Cable is thick and durable. Only flaw was that mine came some oxidation on the plug, though it was minor and easily fixed.
Grounding wire is actually soldered to the steel braid underneath the insulation. Stripping just the insulation off the end may require you to pull it over the solder ball.

I tried this and it was not any better than just taking cheap headphones and cutting them off leaving you a wire with the plug. It is slightly more effort to strip the tiny wires, but the wire I happened to use from a set of headphones with one side not working, was better quality than this wire, thicker and stronger.
