instruction manual needs to be updated with accurate links. Here's one that works:
-The website needs to be completely redone and ALL the links need to be updated.
-The i-Sing software needs to be renamed as the "PC driver" so it is clear to anyone using a MAC that they do not need to install this because it's specifically needed only on a PC. Also, it should state that MAC users do not require this driver. The unit connects to a MAC without any driver installation!
-The Lyric Creator software doesn't always name the file as required by the program (it must exactly match the *.mp3 file name) so it should specify in the instructions you may need to rename the file (due to character restrictions). I had to do this 75% of the time!!! This was my primary issue in getting this to work.
I also had similar experience that longer songs (>~5min) had the lyrics cut off even though I entered them all in and they were all in the *.lrc file.
Suggestions for Users:
Download the most current version of the Lyric Creator software from the website
and click "Downloads"
Search for lyrics online so you don't have to manually type them (just cut and paste)
Use a mic and hook it up to your stereo receiver to really get the full Karaoke experience
Expect to spend ~10 min per song to copy/paste lyrics line-by-line
To edit lyrics, open the *.lrc file using "open with" the Lyric Creator software, then add the music file
Suggestions to the company:
-Re-write each of the instruction manuals
-Create a website or file share for the *.lrc files
or create website where people who don't want to struggle through the creation of the *.lrc file can just buy it
The software should be updated to save the file with the *exact* same name as the MP3 file (required to get the lyrics to work)

To top it off, as others have said, all lyrics have to be typed in manually. Ours went back to the local store for a refund. Don't waste your time playing with this thing. It's junk!
