I had been tentatively thinking about getting the Speedster for some time now due to it's slick design and seemingly ergonomically friendly form. I have a small frame and wanted a stylish yet solid instrument to not only play on the road, but also for personal home enjoyment. What sold me on this purchase was the on-board headphone amp. There hasn't been very many reviews on this extra feature and youtube has not provided much in the ways of live demos, but I took the plunge and I have to say that this feature has really streamlined my playable setup. I can lounge on the couch with my headphones and jam without fussing over long wires to my amp. Even with my baby niece around, I wasn't afraid of her getting tangled in wires or of her getting permanent hearing damage :) But what I was really pleased about was how the onboard amp allowed me to "plug" into any device with a mic-in port such as a laptop or home speakers allowing impromptu playability or performance wherever I go. The output quality won't replace your typical amp gear, but the tones and levels still sound great. The hot-rod/laptop setup is definitely an efficient, and less cluttered pipeline for creative compositions on-the-go. I can see this guitar as being a great addition for those with creative juices that require instrument portability and easy connectivity with their portable studio solutions.Buy Traveler Guitar Speedster Hot Rod Electric Guitar Red Now
Fit and finish is excellent. As good, or better, than more expensive full sized guitars. The built in amp with distortion is a nice touch. It is not good enough to replace your amp, and pedals, but it will do for practicing with headphones. The sound provide by the pickup and built in app is decent and good enough for practice. The three way switch provide you with a clean, distorted, and off position. The whole thing is powered by one 9V; which is included so I was able to start playing it as soon as it arrived.
The design is inspired and well thought out. The relocation of the tuners to the body is an efficient use of space, and helps to reduce the overall length of the guitar by 5 inches. The neck is full sized so you feel like you are playing on a full sized guitar. The removable extender gives the guitar the feel of a full size guitar by providing you will all the natural required contact points between you and the guitar. It sits, and feels, well on your left or right knee.
It will not replace your full-time ax, but has all the tonal and design qualities that you need for practice during travel.
I wish they offered a higher end model with a better pick-up, and maybe a modelling amp built in. I suspect that spacing being at a premium we may need for the price and size of components to decrease for they can offer a higher sound quality travel guitar.
