I bought this to record on my iPad, and it does exactly what it should. I haven't used it for guitar apps yet, but I have used it on Multitrack DAW which works like a charm. You can plug it into anything with a 1/4 in jack; keyboard, bass, whatever. I even use it to record vocals. So far it has not failed me, but the only thing I don't like is the fact that the instrument cable is permanently attached, so if it goes bad, the whole thing is garbage. Good construction for weekly use, looks like it will be part of my gig bag for a while...

I bought this for my iPad. I'm running my guitar into Amplitube and saw no reason to pay $40 for an iRig which is basically just an adapter. Now I know why. This thing worked wonderfully the first time, even the first 6 times. I've now used it 10 times and the cheap plastic 1/4" jack is completely shorted out. Useless. So I wasted 20 bucks, and will now go buy an iRig or Amplink or something not Griffin.

I've tried two of these, and my iPhone 4 doesn't recognize that an input device is plugged in. After a bunch of trial and error, and some very precise measurements, I found that by shimming the plug by about 0.22mm (thickness of a business card), the device is recognized. In this configuration there is an unacceptable level of static. I presume this is due to the less-than-perfect fit.

Now, I don't know if the phone's headphone/mic jack is out of spec, or if this cable is. But it doesn't really matter to me, the cable is useless in any case.

Griffin support offered to mail me a new cable if cut the old one up and sent them a picture. (I'm not making that up.) I have no reason to think another cable off the same line will work, so i'm just going to return it.

A real disappointment.

I have been using Peavey's Ampkit link for a while, and have been very satisfied with it. The Ampkit link costs at least $20, and requires batteries and an additional cable ($20). The Guitarconnect requires only the single cable. So, + on both no additional link, nor batteries. I found a great deal on the Guitarconnect so I thought, what the heck, let's try it out.

One think I LOVE about this over other solutions is the placement of the headphone jack. It seems all others (Amplink included) are placed on the link, at the iDevice, meaning that unless your headphone cable is REALLY long, it flaps on the top of the guitar, across the strings or body. With Guitarconnect it plugs in at the guitar end, so it fits nicely behind the guitar, out of the way, and without a lot of cable.

I also love that it doesn't require a battery.

It's a single cable so It fits easily in a gigbag, backpack, or evan your pocket, so all you need is your idevice and guitar.

The only downside I found is that it isn't as "hot" as the amplink. I would think that's obvious, as there has to be a reason the amplink solution has a battery which must be to amplify the signal before it gets to the idevice. I won't say that cranking the guitar and app you are using won't allow you to get the same volume and tones, they just aren't as HOT at the same settings.

Soooo.... I am absolutely going to keep it and keep it with my gig bag at all times, but I may also keep my amplink for use at home with my studio headphones for when travel isn't required.

I hope this helps.

The desing is excellent, good funtionability, buy is has a little problems managing impedance, when you get the volume of your guitar up sometimes it gets distorted, i like the cable is long and the headphone jack is near the guitar plug, and you dont need aditional guitar cable to connect you guitar its like plug an play!
